  • Socket Programming for the Web

    I have to interact with a legacy system that accepts socket communication and messages. My goal is to make the application cross-platform, but I need the ability to push messages to the client (i.e. - .NET's WCF, Java's Comet) and detect when the user closes out of their browser to destroy the socket. I have built a prototype of .NET wrapper + WCF + Silverlight but it is so disconnected it is difficult to manage the state of the user and seems to be a nightmare to support. All of that considered, what would be my best option?

    I have a recursion to solve for. f(m,n)=Sum[f[m - 1, n - 1 - i] + f[m - 3, n - 5 - i], {i, 2, n - 2*m + 2}] + f[m - 1, n - 3] + f[m - 3, n - 7] f(0,n)=1, f(1,n)=n However, the following mma code is very inefficient f[m_, n_] := Module[{}, If[m < 0, Return[0];]; If[m == 0, Return[1];]; If[m == 1, Return[n];]; Return[Sum[f[m - 1, n - 1 - i] + f[m - 3, n - 5 - i], {i, 2, n - 2*m + 2}] + f[m - 1, n - 3] + f[m - 3, n - 7]];] It takes unbearably long to compute f[40,20]. Could anyone please suggest an efficient way of doing this? Many thanks!

    Please take a look at the following code: Sort[{1, y, x}, Greater] Max[{1, x, y}] x = 1 y = 2 Sort[{1, y, x}, Greater] Max[{1, x, y}] It is interesting to note that the first Sort always produce a definite result while the first Max does not, even when Greater is specified. Note I have not given any numerical values for x and y. Why is this and how can I have a Sort function behave the same way as the Max (or Min) function? Thanks!

    I saw these lines in a demo project, but I couldn't understand why it did that. [self willChangeValueForKey:@"names"]; [self didChangeValueForKey:@"names"]; It called didChangeValueForKey immediately after willChangeeValueForKey. Does it make any sense?   • Magento - how to create different prices for different sizes of a products?

    Hi, I am trying to set different prices for different sizes of a few products I have in my store. I am not really sure how to do that propely. The problem is that I already have the regular size defined as a simple product. Now, I want to add a smaller size as well, that can be chosen from the same product page, and I need to set the weight of the smaller size, so postage is calculated properly. Any suggestions?     Hey, I'm trying to write a program in C# that will track the pressing of certain keys (using a keyboard hook), and send different ones instead. For instance, when I press the A key it will instead send the Q key. I used http://www.codeproject.com/KB/cs/CSLLKeyboardHook.aspx this for my hooks and tried to use the SendKeys function, but I get an exception about the garbage collector destroying some object inside the hook class.

  • How to make a piece of WPF content take up the entire application window

    I'm working on an application that contains a number of content areas. I want to implement a behavior such that in response to user input, any of these content areas can be toggled to fit the entire application window, and optionally back to its original position again. I experimented with several approaches and none of them seem optimal for me. Here's what I tried to do: Use the ClipToBoundsProperty on the content I want to make "Full Screen": Doesn't work because only the CanvasPanel seems to fully respect this property. The application need to be localized so I would really like to avoid the CanvasPanel. Use a Grid and collapse the other content areas, such that only the one I want to see is visible, hence taking up the entire screen: This will probably work but doesn't seem easy to implement nor maintain. The "Full Screen" content area could be several levels deep, for example residing inside a Tabcontrol, so I would have to hide the tab headers too etc. Reconstruct the content area in a separate view and display it while hiding the rest: Seems easy enough to do with DataTemplates and my ViewModel objects, but any GUI/View only states are not preserved using this approach. Somehow "lift" the GUI/View I want to "Full Screen" into the separate view and display it while hiding the rest: I don't know how to do this or even if this is possible. Anyway if anyone knows a better approach I would love to know about it. Thanks a lot!

  • Running the script for the 2-nd time, the messages are not retrieved from the mail server

    I read the mails from my gmail account with the code following below. import poplib pop_conn = poplib.POP3_SSL('pop.gmail.com') pop_conn.user('user') # result: '+OK send PASS' pop_conn.pass_('password') # result: '+OK Welcome.' print pop_conn.list()[1] pop_conn.quit() It shows me 1 message as expected. However, if I run this script for the second time, I get 0 messages as result. On the server the message is still there and unread. How can I get all the messages also running the script for the second time? For me it behaves as an email client that doesn't download the same mail twice. Is there some flag to force the program to download everything again? I use python 2.7.x on ubuntu 12.10

  • PHP, javascript, single quote problems with IE when passing variable from ajax post to javascript fu

    Hi! I have been trying to get this to work for a while, and I suspect there's an easy solution that I just can't find. My head feels like jelly and I would really appreciate any help. My main page.php makes a .post() to backend.php and fetches a list of cities which it echoes in the form of: <li onclick="script('$data');">$data</li> The list is fetched and put onto the page via .html(). My problem occurs when $data has a single quote in it. backend.php passes the variable just fine to page.php but when i run html() it throws a javascript error (in IE, not FF obviously); ')' is expected IE parses the single quote and messes up the script()-call. I've been trying to rebuild the echoed string in different ways, escaping the 's on the php side and/or on the javascript side - but in vain.   • Getting rid of scroll bar for position: absolute inside of position:relative inside of overflow:auto

    Hey guys, my first question here on stack overflow. Trying to get something pretty simple to work, I'm sure I'm missing something quite obvious. Still getting used to the "standard" css, too many years working with non-functional ones! Heh. So, sample of what I'm doing: <div style="overflow: auto; border: 1px solid"> hello <div style="position: relative; z-index: 99999; top: 0px; left: 0px;"> <div style="z-index: 99999; overflow-y: hidden; position: absolute; overflow: hidden; height: 200px; left: 0; auto: 0"> <ul> <li >New</li> <li >Old</li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> In essence: The first div is a container, that I would like to automatically overflow as content is added. Inside of that container, I have a popup menu, which I have simplified here. The popup menu appears (as it should) directly under "hello". My problem, however, is that instead of the popup menu "coming out" of the parent, as would be expected by the absolute position, it is actually causing a scrollbar to appear on the parent. I know that if I take otu the "position: relative" it works, but then it no longer appars where I want it (directly under the previous element). What am I missing here?   • Jquery – Disable/unbind click on active items, rebind click when inactive

    I have a left-positioned navigation that shows/hides content on the right. Currently, when you click a link, it fades in the corresponding content on the right and adds an active class to that link. My problem is that if you click the active link again, the content on the right keeps on fading in again. I would like to unbind that click while the link is active, and if you click on another navigation link (subsequently removing the class from the previous link and adding it to the current one) rebind the click event to all inactive links.     I am referring specifically to the jQuery Autocomplete v1.1 plugin by Jörn Zaefferer [source: http://bassistance.de/jquery-plugins/jquery-plugin-autocomplete/] as there seems to be quite a few variations of this plugin. I'm trying to pass additional parameters to the server when the user starts typing because I have multiple fields that I want autocomplete to provide suggestions for. In addition to the query, I want to send the input name attribute to the server but I can't seem to use $(this).attr('name') within the extraParams.
