  I was just reading this article here to understand about how view state and ASP.NET page cycle works. I just don't understand this part here: If this were the case, then in step 3 the Label's Text property would be assigned to "Hello, World!" in the instantiation stage, but would not be reassigned to "Goodbye, Everyone!" in the load view state stage. Therefore, from the end user's perspective, the Label's Text property would be "Goodbye, Everyone!" in step 2, but would seemingly be reset to its original value ("Hello, World!") in step 3, after clicking the Empty Postback button. This paragraph is after the three step 1, step 2, step 3 boxes. Why wouldn't the label's text property be reassigned to "Goodbye, Everyone" in the load view state?

• Remembering Form information

  Hi everyone! I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I feel my situation is a little different... I have a huge form (like 50 questions involving checkboxes, drop downs, text boxes and textareas) When a user submits a form and the validation page throws an error, is there an easy way to keep the info they entered? My intitial form is on form.php and then the form action is form_posted.php, before anything is run on form_posted.php I have my validation code which sends the user back to form.php with an error number (eg. form.php?error=3) if there was a problem with any in particular. This is done with header("form.php?error=3") so on form.php do the posted variables exist? even tho the page wasn't specifically sent with any posted variables. Also if this is the case, is it completely secure to be making the value of a textbox what it was before? like <input type="text" value="php echo $_POSTED["username"] ?>">

• Creating quick GUI front ends

  Hi, I wanted to have a GUI front-end for a script that accepts numerous command-line options, most of them are UNIX paths. So I thought rather than typing them in (even with auto-completion) every time, I'd create a GUI front end which contains text boxes with buttons beside them, which when clicked will invoke the file browser dialogue. Later, I thought I'd extend this to other scripts which would sure require a different set of GUI elements. This made me think if there's any existing app that would let me create a GUI dialog, after parsing some kind of description of the items that I want that window should contain. I know of programs like Zenity, but I think it's doesn't give me what I want. For example, if I were to use it for the first script, it'll end up flashing sequence of windows in succession rather than getting everything done from a single window. So, basically I'm looking at some program that lets me create a window from a text description, probably XML or the like. Please suggest. Thanks Jeenu

  I'm about to change my application to include tool tips for all buttons, combo boxes, etc. I was wondering if there are any recommendations on doing this. For every control I'd like the tooltip to show the control's name in bold, followed by the description. I want to keep the style separated from the control, so I can change the tooltip style globally. What I would like to have, unless there's a better suggestion, is two additional fields per button/combobox/etc: 1-ToolTipName and 2-ToolTipDesc, both containing a string. How can I accomplish this (and is it even possible?).

  If someone types in a phrase, such as: I see you driving round town with the girl I love, and I’m like: haiku. (no blank lines between each line, but the text is written on three separate lines) into a text box on a web page, and then presses a button which is then stored in a database via Django, and that string is read back and printed on a page, how can I get it to print on an HTML page with the newlines still in the text? So instead of it being printed back as: I see you driving round town with the girl I love, and I’m like: haiku. It would print as: I see you driving round town with the girl I love, and I’m like: haiku. I know that if I use: (textarea)soAndSo.body(/textarea), this preserves the newlines that were in the file when the user typed it up originally. How can I get this same effect, but without having to use textarea boxes?

  I am developing an addon to Firefox using addon-builder. I want to replace a normal alert box in Javascript with my addon. So, I have choosen customized alert boxes using jQuery. The jAlert details are given here. Now, I made customized alerts (with title and colors in alert). It is wroking properly on some websites. But on some websites the default CSS is dominating my jQuery CSS, which leads to unexpected alerts (ugly alerts).

• Format table header

  I have a table with slanted text in the header row, the only problem is that the text still makes the width of the columns way to large. Is there any way to squish together the table columns so that they are about the width of the select boxes? Or is there a way to place the text there without it in the header and maybe just use a <div> or <p>?   I want to create some diagrams for some papers. Diagrams will contain some text, e.g. some console output. I need images for using also in html files. There is TikZ so can create images like this: http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/boxes-with-text-and-math/ http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/rule-based-diagram/ http://www.texample.net/tikz/examples/scenario-tree/ but as a result I get some ps/pdf files, not images. What's more I want to generate the pictures from text files as I want to track changes in some VCS, any binary files are not suitable for that.

  Hey All, Okay, so I have an iphone app that presents the user with a UIWebview of an html page with a form I created. The form has standard stuff like a message box and dropdown boxes. Once the user fills out the form and clicks submit, it saves the information as nsstrings in my program. Okay, no problem there. That all works fine. However, I also wanna be able to edit this form as well. Once I save all this information the user selected in the form (as strings), is there a way to put it back into an html form using an uiwebview so a user of the app can edit the info later on?? I apologize in advance if I didn't give enough info.

• Is it possible to create a sub window which will not deactivate the parent?

  Normally when creating a sub window (WS_POPUP), the child window will become activate and the parent will become deactivated. However, with menus, both remain active. At least I am assuming the menu is active, it at least has focus. Example: Click on the file menu in notepad, the menu appears, yet the notepad window still looks active. Is it possible to mirror this behavior with either a window style or responding to a particular message? Thanks Another example: Combo boxes seem to show a subwindow, yet do not deactivate the window. And you can click on that subwindow, while still maintaining an activate main window. Any ideas on how to grab the class /style of that window?

• SHFileOperation replace file dialog

  Currently, SHFileOperation has some confirm file replacement dialog boxes that ask the user if they would like to replace a file or not. I find these useful, but I would like to be able to modify the scenario in which they occur. Instead, I would like to compare the file contents first with a bool compareFile() function I wrote. Then, if the files are identical the file replacement dialog box will not come up. Assuming, I already have a working compareFile() function, is there a way for me to do this? • ORB forwards to a wrong location

  I have an orbd started at a virtual host (with the IP A), with some remote object registered. Box that hosts virual boxes has IP B. When client tries to connect to the ORB at A to acquire the NamingContext, ORB replies with a LocationForward message poiniting to host B and port 1049 (like if another ORB would be started at that host). NamingContext is returned successfully, but obviously I'm not able to acqure the objects, registered at the NamingContext (at ORB hosted at A) by the name. Could anyone please explain what's happening? How can I access the orb hosted at A remotely? Thanks in advance.

This works, however when I do "View Page Source" in chrome, the list contains the original list and not the newly added items.   I have two separate areas in my form. Left side for radio buttons, combo boxes, etc. Right side for tabs and even tabs within tabs. For each tab selected, I'd like to display different controls on the left side for use in that tab. • WebView with NSShadow slowdown

  I have a webview that shows some animated boxes, but it slows down and lags horribly when I put a drop shadow in the view. Without the shadow, the webview contents animate smoothly. I achieved a similar effect as safari/chrome when you do a elastic scroll with the touchpad. Looks nice! But doesnt run as smooth as in my inspirations.   I have a two column TreeView attached to a ListStore. Both columns are CellRenderCombo combo boxes. When the user selects an entry in the first box, I need to dynamically load a set of options in the second. For example, the behavior I want is: On row 0, the user selects "Alphabet" in the first column box. The second column box is populated with the letters "A-Z". On row 1, the user selects "Numbers" in the first column box. The second column box is populated with the numbers "0-9". On row 2, the user selects "Alphabet" in the first column box.
