  • SystemStackError in Rails::ActiveSupport::Callbacks

    - by coreyward
    I'm building a Rails app that connects to Dropbox and syncs with a folder to update a personal site. I'm using Rails 3.0.3, Ruby 1.9.2, and the Dropbox gem. Right now I have a DropboxAccounts Controller, and two models: DropboxSession, which wraps calls to the gem with application-specific functionality, and DropboxAccount, which stores the session and settings in the database. After the user authorizes their account with Dropbox they're redirected back over and the DropboxAccount is saved with the authorized session. That all works just fine. My problem is that when I try to call Dropbox::API#create_folder(any path) I end up with a SystemStackError in lib/activesupport/callbacks.rb:421 which refers to the code below. If I remove the call to create the folder, it works. If I call create folder from another request, it works. I doubled the stack size to 16K to no avail. # This is called the first time a callback is called with a particular # key. It creates a new callback method for the key, calculating # which callbacks can be omitted because of per_key conditions. # def __create_keyed_callback(name, kind, object, &blk) #:nodoc: @_keyed_callbacks ||= {} @_keyed_callbacks[name] ||= begin str = send("_#{kind}_callbacks").compile(name, object) class_eval <<-RUBY_EVAL, __FILE__, __LINE__ + 1 def #{name}() #{str} end # THIS IS LINE 421 protected :#{name} RUBY_EVAL true end end I'm not very familiar with Rails yet, and I'm not sure what the intention of the code above is or why it would cause a stack overflow. I'm not using any method_missing/ghost method magic in my code. I suspected it was something with a callback serialize :files but commenting it out did nothing. My DropboxAccount model contains only a call to belongs_to :user, and DropboxSession is just a handful of methods, none of which contain callbacks. Bypassing them and using the Dropbox::Session methods directly doesn't help. I hope someone on StackOverflow can help me with this stack overflow. ;)

  • Python: Copying files with special characters in path

    - by erikderwikinger
    Hi is there any possibility in Python 2.5 to copy files having special chars (Japanese chars, cyrillic letters) in their path? shutil.copy cannot handle this. here is some example code: import copy, os,shutil,sys fname=os.getenv("USERPROFILE")+"\\Desktop\\testfile.txt" print fname print "type of fname: "+str(type(fname)) fname0 = unicode(fname,'mbcs') print fname0 print "type of fname0: "+str(type(fname0)) fname1 = unicodedata.normalize('NFKD', fname0).encode('cp1251','replace') print fname1 print "type of fname1: "+str(type(fname1)) fname2 = unicode(fname,'mbcs').encode(sys.stdout.encoding) print fname2 print "type of fname2: "+str(type(fname2)) shutil.copy(fname2,'C:\\') the output on a Russian Windows XP C:\Documents and Settings\+????????????\Desktop\testfile.txt type of fname: <type 'str'> C:\Documents and Settings\?????????????\Desktop\testfile.txt type of fname0: <type 'unicode'> C:\Documents and Settings\+????????????\Desktop\testfile.txt type of fname1: <type 'str'> C:\Documents and Settings\?????????????\Desktop\testfile.txt type of fname2: <type 'str'> Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\Test\getuserdir.py", line 23, in <module> shutil.copy(fname2,'C:\\') File "C:\Python25\lib\shutil.py", line 80, in copy copyfile(src, dst) File "C:\Python25\lib\shutil.py", line 46, in copyfile fsrc = open(src, 'rb') IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: 'C:\\Documents and Settings\\\x80\ xa4\xac\xa8\xad\xa8\xe1\xe2\xe0\xa0\xe2\xae\xe0\\Desktop\\testfile.txt'

  • Resque: Slow worker startup and Forking

    - by David John
    I'm currently moving my application from a Linode setup to EC2. Redis is currently installed on a remote instance with various worker instances interacting with the queue. Thats all going fantastic. My problem is with the amount of time it takes for a worker to be 'instantiated' and slow forking. Starting a worker will usually take between 30 seconds and a minute(from god.rb starting the worker rake task and the worker actively starting work on the queue). I could live with that, but I've not experienced such a wait time on my current Linode production box so I believe its one of my symptoms to a bigger problem. Next issue is that jobs that took a second or less in my previous environment now seem to take about 5 to 10 times longer.. I'm assuming this must be some sort of issue with my Ubuntu install on EC2? One notable difference is that I'm running REE 1.8.7-2010.01 in my new setup, and REE 1.8.6 on the old Linode boxes. Anyone else experienced these issues?

  • Ruby Alias and module_function

    - by Jesse J
    I'm trying to debug someone else's code and having trouble figuring out what's wrong. When I run rake, one of the errors I get is: 2) Error: test_math(TestRubyUnits): NoMethodError: undefined method `unit_sin' for CMath:Module /home/user/ruby-units/lib/ruby_units/math.rb:21:in `sin' This is the function that calls the method: assert_equal Math.sin(pi), Math.sin("180 deg".unit) And this is what the class looks like: module Math alias unit_sin sin def sin(n) Unit === n ? unit_sin(n.to('radian').scalar) : unit_sin(n) end alias unit_cos cos def cos(n) Unit === n ? unit_cos(n.to('radian').scalar) : unit_cos(n) end ... module_function :unit_sin module_function :sin module_function :unit_cos module_function :cos ... end (The ellipsis means "more of the same"). As far as I can see, this is valid Ruby code. Is there something I'm missing here that's causing the error, or could the error be coming from something else? Update: I'm wondering if the problem has to do with namespaces. This code is attempting to extend CMath, so perhaps the alias and/or module_function isn't actually getting into CMath, or something like that....

  • Why is the exception thrown on memcpy using during copying LPBYTE to LPTSTR (clipboard)?

    - by user46503
    Hello, I have a LPBYTE array (taken from file) and I need to copy it into LPTSRT (actually into the clipboard). The trouble is copying work but unstable, sometime an exception was thrown (not always) and I don't understand why. The code is: FILE *fConnect = _wfopen(connectFilePath, _T("rb")); if (!fConnect) return; fseek(fConnect, 0, SEEK_END); lSize = ftell(fConnect); rewind(fConnect); LPBYTE lpByte = (LPBYTE) malloc(lSize); fread(lpByte, 1, lSize, fConnect); lpByte[lSize] = 0; fclose(fConnect); //Copy into clipboard BOOL openRes = OpenClipboard(NULL); if (!openRes) return; DWORD err = GetLastError(); EmptyClipboard(); HGLOBAL hText; hText = GlobalAlloc(GMEM_MOVEABLE, (lSize+ sizeof(TCHAR))); LPTSTR sMem = (TCHAR*)GlobalLock(hText); memcpy(sMem, lpByte, (lSize + sizeof(TCHAR))); The last string is the place where the exception is thrown. Thanks a lot

  • Validate HAML from ActiveRecord: scope/controller/helpers for link_to etc?

    - by Chris Boyle
    I like HAML. So much, in fact, that in my first Rails app, which is the usual blog/CMS thing, I want to render the body of my Page model using HAML. So here is app/views/pages/_body.html.haml: .entry-content= Haml::Engine.new(body, :format => :html5).render ...and it works (yay, recursion). What I'd like to do is validate the HAML in the body when creating or updating a Page. I can almost do that, but I'm stuck on the scope argument to render. I have this in app/models/page.rb: validates_each :body do |record, attr, value| begin Haml::Engine.new(value, :format => :html5).render(record) rescue Exception => e record.errors.add attr, "line #{(e.respond_to? :line) && e.line || 'unknown'}: #{e.message}" end end You can see I'm passing record, which is a Page, but even that doesn't have a controller, and in particular doesn't have any helpers like link_to, so as soon as a Page uses any of that it's going to fail to validate even when it would actually render just fine. So I guess I need a controller as scope for this, but accessing that from here in the model (where the validator is) is a big MVC no-no, and as such I don't think Rails gives me a way to do it. (I mean, I suppose I could stash a controller in some singleton somewhere or something, but... excuse me while I throw up.) What's the least ugly way to properly validate HAML in an ActiveRecord validator?

  • CanCan polymorphic resource access problem

    - by Call 'naive' True
    Hi everybody, i don't quite understand how to restrict access to links in this particular case with CanCan. I always get "Edit" link displayed. So i believe the problem is in my incorrect definition of cancan methods(load_ and authorize_). I have CommentsController like that: class CommentsController < ApplicationController before_filter :authenticate_user! load_resource :instance_name => :commentable authorize_resource :article def index @commentable = find_commentable #loading our generic object end ...... private def find_commentable params.each { |name, value| if name =~ /(.+)_id$/ return $1.classify.constantize.includes(:comments => :karma).find(value) end } end end and i have in comments/index.html.erb following code that render file from other controller: <%= render :file => "#{get_commentable_partial_name(@commentable)}/show.html.erb", :collection => @commentable %> you can think about "#{get_commentable_partial_name(@commentable)}" like just "articles" in this case. Content of "articles/show.html.erb": <% if can? :update, @commentable %> <%= link_to 'Edit', edit_article_path(@commentable) %> | <% end %> my ability.rb: class Ability include CanCan::Ability def initialize(user) user ||= User.new # guest user if user.role? :admin can :manage, :all elsif user.role? :author can :read, [Article, Comment, Profile] can :update, Article, :user_id => user.id end end end relations with models is: class Comment < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :commentable, :polymorphic => true, :dependent => :destroy ... end class Article < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :comments, :as => :commentable, :dependent => :destroy ... end i have tried debug this issue like that user = User.first article = Article.first ability = Ability.new(user) ability.can?(:update, article) and i always get "= true" in ability check Note: user.role == author and article.user_id != user.id if you need more information please write thank's for your time && sorry for my english

  • Python: Errors saving and loading objects with pickle module

    - by Peterstone
    Hi, I am trying to load and save objects with this piece of code I get it from a question I asked a week ago: Python: saving and loading objects and using pickle. The piece of code is this: class Fruits: pass banana = Fruits() banana.color = 'yellow' banana.value = 30 import pickle filehandler = open("Fruits.obj","wb") pickle.dump(banana,filehandler) filehandler.close() file = open("Fruits.obj",'rb') object_file = pickle.load(file) file.close() print(object_file.color, object_file.value, sep=', ') At a first glance the piece of code works well, getting load and see the 'color' and 'value' of the saved object. But, what I pursuit is to close a session, open a new one and load what I save in a past session. I close the session after putting the line filehandler.close() and I open a new one and I put the rest of your code, then after putting object_file = pickle.load(file) I get this error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "<pyshell#5>", line 1, in <module> object_file = pickle.load(file) File "C:\Python31\lib\pickle.py", line 1365, in load encoding=encoding, errors=errors).load() AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'Fruits' Can anyone explain me what this error message means and telling me how to solve this problem? Thank so much and happy new year!!

  • git-diff to ignore ^M

  • Rails - any fancy ways to handle 404s?

    - by jyoseph
    I have a rails app I built for an old site I converted from another cms (in a non-rails language, hehe). Most of the old pages are mapped to the new pages using routes.rb. But there are still a few 404s. I am a rails newb so I'm asking if there are any advanced ways to handle 404s. For example, if I was programming in my old language I'd do this: Get the URL (script_name) that was being accessed and parse it. Do a lookup in the database for any keywords, ids, etc found in the new URL. If found, redirect to the page (or if multiple records are found, show them all on a results page and let user choose). With rails I'd probably want to do :status = :moved_permanently I'm guessing? If not found, show a 404. Are there any gems/plugins or tutorials you know of that would handle such a thing, if it's even possible. Or can you explain on a high level how that can be done? I don't need a full code sample, just a push in the right direction. PS. It's a simple rails 3 app that uses a single Content model.

  • Why rails app is redirecting unexpectedly instead of matching the route?

    - by ruevaughn
    I asked this question earlier and thought it was fixed, but it's not. Previous question here My problem is I am trying to set my routes so that when I type in localhost:3000/sites/admin It should redirect to localhost:3000/en/sites/admin here is my routes.rb file scope ":locale", locale: /#{I18n.available_locales.join("|")}/ do get "log_out" => "sessions#destroy", as: "log_out" get "log_in" => "sessions#new", as: "log_in" resources :sites, except: [:new, :edit, :index, :show, :update, :destroy, :create] do collection do get :home get :about_us get :faq get :discounts get :services get :contact_us get :admin get :posts end end resources :users resources :abouts resources :sessions resources :coupons resources :monthly_posts resources :reviews resources :categories do collection { post :sort } resources :children, :controller => :categories, :only => [:index, :new, :create, :new_subcategory] end resources :products do member do put :move_up put :move_down end end resources :faqs do collection { post :sort } end root :to => 'sites#home' match "/savesort" => 'sites#savesort' end match '', to: redirect("/#{I18n.default_locale}") match '*path', to: redirect("/#{I18n.default_locale}/%{path}") But as of right now, it redirects to /en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/sites/admin (adds en until browser complains). Any thoughts why it keeps adding /en?

  • Why does Rails screw up timezones when I am editing a resource?

    - by DJTripleThreat
    Steps to produce this: prompt>rails test_app prompt>cd test_app prompt>script/generate scaffold date_test my_date:datetime prompt>rake db:migrate now edit your app/views/date_tests/edit.html.erb: <h1>Editing date_test</h1> <% form_for(@date_test) do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> <p> RIGHT!<br/> <%= text_field_tag @date_test, f.object.my_date %> </p> <p> WRONG!<br /> <%= f.text_field :my_date %> </p> <p> <%= f.submit 'Update' %> </p> <% end %> <%= link_to 'Show', @date_test %> | <%= link_to 'Back', date_tests_path %> now edit your config/environment.rb: #add this config.time_zone = 'Central Time (US & Canada)' This recreates the problem I am having in my actual app. The problem with my app is that I'm storing a date in a hidden field and rendering a "user friendly" version. Creating a resource works fine but as soon as I try to edit it the time changes (it adds the difference between my current time zone configuration and UTC). go to http://localhost:3000/date_tests/new and save the time then go to reedit it and you will have two different representations of the date/time one which will save incorrectly and the other that will.

  • Customizing the Stars Image for Ajaxful_Rating RoR plugin

    - by Kevin
    I'm trying to come up with my own star image that's slightly smaller and different style than the one provided in the gem/plugin, but Ajaxful_rating doesn't have an easy way to do this. Here's what I've figured out so far: The stars.png in the public folder is three 25x25 pixel tiles stacked vertically, ordered empty star, normal star, and hover star. I'm assuming as long as you keep the above constraints, you should be fine without modifying any other files. But what if you want to change the image size of the stars to larger or smaller? I've found where you can change the height in the stylesheets/ajaxful_rating.css .ajaxful-rating{ position: relative; /*width: 125px; this is setted dynamically */ height: 25px; overflow: hidden; list-style: none; margin: 0; padding: 0; background-position: left top; } .ajaxful-rating li{ display: inline; } .ajaxful-rating a, .ajaxful-rating span, .ajaxful-rating .show-value{ position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; text-indent: -1000em; height: 25px; line-height: 25px; outline: none; overflow: hidden; border: none; } You just need to change every place that says "25px" above to whatever height your new star image is. This works fine but doesn't display the horizontal part correctly. Anyone know where I would look to set the horizontal part as well? (I'm assuming it's in an .rb file somewhere based upon how many stars you specified in your ajaxful_rating setup)

  • What is the Pythonic way to implement a simple FSM?

    - by Vicky
    Yesterday I had to parse a very simple binary data file - the rule is, look for two bytes in a row that are both 0xAA, then the next byte will be a length byte, then skip 9 bytes and output the given amount of data from there. Repeat to the end of the file. My solution did work, and was very quick to put together (even though I am a C programmer at heart, I still think it was quicker for me to write this in Python than it would have been in C) - BUT, it is clearly not at all Pythonic and it reads like a C program (and not a very good one at that!) What would be a better / more Pythonic approach to this? Is a simple FSM like this even still the right choice in Python? My solution: #! /usr/bin/python import sys f = open(sys.argv[1], "rb") state = 0 if f: for byte in f.read(): a = ord(byte) if state == 0: if a == 0xAA: state = 1 elif state == 1: if a == 0xAA: state = 2 else: state = 0 elif state == 2: count = a; skip = 9 state = 3 elif state == 3: skip = skip -1 if skip == 0: state = 4 elif state == 4: print "%02x" %a count = count -1 if count == 0: state = 0 print "\r\n"

  • Refactoring routes - serving different layouts

    - by dmclark
    As a Rails NOOB, I started with a routes.rb of: ActionController::Routing::Routes.draw do |map| map.resources :events map.connect 'affiliates/list', :controller => "affiliates", :action => "list" map.connect 'affiliates/regenerate_thumb/:id', :controller => "affiliates", :action => "regenerate_thumb" map.connect 'affiliates/state/:id.:format', :controller => "affiliates", :action => "find_by_state" map.connect 'affiliates/getfeed', :controller => "affiliates", :action => "feed" map.resources :affiliates, :has_many => :events map.connect ":controller/:action" map.connect '', :controller => "affiliates" map.connect ":controller/:action/:id" map.connect ":controller/:action/:id/:format" end and i'm trying to tighten it up. and I've gotten as far as: ActionController::Routing::Routes.draw do |map| map.resources :events, :only => "index" map.resources :affiliates do |affiliates| affiliates.resources :has_many => :events affiliates.resources :collection => { :list => :get, :regenerate_thumb => "regenerate_thumb" } end # map.connect 'affiliates/regenerate_thumb/:id', :controller => "affiliates", :action => "regenerate_thumb" map.connect 'affiliates/state/:id.:format', :controller => "affiliates", :action => "find_by_state" map.connect 'affiliates/getfeed', :controller => "affiliates", :action => "feed" map.root :affiliates end what is confusing to me is routes vs parameters.. For example, I realized that the only difference between list and index is HOW it is rendered, rather than WHAT is rendered. Having a different action (as I do now) feels wrong but I can't figure out he right way. Thanks

I think the time taken by the exec to execute and create a file is the cause for the issue.. but i dont know how to fix it? i tried sleep() but it makes my script to run slow <?php error_reporting(E_ALL); extension_loaded('ffmpeg') or die('Error in loading ffmpeg'); //db connection codes $max_width = 120; $max_height = 72; $path ="/path/"; $qry="select id, input_file, output_file from videos where thumbnail='' or thumbnail is null;"; $res=mysql_query($qry); $cnt = 1; while($row = mysql_fetch_array($res,MYSQL_ASSOC)) { $outfile = $row[output_file]; $imgname = $cnt.".png"; $srcfile = "/path/".$outfile; echo "####$srcfile####"; exec("ffmpeg -i ".$srcfile." -r 1 -ss 00:00:05 -f image2 -s 120x72 ".$path.$imgname); $nname = "./temp/".$imgname; echo "nname===== $nname"; $fileo = fopen($nname,"rb"); if($fileo) { $imgData = addslashes(file_get_contents($nname)); .. ... .... } else echo "Could not open<br><br>"; $cnt = $cnt + 1: } ?>

  • Rails: Rendered JS file doesn't execute using UJS

    - by Hassinus
    I would like to display a Rails edit form using JS instead of redirecting with HTML. To do this, I use UJS for the edit link: <%= link_to "Edit user info", edit_user_path(1), :remote => true %> Then, the "edit" action of User controller is like this (simplified version): controllers/users_controller.rb: def edit # Step 1: Get the edit HTML form @html = render_to_string(:template => "users/edit.html") # Step 2: Use JS to display the form in the correct place render "users/edit.js" end As you may guess, I have two views: The html version of "edit" action which contains the form in HTML format. Let's consider a test version: views/users/edit.html.erb: <h1>This is just a test</h1> The js version that will display the form in the correct place, using jQuery for example. Again, for test purpose, let's just popup the html text: views/users/edit.js.erb: alert("<%= @html %>"); The problem is that nothing is executed (no popup) Using the inspector (from Chrome web browser), I get the response as text format: alert("<h1>This is just a test</h1>"); Do you have any idea? Why do the rendered JS is not executed? Thanks in advance.

  • Ruby core documentation quality

    - by karatedog
    I'm relatively new to Ruby and have limited time therefore I try out simple things. Recently I needed to create a file and because I'm lazy as hell, I run to Google. The result: File.open(local_filename, 'w') {|f| f.write(doc) } Shame on me, it is very straightforward, should have done it myself. Then I wanted to check what ruby magic the File class' methods offer or if there's any 'simplification' when invoking those methods, so I headed for the documentation here, and checked for the File class. 1.8.6 documentation presents me with "ftools.rb: Extra tools for the File class" under 'File' class, which is not what I'm looking for. 1.8.7 documentation seems OK for 'File' class, there are a plethora of methods. Except 'open'. 1.9 documentation finally shows me the 'open' method. And I had an almost same tour with Net::HTTP. Do I exaggerate when I think good old Turbo Pascal's 7.0 documentation was better organized than Ruby documentation is right now? Is there any other source for the uninitiated to collect knowledge? Or is it possible that I just tumbled into a documentation hole and the rest are super-brilliant-five-star organized? Thanks

  • Simple binary File I/O problem with cstdio(c++)

    - by Atilla Filiz
    The c++ program below fails to read the file. I know using cstdio is not good practice but that what I am used to and it should work anyway. $ ls -l l.uyvy -rw-r--r-- 1 atilla atilla 614400 2010-04-24 18:11 l.uyvy $ ./a.out l.uyvy Read 0 bytes out of 614400, possibly wrong file code: #include<cstdio> int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { FILE *fp; if(argc<2) { printf("usage: %s <input>\n",argv[0]); return 1; } fp=fopen(argv[1],"rb"); if(!fp) { printf("erör, cannot open %s for reading\n",argv[1]); return -1; } int bytes_read=fread(imgdata,1,2*IMAGE_SIZE,fp); //2bytes per pixel fclose(fp); if(bytes_read < 2*IMAGE_SIZE) { printf("Read %d bytes out of %d, possibly wrong file\n", bytes_read, 2*IMAGE_SIZE); return -1; } return 0; }

  • Rails upload file to ftp server

    - by Bob
    I'm on Rails 2.3.5 and Ruby 1.8.6 and trying to figure out how to let a user upload a file to a FTP server on a different machine than my Rails app. Also my Rails app will be hosted on Heroku which doesn't facilitate the writing of files to the local filesystem. index.html.erb <% form_tag '/ftp/upload', :method => :post, :multipart => true do %> <label for="file">File to Upload</label> <%= file_field_tag "file" %> <%= submit_tag 'Upload' %> <% end %> ftp_controller.rb require 'net/ftp' class FtpController < ApplicationController def upload file = params[:file] ftp = Net::FTP.new('remote-ftp-server') ftp.login(user = "***", passwd = "***") ftp.puttextfile(file.read, File.basename(file.original_filename)) ftp.quit() end def index end end Currently I'm just trying to get the Rails app to work on my Windows laptop. With the above code, I'm getting this error Errno::ENOENT in FtpController#upload No such file or directory -.... followed by a dump of the file contents Anyone knows what's going on?

  • declarative_authorization permissions on roles

    - by William
    Hey all, I'm trying to add authorization to a rather large app that already exists, but I have to obfuscate the details a bit. Here's the background: In our app we have a number or roles that are hierarchical, roughly like this: BasicUser -> SuperUser -> Admin -> SuperAdmin For authorization each User model instance has an attribute 'role' which corresponds to the above. We have a RESTful controller "Users" that is namespaced under Backoffice. So in short it's Backoffice::UsersController. class Backoffice::UsersController < ApplicationController filter_access_to :all #... RESTful actions + some others end So here's the problem: We want users to be able to give permissions for users to edit users but ONLY if they have a 'smaller' role than they currently have. I've created the following in authorization_rules.rb authorization do role :basic_user do has_permission_on :backoffice_users, :to => :index end role :super_user do includes :basic_user has_permission_on :backoffice_users, :to => :edit do if_attribute :role => is_in { %w(basic_user) } end end role :admin do includes :super_user end role :super_admin do includes :admin end end And unfortunately that's as far as I got, the rule doesn't seem to get applied. If I comment the rule out, nobody can edit If I leave the rule in you can edit everybody I've also tried a couple of variations on the if_attribute: if_attribute :role => is { 'basic_user' } if_attribute :role => 'basic_user' and they get the same effect. Does anybody have any suggestions?
