    Video in VLC or SMplayer is often in black and white with washed-out colors in the wrong place (translated considerably). Moreover, the last video image is often visible when a new video is started and persist as long as the new video is running. Colors have a recognizable shape (e.g. a persons clothes or face), but can be obviously incorrect (e.g. green or purples faces). This is independent of the format of the videos (mp4, mkv, wmv). Sometimes all problems disappear when a new video is started, but often only a reboot restores normal video. Ubuntu was upgraded to 14.04 and is fully updated.   • Adding new events to be handled by script part without recompilation of c++ source code

    As in title I want to write an Event system with handling methods written in external script language, that is Angelscript. The AS methods would have acess to game's world modifing API ( which has to be regsitered for Angelscript Machine as the game starts) . I have come to this problem : if we use the Angelsript for rapid prototyping of the game's world behavior , we would like to be able to define new Event Types, without recompiling the main binary. Is that ever possible , don't stick to Angelscript, I think about any possible scripting language. The main thought is this : If there's some really new Event possible to be constructed , we must monitor some information coming from the binary, for example some variable value changing and the Events are just triggered on some conditions on those changes , wer might be monitoring the Creatures HP, by having a function call on each change, there we could define new Events such as Creature hurt, creature killed, creature healed , creature killed and tormented to pieces ( like geting HP very much below 0 ) . Are there any other ideas of constructing new Events at the scripting side ?

  • How can I install Celtx 2.9.7 properly on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?

    I am new to Ubuntu and Linux and I want to install and use the newest version of the screenwriting software Celtx on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. After trying https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+question/206295 and using sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dreamstudio/video sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install celtx I unfortunately had to find out that was a rather old version with a fairly screwed up UI. I then downloaded the newest version from http://download.celtx.com/2.9.7/Celtx-2.9.7-64.tar.bz2 but now I don't know how to properly install it. I extracted it to /home/username/ (there was no ~/bin/) as described here and I can now launch the application by running the file celtx within that folder (I get asked whether I want to Display, run or run it in Terminal) and it works fine. But I can't get it to launch from Unity. I tried right-clicking the launcher button and going "Lock to Launcher" while it's running and it does create an icon but clicking it to launch the program does nothing. Also searching for celtx in the Dash doesn't find the app. And advice on how to properly install Celtx 2.9.7 in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?

  • Using Upstart after building Apache & Mysql from source

    I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, Apache 2.2.17 and Mysql 5.5.10. I need some assistance getting Apache and Mysql running on boot. Reading the getting started over at upstart website attempting to get it to work. I added /etc/init/apache2.conf along with the following line: exec /usr/local/apache2/bin/apachectl I'm probably doing everything wrong, could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks. :)

  • Compiling LaTeX document makes Google Drive crash

    I've the issue that when I compile a LaTeX document that is located inside my Google Drive this will after a few turns make the OSX Google Drive application crash. As this is an important document I want to keep it all the time inside the Google Drive location to ensure cloud backup but this ofcourse is not guaranteed if this makes my Google Drive crash all the time. I don't seem te be able to identify what is causing this and I was hoping that maybe some people here have any idea what might cause this? We're talking about a 8 pages document with 3 images, so nothing crazy big or complex.

  • After compiling PHP, I get mod_fcgid: error reading data from FastCGI server

    I'm trying to add multiple PHP version in Plesk 12. Switching my domain to the new version PHP 5.4.29 result in this error: (104)Connection reset by peer: mod_fcgid: error reading data from FastCGI server Here is phpinfo() of the complied PHP version, obtained running php54-cgi index.php from the terminal.     Hi, I'm trying to make an RPM with PHP 5.3.1 and PHP-FPM 0.6 for CentOS 5.4. I have however specified the BuildRoot in the header of the spec file and I can see it is passed correctly to the make install command. Does anyone have some idea of what is going wrong here?   • Compiling PHP with GD crashes with EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP) on PPC Mac

    First of all, I should say that I have searched the whole Internet for this problem but I couldn't find any solution yet. I have a Mac mini PowerPC (PPC) and I run Apache webserver (httpd-2.2.22) with PHP (5.4.0) and I do all the configure & compilation jobs by myself. If configure with: './configure' '--prefix=/usr/local/php5' '--mandir=/usr/share/man' '--infodir=/usr/share/info' '--sysconfdir=/etc' '--with-config-file-path=/etc' '--with-zlib' '--with-zlib-dir=/usr' '--with-openssl=/usr' '--without-iconv' '--enable-exif' '--enable-ftp' '--enable-mbstring' '--enable-mbregex' '--enable-sockets' '--with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql' '--with-pdo-mysql=/usr/local/mysql' '--with-mysqli=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config' '--with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs' '--with-mcrypt' then the PHP works flawlessly. But if I add the GD module by adding these to the script above: '--with-gd' '--with-jpeg-dir=/usr/local/lib' '--with-freetype-dir=/usr/X11R6' '--with-png-dir=/usr/X11R6' '--with-xpm-dir=/usr/X11R6' the PHP gets configured and compiled without any errors but it causes EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP) (see the Crash Reporter log below) when I request a page which calls PHP module. It's obvious that something related to the GD module is causing this, probably FreeType module because it's present in the log but it may not be definite of course. When the PHP crashes (or more accurately, httpd) the CPU goes 100% for 10 to 15 seconds until it recovers. I need to use the GD module and keep the Mac mini PowerPC.   • Best approach to accessing multiple data source in a web application

    I've a base web application developed with .net technologies (asp.net) used into our LAN by 30 users simultanousley. From this web application I've developed two verticalization used from online users. In future i expect hundreds users simultanousley. Our company has different locations. Each site use its own database. The web application needs to retrieve information from all existing databases. Currently there are 3 database, but it's not excluded in the future expansion of new offices. My question then is: What is the best strategy for a web application to retrieve information from different databases (which have the same schema) whereas the main objective performance data access and high fault tolerance? There are case studies in the literature that I can take as an example? Do you know some good documents to study? Do you have any tips to implement this task so efficient? Intuitively I would say that two possible strategy are: perform queries from different sources in real time and aggregate data on the fly; create a repository that contains the union of the entities of interest and perform queries directly on repository;

  • Non-Profit Technololgy for Non-Profits?

    I've been looking around for a way to give back to the community, but I haven't found my right fit yet, so an idea came to mind: A non-profit technology "company" that targets non-profits. Do these exist? I've been doing some google searches and can only find software that is targeted for non-profits that is created by for-profit companies or that charges what I believe to be an outrages amount, conferences directed towards non-profits and technology they may use -- or articles complaining about the digital divide and how non-profits view technology as key but dont have the funds or the knowledge to employ it. Pseudo "Business Model" An open source 501(3)(c) organization that targets directly targets non-profits to fill the "digital divide." Most services would be free and consulting fees would be charged for customization. Donations would be accepted and government grants would be sought after. This would enable non-profits to keep pace with the for-profits in the technology sector, but at little to no cost. Perhaps the first "industry" to be targeted would be those that fill key social needs like unemployment, or food banks.

  • What makes a person contribute to opensource? [duplicate]

    This question already has an answer here: Why develop free, open source programs? [closed] 14 answers I know this is controversial, but.. There are many great projects like Apache Webserver or Hadoop provided by the OpenSource Community. I often feel that the people that actually benefit (financially), from these projects are developers like me, sitting in India, working for MNCs, who has never contributed anything to any opensource project so far, but earn handsomely due to my basic googling skills & the community provided documentation. Is it fair ? I mean no other industry in the world face such dilemma.Those who work get paid. I mean I almost am starting to feel guilty of taking such advantage of some thing that I contribute nothing to. I had to do projects every semester in college (we could choose projects) & I used to enjoy coding then. I want to contribute. But contributing to opensource is not a task [unlike college or office work]. And life is so busy .. Are all these opensource contributors really jobless ?[just kidding..] Could someone please share some personal experiences on how you guys started contributing or any advice on why I should contribute or what attitude in life makes you keep aside time or is it that you just crazly love writing code or is it that you just love to see your name in the contributors list or do you have a local coding group you hang out with ? Do you feel I am destined to do this ? This is my part of contributing back to the world ? Whats that basic mentality that make you guys want to contribute, while I just want to finish my work and go home. What makes you guys tick ?
