  Fashion retailers such as H&M, Zara, and Wet Seal have perfected the fast fashion retailing model. The concept requires no replenishment in order to maintain assortment freshness and to create a sense of urgency for the consumer to purchase now. However, maintaining assortment freshness results in high product turnover, making markdown optimization a necessity. Wet Seal, for instance, needed to move from ad-hoc markdowns and dealing with surplus inventory to handling markdowns methodically across 8,000 SKUs with only 12-15 week lifecycle (from DC receipt to exit). By optimizing and automating markdowns, Wet Seal is reaching their goal of assortment freshness, which in turn increases sales.   The ASP.NET MVC2 templates feature is a pretty nice way to quickly scaffold objects at runtime. Be sure to read Brad Wilsons fantastic series on this topic starting at ASP.NET MVC 2 Templates, Part 1: Introduction. As great as this feature is, there is one template thats conspicuously missing. ASP.NET MVC does not include a template for displaying a list of objects in a tabular format.   I have a 20 GB NTFS volume that I was planning on using for a variety of purposes, including being readable by windows with little effort. Unfortunately, for some reason, I cannot execute any files on the drive, even after following the answer here (I was able to mount the volume just fine, but the error persists). How can I fix this?   Last week I gave a presentations to the 2011 UC Davis IT Security Symposium that covered input validation features in HTML5.  I mostly discussed the following three topics: New Html5 Input Types (like <input type=”email” />) Html5 Constraints (like <input type=”text” required maxlength=”8” />) Polyfills The slides only cover part of the story since there are a few “live demos.”  You can find all of the demo code on my github repository https://github.com/srkirkland/ITSecuritySymposium.  You’ll need ASP.NET Mvc 3 installed to run them.   Hi Guys I would like to run a Java program with garbage collection switched off. Managing memory in my own code is not so difficult. However the program needs quite a lot of I/O. Is there any way (short of using JNI for all I/O operations) that I could achieve this using pure Java? Thanks Daniel

• Navigate to prev and next pdf file?

  I got a pdf viewer in a uiwebview, from Daniel Barry http://github.com/danberry/PDF-Viewer and it works really well, it displays a pdf doc that you can scroll up and down. Now I would like to display just one page at the time and also have a menu underneat the pdf page with a prev and next button. Can anybody help a newbe to figure out how? Thanks!

• Twitter authentication without authorization

  I wish to get the tweeter usename of a visitor to my site. I do not wish to post statuses or access any other information. I'd be happy to use OAuth, possibly with a 'Sign in with Twitter' button, but this then takes the user to a page which requests authorization for the application, that I wish to avoid. Is there a way to get the username without authorization? Thanks, Daniel
