  • Force ntfs volumes to be treated like any other by default

    I have a 20 GB NTFS volume that I was planning on using for a variety of purposes, including being readable by windows with little effort. Unfortunately, for some reason, I cannot execute any files on the drive, even after following the answer here (I was able to mount the volume just fine, but the error persists). How can I fix this?   • Bootable SD card still has small memory, even after formating

    I have an SD card which I used to run my RaspberryPi. I wanted to update the copy of raspbian on it, so I formated the card using the software from www.sdcard.com. I followed all the instructions correctly, however the size of my SD card didn't go back to it's default. It is a 4gb SD card, which after it's spell in the RaspberryPi had shrunken to 52mb, which I understand is normal. After formatting, the size rose to 3.69gb. This means that there is not enough space to install a new OS, so how can I make my SD card 4gb again? Any help would be much appreciated!

  • Server freeze restarted quickly so how do I fiond what went wrong?

    I have a SQL SERVER DB running on a windows server 2008 (VMWare) Yesterday I could not RDP to it so I ended some RDP sessions which were left logged in. This seemed to solve the problem. However last night I learned that the DB was inaccessible and unresponsive to customers. My colleague checked the server but again is unable to create an RDP connection. He then restarted the server and since it has been fine. Looking at the CPU Readings of the Server it spiked up to 100% before the original RDP problem .After I ended the extra seeions uit again dropped down to normal levels however before the time of the customer complaint it had rose to 100% again - before it had to be restarted. Is there anyway I can investigate which processes may have caused the problem in the first place. Would there be some kind of memory dump from when it was restarted. I would prefer to find out what is wrong now instead of waiting until it happens again.

  • apt-get doesnt download files from NFS location

    I have switched to unix from last 3 months and trying to understand install process and in particular apt-get. I am able to successfully install and download the packages when I configure my repository on http location in /etc/apt/sources.list file. e.g. deb http://web.myspqce.com/u/eng/rose/debian-mirror-squeeze-amd64/mirror/ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free This command will download(/var/cache/apt/archive) and install the package when i use apt-get install When I change the source location to file instead of http(nfs mount point), the package is getting installed but NOT getting downloaded in /var/cache/apt/archive. deb file:/deb_repository/debian-mirror-squeeze-amd64/mirror/ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free Please let me know if there is any configuration or settings that i have to make to let apt-get to both download and install package when i use (nfs)file:/ instead of http:/ in sources.list. To achieve this, I can use apt-get --downlaod-only and then use apt-get install for both download and install in two separate calls, but I want to know why package is not getting downloaded with apt-get install but only getting installed when used with file:/ in sources.list

  • Do large number of internal broken links affect SEO?

    We've a WordPress blog and had disqus plugin in stalled for several months. Around late August this year, the plugin created a ton of URLs that linked to non-existent location on our website. For example - Correct URL: domain.com/correct-URL/ Disqus created - domain.com/correct-URL/344322/ - Throws 404 domain.com/correct-URL/433466/ - Throws 404 So essentially, Google found a LARGE number of broken links that pointed to unknown locations on our own domain. As the count of those errors (404) rose, our site suffered massive drop in traffic and crawl rate dropped to 10% of what it was earlier. I wish to know - Can large number of (we've over 99k of them) internal broken links cause rankings to drop? I've fixed the issue in one go by creating 301 redirects for each bad URL to correct URL and removing disqus. Google however drops the count by ~1000 daily, as I mark errors as 'fixed' in Google Webmaster Tools. Is there any way to speed this up? Should I setup custom crawl rate to 'Fast' in GWT to make Google crawl our website faster? I'd appreciate your inputs and experience sharing.

    Oracle VM VirtualBox is great for trying out the latest and greatest technologies and platforms. So when Microsoft recently announced the Developer Preview for Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1,  it was with eager anticipation that FatBloke ran to the TechNet Evaluation Center to download the isos. Once downloaded,  a new VM in VirtualBox Manager was created that used Windows 2012 (64-bit) OS type and all the defaults were selected. And on starting the VM, and pointing to the iso file to install from, the excitement rose as we saw a cool new splashscreen image: But suddenly our hopes are dashed.... It would seem that this platform requires an instruction (CMPXCHG16B) that VirtualBox doesn't offer "out-of-the-box".  Fear not, for the VirtualBox team knew that this day would finally arrive and have prepared an "in case of emergency" switch as follows: Power off the vm; At the command line type:  VBoxManage setextradata [vmname] VBoxInternal/CPUM/CMPXCHG16B 1 Start the VM and install Windows Server 2012 R2 This will be enabled by default in a future release, but geeks can't wait, hence this blog. Is there any way (short of using JNI for all I/O operations) that I could achieve this using pure Java? Thanks Daniel

    I got a pdf viewer in a uiwebview, from Daniel Barry http://github.com/danberry/PDF-Viewer and it works really well, it displays a pdf doc that you can scroll up and down. Now I would like to display just one page at the time and also have a menu underneat the pdf page with a prev and next button. Can anybody help a newbe to figure out how? Thanks!

  • Twitter authentication without authorization

    I wish to get the tweeter usename of a visitor to my site. I do not wish to post statuses or access any other information. I'd be happy to use OAuth, possibly with a 'Sign in with Twitter' button, but this then takes the user to a page which requests authorization for the application, that I wish to avoid. Is there a way to get the username without authorization? Thanks, Daniel

  • Windows repair console, imposible?

    Hi guys, I found an old Windows XP SP2 in my -trash- cd can and tryed it on a 30 gb FAT32 partition. Installation went fine till the copying operation was completed and XP asked for reboot. After that either it starts over again or throws invalid disk. Starting over is an infinite loop the only way I see is to choose the "Repair console" but i'm not used to a dos box. Can anyone help me through this harmful instalation? Cheers, Daniel

  • c# - create invisible user control

    Hey, I need to create a user control in C#.Net, which can be added to the application without being visible - just like the FolderBrowserDialog. It's a new window which I'll be using often so I think this is the right way. The window will be opened by envoking the showDialog-Method as known from the other dialog. Any Idea?
