• Is it professional to have funny looking logging messages

  Hi, Recently I have joined a new project team where in the java application logs have logged messages in a non-formal way[can't think of suitable word]. here how they look :-) <message> for info messages :-| <message> for warn :-( <message> for error besides there's also ASCII art drawing , different one for each log when that particular service starts up or is killed .And there many more styles for certain application events. iam not sure if it has any significant overhead on the application or not. I would like to ask you folks if you come across such unique styles of logging messages or do you also practice any styles.what is your opinion about it. BR /jon

Like, if u send "Hello, How are you" I am receiving it word by word. I want that in a single stretch. How can i do ?? • Why isn't "String or Binary data would be truncated" a more descriptive error?

  To start: I understand what this error means - I'm not attempting to resolve an instance of it. This error is notoriously difficult to troubleshoot, because if you get it inserting a million rows into a table 100 columns wide, there's virtually no way to determine what column of what row is causing the error - you have to modify your process to insert one row at a time, and then see which one fails. That's a pain, to put it mildly. Is there any reason that the error doesn't look more like this? String or Binary data would be truncated Error inserting value "Some 18 char value" into SomeTable.SomeColumn VARCHAR(10) That would make it a lot easier to find and correct the value, if not the table structure itself. If seeing the table data is a security concern, then maybe something generic, like giving the length of the attempted value and the name of the failing column?

• Why are error pages ignored in RESTEasy web service running on Tomcat?

  I'm developing a REST-ful web service using RESTEasy deployed on Tomcat. I've configured an error page which takes the exception's message and generates an XML based on it when any exception occurs during the request. This works fine for any application generated exceptions. However, if client sends an invalid XML which cannot be unmarshalled correctly, an javax.xml.bind.UnmarshalException is thrown and Tomcat's default error page is used instead of mine. I have configured my error page to the error-code 500 in web.xml. Is using error pages the correct way to handle errors when using RESTEasy or is there an alternative way?

Received in order sent? If so, how is clock skew handled in high traffic situations for ordering? Coming from the whole C/Thread pools/Shared State background ... I want to get this concrete. I understand distributing an application, but want to ensure the 'raw bones' are what I expect before building processes and distributing workload. Also, am I right in thinking the whole world is currently flicking through Erlang texts ;)

I need to be able to bind other stuff to them (like files, or contacts) and using a database is the best way I see for now. The same question comes for files, because they can be bound to chat messages, I have to store them in the database too..   Hi folks, I struggled asking that question but here it is. I am using source control since several years for multiple projects using different systems (svn, hg, git) and I learned how to improve my messages by following guidelines etc. But as far as I can remember I never ever had a look at them afterwards. So ... how do you profit from your own commit messages? When I need to go back because I smashed something and need a fresh start, I usually just go back to the latest "node" (where I started or merged a branch). Do I write those messages just for people monitoring the project who are curious what is going on? Regards

• Getting service unavailable message when sending messages to google xmpp using wokkel

  Hi, I made a wokkel (twisted python) bot to send and receive messages from the google xmpp service. Everything (auth, presence) etc works fine. One of the rquirements of our prject is that we need to send broadcast messages to everyone in the list. Normal messages and replies work fin, but when i snd a broadcast message, i get this service unavailable error 503 message. There are about 1000 user in my contact list. Is this some bug in the code or is it google policy to prevent rapid messaging. Also, how do other google bots cater to a large contact base ? does google provide a commercial solution for such applications ? Thanks

  I am trying to install bluez 5.2 libraries on Ubuntu 12.04. while running ./configure, I received error for GLib2.0, I was able to resolve by using sudo apt get-install for GLib2. Now I am receiving the error "configure: error: D-Bus = 1.6 is required". • Hot to fix nautilus desktop on linux mint

  so I'm using Linux Mint 13 with Cinnamon and suddenly there are no icons on the desktop and the right click doesn't work, it's like the desktop doesn't start up at all, but the Cinnamon interface and everything else are working just fine. This happens only when I open the session with Cinnamon, if I start the session on the classic Gnome or MATE the desktop works. I tried to re-install Cinnamon but nothing changed. Then, I noticed that there are some little problems in Nautilus (sometimes menus aren't the color they're supposed to be), so I'm convinced that Nautilus might be the problem, but I don't know how to fix this, I've tried a few thing but I'm starting to fear that I'm only making it worse. • Certificate error with Web Platform Installer

   A friend of mine was having an issue getting the Web Platform Installer to work on his Windows Server 2008 R2 box. He said there was some sort of cert error and asked me to try https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=158722 on my local machine to see if I got the cert error.  I tried it and I did get a cert error on Windows 7 64bit. I happened to notice that that url simply redirects to https://www.microsoft.com/web/webpi/2.0/WebProductList.xml . Out of curiosity I dropped to a command line and tried to run .\WebPlatformInstaller.exe /? to see if there were any command line options. It gave an error that said invalid URI. So we tried running it with the product list url like: "WebPlatformInstaller.exe https://www.microsoft.com/web/webpi/2.0/WebProductList.xml" . This seems to get around the expired cert that is on go.microsoft.com.  Here's a screen shot of the error:

• Error opening .wmv file

  I tried to open a .wmv file in Thunderbird. I was asked to download files in order to have it accessible. At the end of the installation An error occurred - Location not found. error message displayed with just the OK button available. Now when I press the Play button just the error message displays so I am not sure which packages need to be installed/uninstalled. I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 (32-bit) with open-jdk-7. Error was generated when installing: GStreamer ffmpeg video plugin It seemed that it took a while to have the process completing all steps of the download / install before the error message displayed.

• Error when setting Piwik analytics

  I've uploaded the latest version of Piwik unto my web server, which is hosted by go daddy.com, on a linux hosting plan. I'm setting it up (accessing it from my browser as instructed) and I have the "Piwikinstallation" page open on step 3 (database set-up ) of 9. I don't know what to imput in the field "database server"... the default is the number 127.0.0.1 When I leave that input as is, and click "Next" leaving the gives the error: "Error when trying to connect to database server: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2013] Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 111" and changing that input to "localhost" gives me another error: "Error when trying to connect to database server:SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)"

  I'm trying to compile bochs. Here is my configure command: ./configure --enable-fpu --enable-3dnow --enable-x86-64 --enable-a20-pin --enable-cdrom --enable-debugger --enable-debugger-gui --enable-disasm Then I enter the "make" command and it compiles for some time. But then comes an error. /usr/bin/ld: gui/libgui.a(gtk_enh_dbg_osdep.o): undefined reference to symbol 'pthread_create@@GLIBC_2.2.5' //lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0: error adding symbols: DSO missing from command line collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [bochs] Error 1 Can anybody help me with this error? • WHMCS Fatal error: Out of memory while View Invoice PDF

  I can log into WHMCS & can access everything I should be able to access, but if i try to click View PDF Invoice, the following error will occur, Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 67633152) (tried to allocate 76 bytes) in /home/xxxx/public_html/whmcs/includes/classes/class.tcpdf.php on line 8419 I have already set the allocated Memory limit to 256MB, but the error still occurs. At that time of the error, the process memory is exceeding the allocation I set. • Problem installing skype on ubuntu 12.10 : Error in sound packages

  I tried to install Skype on my ubuntu 12.10 via command line $ sudo apt-get install skype I received this error : The following packages have unmet dependencies: libasound2-plugins:i386 : Depends: libasound2:i386 (>= 1.0.25) but it is not going to be installed skype-bin:i386 : Depends: libasound2:i386 (>= 1.0.23) but it is not going to be installed E: Unmet dependencies. • nagios3 Error: Could not read object configuration data!

  I have a brand new install of nagios3 on ubuntu 12.04. After I log in to the web interface and click any link I get the error: Error: Could not read object configuration data! Here are some things you should check in order to resolve this error: Verify configuration options using the -v command-line option to check for errors. Check the Nagios log file for messages relating to startup or status data errors. I ran it with the -v option and it reported no errors: Total Warnings: 0 Total Errors: 0 Things look okay - No serious problems were detected during the pre-flight check The nagios log and apache error log and debug log all have nothing regarding this. Does anyone know how to turn on logging that will give me some kind of useful error? Or if anyone knows how to fix this specific problem without additional logging, I guess that's okay too. Thanks!
