  • appengine log console extremely slow

    - by Joey
    I am using the python app engine and finding that the log console on the local development server is terribly slow. Output to this window seems to show in chunks of about 5-15 lines every second. Is that typical? I find that it's so slow that it hinders my debugging time waiting for log data to appear.

  • ERROR 1005 (HY000): Can't create table 'tmp' (errno: 13)

    - by kobey
    Hi, I'm Running Mysql on ubuntu 9.10, the process of Mysql is running as root, I'm using root account when logging to Mysql, which I gave all privileges, I'm using my own db(not mysql), I can create a table, but when i try to create Temporary table i get this error: ERROR 1005 (HY000): Can't create table 'tmp' (errno: 13) For this query: CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE tmp (id int); I've plenty of space in my hard drive, all permissions are granted(also var/lib/mysql have mysql permissions). Any idea? Thanks, Koby

  • Why isn't my query using any indices when I use a subquery?

    - by sfussenegger
    I have the following tables (removed columns that aren't used for my examples): CREATE TABLE `person` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL, `name` varchar(1024) NOT NULL, `sortname` varchar(1024) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`), KEY `sortname` (`sortname`(255)), KEY `name` (`name`(255)) ); CREATE TABLE `personalias` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL, `person` int(11) NOT NULL, `name` varchar(1024) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`), KEY `person` (`person`), KEY `name` (`name`(255)) ) Currently, I'm using this query which works just fine: select p.* from person p where name = 'John Mayer' or sortname = 'John Mayer'; mysql> explain select p.* from person p where name = 'John Mayer' or sortname = 'John Mayer'; +----+-------------+-------+-------------+---------------+---------------+---------+------+------+----------------------------------------------+ | id | select_type | table | type | possible_keys | key | key_len | ref | rows | Extra | +----+-------------+-------+-------------+---------------+---------------+---------+------+------+----------------------------------------------+ | 1 | SIMPLE | p | index_merge | name,sortname | name,sortname | 767,767 | NULL | 3 | Using sort_union(name,sortname); Using where | +----+-------------+-------+-------------+---------------+---------------+---------+------+------+----------------------------------------------+ 1 row in set (0.00 sec) Now I'd like to extend this query to also consider aliases. First, I've tried using a join: select p.* from person p join personalias a where p.name = 'John Mayer' or p.sortname = 'John Mayer' or a.name = 'John Mayer'; mysql> explain select p.* from person p join personalias a on p.id = a.person where p.name = 'John Mayer' or p.sortname = 'John Mayer' or a.name = 'John Mayer'; +----+-------------+-------+--------+-----------------------+---------+---------+-------------------+-------+-----------------+ | id | select_type | table | type | possible_keys | key | key_len | ref | rows | Extra | +----+-------------+-------+--------+-----------------------+---------+---------+-------------------+-------+-----------------+ | 1 | SIMPLE | a | ALL | ref,name | NULL | NULL | NULL | 87401 | Using temporary | | 1 | SIMPLE | p | eq_ref | PRIMARY,name,sortname | PRIMARY | 4 | musicbrainz.a.ref | 1 | Using where | +----+-------------+-------+--------+-----------------------+---------+---------+-------------------+-------+-----------------+ 2 rows in set (0.00 sec) This looks bad: no index, 87401 rows, using temporary. Using temporary only appears when I use distinct, but as an alias might be the same as the name, I can't really get rid of it. Next, I've tried to replace the join with a subquery: select p.* from person p where p.name = 'John Mayer' or p.sortname = 'John Mayer' or p.id in (select person from personalias a where a.name = 'John Mayer'); mysql> explain select p.* from person p where p.name = 'John Mayer' or p.sortname = 'John Mayer' or p.id in (select id from personalias a where a.name = 'John Mayer'); +----+--------------------+-------+----------------+------------------+--------+---------+------+--------+-------------+ | id | select_type | table | type | possible_keys | key | key_len | ref | rows | Extra | +----+--------------------+-------+----------------+------------------+--------+---------+------+--------+-------------+ | 1 | PRIMARY | p | ALL | name,sortname | NULL | NULL | NULL | 540309 | Using where | | 2 | DEPENDENT SUBQUERY | a | index_subquery | person,name | person | 4 | func | 1 | Using where | +----+--------------------+-------+----------------+------------------+--------+---------+------+--------+-------------+ 2 rows in set (0.00 sec) Again, this looks pretty bad: no index, 540309 rows. Interestingly, both queries (select p.* from person ... or p.id in (4711,12345) and select id from personalias a where a.name = 'John Mayer') work extremely well. Why doesn't MySQL use any indices for both of my queries? What else could I do? Currently, it looks best to fetch person.ids for aliases and add them statically as an in(...) to the second query. There certainly has to be another way to do this with a single query. I'm currently out of ideas though. Could I somehow force MySQL into using another (better) query plan?

  • will a mysql query run slower if one of the tables involved has no index defined??

    - by lock
    there's this already populated database which came from another dev im not sure what went on that dev's mind when he created the tables, but on one of our scripts there is this query involving 4 tables and it runs super slow SELECT a.col_1, a.col_2, a.col_3, a.col_4, a.col_5, a.col_6, a.col_7 FROM a, b, c, d WHERE a.id = b.id AND b.c_id = c.id AND c.id = d.c_id AND a.col_8 = '$col_8' AND d.g_id = '$g_id' AND c.private = '1' NOTE: $col_8 and $g_id are variables from a form its only my theory that it's due to tables b and c not having an index, although im guessing that the dev didnt think that it was necessary since those tables only tell relations between a and d, where b tells that the data in a belongs to a certain user, and c tells that the user belongs to a group in d as you can see, there's not even a join or other extensive query functions used but this query which returns only around 100 rows takes 2 minutes to execute. anyway my question is simply this post's title. will a mysql query run slower if one of the tables involved has no index defined??

  • MySQL Query, limit output display according/only to associated ID!

    - by Jess
    So here's my situation. I have a books table and authors table. An author can have many books... In my authors page view, the user (logged in) can click an author in a tabled row and be directed to a page displaying the author's books (collected like this URI format: viewauthorbooks.php?author_id=23), very straight forward... However, in my query, I need to display the books for the author only, and not all books stored in the books table (as i currently have!) As I am a complete novice, I used the most simple query of: SELECT * FROM tasks_tb :)....this returns the books for me, but returns every single value (book) in the database, and not ones associated with the selected author. And when I click a different author the same books are displayed for them...I think everyone gets what I'm trying to achieve, I just don't know how to perform the query. I'm guessing that I need to start using more advanced query clauses like INNER JOIN etc. Anyone care to help me out :)

  • a reusable query with modifications?

    - by fusion
    i'm using this mysql query alongwith php to search for multiple keywords: $query = "SELECT cQuotes, vAuthor, cArabic, vReference FROM ".$table." WHERE ("; $countFields = count($arrayFields); while ($a < $countFields) { while ($b < $countSearch) { $query = $query."$arrayFields[$a] LIKE '%$arraySearch[$b]%'"; $b++; if ($b < $countSearch) { $query = $query." AND "; } } $b = 0; $a++; if ($a < $countFields) { $query = $query.") OR ("; } } $query = $query.")"; $result = mysql_query($query, $conn) i'd like to reuse this query with a few modifications to it (for instance, the WHERE clause remains the same, while i query the number of rows using COUNT), but it doesn't seem practical to repeat the code again for a few additions. any suggestions?

  • mysql timeout - c/C++

    - by user1262876
    Guys i'm facing a problem with this code, the problem is the timeout by timeout i mean the time it takes the program to tell me if the server is connected or not. If i use my localhost i get the answer fast, but when i connect to outside my localhost it takes 50sc - 1.5 min to response and the program frezz until it done. HOw can i fix the frezzing, or make my own timeout, like if still waiting after 50sc, tell me connection failed and stop? please use codes as help, becouse i would understand it better, thanks for any help i get PS: USING MAC #include "mysql.h" #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> // Other Linker Flags: -lmysqlclient -lm -lz // just going to input the general details and not the port numbers struct connection_details { char *server; char *user; char *password; char *database; }; MYSQL* mysql_connection_setup(struct connection_details mysql_details) { // first of all create a mysql instance and initialize the variables within MYSQL *connection = mysql_init(NULL); // connect to the database with the details attached. if (!mysql_real_connect(connection,mysql_details.server, mysql_details.user, mysql_details.password, mysql_details.database, 0, NULL, 0)) { printf("Conection error : %s\n", mysql_error(connection)); exit(1); } return connection; } MYSQL_RES* mysql_perform_query(MYSQL *connection, char *sql_query) { // send the query to the database if (mysql_query(connection, sql_query)) { printf("MySQL query error : %s\n", mysql_error(connection)); exit(1); } return mysql_use_result(connection); } int main() { MYSQL *conn; // the connection MYSQL_RES *res; // the results MYSQL_ROW row; // the results row (line by line) struct connection_details mysqlD; mysqlD.server = (char*)"Localhost"; // where the mysql database is mysqlD.user = (char*)"root"; // the root user of mysql mysqlD.password = (char*)"123456"; // the password of the root user in mysql mysqlD.database = (char*)"test"; // the databse to pick // connect to the mysql database conn = mysql_connection_setup(mysqlD); // assign the results return to the MYSQL_RES pointer res = mysql_perform_query(conn, (char*) "SELECT * FROM me"); printf("MySQL Tables in mysql database:\n"); while ((row = mysql_fetch_row(res)) !=NULL) printf("%s - %s\n", row[0], row[1], row[2]); // <-- Rows /* clean up the database result set */ mysql_free_result(res); /* clean up the database link */ mysql_close(conn); return 0; }

    I want to execute a SELECT query but I don't how many columns to select. Like: select name, family from persons; How can I know which columns to select? "I am currently designing a site for the execute query by users. So when the user executes this query, I won't know which columns selected. But when I want to show the results and draw a table for the user I should know which columns selected."

  • multiple mysql_real_query() in while loop

    - by Steve
    It seems that when I have one mysql_real_query() function in a continuous while loop, the query will get executed OK. However, if multiple mysql_real_query() are inside the while loop, one right after the other. Depending on the query, sometimes neither the first query nor second query will execute properly. This seems like a threading issue to me. I'm wondering if the mysql c api has a way of dealing with this? Does anyone know how to deal with this? mysql_free_result() doesn't work since I am not even storing the results. //keep polling as long as stop character '-' is not read while(szRxChar != '-') { // Check if a read is outstanding if (HasOverlappedIoCompleted(&ovRead)) { // Issue a serial port read if (!ReadFile(hSerial,&szRxChar,1, &dwBytesRead,&ovRead)) { DWORD dwErr = GetLastError(); if (dwErr!=ERROR_IO_PENDING) return dwErr; } } // Wait 5 seconds for serial input if (!(HasOverlappedIoCompleted(&ovRead))) { WaitForSingleObject(hReadEvent,RESET_TIME); } // Check if serial input has arrived if (GetOverlappedResult(hSerial,&ovRead, &dwBytesRead,FALSE)) { // Wait for the write GetOverlappedResult(hSerial,&ovWrite, &dwBytesWritten,TRUE); //load tagBuffer with byte stream tagBuffer[i] = szRxChar; i++; tagBuffer[i] = 0; //char arrays are \0 terminated //run query with tagBuffer if( strlen(tagBuffer)==PACKET_LENGTH ) { sprintf(query,"insert into scan (rfidnum) values ('"); strcat(query, tagBuffer); strcat(query, "')"); mysql_real_query(&mysql,query,(unsigned int)strlen(query)); i=0; } mysql_real_query(&mysql,"insert into scan (rfidnum) values ('2nd query')",(unsigned int)strlen("insert into scan (rfid) values ('2nd query')")); mysql_free_result(res); } }

  • iptables not allowing mysql connections to aliased ips?

    - by Curtis
    I have a fairly simple iptables firewall on a server that provides MySQL services, but iptables seems to be giving me very inconsistent results. The default policy on the script is as follows: iptables -P INPUT DROP I can then make MySQL public with the following rule: iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT With this rule in place, I can connect to MySQL from any source IP to any destination IP on the server without a problem. However, when I try to restrict access to just three IPs by replacing the above line with the following, I run into trouble (xxx=masked octect): iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 3306 -m state --state NEW -s 208.XXX.XXX.184 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 3306 -m state --state NEW -s 208.XXX.XXX.196 -j ACCEPT iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 3306 -m state --state NEW -s 208.XXX.XXX.251 -j ACCEPT Once the above rules are in place, the following happens: I can connect to the MySQL server from the .184, .196 and .251 hosts just fine as long as am connecting to the MySQL server using it's default IP address or an IP alias in the same subnet as the default IP address. I am unable to connect to MySQL using IP aliases that are assigned to the server from a different subnet than the server's default IP when I'm coming from the .184 or .196 hosts, but .251 works just fine. From the .184 or .196 hosts, a telnet attempt just hangs... # telnet 209.xxx.xxx.22 3306 Trying 209.xxx.xxx.22... If I remove the .251 line (making .196 the last rule added), the .196 host still can not connect to MySQL using IP aliases (so it's not the order of the rules that is causing the inconsistent behavior). I know, this particular test was silly as it shouldn't matter what order these three rules are added in, but I figured someone might ask. If I switch back to the "public" rule, all hosts can connect to the MySQL server using either the default or aliased IPs (in either subnet): iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 3306 -j ACCEPT The server is running in a CentOS 5.4 OpenVZ/Proxmox container (2.6.32-4-pve). And, just in case you prefer to see the problem rules in the context of the iptables script, here it is (xxx=masked octect): # Flush old rules, old custom tables /sbin/iptables --flush /sbin/iptables --delete-chain # Set default policies for all three default chains /sbin/iptables -P INPUT DROP /sbin/iptables -P FORWARD DROP /sbin/iptables -P OUTPUT ACCEPT # Enable free use of loopback interfaces /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT /sbin/iptables -A OUTPUT -o lo -j ACCEPT # All TCP sessions should begin with SYN /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp ! --syn -m state --state NEW -j DROP # Accept inbound TCP packets (Do this *before* adding the 'blocked' chain) /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT # Allow the server's own IP to connect to itself /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -s 208.xxx.xxx.178 -j ACCEPT # Add the 'blocked' chain *after* we've accepted established/related connections # so we remain efficient and only evaluate new/inbound connections /sbin/iptables -N BLOCKED /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -j BLOCKED # Accept inbound ICMP messages /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p ICMP --icmp-type 8 -j ACCEPT /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p ICMP --icmp-type 11 -j ACCEPT # ssh (private) /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 22 -m state --state NEW -s xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -j ACCEPT # ftp (private) /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 21 -m state --state NEW -s xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -j ACCEPT # www (public) /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT # smtp (public) /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 25 -j ACCEPT /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 2525 -j ACCEPT # pop (public) /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 110 -j ACCEPT # mysql (private) /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 3306 -m state --state NEW -s 208.xxx.xxx.184 -j ACCEPT /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 3306 -m state --state NEW -s 208.xxx.xxx.196 -j ACCEPT /sbin/iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 3306 -m state --state NEW -s 208.xxx.xxx.251 -j ACCEPT Any ideas? • MySQL Memory usage

    - by Rob Stevenson-Leggett
    Our MySQL server seems to be using a lot of memory. I've tried looking for slow queries and queries with no index and have halved the peak CPU usage and Apache memory usage but the MySQL memory stays constantly at 2.2GB (~51% of available memory on the server). Here's the graph from Plesk. Running top in the SSH window shows the same figures. Does anyone have any ideas on why the memory usage is constant like this and not peaks and troughs with usage of the app? • Rsyslog is not working properly, it does not log anything

    - by Victor Henriquez
    I'm running a Debian server and a couple of days ago my rsyslog started to behave very weird, the daemon is running but it doesn't seem to do anything. Many people use the system but I'm the only one with (legal) root access. I'm using the default rsyslogd configuration (if you think is relevant I'll attach it, but it's the one that comes with the package). After I rotated all the log files, they have remained empty: # ls -l /var/log/*.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jun 27 00:25 /var/log/alternatives.log -rw-r----- 1 root adm 0 Jun 26 13:03 /var/log/auth.log -rw-r----- 1 root adm 0 Jun 26 13:03 /var/log/daemon.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jun 27 00:25 /var/log/dpkg.log -rw-r----- 1 root adm 0 Jun 26 13:03 /var/log/kern.log -rw-r----- 1 root adm 0 Jun 26 13:03 /var/log/lpr.log -rw-r----- 1 root adm 0 Jun 26 13:03 /var/log/mail.log -rw-r----- 1 root adm 0 Jun 26 13:03 /var/log/user.log Any try to force a log writing does not have any effect: # logger hey # ls -l /var/log/messages -rw-r----- 1 root adm 0 Jun 26 13:03 /var/log/messages Lsof shows that rsyslogd does not have any log files opened: # lsof -p 1855 COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME rsyslogd 1855 root cwd DIR 202,0 4096 2 / rsyslogd 1855 root rtd DIR 202,0 4096 2 / rsyslogd 1855 root txt REG 202,0 342076 21649 /usr/sbin/rsyslogd rsyslogd 1855 root mem REG 202,0 38556 32153 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/i686/cmov/libnss_nis-2.13.so rsyslogd 1855 root mem REG 202,0 79728 32165 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/i686/cmov/libnsl-2.13.so rsyslogd 1855 root mem REG 202,0 26456 32163 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/i686/cmov/libnss_compat-2.13.so rsyslogd 1855 root mem REG 202,0 297500 1061058 /usr/lib/rsyslog/imuxsock.so rsyslogd 1855 root mem REG 202,0 42628 32170 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/i686/cmov/libnss_files-2.13.so rsyslogd 1855 root mem REG 202,0 22784 1061106 /usr/lib/rsyslog/imklog.so rsyslogd 1855 root mem REG 202,0 1401000 32169 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/i686/cmov/libc-2.13.so rsyslogd 1855 root mem REG 202,0 30684 32175 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/i686/cmov/librt-2.13.so rsyslogd 1855 root mem REG 202,0 9844 32157 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/i686/cmov/libdl-2.13.so rsyslogd 1855 root mem REG 202,0 117009 32154 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/i686/cmov/libpthread-2.13.so rsyslogd 1855 root mem REG 202,0 79980 17746 /usr/lib/libz.so.1.2.3.4 rsyslogd 1855 root mem REG 202,0 18836 1061094 /usr/lib/rsyslog/lmnet.so rsyslogd 1855 root mem REG 202,0 117960 31845 /lib/i386-linux-gnu/ld-2.13.so rsyslogd 1855 root 0u unix 0xebe8e800 0t0 640 /dev/log rsyslogd 1855 root 3u FIFO 0,5 0t0 2474 /dev/xconsole rsyslogd 1855 root 4u unix 0xebe8e400 0t0 645 /var/spool/postfix/dev/log rsyslogd 1855 root 5r REG 0,3 0 4026532176 /proc/kmsg I was so frustrated that even reinstall the rsyslog package, but it still refuses to log anything: # apt-get remove --purge rsyslog # apt-get install rsyslog I thought someone had hacked the system, so run rkhunter, chkrootkit, unhide in an attempt to find hide processes / ports and nmap in a remote host to compare with the ports shown by netstat. And I know this doesn't mean anything, but all looks ok. The system also have an iptables firewall that is very restrictive with incoming / outgoing connections. I'm having a problem with a PHP project (using Kohana 3.2 framework) on my Windows 7 64-bit machine connecting to the database. The development database is stored on a Ubuntu Linux server on the local network. Other development machines running OSX and Linux are connecting fine. There are no other Windows development machines to test with. I can access MySQL fine using MySQL Workbench, and other projects (which I believe to be less database heavy) run mostly ok, only occasionally getting timeout messages. I'm constantly getting Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded when functions such as mysql_query() are run in this particular project. Specifically, the Kohana file where the timeout occurs is MODPATH\database\classes\kohana\database\mysql.php [ 186 ]. My local set-up is: Windows 7 Professional 64bit XAMPP 1.7.7 (PHP 5.3.8) The output of uname -a of the Linux server is: Linux peach 2.6.38-11-server #50-Ubuntu SMP Mon Sep 12 21:34:27 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I've tried the following, with no success: Disabling Windows firewall Switching between using a persistant and normal connection In my.cnf, adding skip-name-resolve Increasing wait_timeout Enabling bind-address I've run out of ideas now, and have no idea how to debug an odd issue like this. Has anyone come across this before, or have any idea how I could find the root of the issue, or what might be the problem?

  • Linux Has Become Very Slow Dealing With Large Data

    - by Kohjah Breese
    Last year I bought a computer, for around $1,800, so it is relatively high-end. When I first got it I was particularly pleased at how quick it dealt with large MySQL queries, imports and exports. But somewhere along the way something has gone wrong and I am not sure how to diagnose the problem. Any job that involves processing large amounts of data, e.g. gzipping file c. 1GB+, UPDATEs on large MySQL tables etc. have become very slow. I just performed an intensive alter statement on a 240,000,000 row table on a remote server, which is lower spec. This took about 10 minutes. However, performing the same query on a 167,000,000 row table on my computer went fine until it hit 860MB. Now it is only writing about 1MB every 15 seconds. Does anyone have any advice as to debugging what the issue is? I am using LinuxMint (based on Ubuntu 12.04.) The home partition is encrypted, which really slows down gzip. I have noticed the swap is barely used, but am not sure if that is because there is more than enough RAM. The filesystem is ext4. The MySQL server is on a separate hard drive, but it was fine when I first installed it. Other than the above issues, there are no other problems with it. I am going to install a fresh Ubuntu on the 4th hard drive to see if that is any different.

  • How do I get PHP variables from this MySQL query?

    - by CT
    I am working on an Asset Database problem using PHP / MySQL. In this script I would like to search my assets by an asset id and have it return all related fields. First I query the database asset table and find the asset's type. Then depending on the type I run 1 of 3 queries. <?php //make database connect mysql_connect("localhost", "asset_db", "asset_db") or die(mysql_error()); mysql_select_db("asset_db") or die(mysql_error()); //get type of asset $type = mysql_query(" SELECT asset.type From asset WHERE asset.id = 93120 ") or die(mysql_error()); switch ($type){ case "Server": //do some stuff that involves a mysql query mysql_query(" SELECT asset.id ,asset.company ,asset.location ,asset.purchase_date ,asset.purchase_order ,asset.value ,asset.type ,asset.notes ,server.manufacturer ,server.model ,server.serial_number ,server.esc ,server.user ,server.prev_user ,server.warranty FROM asset LEFT JOIN server ON server.id = asset.id WHERE asset.id = 93120 "); break; case "Laptop": //do some stuff that involves a mysql query mysql_query(" SELECT asset.id ,asset.company ,asset.location ,asset.purchase_date ,asset.purchase_order ,asset.value ,asset.type ,asset.notes ,laptop.manufacturer ,laptop.model ,laptop.serial_number ,laptop.esc ,laptop.user ,laptop.prev_user ,laptop.warranty FROM asset LEFT JOIN laptop ON laptop.id = asset.id WHERE asset.id = 93120 "); break; case "Desktop": //do some stuff that involves a mysql query mysql_query(" SELECT asset.id ,asset.company ,asset.location ,asset.purchase_date ,asset.purchase_order ,asset.value ,asset.type ,asset.notes ,desktop.manufacturer ,desktop.model ,desktop.serial_number ,desktop.esc ,desktop.user ,desktop.prev_user ,desktop.warranty FROM asset LEFT JOIN desktop ON desktop.id = asset.id WHERE asset.id = 93120 "); break; } ?> So far I am able to get asset.type into $type. How would I go about getting the rest of the variables (laptop.model to $model, asset.notes to $notes and so on)? Thank you.

  • What's the best way to get a bunch of rows from MySQL if you have an array of integer primary keys?

    - by Evan P.
    I have a MySQL table with an auto-incremented integer primary key. I want to get a bunch of rows from the table based on an array of integers I have in memory in my program. The array ranges from a handful to about 1000 items. What's the most efficient query syntax to get the rows? I can think of a few: "SELECT * FROM thetable WHERE id IN (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)" (this is what I do now) "SELECT * FROM thetable where id = 1 OR id = 2 OR id = 3" Multiple queries of the form "SELECT * FROM thetable WHERE id = 1". Probably the most friendly to the query cache, but expensive due to having lots of query parsing. A union, like "SELECT * FROM thetable WHERE id = 1 UNION SELECT * FROM thetable WHERE id = 2 ..." I'm not sure if MySQL caches the results of each query; it's also the most verbose format. I think using the NoSQL interface in MySQL 5.6+ would be the most efficient way to do this, but I'm not yet up to MySQL 5.6.

  • why use ssh tunneling for mysql server?

    - by ajsie
    i've got ubuntu server acting as my lamp server for my php websites. mysql server is installed and opened for the localhost port. i have read about how to tunnel through ssh to my mysql server. but i havent understood why this is better than opening the mysql server directly for the internet port. cause in either way, a hacker could brute force the port for passwords. either mysql port (3306) if opened for the public or ssh (22) if using tunneling. so why is it better to use ssh tunneling for mysql (and many other server applications)?

  • MySQL Federated Tables Escaped Table Names

    - by Gordon
    I am trying to use MySQL federated tables. The problem is that the documentation specified at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/federated-use.html says that a federated table should be created using the following format for the CONNECTION parameter: scheme://user_name[:password]@host_name[:port_num]/db_name/tbl_name E.G. CONNECTION='mysql://username:password@hostname:port/database/tablename' CONNECTION='mysql://username@hostname/database/tablename' CONNECTION='mysql://username:password@hostname/database/tablename' The problem is that the table I am trying to connect to has non-standard characters in it and I cannot find the proper way to scape them in the connections tring. For example, a table named `Table (one)` . Which has the space and the parenthesis, requiring backticks surrounding it inside any SQL code. Anyone know the proper way to do this?

  • How to change MySQL data directory?

    - by Jonathan Frank
    I want to place my databases in another directory, so I can store them in an ESB (elastic block storage, just a fancy name for a virtualized harddisk) together with my web-apps and other persistent data. I have tried to walk through a tutorial at http://crashmag.net/change-the-default-mysql-data-directory-with-selinux-enabled. Everything seems fine until I type this command: # semanage fcontext -a -t mysqld_db_t "/srv/mysql(/.*)?" Then the command fails and tells me that mysqld_db_t is an invalid SELinux context even if the default MySQL data directory is labelled with this context. I am running Fedora 15 on Virtualbox (behaves like an ordinary x86-compatible box) and Amazon EC2 (based on Xen) so the tutorial should be compatible. It is also worth to mention that turning off SELinux globally or just for the MySQL process is not an option, because such a solution will decrease the security of the system if a hacker gains access to the system via the MySQL server. I have never seen this problem before I changed to the Redhat/Fedora architecture, so it could be a distribution specific issue. Any help is highly appreciated
