  • ServerA can't access ServerB through UNC path. How do I troubleshoot?

    - by cparker4486
All my servers are in the same domain on the same network. ServerA cannot access ServerB through UNC path. However DNS resolves correctly for ServerB from ServerA. For example "ping ServerB" works as expected. ServerB can reach ServerA through UNC path without any problem. Likewise all other servers and clients can reach ServerB through UNC path without any problem. The software firewall on ServerB is not turned on and there are no hardware firewalls getting in the way. This makes no sense and I don't know how to troubleshoot it. Nothing shows up in the event logs of ServerA and ServerB has one event (repeatedly): Event ID: 3019, Source: MrxSmb. ServerA is Server 2008 R2. ServerB is Server 2003 R2. I have other 2008 R2 servers that connect without any problem.

  • Can Remote Desktop connect only 2 monitors when the client has 3 or 4 monitors connected?

    - by user12931
I have three monitors (all 1920x1200) connected to my desktop and I would like to RDP into another computer (running Windows Server 2003) and use only two of my three monitors. The main monitor is used for notification from the LAN like email, build status, etc. I've tried modifying the .rdp file to have a higher resolution (i.e. 3840x1200 ) which sort of works but the bits per pixel goes down to 8 and you have to manually resize the window which means that you need to change it to around 3840x1150. If I supply /span to the commandline it gives me a bit more than 3840 spanned across the three monitors (is there perhaps a limitation of say 4096 for the maximum resolution?). WORKAROUND: Connect twice to the same computer. Here's an interesting post from Microsoft: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/rds/archive/2009/08/21/remote-desktop-connection-7-for-windows-7-windows-xp-windows-vista.aspx

  • XP Clients can't copy to networkshare

    - by chewbacca76
i have a windows 2003 domain where i have strange problem. One of our file shares is on a 2003r2 domain controller, xp clients trying to copy files on the share are always getting the error error copying file or folder filename could not be copied. path too long while windows 7 clients work fine. Nothing unusal is found in the eventlog on both the server and the client. It doesn't matter if i access the share by fqdn or ip, the path is including filename shorter than 20 characters i.e. \path\share\file.txt Copying files to other servers is fine. Reading from the shares is ok too. Happened from one day to the other, one windows update that was installed this day (kb2736233) was removed but nothing changed. thanks for any tips

  • Correct usage of Windows Server on network?

    - by Hobart Bosworth
I have two routers, one with dhcp turned on and the other with it off. this is a functioning home network. Now, I am trying to integrate into it a windows server. Should the windows server be doing the dhcp and dns work? And if so, what will this mean for the existing network? Will I need to reconfigure this? I am currently installing server 2003 onto my server machine. It is connected up to the network on the main router with dhcp. Any words of advice?

  • Shared printer can't be added

    - by Sandokan
We have a small training network with server 2003, and XP clients and users in a AD domain. A printer is connected to a client with USB. We are trying to share the printer to all the users but it's not working. We come so far as the users can see the printer when they search for it. But when they try to add it, there appears a pop up window for user name and password. No matter what user name we try it doesn't work. We have checked the shared printer's security settings and they are all in order. Everyone has printer rights. But even with full rights it doesn't work. The only ones it works for are Domain Admins. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Is it possible to extend the ad schema in a Win2003 DC Server (NOT R2) to support DFSR?

    - by JohannesH
we're in the process of installing a brand new Windows Server 2008 Web cluster and we would like to synchronize some files between the servers. The problem is that the DC in the domain is an old Windows Server 2003 Standard (NOT R2) which apparently doesn't contain some extension to the AD schema. Is it possible to upgrade the schema without upgrading the DC servers to R2? When I try to create a Replication Group on the 2008 Server I get the following message: --------------------------- Error --------------------------- srv.XXXXXX.XX: The Active Directory Domain Services schema on domain controller activedc07.srv.XXXXXX.XX cannot be read. This error might be caused by a schema that has not been extended, or was extended improperly. See Help and Support Center for information about extending the Active Directory Domain Services schema. Schema version 30 is not supported. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------

  • trouble accessing mail server from outside domain

    - by cinqoTimo
Our organization just moved our Website/Domain to a hosted VPS. We elected, for the time being, to keep our email (Exchange) running at our office. On our new VPS, we simply add a DNS record to redirect our mail to our on-site exchange server. This worked out well, as mail is coming and going with no problems. Recently, we ran across an issue when setting up outlook from outside of our office (Not on same network as exchange server). When configuring mail server address, it keeps prompting for credentials. Anyone got any ideas on why this is happening? Is our VPS not allowing Outlook to find our exchange server? If so, how can we bypass it?

  • Citrix has issues resolving network shares

    - by George
We are having this weird issue with our Citrix (version 4.5) server (sitting on Windows 2003 r2), where a couple users have issues resolving single shared network drive. We use a logon script to map all shared drives. The weird part is that of 3 shared drives, users can access 2, but the 3rd one goes to the old server (even though the logon script points to the new server). And that issues is limited to a few users. I had them log off and re-loggin to no success. It happens just in Citrix. The file server, that is being accessed, is Windows 2008 R2. Like I said we use a logon script to map the network drive. I understand I might be a little confusing, I will gladly reword the post.

  • My email server emails are being refused by some servers

    - by Havenard
I have a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 installed in my office. It was configured with all MX-records and SMTP relaying recomendations required to gain trust and not have my server blacklisted. It is also aparently not blacklisted in any email server blacklist I can find online, and in overall it works. I can send emails to Gmail, Hotmail, and most other email servers. Howover, some few email servers insist in not receiving my e-mails for some random reason I couldn't so far understand. There is no error, they simply drop it. Is there something I can do to get this mystery solved?

  • Mount drive with two drive letters instead of one.

    - by grub
Hi everyone a co-worker of mine absolutely insists that it's possible to mount a drive in windows server 2003 with two letters instead of one. He's not talking about mounting a drive into an empty ntfs - folder. example: use ab:\ instead of a:. I'm pretty sure that's not possible. I'm working with over 300 windows servers and never noticed that kind of feature. I also cant find any knowledge base or technet article which describes that kind of feature. Please tell me if it's possible or not. If it's possible please refer to the corresponding knowledge base or technet articles from microsoft. Thank you very much.

  • How do I change the .NET Framework version of a virtual directory without the ASP.NET tab?

    - by Brandon
I have a website running v2.0 but I want the virtual directory running under it to use v4.0. I've already set the virtual directory as an application and gave it it's own application pool. The server is running Windows Server 2003 SP2 (64-bit). However it has the Enable32BitAppOnWin64 flag enabled which means the ASP.NET tabs on the properties dialog of the websites/virtual directories are missing. .NET 4.0 is installed, aspnet_regiis -lv lists the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of .NET 2.0 and .NET 4.0 and the Web Server Extensions are enabled. I can't disable the Enable32BitAppOnWin64 flag to get the ASP.NET tab back, so is there a way to do this from the command line without potentially breaking something? I ran aspnet_regiis -lk to find the paths so I could try aspnet_regiis -sn, but it only returns one record W3SVC/ 2.0.50727.0 (There are 3 separate websites and a virtual directory running on the server though) How can I change the framework version of the virtual directory without the ASP.NET tab?

  • Block a Server from reaching a machine

    - by user
I have a Windows 2003 server that I want to block from accessing a specific IP address. I want to control this from the Server. because I control the machine. The traffic is http traffic (webservice call). It uses a non-standard port, so IP address+ Port combination would also work. Background: I have a development enviornment that for some reason is ignoring host file enteries under some circumstances. These host files point the enviornment at services in another Dev enviornment. Wne th host files are ignored, dev is talking to production. This is not my question, rather the motivation for this inquiry. I want is a failsafe to ensure dev will error instead of happily engaging in transactions with production. I control the dev server, I do not control the firewalls or the target production machine.

  • Exchange 2010: Import a PST when Local Move Request fails

    - by gravyface
So the trail of tears continues with my SBS 2003 to 2011 migration: all the mailboxes have moved mailbox store from OLDSERVER to NEWSERVER, with the Local Move Requests completing successfully, except for one. I've logged into their machine and have exported their mailbox as a PST. I'm about to import it, but it seems to me that because the mailbox is still on OLDSERVER, even with a new Outlook profile pointing to NEWSERVER in Outlook, it'll push the mail into the current mailbox store on the old server. Please tell me I don't have to blow away her existing mailbox, logon, etc. on the old SBSERVER: is there a way to change the state from "Legacy" to "User Mailbox" without actually moving the mailbox store? Create a new mailbox for her user in NEWSERVER?

  • Can't delete profile

    - by generic_noob
Hi All, I have a client machine (XP SP3) which used to be connected to a windows 2003 domain, but the server has since gone down due to a hard drive failure, however the profiles still remain in 'documents and settings'. I have a local admin account on the same machine (in the administrator's group), except when i try to remove the profiles manually from System Properties - Advanced - User Profiles - Settings, the delete button is disabled. Also, Windows prevents me from deleting or renaming the user's profile folder as well, due to a lock with ntuser.dat Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, Cheers!

  • [CLOSED] IIS 6 is no longer installed after computer restart.

    - by jarrettcoggin
[CLOSED] I was doing some maintenance on a build server at work and I changed some various settings (registry settings for custom applications, user permissions, etc.), then I restarted the machine. When the machine came back up, I couldn't access a website that is hosted on this machine, so I went digging around. It seems as if IIS6 was somehow uninstalled, which I know I didn't do. My question is: What would cause this? I've tried to reinstall it, uninstall it, reinstall it again, and nothing has changed. I still have a blank IIS Manager application (inetmgr), and no way to access these websites. BTW, the computer is running Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 Service Pack 2.

  • Activate COM object using website doesn't work in Windows 2003 server

    - by Tarun
I have been trying really hard to activate and launch a COM object using an ASP.NET web application. The aspx website has a code-behind file that has a reference to this COM object (which is an actual application - a CAD software). When required, the VB code creates (or launches) the application. The complete set-up works in a Win-XP (32-bit) environment both under debugging using visual studio and when the website is accessed by an outside user (through IIS server in XP). But the same application doesn't get activated when it is hosted onto the Win-2003 (32-bit) IIS server. I get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error. The way I have setup in Win-XP was to grant ASP user and Internet guest user permissions to the COM object in the DCOM Config and since the windows firewall is enabled, I add the exe file (associated with the COM object) to the exception list. For the case of Win-2003 server, I add the Network Service permission to the COM object. But the setup doesn't seem to work at all. I am not sure what I am missing and how to get the application to launch. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • MSVC 2003 doesn't see any definitions from a nested include file

    - by ezpresso
I have a piece of code with COM class declaration as follows: #include "PathTypes.h" MIDL_INTERFACE("552C7555-0555-4444-BA86-56CF39AAFFFF") IPathCalc : public IUnknown { virtual HRESULT STDMETHODCALLTYPE GetLocation( /* [retval][out] */ GeoLocation* pLoc) = 0; virtual HRESULT STDMETHODCALLTYPE SetLocation( /* [in] */ GeoLocation* pLoc) = 0; ... }; Below is the contents of PathTypes.h file: #if !defined(PATHCALC_TYPES_INCLUDED) #define PATHCALC_TYPES_INCLUDED #include "libastro/AstronomyStructs.h" #endif And the libastro/AstronomyStructs.h from an external cross-platform library: #ifndef _ASTRONOMY_STRUCTS_INCLUDED #define _ASTRONOMY_STRUCTS_INCLUDED typedef struct { double lattitude; double longitude; } GeoLocation; ... #endif /* _ASTRONOMY_STRUCTS_INCLUDED */ When I'm trying to build this code with g++ everything goes well. That's not the case with MSVC 2003 which returns error C2061: syntax error : identifier 'GeoLocation'. Seems like MSVC doesn't "see" the definitions from the libastro/AstronomyStructs.h file. When I replace #include "PathTypes.h" with #include "libastro/AstronomyStructs.h" the code compiles without errors. How to make MSVC 2003 to actually "see" the definitions from the nested include files?

  • MD5CryptoServiceProvider ComputeHash Issues between VS 2003 and VS 2008

    - by owensoroke
I have a database application that generates a MD5 hash and compares the hash value to a value in our DB (SQL 2K). The original application was written in Visual Studio 2003 and a deployed version has been working for years. Recently, some new machines on the .NET framework 3.5 have been having unrelated issues with our runtime. This has forced us to port our code path from Visual Studio 2003 to Visual Studio 2008. Since that time the hash produced by the code is different than the values in the database. The original call to the function posted in code is: RemoveInvalidPasswordCharactersFromHashedPassword(Text_Scrub(GenerateMD5Hash(strPSW))) I am looking for expert guidance as to whether or not the MD5 methods have changed since VS 2K3 (causing this point of failure), or where other possible problems may be originating from. I realize this may not be the best method to hash, but utimately any changes to the MD5 code would force us to change some 300 values in our DB table and would cost us a lot of time. In addition, I am trying to avoid having to redeploy all of the functioning versions of this application. I am more than happy to post other code including the RemoveInvalidPasswordCharactersFromHashedPassword function, or our Text_Scrub if it is necessary to recieve appropriate feedback. Thank you in advance for your input. Public Function GenerateMD5Hash(ByVal strInput As String) As String Dim md5Provider As MD5 ' generate bytes for the input string Dim inputData() As Byte = ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes(strInput) ' compute MD5 hash md5Provider = New MD5CryptoServiceProvider Dim hashResult() As Byte = md5Provider.ComputeHash(inputData) Return ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetString(hashResult) End Function

  • Add Your Gmail Account to Outlook 2010 Using IMAP

    - by Mysticgeek
If you’re upgrading from Outlook 2003 to 2010, you might want to use IMAP with your Gmail account to synchronize mail across multiple machines. Using our guide, you will be able to start using it in no time. Enable IMAP in Gmail First log into your Gmail account and open the Settings panel. Click on the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab and verify IMAP is enabled and save changes. Next open Outlook 2010, click on the File tab to access the Backstage view. Click on Account Settings and Add and remove accounts or change existing connection settings. In the Account Settings window click on the New button. Enter in your name, email address, and password twice then click Next. Outlook will configure the email server settings, the amount of time it takes will vary. Provided everything goes correctly, the configuration will be successful and you can begin using your account. Manually Configure IMAP Settings If the above instructions don’t work, then we’ll need to manually configure the settings. Again, go into Auto Account Setup and select Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click Next.   Select Internet E-mail – Connect to POP or IMAP server to send and receive e-mail messages. Now we need to manually enter in our settings similar to the following. Under the Server Information section verify the following. Account Type: IMAP Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com Note: If you have a Google Apps account make sure to put the full email address ([email protected]) in the Your Name and User Name fields. Note: If you live outside of the US you might need to use imap.googlemail.com and smtp.googlemail.com Next, we need to click on the More Settings button… In the Internet E-mail Settings screen that pops up, click on the Outgoing Server tab, and check the box next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication. Also select the radio button next to Use same settings as my incoming mail server. In the same window click on the Advanced tab and verify the following. Incoming server: 993 Incoming server encrypted connection: SSL Outgoing server encrypted connection TLS Outgoing server: 587 Note: You will need to change the Outgoing server encrypted connection first, otherwise it will default back to port 25. Also, if TLS doesn’t work, we were able to successfully use Auto. Click OK when finished. Now we want to test the settings, before continuing on…it’s just easier that way incase something was entered incorrectly. To make sure the settings are tested, check the box Test Account Settings by clicking the Next button. If you’ve entered everything in correctly, both tasks will be completed successfully and you can close out of the window. and begin using your account via Outlook 2010. You’ll get a final congratulations message you can close out of… And begin using your account via Outlook 2010. Conclusion Using IMAP allows you to synchronize email across multiple machines and devices. The IMAP feature in Gmail is free to use, and this should get you started using it with Outlook 2010. If you’re still using 2007 or just upgraded to it, check out our guide on how to use Gmail IMAP in Outlook 2007. • Office 2010 silent activation after unattended installation

    - by MarkM
I've created an unattended install of Office 2010 using the OCT. We are using a MAK rather than KMS (not my decision). Is there a way to activate Office 2010 after the install? Even though the key is set during the install, it does not activate. I don't want the users to be prompted to activate since this is going to be in a lab environment.
