  • What ways can I put images in a grid-like format?

    I have about 12-15 images that I want to align together in a grid, with text under each image. I thought about using a table, but I hear that tables aren't the best way to go these days. I tried a few other things, but nothing seemed to work the way I wanted it to. An example of what I want it to look like would be something like this: [-----Image-----] [-----Image-----] [-----Image-----] [-----Image-----] --- Row 1 (--Description-) (-Description-) (-Description-) (-Description-) [-----Image-----] [-----Image-----] [-----Image-----] [-----Image-----] --- Row 2 (--Description-) (-Description-) (-Description-) (-Description-) and so on... What are some other methods, besides tables, that I should look into using? Any suggestions or references would be helpful.

    Hi, I need to deploy a Windows Forms application using ClickOnce deployment. (VS2008, .NET 3.5) And I need to provide a configuration file for this app that any user can modify. For this reason, I am using Application Settings instead of standard appSetttings in app.config so I can separate the the user config from app config. see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms228995(VS.80).aspx Creating a Settings.settings file using VS generated a class with hard-coded default values like this: [global::System.Configuration.DefaultSettingValueAttribute("blahblah")] public string MyProperty ... WTF? I want to read the default values from the app.config! So I created my own class deriving from ApplicationSettingsBase but I cannot get this to read values from the app.config. Any ideas?

Without deciding the value of this request, I'd like to get my Fedora laptop to answer the question easily. rpm -qa Gives me a list of packages, but no license data. My next step is to take that output and write a script to query each package's license. Anyone got an easier idea?

  • Wordpress auto excerpts from post content?

    I'm trying to create an auto generated post excerpt from the current page's post content using a function in my theme's header file. The post excerpt will be used as the page's meta description. Can someone give me an idea of how you might go about this once you've got the post content into a string variable? The somewhat tricky part is that, in order to predict a viable stopping point for the post excerpt, I'd like to specify that the cutoff point be the end of the first paragraph of text. And for that reason, it does not make sense to load the entire post content into the string I'm using. Can I grab the first paragraph without having to load the entire post content string? And I'm not certain how to test for that in php. Would regex be the only way?

  • HttpURLConnection does not read the whole respnse

    I use HttpURLConnection to do HTTP POST but I dont always get back the full response. I wanted to debug the problem, but when I step through each line it worked. I thought it must be a timing issue so I added Thread.sleep and it really made my code work, but this is only a temporary workaround. I wonder why is this happening and how to solve.   • Recognize Dates In A String

    I want a class something like this: public interface IDateRecognizer { DateTime[] Recognize(string s); } The dates might exist anywhere in the string and might be any format. For now, I could limit to U.S. culture formats. The dates would not be delimited in any way. They might have arbitrary amounts of whitespace between parts of the date. The ideas I have are: ANTLR Regex Hand rolled I have never used ANTLR, so I would be learning from scratch. I wonder if there are libraries or code samples out there that do something similar that could jump start me. Is ANTLR too heavy for such a narrow use? I have used Regex a lot before, but I hate it for all the reasons that most people hate it. I could certainly hand roll it but I'd rather not re-solve a solved problem. Suggestions? UPDATE: Here is an example. Given this input: This is a date 11/3/63. Here is another one: November 03, 1963; and another one Nov 03, 63 and some more (11/03/1963). The dates could be in any U.S. format. They might have dashes like 11-2-1963 or weird extra whitespace inside like this: Nov   3,   1963, and even maybe the comma is missing like [Nov 3 63] but that's an edge case. The output should be an array of seven DateTimes. Each date would be the same: 11/03/1963 00:00:00.

    Hi, I have a datagrid with customer data such as ID, name, email, phone etc. When I select a row (with a button or selectionchanged) I want to store that row's columns in variables like dim email as string dim name as string email = dgCustomers.theselectedrow.theselectedcell name = dgCustomers.theselectedrow.theselectedcell If I have a datatable with only one row I know I can get column data with: dim email as string = CustomerDataTableInstance.rows(0).Item("Email") I don't know how to get the selected row number though when I have several rows and the user clicks one/uses the keyboard. The datagrid is bound to a datatable, not a class with object collections. Any help is appreciated!

    I'm using the Post/Redirect/Get pattern on a form of mine. I've never used this approach before and I'm trying to figure something out: Normally, I always just displayed the posted form again when there were validation errors and displayed POST values in the form (sticky form). However with the PRG pattern, the form is displayed after a redirect, so there aren't any POST values. So my question is, how can I implement the PRG pattern and still have sticky forms?

  • MySQL: Creating table with FK error (errno 150)

    I've tried searching on this error and nothing I've found helps me, so I apologize in advance if this is a duplicate and I'm just too dumb to find it. I've created a model with MySQL Workbench and am now attempting to install it to a mysql server. Using File Export Forward Engineer SQL CREATE Script... it outputs a nice big file for me, with all the settings I ask for. I switch over to MySQL GUI Tools (the Query Browser specifically) and load up this script (note that I'm going form one official MySQL tool to another). However, when I try to actually execute this file, I get the same error over and over SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 1005 Can't create table './srs_dev/location.frm' (errno: 150) "OK", I say to myself, something is wrong with the location table. So I check out the definition in the output file. So I start to Google this issue and find all kinds of accounts that talk about an error with InnoDB style tables that fail with foreign keys, and the fix is to add "SET FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=0;" to the SQL script. Well, as you can see, that's already part of the file that MySQL Workbench spat out. So, my question is then, why is this not working when I'm doing what I think I'm supposed to be doing?     I'm just trying to compile the linux-based FCEUX (NES emulator) on my mac, OS X 10.5 Leopard.     In .NET C#4.0 with the .NET Chart control I have this code to generate a pie chart: chart.Series[0].ChartType = SeriesChartType.Pie; foreach (Order order in orderCollection) { // If I set point.LegendText = order.UserName, .Group will erase it chart.Series[0].Points.AddXY(order.UserName, order.Total); } chart.DataManipulator.Sort(PointSortOrder.Ascending, "X", "Series1"); chart.DataManipulator.Group("SUM", 1, IntervalType.Months, "Series1"); This works well, it generates a pie chart with the top 10 users showing their total order sum. I would like to set the DataPoints' legendtext to the order.UserName property. The problem is, DataManipulator.Group overwrites the series DataPoints. So if I set the legendtext in the foreach loop, they will be erased after the Group call. And after the Group call, I don't see a way to retrieve the correct UserName for a DataPoint to set the legendtext. What is the best approach for this situation?

  • How can I limit the cache used by copying so there is still memory available for other cache?

    Basic situation: I am copying some NTFS disks in openSuSE. Each one is 2TB. When I do this, the system runs slow. My guesses: I believe it is likely due to caching. Linux decides to discard useful cache (eg. kde4 bloat, virtual machine disks, LibreOffice binaries, Thunderbird binaries, etc.) and instead fill all available memory (24 GB total) with stuff from the copying disks, which will be read only once, then written and never used again. So then any time I use these apps (or kde4), the disk needs to be read again, and reading the bloat off the disk again makes things freeze/hiccup. Due to the cache being gone and the fact that these bloated applications need lots of cache, this makes the system horribly slow. Since it is USB,the disk and disk controller are not the bottleneck, so using ionice does not make it faster. I believe it is the cache rather than just the motherboard going too slow, because if I stop everything copying, it still runs choppy for a while until it recaches everything. And if I restart the copying, it takes a minute before it is choppy again. But also, I can limit it to around 40 MB/s, and it runs faster again (not because it has the right things cached, but because the motherboard busses have lots of extra bandwidth for the system disks). I can fully accept a performance loss from my motherboard's IO capability being completely consumed (which is 100% used, meaning 0% wasted power which makes me happy), but I can't accept that this caching mechanism performs so terribly in this specific use case. # free total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 24731556 24531876 199680 0 8834056 12998916 -/+ buffers/cache: 2698904 22032652 Swap: 4194300 24764 4169536 I also tried the same thing on Ubuntu, which causes a total system hang instead. ;) And to clarify, I am not asking how to leave memory free for the "system", but for "cache". I know that cache memory is automatically given back to the system when needed, but my problem is that it is not reserved for caching of specific things. Question: Is there some way to tell these copy operations to limit memory usage so some important things remain cached, and therefore any slowdowns are a result of normal disk usage and not rereading the same commonly used files? For example, is there a setting of max memory per process/user/file system allowed to be used as cache/buffers?

  • ASP.Net MVC ActionLink's and Shared Hosting Aliased Domains

    So, I've read this and I've got a similar issue: I have a shared hosting account (with GoDaddy, though that's not exactly relevant, I believe) and I've got an MVC (RC1) site deployed to a sub-folder which where I have another domain name mapped (or aliased). The sub-folder is also setup as an application root as well. The site works without issue, the problem is that I don't like the links that are being generated using Html.ActionLink and Ajax.ActionLink. It's inserting the sub folder name as part of the URL as described in this other question. Thing is, the site works fine, but I'd like to make the links generated relative to the domain name. To use an example: http://my.abc.com "primary" domain; maps to \ on file system http://my.xyz.com setup to map to \_xyz.com folder on file system My generated links on xyz.com look like this: Intended Generated -------- --------- http://my.xyz.com/Ctrller/Action/52 http://my.xyz.com/_xyz.com/Ctrller/Action/52 and, FWIW, the site works. So, the question: Is there something I can do to get rid of that folder name in the links being generated? I have a couple of brute force ideas, but they aren't too elegant.

  • How do I open a web browser from a .NET Program? Process.Start() isn't working?

    I have a URL and I want to launch it in the default browser. I've tried two methods: Process.Start("http://stackoverflow.com"); ... and the one detailed in this other question using ShellExecute. In both cases I get the error: Windows cannot find 'http://stackoverflow.com'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. It shouldn't be trying to open it as a file though... from what I understand, it should recognize it as a URL and open it in the default browser. What am I missing? By the way: OS = Vista, and .NET = 3.5 EDIT: According to this MS KB article, since Process.Start sets the UseShellExecute by default, it should launch the default browser.

I even tried using the following code instead of line#45 : $(document).one('cbox_closed', function(){ setTimeout(function(){ $.fn.colorbox({href:"http://www.facebook.com", width:"65%",height:"80%", iframe:true});},2); }); Now all I see is a blank overlay. Any suggestion guys?

    I googled and searched a lot, but I got no luck. I have a WindowsFormsApplication.exe and ConsoleApplication.exe. I want both of them to access to the same IsolatedStorage, is it possible? I tried using this in ConsoleApplication.exe: IsolatedStorageFile isoStore = IsolatedStorageFile.GetMachineStoreForApplication(); but I got: IsolatedStorageException: Unable to determine application identity of the caller.   • Forcing a checkbox bound to a DataSource to update when it has not been viewed yet.

    Here is a test framework to show what I am doing: create a new project add a tabbed control on tab 1 put a button on tab 2 put a check box paste this code for its code (use default names for controls) public partial class Form1 : Form { private List<bool> boolList = new List<bool>(); BindingSource bs = new BindingSource(); public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); boolList.Add(false); bs.DataSource = boolList; checkBox1.DataBindings.Add("Checked", bs, ""); this.button1.Click += new System.EventHandler(this.button1_Click); this.checkBox1.CheckedChanged += new System.EventHandler(this.checkBox1_CheckedChanged); } bool updating = false; private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { updating = true; boolList[0] = true; bs.ResetBindings(false); Application.DoEvents(); updating = false; } private void checkBox1_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!updating) MessageBox.Show("CheckChanged fired outside of updating"); } } The issue is if you run the program and look at tab 2 then press the button on tab 1 the program works as expected, however if you press the button on tab 1 then look at tab 2 the event for the checkbox will not fire untill you look at tab 2. The reason for this is the controll on tab 2 is not in the "created" state, so its binding to change the checkbox from unchecked to checked does not happen until after the control has been "Created". checkbox1.CreateControl() does not do anything because according to MSDN CreateControl does not create a control handle if the control's Visible property is false. You can either call the CreateHandle method or access the Handle property to create the control's handle regardless of the control's visibility, but in this case, no window handles are created for the control's children. I tried getting the value of Handle(there is no public CreateHandle() for CheckBox) but still the same result. Any suggestions other than have the program quickly flash all of my tabs that have data-bound check boxes when it first loads? EDIT-- per Jaxidian's suggestion I created a new class public class newcheckbox : CheckBox { public new void CreateHandle() { base.CreateHandle(); } } I call CreateHandle() right after updating = true same results as before.
