  • How to display specific data from a file

    - by user1067332
    My program is supposed to ask the user for firstname, lastname, and phone number till the users stops. Then when to display it asks for the first name and does a search in the text file to find all info with the same first name and display lastname and phones of the matches. import java.util.*; import java.io.*; import java.util.Scanner; public class WritePhoneList { public static void main(String[] args)throws IOException { BufferedWriter output = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter(new File( "PhoneFile.txt"), true)); String name, lname, age; int pos,choice; try { do { Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.print("Enter First name, last name, and phone number "); name = input.nextLine(); output.write(name); output.newLine(); System.out.print("Would you like to add another? yes(1)/no(2)"); choice = input.nextInt(); }while(choice == 1); output.close(); } catch(Exception e) { System.out.println("Message: " + e); } } } Here is the display code, when i search for a name, it finds a match but displays the last name and phone number of the same name 3 times, I want it to display all of the possible matches with the first name. import java.util.*; import java.io.*; import java.util.Scanner; public class DisplaySelectedNumbers { public static void main(String[] args)throws IOException { String name; String strLine; try { FileInputStream fstream = new FileInputStream("PhoneFile.txt"); // Get the object of DataInputStream DataInputStream in = new DataInputStream(fstream); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(in)); Scanner input = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.print("Enter a first name"); name = input.nextLine(); strLine= br.readLine(); String[] line = strLine.split(" "); String part1 = line[0]; String part2 = line[1]; String part3 = line[2]; //Read File Line By Line while ((strLine= br.readLine()) != null) { if(name.equals(part1)) { // Print the content on the console System.out.print("\n" + part2 + " " + part3); } } }catch (Exception e) {//Catch exception if any System.out.println("Error: " + e.getMessage()); } } }

  • asp.net web app - writing data to access or error logs?

    - by chris
I'm looking for a quick way to log some data - I seem to remember a way to write to the access log, similar to System.Out.Println() but I can't seem to remember how to do it. I can't attach a debugger, nor can I add additional information to the web app via Response.Write(). Is there a simple way - a single statement with no configuration changes would be ideal - to write to either the error or access logs?

  • How to import your own non-packaged Java classes in Jython

    - by thepandaatemyface
I know in Jython you can do import java.util.Random as Random Random().nextInt() But if I have a class I wrote myself, how can I import it into Jython without putting the class itself in a package? If I have a testclass Test: public class Test { public void foo() { System.out.println("bar"); } } that's not inside a package. Can I even import that into jython by using something along the lines offrom Test import Test?

  • splat operator in groovy?

    - by IttayD
def foo(map, name) { println(map) } foo("bar", hi: "bye") will print [hi:bye] Now I have a previous map that I wish to pass along to foo. In pseudo code, something like: def otherMap = [hi: "world"] foo("bar", hi: "bye", otherMap*) So that it prints [hi:world] This doesn't work of course. Also, trying to pass just the map mixes the order of arguments: def otherMap = [hi: "world"] foo("bar", otherMap) will print bar How can I fix this?

  • Data not synchornizing java sockets

    - by Droid_Interceptor
I am writing a auction server and client and using a class called BidHandler to deal with the bids another class AuctionItem to deal with the items for auction. The main problem I am having is little synchroization problem. Screen output of client server as can see from the image at 1st it takes the new bid and changes the value of the time to it, but when one the user enters 1.0 the item seems to be changed to that. But later on when the bid changes again to 15.0 it seems to stay at that price. Is there any reason for that. I have included my code below. Sorry if didnt explain this well. This is the auction client import java.io.*; import java.net.*; public class AuctionClient { private AuctionGui gui; private Socket socket; private DataInputStream dataIn; private DataOutputStream dataOut; //Auction Client constructor String name used as identifier for each client to allow server to pick the winning bidder public AuctionClient(String name,String server, int port) { gui = new AuctionGui("Bidomatic 5000"); gui.input.addKeyListener (new EnterListener(this, gui)); gui.addWindowListener(new ExitListener(this)); try { socket = new Socket(server, port); dataIn = new DataInputStream(socket.getInputStream()); dataOut = new DataOutputStream(socket.getOutputStream()); dataOut.writeUTF(name); while (true) { gui.output.append("\n"+dataIn.readUTF()); } } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } public void sentBid(String bid) { try { dataOut.writeUTF(bid); } catch(IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } public void disconnect() { try { socket.close(); } catch(IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } public static void main (String args[]) throws IOException { if(args.length!=3) { throw new RuntimeException ("Syntax: java AuctionClient <name> <serverhost> <port>"); } int port = Integer.parseInt(args[2]); AuctionClient a = new AuctionClient(args[0],args[1],port); } } The Auction Server import java.io.*; import java.net.*; import java.util.*; public class AuctionServer { public AuctionServer(int port) throws IOException { ServerSocket server = new ServerSocket(port); while(true) { Socket client = server.accept(); DataInputStream in = new DataInputStream(client.getInputStream()); String name = in.readUTF(); System.out.println("New client "+name+" from " +client.getInetAddress()); BidHandler b = new BidHandler (name, client); b.start(); } } public static void main(String args[]) throws IOException { if(args.length != 1) throw new RuntimeException("Syntax: java AuctionServer <port>"); new AuctionServer(Integer.parseInt(args[0])); } } The BidHandler import java.net.*; import java.io.*; import java.util.*; import java.lang.Float; public class BidHandler extends Thread { Socket socket; DataInputStream in; DataOutputStream out; String name; float currentBid = 0.0f; AuctionItem paper = new AuctionItem(" News Paper ", " Free newspaper from 1990 ", 1.0f, false); protected static Vector handlers = new Vector(); public BidHandler(String name, Socket socket) throws IOException { this.name = name; this.socket = socket; in = new DataInputStream (new BufferedInputStream (socket.getInputStream())); out = new DataOutputStream(new BufferedOutputStream(socket.getOutputStream())); } public synchronized void run() { try { broadcast("New bidder has entered the room"); handlers.addElement(this); while(true) { broadcast(paper.getName() + paper.getDescription()+" for sale at: " +paper.getPrice()); while(paper.getStatus() == false) { String message = in.readUTF(); currentBid = Float.parseFloat(message); broadcast("Bidder entered " +currentBid); if(currentBid > paper.getPrice()) { paper.setPrice(currentBid); broadcast("New Higgest Bid is "+paper.getPrice()); } else if(currentBid < paper.getPrice()) { broadcast("Higgest Bid is "+paper.getPrice()); } else if(currentBid == paper.getPrice()) { broadcast("Higgest Bid is "+paper.getPrice()); } } } } catch(IOException ex) { System.out.println("-- Connection to user lost."); } finally { handlers.removeElement(this); broadcast(name+" left"); try { socket.close(); } catch(IOException ex) { System.out.println("-- Socket to user already closed ?"); } } } protected static void broadcast (String message) { synchronized(handlers) { Enumeration e = handlers.elements(); while(e.hasMoreElements()) { BidHandler handler = (BidHandler) e.nextElement(); try { handler.out.writeUTF(message); handler.out.flush(); } catch(IOException ex) { handler = null; } } } } } The AuctionItem Class class AuctionItem { String itemName; String itemDescription; float itemPrice; boolean itemStatus; //Create a new auction item with name, description, price and status public AuctionItem(String name, String description, float price, boolean status) { itemName = name; itemDescription = description; itemPrice = price; itemStatus = status; } //return the price of the item. public synchronized float getPrice() { return itemPrice; } //Set the price of the item. public synchronized void setPrice(float newPrice) { itemPrice = newPrice; } //Get the status of the item public synchronized boolean getStatus() { return itemStatus; } //Set the status of the item public synchronized void setStatus(boolean newStatus) { itemStatus = newStatus; } //Get the name of the item public String getName() { return itemName; } //Get the description of the item public String getDescription() { return itemDescription; } } There is also simple GUI to go with this that seems to be working fine. If anyone wants it will include the GUI code.

  • Producer and Consumer Threads Hang

    - by user972425
So this is my first foray into threads and thus far it is driving me insane. My problem seems to be some kind of synchronization error that causes my consumer thread to hang. I've looked at other code and just about everything I could find and I can't find what my error is. There also seems to be a discrepancy between the code being executed in Eclipse and via javac in the command line. Intention - Using a bounded buffer (with 1000 slots) create and consume 1,000,000 doubles. Use only notify and wait. Problem - In Eclipse the consumer thread will occasionally hang around 940,000 iterations, but other times completes. In the command line the consumer thread always hangs. Output - Eclipse - Successful Producer has produced 100000 doubles. Consumer has consumed 100000 doubles. Producer has produced 200000 doubles. Consumer has consumed 200000 doubles. Producer has produced 300000 doubles. Consumer has consumed 300000 doubles. Producer has produced 400000 doubles. Consumer has consumed 400000 doubles. Producer has produced 500000 doubles. Consumer has consumed 500000 doubles. Producer has produced 600000 doubles. Consumer has consumed 600000 doubles. Producer has produced 700000 doubles. Consumer has consumed 700000 doubles. Producer has produced 800000 doubles. Consumer has consumed 800000 doubles. Producer has produced 900000 doubles. Consumer has consumed 900000 doubles. Producer has produced 1000000 doubles. Producer has produced all items. Consumer has consumed 1000000 doubles. Consumer has consumed all items. Exitting Output - Command Line/Eclipse - Unsuccessful Producer has produced 100000 doubles. At this point it just sits and hangs. Any help you can provide about where I might have misstepped is greatly appreciated. Code - Producer thread import java.text.DecimalFormat;+ " doubles. • Custom SessionListener, name is not bound in this context, javax.naming.NameNotFoundException

Hi, I am trying to implement HttpSessionListener so that users of this listener can register implementation of ISessionEvent interface to session Events.code is below: public class MySessionListener implements HttpSessionListener{ @Resource ISessionEvent sessionEvent; public ISessionEvent getSessionEvent() { return sessionEvent; } public void setSessionEvent(ISessionEvent sessionEvent) { this.sessionEvent = sessionEvent; } @Override public void sessionCreated(HttpSessionEvent arg0) { sessionEvent.SessionCreated(arg0.getSession()); } @Override public void sessionDestroyed(HttpSessionEvent arg0) { sessionEvent.SessionDestroyed(arg0.getSession()); } } When user implement ISessionEvent and add as a bean, SessionCreated and SessionDestroyed functions of implementation will be called when these events occured. You can ask why dont you just write inside listeners methods, i dont i'm just trying. When i try the code above i got the following error message: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Name com.mehmet6parmak.sessionlistener.MySessionListener is not bound in this Context at org.apache.naming.NamingContext.lookup(NamingContext.java:770) at org.apache.naming.NamingContext.lookup(NamingContext.java:153) at org.apache.catalina.util.DefaultAnnotationProcessor.lookupFieldResource(DefaultAnnotationProcessor.java:278) at org.apache.catalina.util.DefaultAnnotationProcessor.processAnnotations(DefaultAnnotationProcessor.java:187) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext.listenerStart(StandardContext.java:4082) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContext.start(StandardContext.java:4630) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.start(ContainerBase.java:1045) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardHost.start(StandardHost.java:785) at org.apache.catalina.core.ContainerBase.start(ContainerBase.java:1045) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardEngine.start(StandardEngine.java:445) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardService.start(StandardService.java:519) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardServer.start(StandardServer.java:710) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina.start(Catalina.java:581) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:597) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.start(Bootstrap.java:289) at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.main(Bootstrap.java:414) Resource annotation causes the error but i could not resolve it. Thanks All... Interface and Implementation @Resource public interface ISessionEvent { public void SessionCreated(HttpSession session); public void SessionDestroyed(HttpSession session); } @Resource public class SessionEvent implements ISessionEvent { @Override public void SessionDestroyed(HttpSession session) { System.out.println("From Session Event Callback(Destroy):" + session.getId()); } @Override public void SessionCreated(HttpSession session) { System.out.println("From Session Event Callback(Create):" + session.getId()); } } Bean Definition <context:annotation-config/> <context:component-scan base-package="com.mehmet6parmak"> </context:component-scan> <bean id="sessionEvent" autowire="byName" class="com.mehmet6parmak.sessionlistener.SessionEvent"></bean> Solution:Using the method used in link works.

  • Android - cant read TXT files from SDcard on real mashine?

    - by JustMe
Hello! When I run the code bellow in the virtual android (1.5) it works well, TextSwitcher shows first 80 chars from each txt file from /sdcard/documents/ , but when I run it on my Samsung Galaxy i7500 (1.6) there are no contents in TextSwitcher, however in LogCat there are FileNames of txt files. My Code: public void getTxtFiles(){ //Scan /sdcard/documents and put .txt files in array File TxtFiles[] String path = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory().toString()+"/documents/"; String files; File folder = new File(path); if(folder.exists()==false){if (!folder.mkdirs()) { Log.e("TAG", "Create dir in sdcard failed"); return; }} else{ File listOfFiles[] = folder.listFiles(); for (int i = 0; i < listOfFiles.length; i++) { if (listOfFiles[i].isFile()) { files = listOfFiles[i].getName(); if (files.endsWith(".txt") || files.endsWith(".TXT")) { if((files.length()-1)>i){resizeArray(TxtFiles, files.length()+10);} TxtFiles[i]=listOfFiles[i]; System.out.println(TxtFiles[i]); } } }} } private void updateCounter(int Pozicija) { if(Pozicija<0){Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), R.string.LastTxt, 5).show(); mCounter++;} else if(TxtFiles[mCounter]!=null){ TextToShow = getContents(TxtFiles[mCounter]); if(TextToShow.length()>80)TextToShow=TextToShow.substring(0, 80); mSwitcher.setText(TextToShow); System.out.println(Pozicija); } else mCounter--; } static public String getContents(File aFile) { //...checks on aFile are elided StringBuilder contents = new StringBuilder(); try { //use buffering, reading one line at a time //FileReader always assumes default encoding is OK! BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader(new FileReader(aFile)); try { String line = null; //not declared within while loop /* * readLine is a bit quirky : * it returns the content of a line MINUS the newline. * it returns null only for the END of the stream. * it returns an empty String if two newlines appear in a row. */ while (( line = input.readLine()) != null){ contents.append(line); contents.append(System.getProperty("line.separator")); } } finally { input.close(); } } catch (IOException ex){ ex.printStackTrace(); } return contents.toString(); } And I am able to write contents of those files though LogCat! Any ideas?
