  • Can I get Linux into 'Party/Kiosk-Mode' like status?

    I want to create a linux user account (in ubuntu or debian or whatever release is more suitable for this) which cannot do anything but just view a pre-determined web page. Kind of Kiosk style so that the user can observe what is going on from that web page but; cannot execute or write (and this blocking is preferably made also via GUI i.e. user cant minimize or close the browser, cant view any -start menus- )anything on machine. How can I do this?

  • foswiki: hide some topic info when editing in WYSWYG mode.

    I have a FOSWiki installation with a bunch of Topic templates already defined. the problem is, when a user selects the topic, they are presented with a bunch of extra information that they should not edit, and should not even see really. Is there a way to hide this content in the WYSWYG editor? I want to close it from telnet session itself without coming to telnet prompt by pressing.   • How do I get Chrome to not try to open in Windows 8 mode?

    It's not that I'm trying to make it more like 7. That's not the problem. My problem is that whenever I click the Google Chrome icon on my taskbar or even the desktop, Windows brings up this screen-spanning message box saying that my resolution is too low to launch run Google Chrome, and to set my computer to a higher resolution. (I can't.) It then continues to open Chrome correctly after I hit close. This also happens when I click a link in an external program like skype or psi.

    I have a .net4 web application running in a 64 bits 2008 server. I can only get it to run when I set the app pool to Enable 32-bits application to true.     I have HyperV on Windows 2008 Enterprise R2 installed with some Virtual Server running that I wanted to have ISA or NTOP to monitor traffic. I've added additional physical NIC to server and wanted to use this NIC as traffic monitor (I've enabled port mirroring on switch). I can see on physical machine that runs HyperV a lot of traffic coming to the NIC so port mirroring works fine. However in virtual machine even thou I've assigned that NIC to only this one and only server it sees 0 packets. In VWMare Workstation it worked without problem and I could see mirrored traffic on VM. Should this be possible or HyperV is crippled?

  • Why does Chromium run so slow in portable mode?

    I am using Chromium on a flash drive through LiberKey and it does everything I want it to do as far as syncing my Chrome bookmarks from home, etc. But it's soooooo slow. If I open more than 1 tab, or if a tab is heavy with code such as Gmail or GMaps, then the entire program hangs for about 5-10 seconds. I don't exactly know how portable apps work when run from a flash drive, so is there a way to speed up load times?

  • Why is rsync.exe [cwRsync] trying to open a port when in client mode?

    I'm trying to use a cygwin compiled version of rsync [the cwrsync package] on Windows and in seemingly whatever configuration I test in there is a request to the user presented by Windows Firewall to allow inbound traffic. If you deny this request, everything works fine - as expected. I'm doing a vanilla push rsync.exe localpath user@remotepath:/absolutepath and it works just fine. I've also attempted this command having deleted ssh from the path and using rsync on local paths - still a firewall prompt. Why is this listen() happening and is there a way I can force the client to not attempt to listen without recompiling and maintaing a patch?

  • Why would http & https be blocked, even in safe mode with firewall disabled?

    I have a windows 7 machine (dell studio xps). Everything on it seems to be in working order. The network device says it has internet connectivity, and indeed I can ping websites, transfer files via ftp, connect to vpns and remote desktop, but the web won't work. I've disabled the windows firewall and still no go. There are no other firewalls installed. The computer came with a trial of norton 360 so I also used the norton removal tool (which solved a similar problem on another computer for me previously). Any thoughts?

    Our school's VLE has a few problems when running in IE8/IE9's Compatibility View. Mainly it causes difficulties with uploading files. This problem is easily remedied by un-ticking the Display intranet sites in Compatibility View option from Internet Explorer's Compatibility View options. However, I'm unable to find a way of doing this en masse. I can't find anything regarding this in GPO - would a registry hack or similar do the trick? Thanks in advance,

  • Can I format a USB key in GUID mode in windows 7 to make it Mac OSX boot friendly?

    I have a macbookpro that wont boot properly. I've tried resetting the PRAM (holding down option - alt - P - R), but it doesn't work, it gets halfway through the boot process and says "You need to restart your computer" in several languages. Recently I downloaded a USB Key compatible Linux OS. This USB Key works as a boot loader on Windows machines, but on OSX it can only find the Harddrive partitions when I go into the boot loader menu (holding down Option on startup). I am assuming it is because it is formatted as FAT32, and not GUID Table. I believe my CD drive is also bust, it hasn't worked in a long time. I don't have another Mac computer, so is there a way I can format the USB key as GUID Partition from a windows 7 machine?
