• Unity setting problem when defined in code

  I have problem when asking for default ILogger from Unity container. I have this setting defined in code (its VB.net) Dim container As IUnityContainer ... container.RegisterType(Of ILogger, NullLogger)() container.RegisterType(Of ILogger, EntLibLogger)("EL") When I am getting ILogger from container I may have different name, like: Ioc.Resolve(Of ILogger)("MyLogger") However this raises error as the mapping is not set for 'MyLogger'. Can I force container to return type which was registered without name? Actually when I used setting from web.config it worked. Any tips most welcome. Thanks. Cheers, X.

  I have been storing option lists for my Android app in a cloud table. For example, categories like "historical fiction","biography","science fiction", etc. I see the following pros and cons: Pro: I can make changes to the list without sending an app update to Google Play Not normalized - I can use the text in my other data tables instead of a reference ID Con: App needs to take time to download from the web each time (or at least check for changes) English only I believe the "proper" way to do this is the use the XML resource files. But I need to make sure the selection references correctly with my data. That is, my app needs to understand that "Poetry" and "Poesía" are the same thing. Is the correct thing to do: Forget about it since I'll never get to the point where I'm translating my app anyway Use a string-array and use the index (0...x) to know what the selection is Use a 2-dimensional string-array with a reference ID in the first column and the text in the second?

I've made some experiments on a local shell with configuration loaded using the technique found in NoseGAE versus live on the 'App Engine Console' [1] and it looks to me like a distinction btw real instance and dev server is the presence of the module google.appengine.tools. • Passing a enum value as a tag attribute in JSP

  I have a custom JSP tag which is using a parameter which is an enum. This approach is a consequence of using other classes which need this enumeration. The point is I have no clue how to assign an enum value in the EL: <mytaglib:mytag enumParam="${now what do I type here?}" /> The only workaround which I found so far was to make the enumParam an Integer and convert it to desired values: <mytaglib:mytag enumParam="3" /> I believe there must be a better way to do it. Please help.

• Why can't there be an "ultimate" programming language? [closed]

  There is an uncountable sum of programming languages out there. They obviously all have their pro's and con's - but why can't there be one to "beat them all"? The main part of a programming language is it's syntax and what's possible with it. The rest are usually only a bunch of libraries, frameworks and extensions wrapped around it. So couldn't you combine all the great aspects and experiences gained from the thousands of programming languages out there to build one with a syntax that fits every task? Wouldn't it be better having only one programming language? I see only problems with the current amount of the ones in use. Why can't there be a perfect language when thinking of syntax, constructs and typing?

  I am in the process of creating a dynamic database where user will be able to create resource type where he/she can add custom fields (multiple texts, strings, and files) Each resource type will have the ability to display, import, export its data; I've been thinking about it and here are my approaches. I would love to hear what do you guys think. Ideas: just hashing all the custom data in a data field (pro: writing is easier, con: reading back out may be harder); children fields (the model will have multiple fields of strings, fields of text, and fields for file path); fixed number of custom fields in the same table with a key mapping data hash stored in the same row; Non-SQL approach, but then the problem would be generating/changing models on the fly to work with different custom fields;

• Mixing expressions and expression language (<%= %> inside of c:if)

  I need to access some constants in my jsp, and sadly the EL does not offer any functionality for it. There are some options like the unstandard tag library, but I'd like to keep it a bit more standard. I tried: <%@ page import = "com.jackdane.Constants"%> <c:if test="${object.display == '<%=com.jackdane.Constants.YES %>}'"> //some display logic </c:if> But that doesn't appear to do the trick. It's been a while since I've used an expression so I might have made an error. Any input is appreciated. Edit: To clarify, the constants class is not in my control. It's inside a jar file that I recieved. It contains no getters/setters. Just private static final Strings.

• Proper programming procedure?

  I am creating a scoring application which is dependent upon what a user selects at the beginning menu. Example: If a user clicks 18, I want it to base itself off 18 holes of golf. If a user clicks 9, I want it to base itself off 9 holes of golf. Is it better to create a separate class for the code for 9 holes, and then another for 18 holes and then launch whichever depending on what the user selects? Or should I keep everything in 1 file and use a global variable to define different parameters? Still very new to android programming (or programming in general) so not sure of the proper "etiquette" if you will... Also what would be the pro's and con's of doing it either way?   i have users and i need them to specify a gender (male, female) and year of birth (1930, 1931...1999, 2000). i wonder where i should store these values: in the database? in php file? if i store them in the database i have to manually create all entries first. but a good thing is that the user table will have constraints so the gender field will always be male or female, it cannot be something else. if i store them in the php file (eg. as html) then i can easily add/remove values. but a con is that i dont have the constraints in database, so another value could be stored as gender by mistake, even though i could add validation in php backend so even if someone hacked the html it is not stored unless it's either male or female. what is best practice to do this? thanks

  Hello, I have this very strange error with h:graphicImage This code works fine :- <h:graphicImage value="/Common/Images/#{item.templatePicName}"/> And this one doesn't :- <h:graphicImage alt="${app:getCommonImagePath(item.templatePicName)}" value="${app:getCommonImagePath(item.templatePicName)}" /> It only shows alt value /Common/Images/Sunset.jpg which is perfectly fine and works in 1st case. Then why doesn't it work in 2nd case? There are no problems with my images.   Hello, Is it possible to get the size of an element after resizing it using $(el).css()? My code is: function resize() { $(".combobox").css('width', '100%'); var width = $(".combobox").width(); } I've get the real value of the combobox only after calling the function a second time. The first time is gets the width before executing $(".combobox").css('width', '100%'); I suppose this is fault of the DOM not being recreated after the .css().   Currently we put Domain Objects into our ASP.NET Sessions. Now we considering moving from InProc sessions to state server. This requires that all objects inside session are serializable. Instead to annotate all objects with the [Serializable] attribute, we thought about creating custom-session objects (DTO Session Objects?), which only contain the information we need: CONS: Entities must be reloaded, which requires additional DB round-trips PROS: Session State is smaller Session information is more specific (could be a CON) No unneeded annotation of Domain-Entities What do you think? Should we use some kind of DTOs to store inside the session, or should we stick with god old entities?

  I have an array with a lot of data from a database. In the array, there are two fields called teameinsid and teamzweiid. The query is a very simple one : $spiel = mysql_query("select teameinsid, teamzweiid from begegnung", $connection) or die("Keine passende Begegnung"); What I need is to search in the database for the names of these IDs. The names are in a different table. What I have now is the following: while($tmp = mysql_fetch_array($spiel)){ $teins = $tmp['teameinsid']; $tzwei = $tmp['teamzweiid']; } So I know the two IDs, but I don't know where to save the names. If I try: $name = mysql_query("select name from team where teameinsid = $teins", $con) it gets overwritten every time. How can I manage this?

• PHP, better to set the variable before if or use if/else?

  So a simple one that I just never could find a straight answer on. What is better (performance or otherwise): $var = false; If ($a == $b) { $var = true; } or If ($a == $b) { $var = true; } else { $var = false; } I've heard arguments for both ways. I find the first cleaner to ensure I have it set, and a little less code too. The pro being that you may only need to set it once without conditional. But the con being that if the argument is true, it gets set twice. I am assuming the second way is probably best practice
