  Trying to make DNS changes to enable email to be sent using hMailServer. My mail server is on a separate machine with a separate IP Address. I have already added MyDomain.com and an email account I have create a MX Record with the mail server being mail.domain.com an a priority on 20. 1) But the question is how do I now link this MX record for the domain to my mail server/ mail server IP Address? 2) What changes are needed in hMailServer to complete the process and be able to send emails for the domain? 3) In Settings SMTP Delivery of email: What should my configuration here look like?

• Why is my IMAP port not showing as open ( yet it works? )

  Ive recently setup Postfix and Dovecot IMAP on a Debian Lenny box. Sending to this domain works fine and reading the email via IMAP works fine too. I'm curious though as to why when running nmap, port 10143 is not shown as open. nmap -sS -O 127.0.0.1 Starting Nmap 4.62 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2011-11-26 21:30 GMT Interesting ports on localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1): Not shown: 1711 closed ports PORT STATE SERVICE 22/tcp open ssh 25/tcp open smtp 80/tcp open http 3306/tcp open mysql Am I missing something with NMAP? • iDrac6 Email Alert Problem

  I'm trying to setup the email alerts on the iDrac6 Express on an R610, but when i run the test it just says "Sending Failed". Platform Event Filter Alerts are enabled. The network setup is: 192.168.1.22/255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 DNS: 192.168.1.1 SMTP: 192.168.1.1 Exim is listening 192.168.1.1 and is set to allow mail on 192.168/16. There's nothing in the exim logs about connections from the drac. Is there a way to get the drac to give more information about why it's sending failed?

• Mail Enabled Sharepoint 2010 Loop Detected

  I have setup a small Sharepoint 2010 deployment and it is working fine, for now. I have run through one of the more popular step by step guides to mail enable the install and what I have is internal and external mail going to my mail enabled list hitting my Exchange 2010 server (on another Win2k8R2 box) and sitting in the submissions queue with a Loop Detected error and they progres no further. Everything appears OK as per the guide. I have setup an SMTP role on the Sharepoint box, as per the guide. I have setup a new Send Conenctor on the Exchange 2010 server, as per the guide. Any ideas on troubleshooting here?

  I'm trying to make curl use GOST2001-GOST89-GOST89 cipher which is available and usable by OpenSSL but keep getting failed setting cipher list error despite the fact that curl sees gost engine and can use GOST client certificates. How can I fix this? • TCP/IP Ilustrated 1 second edition [on hold]

  Well, I want to read and learn about how tcpip works in detail, so I got a copy of the well known book of Richard Stevens. But after a little, I discovered there is a second edition of the book, so I checked it out. But surprisingly, the second edition does not cover some subjects that the first actually does (like telnet, ftp, smtp etc...), so I thought "well I just have to read the misshing chapters on the first edition", but if they removed them in the second, it is for a reason. Is there really a good reason for that?

  I wonder how stuff like this works in windows (xp and other that have telnet): Start-> Run -> cmd -> telnet <xyz.com> http Start-> Run -> cmd -> telnet <xyz.com> pop3 Start-> Run -> cmd -> telnet <xyz.com> smtp Are these "named" ports? Only windows knows that it has to substitute port numbers coz these are standard ports? Is there way I could create such a named port on windows? • Can i safely block all ports on my sever

  I have a web server running pleks and get attacked a lot every day. I configured a firewall, and there are some predefined services such as www, and ftp, etc. I am planning to block all the ports except for the www port and the PLESK port. When I need ftp or ssh access for example i will open the ports in PLESK and then start to work. Is this a good thing to do or are there some downsides on doing this. There are some ports I am not sure of, such as SMTP,POP3,IMAP, DNS. Can i close these ports or is there no need to do so.

• Has anyones successfully configured mutt for GMail on FreeBSD? If so, how?

  I've tried following the instructions here and here. Currently, I can read email from my GMail account, but not send—this is on a personal computer, so even if I configured Sendmail, I doubt any of the mail would survive the spam filter gauntlet. Both guides seem to require the --enable-smtp option for mutt, which I don't think is being exposed by ports. I've tried the mutt and mutt-devel ports and neither seem to give me that option. On a far less important note, I also haven't been able to change folders, e.g., I get told that Sent Mail is not a valid folder when I attempt to go into it. If you can troubleshoot this problem, it's pure gravy. I really only care about sending. Thanks, Hank

  Lately I've been really interested in doing some very unique things with email most of which rely on a SMTP and POP or IMAP server that gives the administrator an API to create arbitrary methods for email storage, notifications, or delivery. What I'm looking for would be analogous to mod_php and apache where apache handles the delivery protocol and php handles the content creation and storage. I've considered making my own, as those three protocols are quite simple, but I'm always nervous about putting my code public facing especially when it's at that low of a level. So are there any email servers that allow for this much arbitrary control over email delivery, fetching, and receiving.

  I need to move hosting providers for four or five domains and for several reasons I'm considering a Linux VPS rather than staying with my current shared, managed hosting provider. The only thing that's stopping me is email. I have lots of experience running and maintaining Apache, but none with email servers. Based on some research, if I want to keep what I've using now, it looks like I'd be going with Postfix and Dovecot, and probably Exim and SpamAssassin. I have no problem performing regular maintenance and watching for security updates, but I don't want to bite off more than I can chew. For someone new to email services, how hard is it to set up an email server that is externally accessible (via SMTP and POP3, not IMAP), available over SSL/TLS and reasonably reliable for multiple domains? How much of a time commitment is it to maintain one?

  Our mail server was originally setup using self-created certificates, however when those expired and I tried to recreate them, the whole thing just blew up. Since I know it will be important, we are running a Debian server and Postfix.   We are currently running a root server with Debian 6 and Plesk 10.4.4. We have some virtual hosts using one IP adress (shared) - e.g. example1.com - and another virtual host using a dedicated IP address (example2.com). Is there a way to configure postfix to do the following Always use the IP address of the virtual host to which the e-mail account belongs (so that an e-mail from [email protected] will originate from the shared IP-Address and an e-mail from [email protected] will originate from the dedicated IP? Use different certificates for TLS for example1.com and example2.com? If the latter is not possible: Could any problems arrive when using example1.com as certificate for example2.com users? Of course, example2.com users would have to configure their clients to use example1.com as the SMTP server name to avoid annoying security warnings. But if we still would be able to get the effect of the first point that would still be acceptable.

• Sync iPhone Mail with Webmail

  I had an email account [email protected] hosted on Host A. This mailbox had 100 messages. I wanted to migrate to Host B, so I download all the 100 messages from Host A on my iPhone. Now that my site was successfully migrated to Host B and the email account [email protected] was created again (the mailbox is empty), how can I send the messages that I have downloaded on my iPhone to the mailbox on Host B? Note that the migration from Host A to Host B did not change the IMAP and SMTP adressess and parameters. I'm still using the same addresses, parameters and ports as before. The email accounts just switched hosting.

• Issue with user having a gmail account and Google Apps account using same email/username

We have a user in our organization that had been using her email address at our domain at her username for gmail.com We recently moved our folks on to Google Apps, and have just moved our email server over to Google (IMAP/SMTP). I'm having all kinds of trouble only with this user's account with her sending and receiving email via the new Google mail server and wondering if it's because of her existing Gmail account. So her email address with us is [email protected], which is her login/user id with us on our Google Apps site. She still has her gmail identity tied to that same [email protected]. She's ok with deleting her old Gmail account...if I do so however will it goof things up for her going forward with us on the Google Apps site? Will she not be able to receive email? Thanks! Joshua

• 421 Concurrent Connections - Ratelimit from helpdesk to rackspace server

  We have Kayako helpdesk running on our WHM Linux server. When e-mails come in from customers, notifications are sent out by Kayako to a number of staff whose mailboxes are hosted on Rackspace mail servers. I noticed a large queue in the Exim queued message viewer of WHM - when looking in Exim logs I can see many lines 2012-10-13 20:06:56 1TN72s-0007Cw-1l SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection: host mx2.emailsrvr.com [173.203.2.32]: 421 Too many concurrent connections from this client. One client email results in about 5 emails to rackspace servers, perhaps 60 emails per 1 hour on average - not a huge amount but enough to cause messages to be rejected when sent in short bursts. In this case ideally if we can limit the connections sent to the rackspace server we can comply with their limit. For our requirements if we send 1 email every10 seconds or so, this would be OK. Messages to all other servers should go through a normal rates, only mx1.emailsrvr.com and mx2.emailsrvr.com should have this connection limit policy applied. Is this possible?

• linux log memory hogging issue

  Hi, We have a VPS server (it's using Virtuozzo). On a few occasions now, our VPS memory was fully used up and no new connections could be made to the server on SSH, SMTP, or POP. The only thing that works is connecting to the web service. Luckily, plesk is running on the VPS and we have been able to reboot it through plesk (as well as see that the RAM is 100% used). I would like to find what process is causing this. I have a feeling it's MySQL, but don't really know. Is there some sort of logging I could implement that would help me find out what was the cause of this next time it happens? Thanks.

  I have a Kyocera MFD. I have it set to scan to email using the ISP's SMTP server. The messages are delivered and received by the hosted email server. The POP connector on the SBS server downloads the messages, but delivers them to the badmail folder. I have given the message a subject and a body. • Finding a message in an archive in Kerio MailServer 6

  I need to locate some emails from the archive. Kerio is set to archive emails on a daily basis, keeping the last 2 months. From the mail log, I found entries like: [09/Oct/2012 18:02:20] Recv: Queue-ID: 5074589c-00004ddb, Service: SMTP, From: <info@XXXXXXXXXXXX>, To: <Suzette@xxxxxxxxxxx>, Size: 699, Sender-Host: mail.XXXXXXXXXXX, User: automailer@XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX I need to locate this specific email. The archive folder has a lot of ZIP files like: 2012-Oct-06 2012-Oct-07 2012-Oct-08 2012-Oct-09 ... I assumed this would be in the 2012-Oct-09 zip file. I extracted it, and the zip file contains a lot of emails in the /#msgs/ folder, named: 0000000a.eml 0000000b.eml 0000000c.eml ... I did a search for the last part of the Queue-ID, 00004ddb, but it returned no results. I tried other random searches for other emails in the mail log, but I couldn't find a single one. Any idea how one goes about finding such an email in the archive?

• Configure Nginx On Separate Server For Zimbra Webmail

  How do I properly configure a server with nginx to front for a Zimbra server with multiple domains? I run a small SOHO network. I NAT/port forwarding on my Comcast router to get traffic to my handful of servers. I setup a server with Zimbra, call it host1.internal.local. The server currently has two domains, call them domain1.com and domain2.com. Both offer webmail access at webmail.domain1.com and webmail.domain2.com. I have a separate server with nginx. I want to configure nginx to reverse proxy, such that I can direct all HTTP/HTTPS, and send webmail traffic via matched host address/headers to the Zimbra server. If possible, I'd like to know how to map IMAP, POP and SMTP traffic too. How would I do this?
