• Somebody is storing credit card data - how are they doing it?

  Storing credit card information securely and legally is very difficult and should not be attempted. I have no intention of storing credit card data but I'm dying to figure out the following: My credit card info is being stored on a server some where in he tworld. This data is (hopefully) not being stored on a merchant's server, but at some point it needs to be stored to verify and charge the account identified by merchant submitted data. My question is this: if you were tasked with storing credit card data what encryption strategy would you use to secure the data on-disk? From what I can tell submitted credit card info is being checked more or less in real time. I doubt that any encryption key used to secure the data is being entered manually, so decryption is being done on the fly, which implies that the keys themselves are being stored on-disk. How would you secure your data and your keys in an automated system like this?

• System for email verification in ASP.NET

  Is a pre-made system available to confirm a new user's email address for an ASP.NET site? I'm using the pre built Authentication and Role providers. The system should be able to send email to a user when they're added to the system that requires them to click a link, that link would then "unlock" the account. Users shouldn't be able to login until their email is verified. I could probably figure out how to roll this on my own but I'd prefer to use a standard method if one exists.

• Create Task Report from Mylyn?

  Hello all - is there a way to create a task/activity report (say a weekly report) off tasks managed with Mylyn? I've been using Rachota TimeTracker which allows me to create reports (in html format) http://rachota.sourceforge.net/en/demo.html I've just started using mylyn (our company uses Embarcadero JBuilder which is is based on Eclipse), but I don't see anywhere in the Eclipse or Embarcadero docs about reporting capabilities. Is it possible? Is it possible to query activities worked on a prior week and report statistics out of it (management like reports, you know;) I'm sure it is, but I haven't been able to google it out. Thanks.

• django urlconf or .htaccess trouble

  Hello I am running my django project from subfolder of a website. Lets say the address where my project is meant to open from is. http://example.com/myproject/ the myproject folder is root folder for my user account. In that folder i have fcgi script that starts my project. The .htaccess file in the folder contains this: RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ mysite.fcgi/$1 [QSA,L] The trouble is, that at some cases, instead of redireting user to page like http://example.com/myproject/social/someurl/ it redirects to http://example.com/social/someurl/ which does not work. What i want to know is how to fix this problem. Is this django problem and i should change it with urconf and add myproject to all urls, or should i do this with .htaccess? • Can't connect to samba

  Windows 7, connecting to Samba shares I have a follow up question from the link above. I am running Samba 3.0.23d on FreeBSD is release 7.1 I changed the policies as described above but still cannot connect to the samba server with the windows 7 or a server 2008. I feel it is a problem with recognizing the new machines on the network. the windows machines can see the samba server, but cannot connect to it or view any of the files. After changing the security policies the samba server asked for network id and password but would not allow the machine to connect, said they were unknown username or bad password. • Thoughts on moving to Maven in an enterprise environment

  I'm interested in hearing from those who either A) use Maven in an enterprise environment or B) tried to use Maven in an enterprise environment. I work for a large company that is contemplating bringing in Maven into our environment. Currently we use OpenMake to build/merge and home-grown software to deploy code to 100+ servers running various platforms (eg. WAS and JBoss). OpenMake works fine for us however Maven does have some ideal features, most importantly being dependency management, but is it viable in a large environment? Also what headaches have/did you incur, if any, in maintaining a Maven environment. Side note, I've read http://stackoverflow.com/questions/861382/why-does-maven-have-such-a-bad-rep, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/303853/what-are-your-impressions-of-maven, and a few other posts. It's interesting seeing the split between developers.

• .htaccess Subfolder Redirect

  Hey Guys & Gals, I recently moved my WordPress website to a subfolder. I want to add a redirect in the .htaccess file so that the links to images I've uploaded originally to ~/wp-content/uploads/ will pass to ~/blog/wp-content/uploads. The .htaccess file must remain in the root folder for WordPress to read it properly. This is what I tried Redirect /wp-content/uploads/ /blog/wp-content/uploads That worked great, except I host other domains on this account, and all of the other domain's upload folders were being redirected in a similar manner. Is there a way to restrict this redirect to just one domain? So that example.com/wp-content/uploads redirects to example.com/blog/wp-content/uploads, but another.com/wp-content/uploads does not? • Xcode license agreement different than Apple Developer Agreement?

  The Apple Developer Agreement (on their website when signing up for a developer account) says: "Apple reserves the right, at its discretion, to modify this Agreement, including any rules and policies at any time." And also: "You agree to follow Apple's Guidelines For Using Apple Trademarks and Copyrights as published on Apple's website at www.apple.com/legal/guidelinesfor3rdparties.html ("Guidelines") and as may be modified from time to time." If I buy a Mac with OS X, it comes with Xcode, correct? In that case what does the license agreement for Xcode say? Does it contain the clauses above, or anything similar? If anyone wants to post a copy of the license agreement here, that would be helpful, but I'm not sure if copyright would allow that.

• MSDN Subscription Site Down?

  I am not sure that this is an SO worthy question. (At least it is not like ones I normally ask.) But I can't get my MSDN Subscription to work any more. Is anyone else having this issue? When I log in and select "My Account" I get this: and when I try to download I get this: I have asked other developers that I know and it is broken for them too. But before I go digging into this, it would be nice to know if this is a me/us issue or an everyone issue. Also, if I am breaking the rules by posting this here let me know and I will delete it. • OT: US Banks: Bank Routing Number and BIC/SWIFT

  I know it is a bit offtopic, but I've been having a hard time finding more information to this question, and since this site is visited by a lot of people from the United States, you guys might know/find the answer more easily. Banks in europe each have a SWIFT Number, while US Banks use Routing Numbers. This leads to following questions: Does each bank in the US also carry a BIC number? (SWIFT) Is there a 1-1 relationship between BIC and SWIFT? Is there a list of these numbers somewhere? (background information: we're adding international payments to our bookkeeping application. Users can add international suppliers, but my boss prefered not to change the current supplier table but to have the ROUTING NUMBER in another table, with as PK the BIC. I'm wondering if BIC is a valid choice, or if it should just be BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER.)

• undefined reference linker error

  Hi, I've stuck myself in a c++ project under linux ,for which I get an undefined reference when I try to create an object of a class that I just wrote.I believe this is an linker error caused by the fact that somewhere , somehow I should tell the linker to take into account the new class. I looked at the project properties and at the run command it executes a script (cmake.sh) . Because the project wasn't created by me , and because I'm a novice in working under linux, I just don't know how to direct the linker to do what I expect him to do !

• Any significance to Google's "expires" date being Fri, 01 Jan 1990 00:00:00 GMT?

  I was looking at the response headers for my GMail account and noticed that the date Fri, 01 Jan 1990 00:00:00 GMT shows up as the value for "Expires" over and over again. I suppose this is just an easy constant to make sure the browser understands this is past its freshness date. But is there any significance to that particular date? One might as easily have used the same date in 2000, or 1970, or whatever. It's not quirky enough to be someone's birthday or date of college graduation or anything personal like that. Maybe it's just arbitrary, but I was wondering if someone has a good explanation why that particular date was chosen.

  I am building an ASP.Net MVC app that will run on a shared hosting account to host multiple domains. I started with the default template that includes membership and created an mvc area for each domain. Routing is set up to point to the correct area depending on the domain the request is for. Now I would like to set up membership specific to each mvc area. I tried the obvious first and attempted to override the section of the web.config for each area to change the applicationName attribute of the provider. That doesn't work since the area is not set up as an application root. Is there an easy way to separate the users for each area?

• C-array to NSData and back

  I'm attempting to save a c-style array of Vertex3D structs to an NSData object and get them back when reloading the app: NSData *vert = [NSData dataWithBytes:&vertices length:(sizeof(Vertex3D) * NUM_OF_VERTICES)]; This data is then saved and attempted to be read back into my c-array thusly: vertices = malloc(sizeof(Vertex3D) * NUM_OF_VERTICES); [vert getBytes:&vertices length:(sizeof(Vertex3D) * NUM_OF_VERTICES)]; The above results in “EXC_BAD_ACCESS” followed by: malloc: * error for object 0x48423c0: pointer being freed was not allocated I'm very new to programming so there's probably some fundamental memory management principle I'm unaware of. I have verified that the loaded NSData is identical to the saved one, but it's clear that the transition from c-array to NSData (and back) is not as I intended.

• NullPointerException with CallableStatement.getResultSet()

  Hello, I have a stored proc in SQL Server 2005, which looks like the following (simplified) CREATE PROCEDURE FOO @PARAMS AS BEGIN -- STEP 1: POPULATE tmp_table DECLARE @tmp_table TABLE (...) INSERT INTO @tmp_table SELECT * FROM BAR -- STEP 2: USE @tmp_table FOR FINAL SELECT SELECT abc, pqr FROM BAZ JOIN @tmp_table ON some_criteria END When I run this proc from SQL Server Management Studio, things work fine. However, when I call the same proc from a Java program, using something like: cs = connection.prepareCall("exec proc ?,"); cs.setParam(...); rs = cs.getResultSet(); // BOOM - Null! while(rs.next()) {...} // NPE! I fail to understand why the first result set returned is NULL. Can someone explain this to me? As a workaround, if I check cs.getMoreResults() and if true, try another getResultSet() - THIS time it returns the proper result set. Any pointers please?   I am looking for a free alternative to TFS. What would be the best alternative stack(source control, bug tracking, project management/planning, wiki, automated builds (ci))? Keeping in mind that it would be nice if they all integrated well. For example, it would be nice to be able to link bugs to source control, and then be able to link to a project plan and then be able to automate building. I do not have issues with using Microsoft project to manage project planing. I know i would like to use these....: SVN TeamCity NUnit But i am struggling to find a good Wiki/Project Planning/Bug tracking, that would integrate well. Any questions let me know.

• Godaddy ASPNET membership database woes -- PLEASE HELP

  Ok heres the deal I purchased a windows shared hosting account on godaddy that came with 2 MSSQL databases. I setup one to hold my site data and the other installed aspnet membership schema to store site members. The site works perfectly even displaying data from the 1st database. However when I try to login or register I get this nasty error Exception Details: System.Configuration.Provider.ProviderException: The SSE Provider did not find the database file specified in the connection string. At the configured trust level (below High trust level), the SSE provider can not automatically create the database file. Ive gone through my web.config and theres nothing wrong with my 2 connection strings. It seems godaddy has a problem with using 2 mssql databases simultaneously when 1 is for membership. Googling just finds a whole lot of people with the same problem -- but no solutions! Does anyone know a solution or a workaround?...or has anyone ever successfully used 2 databases(1 for membership) on godaddy?

  There seems to be a difference between the iPhone simulator and actual device when checking if Twitter is available. I check if a Twitter account is setup by using this code: [SLComposeViewController isAvailableForServiceType:SLServiceTypeTwitter]; In the simulator there is a nice UIAlertView informing the user that there are no Twitter accounts setup and two buttons one for Settings and one for Cancel. However when I run my app on my device it will not show the above UIAlertView. Why is that? And how can I catch what button is tapped in the above UIAlertView (since I did not instantiate it?) • How to Use JQuery Click Event on Button in an AJAX Form

  I admittedly don't know much about JQuery but I have an AJAX page where I need to trigger a click event when someone clicks a button, but because the button is not there on the initial page load, I'm having issues using the click event. In my code, I just want to run a function when a button is clicked. <script type="text/javascript"> //Run function when button is clicked $(document).ready(function() { $("#idOfButton").click(function() { doSomething(); }); }); //The function I want ran when page visitor clicks button function doSomething() { //Do Something } </script> Obviously this code doesn't work, but any suggestions on how to use .click? I'm only able to insert JS via a tag management system, so I can't hard code anything into the page. Also, the JQuery version is 1.4, so I can't use .on. Thanks for your help.
