• Repeated host lookups failing in urllib2

  I have code which issues many HTTP GET requests using Python's urllib2, in several threads, writing the responses into files (one per thread). During execution, it looks like many of the host lookups fail (causing a name or service unknown error, see appended error log for an example). Is this due to a flaky DNS service? Is it bad practice to rely on DNS caching, if the host name isn't changing? I.e. should a single lookup's result be passed into the urlopen? • How do I see if an established socket is stuck on a server that's expecting input?

  I have a script that scans ports for open proxy servers. Problem is if it encounters a login program (specifically telnet) then it hangs there forever since it doesn't know what to do and eventually the server closes the connection. The simple solution would be to create a bunch of cases. If telnet, do this. If SSH, do that. If something else, blah blah blah. I'd like an umbrella solution since the script is not a high priority for me. The script, as it is now, is available at http://parkrrr.net/socks/scan.phps On a small scale (the page maybe averages 15 hits/day) it's fine but on a larger scale I'd be worried about a lot of open zombie sockets. Swapping the !$strpos doesn't work since servers can return more information than what you requested (headers, ads, etc). Only accepting a fixed number of bytes (as opposed to appending until EOF, which it does now) from the $fgets also does not seem to work. • Wordpress paths issue

  I have set a crawler up in wordpress which grabs stocks data and writes to file which when a user enters a symbol/ticker the variable is read and if it matches the data of a previous crawl for that particular companies data will echo the text file on page, if no data is found the crawler then sets off grabs it and writes to file to save for the next time that symbol is used. The problem im having is that everything works groovey apart from one thing, when the content is written to file it saves it in the WP root and not inside a subfolder of the theme, basicaly this means that root becomes untidy very quickly and also should the theme be used on another site then its not practical as some important info is missing. I have tried bloginfo and absolute both return the same failure. • Why does fb:fan control disappear after login with requireSession on external page?

  Hi, Reqs: I want to make an external page with a 'Become a Fan'-button. I want users to login to facebook once they open the page (this is because of other features in the site) So I call FB.Connect.requireSession once the page loads, and put a <fb:fan></fb:fan> control on the page. Then when I open the page I see the 'Connect with Facebook to Continue' pop-up and a small 'Become a fan' button. This seems right. When I log in to Facebook using the pop-up the 'Become a fan button' disappears!! Can anyone explain this weird behaviour or does someone know a way to reach my requirements in a different way.   I am working on a c# project using ASP .net. • CSS3 Border Radius property doesn't work in localhost?

My following CSS and html works fine with IE9 if i double click the file and open with the IE9 , however if the border property does not work in IE if i open the file through LOCALHOST (xampp insatlled on windows 7). The same file works fine on localhost with other browsers. • Upload file using jquery dialog not working

  i want to upload file using jquery dialog. I have created a partial view and showing that partial view in the dialog. The problem is, when I directly browse the partial view and upload a file, it works perfect. BUT when I put the partial view inside a jquery dialog, it submits the form, but don't submits the file. So i have null value. I really dont understand what is the difference here!!   Hi There, I am using Myfaces and Trinidad tld's for page design. In that, I am trying to implement Dialog box which will going to open on button click with tacking some value from parent window and return result to Parent window. Now the problem is I can send value to Dialog box and also get return from dialog box successfully, but there is problem to show return value on Parent window because parent window is not reflecting that value and ask for refresh page. When I refresh page, it again open the pop up, i.e. it resending the previous request. I havw also tried mylogfile.write(result). If the file does not exist is claim's the file does not exist and doesn't create one. Could this be a permission problem where python is not allowed to create a file? I have made sure that all other read's to this file are closed so I the file should not be locked. Can anyone offer any suggestion why this is happening? Thanks

  I've saved a response from an outside server to a text file, so I don't need to keep running connection requests. Instead, perhaps I can use the text file for my manipulation purposes, until I'm read for re-connecting again. • C++ read registry string value in char*

  I'm reading a registry value like this: char mydata[2048]; DWORD dataLength = sizeof(mydata); DWORD dwType = REG_SZ; ..... open key, etc ReqQueryValueEx(hKey, keyName, 0, &dwType, (BYTE*)mydata, &dataLength); My problem is, that after this, mydata content looks like: [63, 00, 3A, 00, 5C, 00...], i.e. this looks like a unicode?!?!. I need to convert this somehow to be a normal char array, without these [00], as they fail a simple logging function I have. I.e. if I call like this: WriteMessage(mydata), it outputs only "c", which is the first char in the registry. I have calls to this logging function all over the place, so I'd better of not modify it, but somehow "fix" the registry value. • PHP generating csv not sending correct new line feeds

  I have a script that generates a csv file using the following code: header('Content-type: text/csv'); header('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="'.date("Ymdhis").'.csv"'); print $content; The $content variable simply contains lines with fields separated by commas and then finalised with ."\n"; to generate a new line. When I open the file in csv it looks fine however, when I try to use the file to import into an external program (MYOB) it does not recognise the End Of Line (\n) character and assumes one long line of text. When I view the contents of the file in notepad, the end of line character (\n) is a small rectangle box which looks like the character code 0x7F. If I open the file and re-save it in excel, it removes this character and replaces it with a proper end of line character and I can import the file. What character do I need to be generating in PHP so that notepad recognises it as a valid End Of Line character? (\n) obviously doesn't do the job.

  i have a problem with a http post call in firefox. I know that when there are a cross origin, firefox first do a OPTIONS before the POST to know the access-control-allow headers. With this code i dont have any problem: Net.requestSpeech.prototype.post = function(url, data) { if(this.xhr != null) { this.xhr.open("POST", url); this.xhr.onreadystatechange = Net.requestSpeech.eventFunction; this.xhr.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "application/json; charset=utf-8"); this.xhr.send(data); } } I test this code with a simple html that invokes this function. Everything is ok and i have the response of the OPTIONS and POST, and i process the response. But, i'm trying to integrate this code with an existen application with uses jquery (i dont know if this is a problem), when the send(data) executes in this case, the browser (firefox) do the same, first do a OPTION request, but in this case dont receive the response of the server and puts this message in console: [18:48:13.529] OPTIONS http://localhost:8111/ [undefined 31ms] Undefined... the undefined is because dont receive the response, but the code is the same, i dont know why in this case the option dont receive the response, someone have an idea? i debug my server app and the OPTIONS arrive ok to the server, but it seems like the browser dont wait to the response. edit more later: ok i think that the problem is when i run with a simple html with a SCRIPT tag that invokes the method who do the request run ok, but in this app that dont receive the response, i have a form that do a onsubmit event, i think that the submit event returns very fast and the browser dont have time to get the OPTIONS request. edit more later later: WTF, i resolve the problem make the POST request to sync: this.xhr.open("POST", url, false); The submit reponse very quickly and can't wait to the OPTION response of the browser, any idea to this?

  I want to be able to create a file from the Content Provider, however I get the following error: java.io.Filenotfoundexception: /0: open file failed: erofs (read-only file system) What I am trying to do is create a file whenever an application calls the insert method from my Provider. This is the excerpt of the code that does the file creation: FileWriter fstream = new FileWriter(valueKey); BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter(fstream); out.write(valueContent); out.close(); Originally I wanted to use openFileOutput() but the function appears to be undefined. Anyone has a workaround to this problem? EDIT: I found out that I had to specify the directory as well. Here is a more complete snippet of the code: File file = new File("/data/data/Project.Package.Structure/files/"+valueKey); file.createNewFile(); FileWriter fstream = new FileWriter(file); BufferedWriter out = new BufferedWriter(fstream); out.write(valueContent); out.close(); I also enabled the permission <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_INTERNAL_STORAGE" /> This time I got an error saying: java.io.IOException: open failed: ENOENT (No such file or directory)

• Boost Include Files in VC++

  For the last few years, I have been exclusively a C# developer. Previously, I developed in C++ and have a C++ application that I built about 3 years ago using VS2005. It made extensive use of the Boost libraries. I recently decided to brush off the old app and rebuild it in VS2008 with the latest version of Boost (the latest version with the "easy" installation program from BoostPro Computing), 1.39. Previously when I had the program running I was at 1.33. Also, the last time the program was running was at least 2 OS installations ago. The Boost installation is located on my machine at: "C:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_39". Anyway, I have done the following: Set the project's "Additional Include Directories" directory to "C:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_39" Added "C:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_39" to VS2008's Tools - Options - Projects and Solutions - VC++ Directories - Include Files I have a number of Boost includes in my stdafx.h file. The compiler fails upon attempting to open the first one - #include <boost/algorithm/string/string.hpp> I have confirmed that the above file is indeed located at "C:\Program Files\boost\boost_1_39\boost\algorithm\string\string.hpp" I continue to get: fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'boost/algorithm/string/string.hpp': No such file or directory Any tips on what else to check would be greatly appreciated. Again, this is an application that compiled fine a few years ago, but the source has now been moved to a new machine/compiler.

• Rapid Opening and Closing System.IO.StreamWriter in C#

  Suppose you have a file that you are programmatically logging information into with regards to a process. Kinda like your typical debug Console.WriteLine, but due to the nature of the code you're testing, you don't have a console to write onto so you have to write it somewhere like a file. My current program uses System.IO.StreamWriter for this task. My question is about the approach to using the StreamWriter. Is it better to open just one StreamWriter instance, do all of the writes, and close it when the entire process is done? Or is it a better idea to open a new StreamWriter instance to write a line into the file, then immediately close it, and do this for every time something needs to be written in? In the latter approach, this would probably be facilitated by a method that would do just that for a given message, rather than bloating the main process code with excessive amounts of lines. But having a method to aid in that implementation doesn't necessarily make it the better choice. Are there significant advantages to picking one approach or the other? Or are they functionally equivalent, leaving the choice on the shoulders of the programmer?
