• LNK1106 with big binary resource

  I have a rather huge .dat-file (896MB) included as a BIN resource in my project. Now I get a LNK1106 link error ("fatal error LNK1106: invalid file or disk full: cannot seek to 0x382A3920".) I use Visual Studio 2005 under Windows XP, and have tried on a 4GB RAM machine with high Virtual Memory settings and lots of disk space. I have tried a number of different optimization flags, but to no avail. Does anyone have a clue? EDIT: I have narrowed it down to a specific size of the compiled resource. If the .res file is 544078588 bytes (about 518.9MB) or larger, the error occurs. If it is smaller it works just fine. Still no solution, though...

• How to temporarily disable read-only 2nd level cache hibernate strategy in Grails ?

  In my grails application, some of my domain classes will never be changed by Users. However, some maintenance work is sometimes necessary, and administrator should be able to create/edit few instances from time to time (let's say twice a year). I would like to set a read-only 2nd level cache strategy for these domain classes (static mapping = { cache usage: 'read-only' } ) AND I would like to be able to 'disable' (in very particular situations) the read-only strategy in order to udate some instances via Grails scaffolding edit view. Is it possible? What do you advise me to do? EDIT: The solution I am implementing is a mix of Pascal and Burt answers (see comments). Both answers are great and helpful. So I got a dilemna for choosing the accepted answer! Anyway, thank you.

• The benefits and hassles of moving entirely to a WPF Project

  Hi, I have a project that i started as a WinForms application as that was the format i was confortable with at the time. I have since started dabbling in WPF an introduced some WPF UserControls (mainly grids) into my project and absolutely love them. The question i have is, is there any real advantage to me changing the UI Project of my solution into a purely WPF project, and get rid of any WinForms? I am fully aware that each format suits a certain environment, and you wouldnt be able to give a definitive answer without knowing more of the details, but i would like to know peoples opinions, and if anyone has done a silimar thing of converting an existing WinForms App into a WPF frontend, and any observations they made in doing so. • TFS and working with multiple solutions

  How do people generally deal with TFS when you've got to work with multiple solution files? If you've got one instance it's easy because you can always go to that window for the source control explorer, pending changes, check on builds or work items. But when you have 4-5 solutions, it becomes tricky to deal with. You might expand some folders or check some pending items on one VS instance but you have to remember which one you did it on. Having a separate instance dedicated just to TFS tasks is tempting, but there's only one window state for the whole program. If that instance is closed last, all instances will come up with all the TFS windows open. How do other people deal with this? Can you use separate profiles somehow and cordon off a "TFS" instance of Visual Studio?

  Before I start to build this myself I thought I'd ask others to share their experience. What's the best / your favorite way to paginate a dataset with an application built upon Zend_Framework and Doctrine as your ORM? I'm new to Doctrine. I'm calling the model directly from a View Helper, bypassing the Controller, although I'm still interested if your solution uses controllers. I did see one article on this topic: http://ciaranmcnulty.com/blog/2009/06/Simplify-pagination-logic-using-a-custom-zend-paginator-adapter Devzone has an article using Doctrine, Zend Framework OR Pear, but none of those options mention a #ZF app that uses Doctrine.

• Finding zoom level from window object properties

  Hi, I want to find out the zoom level of what is being displayed in a browser window based on the javascripts' window object properties (http://www.javascriptkit.com/jsref/window.shtml) to which I have access. I just can't seem to find the right mathematical formula for the zoom based on the inner width, page offset, etc. I found a solution, but that uses the document.body.getBoundingClientRect call which does not return anything in my case and for which I can't tell if there's a suitable replacement from the window properties. • YesNo MessageBox not closing when x-button clicked

  When I open a MessageBox with options YesNo, the (usually) cancelling cross in the upper right is shown but has no effect. System.Windows.MessageBox.Show("Really, really?", "Are you sure?", MessageBoxButton.YesNo); If I offer YesNoCancel as options, clicking the cross closes the Dialog with DialogResult Cancel. System.Windows.MessageBox.Show("Really, really?", "Are you sure?", MessageBoxButton.YesNoCancel); I would have expected that the cross is "looking disabled" if not hidden at all, when clicking it has no effect. Probably I am not the first one observing this. What is your favorite way to hide/disable this button or workaround the issue? Note: I would prefer a solution that does not use System.Windows.Forms, since I am dealing with WPF projects and would like to avoid any InterOp if possible.

  I have created a Money class to save money values in different currencies. The class uses 3 letter ISO symbols to store currency types: public class Money { public decimal Amount { get; set; } public string Currency { get; set; } } Is there a way in C# to use this information, say 100.00 USD, and format it as "$100.00"? Only way I know of requires CultureInfo like this: Amount.ToString("C", CultureInfo.CreateSpecificCulture("en-US")); However this does not work with my Money class. Is there another solution? I am open to changing my Money class. I have searched this site for similar questions (such as this), but couldn't find one that answers the above question.

• Initialize content of a jQuery remote tab on initial page load

  I'm using the jQuery tabs library to create a set of remote (i.e., ajax loaded) tabs. However, to avoid the initial page load being empty until the ajax request finishes, I'd like to include the content for the initial tab with the initial page download. I've got this generally working by providing a div in the initial page load that matches the title of the tab, but even though this content appears immediately, as soon as I initialize the tabs it does the ajax request IN ADDITION which is both wasteful and causes a flicker. My basic question is how can I get jQuery tabs to NOT do an ajax request for the initially selected tab, and get this content as part of the initial page load, while still loading the other tabs dynamically. The complication is that I can't hard code the ids/hrefs for which tab is the "initial" one since the initial tab will change based on available content. I'm sure there is some kind of hacky way to do this with javascript rewriting the URLs of tabs dynamically before I initialize the tabs but I'm looking for a cleaner solution. Any ideas?

• How can I enable Pascal casing by default when using Jackson JSON in Spring MVC?

  I have a project that uses Spring MVC to create and handle multiple REST endpoints. I'm currently working on using Jackson to automatically handle the seralization/deserialization of JSON using the @RequestBody and @ResponseBody annotations. I have gotten Jackson working, so I've got a starting point. My problem is that our old serialization was done manually and used Pascal casing instead of Camel casing ("MyVariable" instead of "myVariable"), and Jackson does Camel casing by default. I know that I can manually change the name for a variable using @JsonProperty. That being said, I do not consider adding "@JsonProperty" to all of my variables to be a viable long-term solution. Is there a way to make Jackson use Pascal casing when serializing and deserializing other than using the @JsonProperty annotation?

  Hello, I'm currently building a web application. In one of it's key processes the application need to match short phrases to other similar ones available in the DB. The application needs to be able to match the phrase: Looking for a second hand car in good shape To other phrases which basically have the same meaning but use different wording, such as: 2nd hand car in great condition needed or searching for a used car in optimal quality The phrases are length limited (say 250 chars), user generated & unstructured. • Broken pipe error in rails with memcached

  I keep running into this error MemCacheError (Broken pipe): Broken pipe on my Rails app and I can't figure out why. When I access memcached via Rails.cache in my controller, the first 1 or 2 read/writes always seems to throw the broken pipe error. But when I access memcached by creating a new object, ActiveSupport::Cache::MemCacheStore.new, I don't seem to get this error. I also access memcached in another ruby process, and the first read always has this error regardless of the way I access memcached. I did implement a work around just by retrying the read but id rather have a better long term solution. Currently the only time I see this problem is after I restart memcached. I'm using Rails 2.3.5 and memcached 1.4.4 (I've also tried this with memcached 1.2.2).

  I would like to use WebKit's box-shadow css property for a little drop-down. The code would look like: .drop_down{ -webkit-box-shadow: 1px 1px 4px #888; box-shadow: 1px 1px 4px #888; } However, for browsers that do not have this capability, I would like to use borders to approximate this drop shadow, like so: .drop_down{ border-top: 1px solid #bbb; border-left: 1px solid #bbb; border-right: 2px solid #bbb; border-bottom: 2px solid #bbb; } The problem is, I don't want the border-based shadow to show up for the browsers that DO support box-shadow. I would like to avoid browser sniffing because I assume it's hard to cover all the cases. What is the simplest way to do this? I prefer a javascript-less solution, but I will consider simple javascript-based ones too.

  Hi I've been looking at this for a couple of hours now and haven't found a solution. Is there a way to upload a file using OAuth-Ruby? When I send a normal request, everything works but adding a file as a parameter makes the signature invalid. Example: @access_token.post("http://.../imageresource", {:name=>"awesome cat"}) works great but gives me: <error> <message>images/POST: Request has neither file data nor a fileUrl from which to download data</message> </error> Any thoughts on this? • dojo datagrid will make the page "jump" when sorting is changed

  Hi, I have a Dojo Datagrid in one of my pages (which contains more content) and the following problem occurs: As soon as I click on a column header to change the sorting, the page will jump up as if I clicked on some HTML-anchor. Funny enough, the page jump will make the grid show only the first two rows after it jumped, instead of (e.g.) have the grid start at the top of the page after the jump, which is the expected behaviour if an anchor is used. The problem occurs in different browsers (tested: Firefox 3.6, Opera 10, IE6), so I guess it might be a Dojo-problem/-bug. Any ideas to make this annoying behaviour stop? • How can you determine when the user scrolls to the bottom of a DataGridView?

  I am writing a C# Windows Forms Application in Visual Studio 2008. I have a DataGridView with a lot of data in it. I would like to initially only populate 10,000 rows and add more only when the user scrolls to the bottom. I am handling the DataGridView's Scroll event, but it never seems to raise with the ScrollEventArgs.Type property set to Last, which is the condition I think I need to catch to add more rows. I have read about people having bad experiences with the DataGridView.Scroll event (e.g. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/785200/datagridview-scroll-event-and-scrolleventtype-endscroll), but the solution provided (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/472389/how-can-i-receive-the-scroll-box-type-scroll-events-from-a-datagridview/767603#767603) only adds the ScrollEventArgs.Type property to come back as EndScroll, not Last like I need. Does anybody know how to get the event to raise properly, or another way to accomplish this task?

  Hello all, Can anyone explain why this query returns an empty result. SELECT * FROM (`bookmarks`) JOIN `tags` ON `tags`.`bookmark_id` = `bookmarks`.`id` WHERE `tag` = 'clean' AND `tag` = 'simple' In my bookmarks table, I have a bookmark with an id of 70 and in my tags table i have two tags 'clean' and 'simple' both that have the column bookmark_id as 70. I would of thought a result would have been returned? How can I remedy this so that I have the bookmark returned when it has a tag of 'clean' and 'simple'?   I have an object of type list from which I wish to use to populate a treeview in asp.net c#. Each object item has: id | Name | ParentId so for example: id | Name | ParentId 1 | Alice | 0 2 | Bob | 1 3 | Charlie | 1 4 | David | 2 In the above example, the parent would be Alice having two children Bob and Charlie. David is the child of Bob. I have had many problems trying to dynamically populate the treeview recursively in c# ASP.NET Does any one have a simple solution? Btw: you can use People.Id, People.Name and People.ParentId to access the members since it is an object belonging to list. I can post you my code so far (many attempts made) but not sure how useful it will be.

  How to use Binary Log file for Auditing in MySQL? I want to track the change in a DB using Binary Log so that I can replicate these changes to other DB please do not give me hyperlinks for MySQL website. please direct me to find the solution EDIT I have looked for auditing options and created a script using Triggers for that, but due toi the Joomla DB structure it did'nt worked for me, hence I have to move on to Binary Log file concept now i am stucked in initiating the concept as I am not getting the concept of making the server master/slave, so can any body guide me how to actually initiate it via PHP?
