• Easy way to replicate web page across machines?

  I am trying to replicate a browser page to another browser on another machine. I basically want to reproduce a page exactly how it appears to a customer for viewing by the website owner. I have done this before using some impersonation trickery, but found that it would throw the session state out of wack when the site owner would switch customers. So I would like to stay away from cookie and authentication manipulation. Anybody done anything like that? Is there a way to easily transfer the DOM to a webservice? The tech/programming at my disposal are C#, javascript, WCF.

  I have a school assignment, a Dog Show. My assignment is to create a website where vistors can display results and Judges and Secretary can admin, crud. I have a small problem one part of the assignment. The result should be based on two protokols from different judges and after that checked by the secretary before the result is displayed for the user. I have to say i'm fairly new to programming and so i need some smart suggestions on how to design and implement this. The assignment should cover both a db and c# (.net mvc). Q1: How do i create a object (result)that depends on two other objects(protocol)? Is that even needed? Q2: How to solve this in a relational db?

• which layout engine for finding coordinates of html elements on the web page?

  I am doing some web data classification task and was thinking if I could get the co-ordinates of html elements as they would appear on a web-browser without taking into consideration any css or javascript being referred in the web page. My language of programming is c++ and the need results for a couple million of pages, so it has to be fast. I know there is a Microsoft COM component which renders the page in a web browser control and then can be queried for position of different html tags. But this is not suitable in my case as it first renders the whole page which takes up a lot of time. So as I found out, there are open-source layout engines WebKit, Gecko that can probably be used for this. But that's a huge piece of code and I need someone to direct me to the right classes or right modules to look into or any previous/similar work someone has done previously. Also, please let me know what you guys think is a good choice if I want to customize the existing code for use with multiple threads to make it faster. Thanks

• Cuda program results are always zero in HW, correct in EMU??

  Hi all! I am having a weird problem .. I have written a CUDA code which executes correctly in emulation and all results show up.. however, when executed on hardware "G210" .. the results in the result memory are always 0 I am passing two vectors to the kernel, one with random variables the other is initialized to zero, the code copies the first vector to shared memory, does some swapping and other operations and then writes back the results on the second vector (the one with the initial 0's) I am using double precision, the -arch sm13 flag is used, all memory allocation also use sizeof(double) .. I have checked if the kernel is invoked, it does .. so no problems here .. the cudaMemCpy has no problems .. what could be the problem .. :( why would it work in emulation but not on HW I am quite confused .. any ideas?

  Hi all, My requirement is this. I am programmatically downloading a folder from a remote server in zipped format using WebClient. This part is done. My folder will have only DLLs and EXEs.   I have a blog that I would like to increase traffic on. I've read lots of technical blogs, but it's a lot different writing a blog versus reading a blog. There seems to be several ways to write a post. General article: I like this tool. This is how I do it. Specific technical issue: Programming solutions. I do get some traffic, but they don't leave any comments. Should I use HN and Reddit. What are some of the other places I can promote my blog? How to respond to negative comments (trolls)? • how to integrate Zend Framework MVC with existing site

  Hi guys, So I'm slowly tackling OO and Zend Framework and their MVC process in particular. I have an existing website and web-based calendar application that was designed by me, but coded by a different person and done procedurally. I understand that it will be very difficult for my application to ever be completely OO without a full re-write, and I'm fine with that. I have a lot of updates and modifications I want to do in the future, so I'm wanting to start replacing some of the basic components (login, authentication. etc) now, and continue to learn as I go. Again, I'm really a newbie at programming and OO. What I'm wondering is if I'm wanting to incorporate the Framework, then would I just first drop my whole site into the /public folder of the Framework and then start pulling functionality out from there?

• Include a unique URL in EXE

  Hi :) I want to give users of my site the ability to upload their software/hardware configuration automatically on Windows. So I'm thinking of having an EXE file download, and somehow put in that EXE a unique URL for each user. When the data is collected, the program would just posts some JSON to that URL. How can I do it? I'm most familiar with .NET platform. Tools like this do exist, for example Blizzard uses this approach for their beta test enroll. Each user downloads a slightly different EXE. TIA

• Touch event missing when pushing new view

  Hello, I am new in iPhone programming. At the moment I am trying to recognize a constant touch. For example I want the user to leave his finger on the screen for the whole application. I use a navigationcontroller which holds the different views. If the user now touches the screen in view1 and then the view is changed to view2 by pushing it on the stack (with pushviewcontroller) with still touching the screen then there are no touch events recognized by view2. If the user then releases his finger (no touch event) and touches the screen again then all events are recognized. Is this a bug or am I doing something totally wrong? I haven't found any answer on this. Could someone help me?

• How do I detect whether a browser supports mouseover events?

  Let's assume I have a web page which has some onmouseover javascript behaviour to drop down a menu (or something similar) Obviously, this isn't going to work on a touch device like the iPad or smartphones. How can I detect whether the browser supports hover events like onmouseover or onmouseout and the :hover pseudotag in CSS? Note: I know that if I'm concerned about this I should write it a different way, but I'm curious as to whether detection can be done. Edit: When I say, "supports hover events", I really mean, "does the browser have a meaningful representation of hover events". If the hardware supports it but the software doesn't (or vice versa), there's no meaningful representation. With the exception of some upcoming tech, I don't think any touch devices have a meaningful representation of a hover event.

  I've read lot of articles saying, that Java EE is most popular enterprise solution nowadays. Let's not argue if it is most popular or second most popular or what. The thing is : I see almost all web pages with extension like .html, .php and .aspx. Why there is (almost) none .JSP ? Why so ease to find ASP.NET pages if it is supposed to be less popular? Please I am not programming with Java EE (yet) so don't blame me, if I am completely wrong. The answer with patience would be greatly appreciated!

• Does HTML5 make Javascript gaming safer (more secure)?

  I know that Javascript is an incredibly unsecure way of programming a persistent game, where for instance you are doing battle calculations in an RPG and then award XP through linking to a PHP page when they win that adds XP to a database (since the player could make their own javascript to always win or just look at the PHP page that you get sent to when you win and just go there anyway). So with that said, I'm wondering if HTML5 makes multiplayer/persistent games any safer in this regard, since I know it still uses Javascript. Or am I still doomed to rely entirely on server-side scripting for doing any calculations that award the player?

• Will sharpening my sword eventually lead to it cutting my head off?

  Sharpening the sword: All I've read in the developer community suggests that I should keep learning and studying to become the best developer I can. This will make me better at my job and more valuable as an employee. Cutting my head off: However there seems to be an influx of cheap programming labor constantly coming int to the market(college, foreign countries, etc.) I was part of that influx when I graduated. So my question is, What is the likely outcome? Will there always be a job where a skilled-programmer(Grey-Beard) will have a place to work and contribute, or will he eventually price himself out of the market by having such great knowledge and skill?

• What is the best way to learn VB/VBA?

  I have wanted to learn VB and VBA for a long time. My school offers a coarse, but it doesn't fit with the rest of my schedule. It will be my first programing language. I was considering using the textbook my school uses (An introduction to programing using visual basic 2008, but I wold get the 2010 version), but I was wondering if there were better resources I could use. I mainly want to lean to learn VBA so I cam create macros and other tools for MS Word. • What should i do to practise?

  Hi guys I start a year long industrial placement in september where i will be coding in java predominantly. I am going to use the summer to brush up on my java as in year one of the degree java was the main language taught for OOP modules. However this year i have had no java exposure except for an algorithms module, which was one of eight, so as you can see i am probably getting really rusty!. What i wanted to know is, how does the "real world" java programming differ from university coding and what do you suggest i brush up on that would be different to my normal workings. As a start i definatley need to get familiar with a professional IDE like netbeans, opoosed to havign used BlueJ throughout but more specifically what coding practises should i get more familiar with I appreciate they wont expect me to be a qualified full developer and will give me time, but i would like to hit the ground running as it were, with me having full hopes to secure a perminant position after i finish my degree.   I am designing a simple peer to peer network. The basic architecture will be as follows: A central server- that keeps track of all the peers. The job of this server is to keep track of all the peers that join the network. Every peer could do things: a. Download a file from it's peer b. Push a file (send a file) to it's peer. Could anybody please tell me what would be the best design for such a system? What would be the problems that i might run into and so on. I am planning to use Java as the programming language to implement. Would it be a good choice? • Copying blocks (ie: copying them to instance variables) in Objective-C

  I'm trying to understand blocks. I get how to use them normally, when passed directly to a method. I'm interested now in taking a block, storing it (say) in an instance variable and calling it later. • How communicate with pty via minicom or screen?

  I am trying to provide an AT/Modem-like interface around some hardware. Follwing this post I have the server setting up a pty using openpty(). Now I can communicate with the server as expected with a client app that open the slave and communicates via read() and write() calls. However I would also like to be able to use either the screen command or minicom to issue commands by hand to the slave. However the server never seems to receive any data when trying to do this. Is there something significant I am missing with this approach?

  I download the Gurobi package for linear programming. I import the corresponding gurobi.jar package. Then run the example program. Then it appears the following errors: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: C:\gurobi460\win64\win64\bin\GurobiJni46.dll: Can't load AMD 64-bit .dll on a IA 32-bit platform Then I downloaded the window 64 bit Jre, and use the "window--preference--Installed JRE" to install this new JRE. However, it still appeared this error. Could you help me? Thank you !

• Has anybody managed to teach themself strong OOP skills through mainly developing with JavaScript?

  I am trying to do this, I'm a full time front-end dev and am aware that I am struglling to achieve this. When I am referring to OOP skills I am referring to understanding and being familiar with concepts like inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation, abstaction. I am aware that it may be more likely to achieve what I'm after by focusing on another language in my spare time. This is the plan, but I'd be really intrigued to hear if anybody has managed to achieve this purely through JavaScript and how you did it. It'd be even better to hear from strong OOP developers from who use different programming languages to know if they have worked with developers who have managed to achieve this.

• Any active Bold for Delphi users ?

  What are you using as a persistance framework when programming in Delphi? If the application is growing it soon became really complicated to handle the model in SQL ? Bold is a persistance framework for Delphi win32 that really deserve more attention. I use it daily and using OCL instead of SQL to get data from the database saves a lot of time and debugging. When the model is changed Bold translate this to an SQL script and change the database. EDIT: For those that are interested in Bold for Delphi I have spend this evening on create a site on Google about it. I'm not a guru in html so the design is maybe not so exciting. • Client / Server security from mobile to website

  Hey. Am new to the world of web programming and learning a bunch of fairly simple new pieces of tech, trying to piece them all together. So, we have a simple client (currently iPhone, to move to J2ME soon) that's pulling down lists of data via PHP, which is talking to a MySQL db. I have a rudimentary user/login system so that data is only served to someone who matches a known user etc, either on the website or on the client. All the php scripts on the website that query the DB check to make sure an active session is in place, otherwise dumping the user back to the login screen. I've read a little about SSL and want to know if that is sufficient to protect the website AND the data passing between the server and the client?
