Is there any way to prevent the display of unmatched xml tags using xslt?

Here is a contrived example of an xml document. In my real world case, the xml is fairly complex with multiple nested levels. <alphabet> <a>A</a> <b>B</b> <c>C</c> ... and so on </alphabet> Using xslt, I want to transform the document so that only the vowels are printed. In my real world case, we're using empty template match tags to block the display. But that's too verbose for my liking.

Is there any way to throw errors or warnings in a korn shell script to prevent the use of unset variables ? Let's assume I have a temporary folder that I want to remove. TEMP_FILES_DIR='/app/myapp/tmp' rm -Rf $TEMP_FILE_DIR #notice the misspelling How to prevent this kind of mistakes before they actually happen? I know the script should check for file existence and empty string before attempting to remove, this is just a silly example to illustrate a mistake that could have been avoided with some warnings. I don't know if this feature exists in ksh. If it does exist, how do you turn it on?

I have a table with several columns. Sometimes some of these column fields may be empty (ie. I won't use them in some cases). My questions: Would it be smart to set them to NULL in phpmyadmin? What does the "NULL" property actually do? Would I gain anything at all by setting them to NULL? Is it possible to use a NULL field the same way even though it is set to null?

Using Closure Properties to prove Regularity

Here's a homework problem: Is L_4 Regular? Let L_4 = L*, where L={0^i1^i | i>=1}. I know L is non-regular and I know that Kleene Star is a closed operation, so my assumption is that L_4 is non-regular. However my professor provided an example of the above in which L = {0^p | p is prime}, which he said was regular by proving that L* was equal to L(000* + e) by saying each was a subset of one another (e in this case means the empty word). So his method involved forming a regex of 0^p, but how I can do that when I essentially have one already?

Stubborn UIButton

I have a UIButton that is supposed to be disabled during certain phases. So, when this happens I do [myButton setEnabled:NO]; This is perfect because the button stays grayed and if clicked will not trigger its action, but... when the button is clicked even grayed, it enables again and a second click will trigger its actions (???????!!!!!!!!!!). How can that be? If the button is disabled it is supposed to be "part of the background", i.e., an image without any action. I have tried to make the button vanish using alpha but even if you click on the empty spot, it reappears after the first click and then can trigger actions after the second click... (????) Am I missing something?

strtotime fails for valid date

i am doing a project where i need to output date of orders. and i do the following inside a for loop <?php echo date('M d, Y g:i A',strtotime($order['Order']['created']));?> for some strange reason, sttotime returns false. (Dec 31, 1969 7:00 PM appears instead.) i made sure $order['Order']['created'] is not empty and is valid. even stranger, that exact same piece of code works fine on the other page, only different is that, that one is not in a loop. but that cant be the reason right? i set timezone to America/New_York and $order['Order']['created'] is mysql timestamp. var_dump on said variable string(27) "2010-06-16 20:12:51"

I have a ListView control set up in details mode, and on a button press I would like to retrieve all column values from that row in the ListView. phpMyAdmin Cron to Delete Temporary Files

I have a folder on my hosting which I periodically upload something to - /public_html/uploads - and I'd like to set up a cronjob through phpMyAdmin to empty it out on a regular basis. The current cron I have in pMA is find /public_html/uploads -maxdepth 1 -ctime 1 -exec rm -f {} \; (Ignore the fact that it's running every minute for now, it's so I can test it :) ) I know very little about what this command is actually doing, but it looks like "not very much". Can anyone help me fix it? :) Thanks.

jQuery success:function{} issue

I have several 'select' elements on the page. When I choose some of options, the ajax request is being sent to server and the element adjacent to this 'select' must be updated with response value. mysql inserts & updates optimized

This is an optimization question, mostly. I have many forms on my sites that do simple Inserts and Updates. (Nothing complicated) But, several of the form's input fields are not necessary and may be left empty. (again, nothing complicated) However, my SQL query will have all columns in the Statement. My question, is it best to optimize the Inserts/Update queries appropriately? And only apply the columns that are changed into the query? We all hear that we shouldn't use the "SELECT *" query, unless it's absolutely needed for displaying all columns. But what about Inserts & Updates? Hope this makes sense. I'm sure any amount of optimization is acceptable. But I never really hear about this, specifically, from anyone.

setting syntax on in vim with large C file makes complete very slow

when I have syntax on in a large C file (about 8000) lines the completion ctrl-p and ctrl-n are very slow (more than 20). When I turn syntax off then completion takes less than a second. Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks! EDIT: I figured out a minimal way of reproducing this behaviour: with an empty .vimrc and .vim folder the only changed settings are :set syntax on :set foldmethod=syntax and a large C file to edit, completion (and even general editing) becomes very very slow.

JQuery Remove() doesn't work

I have a DIV element inside another as follows: <div id="filters"> <div class="filterData">hello</div> </div> and I'm trying to remove the element: $("#filters").remove('.filterData'); Problem is, it doesn't. I've tested on other elements on my page and it works. The thing is, I cannot append to it, show or hide it, use .empty. I've also changed it to be a DIV with 'filterData' as the ID and told JQuery to remove it but it refuses to... Has anyone had a stuborn element like this before? EDIT: I'm also trying to remove it inside a $(document).ready function so I have no idea.

This is my first time using StackOverflow. I tried using BufferedReader, and BufferReader.readLine() return null.

How to rate a connect four game situation in java

Hey, I am trying to write a simple AI for a "Get four" game. The basic game principles are done, so I can throw in coins of different color, and they stack on each other and fill a 2D Array and so on and so forth. until now this is what the method looks like: public int insert(int x, int color) //0 = empty, 1=player1 2=player2" X is the horizontal coordinate, as the y coordinate is determined by how many stones are in the array already, I think the idea is obvious. Now the problem is I have to rate specific game situations, so find how many new pairs, triplets and possible 4 in a row I can get in a specific situation to then give each situation a specific value. With these values I can setup a "Game tree" to then decide which move would be best next (later on implementing Alpha-Beta-Pruning). My current problem is that I can't think of an efficient way to implement a rating of the current game situation in a java method. An exception to the "only one implementation" rule ?

While I was reading the accepted answer of this question, I had the following question: Typically, methods are defined in header files (.hpp or whatever), and implementation in source files (.cpp or whatever). One of the main reasons it is bad practice to ever include a "source file" (#include <source_file.cpp>) is that its methods implementation would then be duplicated, resulting in linking errors. When one writes: #ifndef BRITNEYSPEARS_HPP #define BRITNEYSPEARS_HPP class BritneySpears { public: BritneySpears() {}; // Here the constructor has implementation. }; #endif /* BRITNEYSPEARS_HPP */ He is giving the implementation of the constructor (here an "empty" implementation, but still). But why then including this header file multiple times (aka. on different source files) will not generate a "duplicate definition" error at link time ?

Checking for null : if (termStore.Groups[groupName] == null) seems like a logical (clean) approach, but if the Groups collection is empty then an exception is produced. using the termStore.Groups.Contains is not an option either because this expects a strong type i.e: .Contains(Group)... not .Contains(GroupName as string) Can someone recommend a clean / generic way I can check for if an item exists in collection . SvcUtil and /dconly generates XSD's for data types NOT marked with the DataContract attribute.

Has anyone ever encountered a problem with Svcutil and the /dconly option where it generates metadata for EVERY data type in an Assembly, even if it is NOT marked with with the [DataContract()] attribute? It also appears to be generating metadata for types only referenced in the code, such as XmlDictionaryReaderQuotas even though these are not a part of the physical assembly that I generated metadata on. Some info: Using the .NET 4.0 version of SvcUtil. Does not matter if class is empty or not. No references are specified in the command line for SvcUtil. How can I not render a button in my view if a given property off my model has no value?

I'm new to web development. In my view, I want to conditionally show a button if Model.TemplateLocation (which is a string) is not null or empty. I was told to look into @style = "display:none" somehow. Could that be what I need?
