• MySQL Accept Any Password

  Suppose that I have a test server with a large group of test accounts. The test accounts have unknown passwords which are hard-coded into the application's reports and are stored encrypted in the mysql.users table. Is there any option or hack which can be used to make mysql accept any text as the "correct" password for an account? For example: Update mysql.user Set Password="*" where 1=1 Note: The above line wouldn't work because it would literally set the password to "*" and not the wildcard character. However, I am looking for a way to create a mysql account which would accept anything as a valid password. This machine is disconnected from the network and I have full access to the mysql database...

• VSS Analyze - Access to file [filename] is denied

  Our VSS database appears to be horribly out of shape. I've been trying to archive and run "analyze" and keep getting "Access to file [filename] is denied. The file may be read-only, may be in use, or you may not have permission to write to the file. Correct this problem and run analyze again." No one is logged into SourceSafe (including myself) and I'm running the analyze utility from the VS command prompt as follows: analyze -v -f -bbackuppath databasepath I get similar errors if I try and create project archives from the ssadmin tool. The database is on a network share, and we're running VSS 2005 v8.0.50727.42. I'd love to be able to do this, as it would be a first step in a move away from VSS. Thanks in advance. More Info Every time I run analyze, the file that spawns the access denied message changes. It's almost as if running analyze unlocks that file so that the next time I get through to the next one.

The current connection string I'm using in my web.config file is: <add name="AdventureWorksConnectionString2" connectionString="Data Source=SIDEKICK;Initial Catalog=AdventureWorks;Persist Security Info=false; " providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> When I select Basic Authentication it pops up the warning: "The authentication option you have chosen results in passwords being sent over the network without data encryption..." How do I choose this authentication method and still send passwords over securely? So essentially I am looking for the most secure authentication method but that still requires users to input password?

• Intent flags to Login page redirect, killing previous Activities

  Basically I have a Service that at some points it will sync with the network in order to check if the token is still valid. if it isn't, it should redirect to the login screen (from the service) and if the user press the back button, it should NOT show the previous Activity but instead exit the app. I'm not asking how to hack onBackPressed, I already know how to do it. I'm asking how to accomplish this using the intent flags. So far I have tried the following: intent.setFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP | Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK); Using the FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK is mandatory because I'm calling startActivity() from a service (or at least thrown exception told me so), and using FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP cause it was supposed to remove all previous activities from the stack, leaving only the new one. The issue is if I press back, I am still able to go to the previous Activity, which makes me think the combination of both flags are clearing the activities in the NEW task, not in the previous one I might be wrong on the reason, but it doesn't work. • What is the fastest way to write hundreds of files to disk using C#?

  My program should write hundreds of files to disk, received by external resources (network) each file is a simple document that I'm currently store it with the name of GUID in a specific folder but creating hundred files, writing, closing is a lengthy process. Is there any better way to store these amount of files to disk? I've come to a solution, but I don't know if it is the best. First, I create 2 files, one of them is like allocation table and the second one is a huge file storing all the content of my documents. But reading from this file would be a nightmare; maybe a memory-mapped file technique could help. Could working with 30GB or more create a problem?

• Java: How do I get the IP of the local interface that can reach a remote IP?

  I have a Java application that registers a server component in a service provider, and then sends the service name to a client. The client uses the service name to get an address out of the service provider to the server. However, the server has several interfaces only 1 of which the client get get at, so the service must be registered with the right IP. We discovered the client through a broadcast, so I have the client IP and an Enumeration of the computers network interfaces. How do I match the IP to an interface, not knowing what the netmask of the client IP is? Spontaneously I imagine turning all the addresses to ints and chomping the local ips with their netmask and looking for a 'best match', but I wonder if there is a better way? (this is an enterprise(tm) solution, so cutting out the service provider isn't an option, at least not w/o a political campaign first ;) )

  I recently encountered an IOError writing to a file on NFS. There wasn't a disk space or permission issue, so I assume this was just a network hiccup. The obvious solution is to wrap the write in a try-except, but I was curious whether the implementation of print and write in Python make either of the following more or less likely to raise IOError: f_print = open('print.txt', 'w') print >>f_print, 'test_print' f_print.close() vs. f_write = open('write.txt', 'w') f_write.write('test_write\n') f_write.close() (If it matters, specifically in Python 2.4 on Linux).

• How to connect android application running on a device to a local web application?

  I have my droid device connected through USB and using Eclipse for debugging my application running on the device. Everything is fine, except my application needs to connect to a web application running on the same host computer (Windows XP, IE). The web address on the IE was "http://local:4566/MyApp/". I tried to set my android app to "http://10.0.2.2:4566/MyApp", but no luck. The android app's connection simply times out. The document under http://developer.android.com/guide/developing/tools/emulator.html says that the ip address may be different for devices (see Network Address Space section) but no further details on how to find that. Question is, how to I connect to a local web application running on my host computer (windows xp) from an Android application connected through USB running debug under Eclipse? • Do programmable Ethernet devices (think onboard CPU) really exist?

  I've heard from various people that programmable Ethernet cards exist and are easily available. However I have yet to be able to track down one of these mythical devices so I'm wondering if they're just that - a myth. Such a programmable card has a gigabit Ethernet interface, has a programmable CPU and connects to the host system via PCI Express. The problem area these cards address are low latency network applications where the card itself does the work and "reports back" to the operating system. Basically the card acts as a co-processor and handles all the low latency requirements on the card, thus avoiding the issues of writing low latency code in user-land - think 0.4ms - 0.5ms response times. So my question is, do these cards really exist and if so, where can I get my hands on one?

  I have two servers, server1 and server2 on same network but require username and password to be mapped. server1 has a text file as C:\Users\output.txt. I want to create and schedule a batch script on server1, which should copy and replace output.txt file from server1 to server2 at path E:\data\output.txt on daily basis. I don't want to map server2 manually every time I start my computer nor do I want to enter my username and password each time. • Communication between .net winform and webform

  Hi, I need to make a webform communicate with a winform and back to the webform. The reason for this is it exists a webform software already made, and now it's needed the behavior of a .net component only available for winforms. We've tried going with Process.Start and shell.execute but with this approach the software hangs or it takes too long to respond. The webform also needs to be called from client pcs in the network, I think this adds another problem due to the non possibility of calling the execution of a file from a webform remotelly, but I dont know much about this technical issue we've read some articles about embedding a winform in a webform, sending data from a winform to a webform, etc. and we would like to know what's the recommend approach (if there is any) for handdling a situation like this.

• Blackberry wifi connection issue

  Hi all, I have a very strange issue with my blackberry application. My application first searches for a blackberry network ( ;interface=wifi , ;deviceside=true , ;deviceside=false" + ";ConnectionUID="+ myRecord.getUid() ) transport and after finding one, it uses it to connect the server application. The issue is that some of my web services consumed by the bb client applicaton does not work when the connection type is wifi. Example: I have a series of web services called one after the other, login , x , y ,z, and logout. The connection transport selected = WIFI Login and LogOfff works fine but x, y and z web services return me an error message. The same series of web services ( Login, x,y,z, Log Out,) works with other connection transports ( eg. ap2trans) . Please help me with this issue as connecting to wifi ( if available ) is important for the application. Pleaes provide even the smallest info in this regad. thanks in advance

• Detect when home button is pressed iOS

  I have several iOS apps that all use the same port to listen for a network beacon. On the main view I use viewWillDisappear to close the port when another view is opened, which was working great. Then I noticed if I pressed the home button from the main view controller without opening another view to close the port, then the port stays open and non of my other apps can listen on that port any more. I then tried using viewWillUnload, but that doesn't seem to get called when I press the home button. -(void)viewWillUnload { //[super viewWillUnload]; NSLog(@"View will unload"); [udpSocket close]; udpSocket = nil; } View will unload is never displayed in the console, which leads me to believe that the method is never getting called. Is there a way to detect when the home button is pressed so I can close my port?

What has not made sense still is the lack of CallBack functions in SocketChannels.. Like one finds in C#. • Redrawing content of UIWebView

  I have a bunch of webviews with static html content that I'm putting in a scroll view as pages. That works fine, but having 20 something full screen subviews of the scroll view is causing some lag. I solved that by only placing 5 at a time in there. The current view, and the two next and two previous. The problem now is that any web view that is not a subview of the scroll view is not drawing correctly based on the device orientation. The frame of the webview is printing out correct, but the actual content is drawing in portrait mode. So there is essentially a strip of blank space to the right of the content. How do I go about re rendering the content without reloading the page? Adding references to the project by right clicking on the References in the porject and choosing add reference is a pain. so I was wondering if I can take advantage of something like what I posted the link to it and have a small program,add-in,macro, etc! that we can give it a list of the references that I want and it will add them to the project.

  Because of security reasons, we will not be able to use IIS on our local machines. I'm sure that many of you have faced the same problem, so how did you solve it? Here are the options that we're looking at: Create a VLAN that is isolated from the network for development. This will allow us to use any software, including IIS, that we want. A disadvantage is testing Web services with external organizations, which can be overcome by using stubs. Not use a VLAN and use only the ASP.NET Development Server that comes with Visual Studio, and then deploying that code to the development server. This has the disadvantage of not being able to replicate the production environment during local development. In addition, at least one developer needs IIS for GIS development, so he couldn't develop locally. Thank you for comments or suggestions that you may have!

• How to read system information in C++ on Windows and Linux?

  I need to read system information like CPU/RAM/disks usage in C++. Maybe swap, network and process too but that's less important. It has probably been done thousand of times before so I first tried to search for a library. Someone here suggested SIGAR, which seems to fit my needs but it has a GPL license and it is for inclusion in a proprietary product. So it's not an option here. I feel like it's something not that easy to implement, as it'll need testing on several platforms. So a library would be welcome. If you don't know of any library, could you point me in the right direction for both platforms?

  I'm building a simple client-server chat system. The clients send data to the server and the server resends the data to all the other clients. I'm using the TcpListener and Network stream classes to send the data between the client and the server. The fields I need to send are, for example: name, text, timestamp, etc. I separate them using the ASCII character 29. I'm also using ASCII character 30 to mark the end of the streamed data. The data is encoded with UTF8.. Is this a good approach? Will I run into problems? Are there better methods? UPDATE: Probably my question was misunderstood, so I explain it better.. However, when running a web service/web site in Visual Studio it can only be accessed by that machine. So what I want to do is point IIS at my project's bin/debug folder, thus exposing my dev environment to my local network. I know this is possible because my work machine is set up this way, I just don't know how it is done. How do I configure IIS to load a web app from the debug directory of my Visual Studio project?
