• Download Firefox 3.6.4 Build 4 (Beta)

  Firefox has released its latest version 3.6.4 as beta. User who has already installed Firefox 3.6.4  can use the update check option in the browser will recognize to download it automatically,so that the browser can be updated. You can also download the latest beta version from the direct link (Firefox 3..6.4) of Mozilla website with the option to select the language and operating system version. As the per the release note from Mozilla this build works on the out of process plug-in module for Adobe Flash, Apple QuickTime or Microsoft Silver light plug-in, so that If a plug-in crashes or freezes, it will not affect the rest of Firefox. You will be able to reload the page to restart the plug-in and try again. The release note also states that many of the security issues and and total of 194 issues from the BugZilla list is fixed.   The new roadmap of Windows Embedded has been announced, this is great news for anyone that wants to use Windows Embedded technologies in her/his device. Roadmaps are usually stuff for marketing people, but as a technician is important to know that you are basing your product on a system that is going to be supported for some years and that you can evolve it and will not have to re-design it completely to change its OS (unless this proves to be more convenient, of course!).   I have always liked how SfTS works, and the functionality it offers.  In an earlier assessment I wrote of their toolset, the only issue I had encountered was the migration of environment that had been created and worked on for a while in the TFS 2008 world using SfTS 2.0 to the TFS 2010 SfTS 3.0.  There were several elements (Work Items and such) that were not moving correctly. Anyway, that is now in the past! Congratulations to Crispin Parker and Team for the release of the Migration Tool. • Suggestions on managing social media accounts

  As a company we now have Facebook, LinkedIN, Twitter and now Google+, is there a way to easily manage all these accounts without having to log into them individually? Things like posting content to each one is becoming a full time job in itself, is there a way to post once that in turn posts to all other accounts? I used to use http://ping.fm/ a long time ago, has there been any advancements in something similar to this? With friend lists, news feeds etc etc for each one, I wish there was a way to manage them all in one place with a service/tool!

• Donald Ferguson says end-user programming is next big thing. Is it?

  You can guess how I came to ask this question... Anyway : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-11944966 Donald Ferguson claiming that his websphere was his biggest disaster and proclaiming that end-user programming will be the way forward. This genuinely spurs the question : what with current programming languages. Honestly, I don't think that end-user programming will go much beyond a rather rigid template where you can build some apps around. If you see how many people actually manage to understand the basic functionality of functions in EXCEL... Plus, I fail to see how complex and performant systems can be built in such an end-user programming language ( Visual Basic, anyone?) Nice to play around with, but for many applications they're just not the thing. So no worries for the old languages if you ask me. What's your ideas?

  Twitter the micro blogging site crossed the ten billions milestone on 4th of this month as per the report by GigaTweet (Site which tracks the number of tweets posted on twitter) The person who sent the 10 billionth tweet is still unknown as his profile is protected. But the 9,999,999,999th tweet was sent by one Rafaela Marques from Brazil. AS you can see GigaTweet expects just another 196 days to reach the 20 billionth marks if tweet continues with the current pace. Some of the interesting statics about rate in which people tweeted every year 2007 – 5000 tweets per day 2008 – 300,000 tweets per day 2009 – 2.5 million per day It reached an average of 35 million tweets per day by end  2009. • R2 and Idera Idera SQL Safe (Freeware Edition)

  Good news: the Freeware edition of Idera SQL Safe works on R2. You might not care but I certainly do. Here's why:  In September last year I started using Idera SQL Safe (the Freeware Edition) to get backup compression on my SQL 2005 servers. It seemed like a good idea at the time - it was free and my backups ran much faster and took up much less disk space. I really thought I'd actually scored a free lunch. Until they discontinued the product. I was thinking about what to do when I heard that R2 Standard would include native backup compression so I've just been keeping my fingers crossed since then. So I installed R2 Developer on my laptop, installed SQL Safe and kicked off a restore with it. No problem. Phew! Now I won't have to do a special, non-compressed backup and restore when we migrate.

• Making profit - Adsense contains too many stopwords

  I was thinking of using Adsense, but after I've read about the stopwords policy... Too many words are banned: "a**, s**t, id**t, a****le, bu****it," etc.. That generally means that I cannot use Adsense, unless I edit my posts. How else would I go about making some profit out of my site? I don't want to use things like popups, text-link ads, I can't post many shoplinks, and my site is too small to sell adspace. For specific reasons, I also don't do videos, am not planning on starting a forum or premium content, or anything very close to what's in this sentence. The reason for this post is basically the fact that I've seen sites without any ads, huge sites, and I started to wonder: how do they make money? That was Gizmodo to be precise. Some info about my site: It's a blog where I review games and post news. There is no forum, no registration.

• SQL Server Data Tools–BI for Visual Studio 2013 Re-released

  Customers used to complain that the tooling for creating BI projects (Analysis Services MD and Tabular, Reporting Services, and Integration services) has been based on earlier versions of Visual Studio than the ones they were using for their other work in Visual Studio (such as C#, VB, and ASP.NET projects). To alleviate that problem, the shipment of those tools has been decoupled from the shipment of the SQL Server product. In SQL Server 2014, the BI tooling isn’t even included in the released version of SQL Server. This allows the team to keep up-to-date with the releases of Visual Studio. A little while back, I was really pleased to see that the Visual Studio 2013 update for SSDT-BI (SQL Server Data Tools for Business Intelligence) had been released.
