• iPhone rotation woes

  I have been spending many frustrating hours trying to get rotations working on the iPhone version of Tunepal. Firstly, I have a tab bar controller, with a navigation controller controlling each of the views. I actually only want one of my views to be able to rotate and that is the TuneDisplay. I have a subclassed the UITabBarController and overridden theshouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation: (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation) interfaceOrientation { if (self.selectedViewController != nil) { return [self.selectedViewController shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:interfaceOrientation]; } else { return (interfaceOrientation == UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait); } } In each of the view controllers for each of the tabs I have overridden the method and returned YES for each orientation I want to support. All well and good and everything works as it should. If I try and do a rotation on a tab that doesn’t support the rotation, nothing happens. The problem occurs if I move from a tab thats rotated to a tab that isnt supposed to support that rotation. The new tab is displayed rotated too! I have tried the unsupported setOrientation trick, but firstly it doesnt work correctly and secondly I received a warning from Apple for including it in my last build. If (as I suspect) there is no way to limit this behavior: How do I make the microphone image scale when I rotate the device? How do I make the buttons and the progress bar expand to fit the witdh of the toolbar? Also, one of the tabs that rotates ok has a table, with a search bar. The first time I rotate to the right or to the left, I get a black bar to the right of the search bar. If I subsequently rotate back and rotate again, the bar disappears! I have enabled the struts and springs things on the search bar in the interface builder and it looks like it should behave correctly. Any ideas about how to fix this? • How can I improve this SQL to avoid several problems with its results?

  I am having some problems with trying to search. Currently this will only return results that have at least 1 row in the maintenance_parts table. I would like it to return results even if there are 0 parts rows. My second problem is that when you search for a vehicle and it should return multiple results (multiple maintenance rows) it will only return 1 result for that vehicle. Some Background Info: The user has 2 fields to fill out. The fields are vehicle and keywords. The vehicle field is meant to allow searching based on the make, model, VIN, truck number (often is 2 - 3 digits or a letter prefix followed by 2 digits), and a few other fields that belong to the truck table. The keywords are meant to search most fields in the maintenance and maintenance_parts tables (things like the description of the work, parts name, parts number). The maintenance_parts table can contain 0, 1, or more rows for each maintenance row. The truck table contains exactly 1 row for every maintenance row. A truck can have multiple maintenance records. • Is there a maximum number of input controls that can be used on an HTML form?

  I have an ambitious requirement for an asp.net 2.0 web page that contains a table (gridview), and each row in the grid contains 6 select (dropdown) controls for data entry. The number of rows that will be displayed is dependent upon the user's search parameters, which are specified in another area of the page. Unfortunately, with the default (and even basic) search parameters specified, the grid could contain several hundred rows. I've noticed that the browser, in this case IE8, starts behaving rather erratically once I reach a large number of rows -- no documented evidence for the number of rows where this begins to be a problem. For example, trying to view the source of the page results in a message from IE stating that there was a problem with the page that forced the browser to reload it, and I never get the source. Obviously the page loads and renders rather slowly also. I know that my solution is probably going to involve paging the gridview such that it only displays 20 or so rows per page, and I'll have to write code to handle the saving of changes in the dropdown values when the user changes pages. I can probably turn off viewstate on the gridview also. However, the question I really want to pose is this -- has anyone seen a documented rule indicating the maximum number of input controls that an HTML browser form is supposed to be able to contain? I could not find anything on the Internet after doing a search, and I suspect the answer may be whatever the browser can handle based on the machine configuration it is running on.   I'm having great difficulty trying to find how to simply get the text of one specific item in a ComboBox. I have cmbSelectedHinge as a dropdownlist style. All I need is to know what the text is in position 0. I would have thought simply: MsgBox(cmbSelectHinge.Items.IndexOf(0)) but no. It returns "-1" even though there is a line of text in it. It seems this question has never before been asked on the internet, and there's no useful information on MSDN. Any help, please

  I am currently building my own CMS for various reasons that could take a long to explain... However i am looking for a dynamic solution to create templates for pages within the CMS and all areas must be editable via the administration area, maybe large text areas broken into multiple areas, text and image area on a page etc. Following on from the above i would like to create the following: Create a new page (selecting a pre-defined template like below) http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/9872/nestedpages.png and then upon editing the page it would have created as many text editors required for each editable region or a file upload control for an image area for example. i am thinking of using nested masterpages for the design elements, just unsure the best-practice way to achieve the above (db structure etc) I somehow hope this provides enough information but are happy to answer any questions you may have.   Pretty much all the text that I have read on enabling Hindi (Complex Text Rendering) involve enabling it via Regional Settings Languages Install files for complex script support and left to right languages (including Thai). However, I am able to read Wikipedia without having this feature enabled. Is this normal or is this an anomaly with my Win XP SP1 CD?

  I am a little confused about the auto-increment id field in rails. I have a rails project with a simple schema. When i check the development.sqlite3 I can see that all of my tables have an id field with auto increment. CREATE TABLE "messages" ("id" INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT NOT NULL, "text" text, "created_at" datetime, "updated_at" datetime); but when i call Message.new on the console, the resulting object has an id of nil >> a = Message.new => #<Message id: nil, text: nil, created_at: nil, updated_at: nil> shouldn't the id come back populated?

• Having trouble applying style to SVG using JavaScript upon object creation

  Hi, I have a function which creates an SVG text object using JavaScript. As soon as the object is created, I want it to have the style attribute which in CSS would be text-anchor: left. Currently, it doesn't work. I have tried many variations, and I also read that when using styles in JavaScript you must remove any '-' dashes and format the attribute name in camel casing (is this true?). • A non-ugly way to persist dialog contents across orientation changes?

  So I have a managed AlertDialog with a number of EditTexts & separate portrait + landscape layouts. The user opens the dialog in portrait mode, enters some text and then all of a sudden decides to pop out the keyboard. Now, I need to remove the dialog and recreate it for the changed layout persisting the text entered. What I can think of is getting references to the EdiTexts in onPrepareDialog(..), then getting the actual text in onConfigurationChanged(..), then removing the dialog, then showing it again, then populating it. Rather ugly, huh? Are there any better options?

• Is it possible to change or override the default keyboard shortcuts in Finder?

  I would like to override the keyboard-shortcut for a particular built-in action in finder (OS X 10.6.7). An example would be to override the Cmd+N for a New Finder Window to some other action, say Open a blank Text document. I can create the service for opening a blank Text document in automator - and I can map a new keyboard shortcut for this - but the new keyboard shortcut will not override a default keyboard shortcut. I do not want to install any 3rd party applications (like QuickSilver).

  I'm using a combo box to select an item from a list of 25 items. The selected item is input in a text box in a comma delimited string. It is updating a list view and showing each item separately by breaking the comma delimited string. The text box is not visible to users but doing the work in back end. Now I want to remove any item from list view and want it so that the text box containing the comma delimited string should also change and remove that item from the string. Is it possible?

  In my native C+ Win32 GUI application I have a property sheet with two property pages. One of the property pages contains an edit box: EDITTEXT IDC_EDIT_ID,x,y,width,height,ES_MULTILINE | ES_READONLY | NOT WS_BORDER | WS_VSCROLL | WS_HSCROLL | NOT WS_TABSTOP,WS_EX_STATICEDGE I set a multiline text to this edit box. The text has more lines than the edit can fit, so some of the text is clipped and a vertical scroll bar appears. When I scroll up with the mouse the lines that come "from under clip area" are drawn as garbage - it looks like first one line is drawn, then some other line is drawn on the same place without first painting the background. The lines that just move up - ones that were visible before scrolling and remain visible after scrolling are displayed allright. What's the reason and workaround for this behavior?

• matlab: putting a circled number onto a graph

  I want to put a circled number on a graph as a marker near (but not on) a point. Sounds easy, but I also want to be invariant of zoom/aspect ratio changes. Because of this invariant, I can't draw a circle as a line object (without redrawing it upon rescale); if I use a circle marker, I'd have to adjust its offset upon rescale. The simplest approach I can think of is to use the Unicode or Wingdings characters ① ② ③ etc. in a string for the text() function. But unicode doesn't seem to work right, and the following sample only works with ① and not for the other numbers (which yield rectangle boxes): works: clf; text(0.5,0.5,char(129),'FontName','WingDings') doesn't work (should be a circled 2): clf; text(0.5,0.5,char(130),'FontName','WingDings') What gives, and can anyone suggest a workaround?

  How do I achieve this:- When user types character like 'abcd' and then '>'(an invalid character for my application), I want to set the text back to 'abcd'. Better if we can cancel the input itself as we do in winforms application. This should happen when user is typing and not on a click of button. • setText() without calling onTextChanged()

  Is there a way I can set text to an EditTextView, but not trigger its onTextChanged() or afterTextChanged(). In onTextChanged(), I am making a server call to get autocompletes. But once the user selects from the dropdown, I want to set text to the EditTextView, but it again calls the server and shows the dropdown. While I can have a flag not to make server call when selected from dropdown, using the onItemClick() on dropdown(ListView). How can I remove the flag again, if the user tried to edit the text later.

• How to make a searchable PDF document from a scan AND a source Word document?

  Well, I have a scanned PDF with some slightly changes made by hand and a source file. I wish to make a PDF, which would be searchable (based on the text from the source, the changes would remain as they are). I am searching a free (and even better - portable) software which would allow me to somehow "combine" the images from a scan and the text from the source DOC file. So it SEEMS like the image is selectable and searchable.
