• How do I correctly install dulwich to get hg-git working on Windows?

  I'm trying to use the hg-git Mercurial extension on Windows (Windows 7 64-bit, to be specific). I have Mercurial and Git installed. I have Python 2.5 (32-bit) installed. I followed the instructions on http://hg-git.github.com/ to install the extension. The initial easy_install failed because it was unable to compile dulwich without Visual Studio 2003. I installed dulwich manually by: git clone git://git.samba.org/jelmer/dulwich.git cd dulwich c:\Python25\python setup.py --pure install Now when I run easy_install hg-git, it succeeds (since the dulwich dependency is satisfied). In my C:\Users\username\Mercurial.ini, I have: [extensions] hgext.bookmarks = hggit = When I type 'hg' at a command prompt, I see: "* failed to import extension hggit: No module named hggit" Looking under my c:\Python25 folder, the only reference to hggit I see is Lib\site-packages\hg_git-0.2.1-py2.5.egg. Is this supposed to be extracted somewhere, or should it work as-is? Since that failed, I attempted the "more involved" instructions from the hg-git page that suggested cloning git://github.com/schacon/hg-git.git and referencing the path in my Mercurial configuration. I cloned the repo, and changed my extensions file to look like: [extensions] hgext.bookmarks = hggit = c:\code\hg-git\hggit Now when I run hg, I see: * failed to import extension hggit from c:\code\hg-git\hggit: No module named dulwich.errors. Ok, so that tells me that it is finding hggit now, because I can see in hg-git\hggit\git_handler.py that it calls from dulwich.errors import HangupException That makes me think dulwich is not installed correctly, or not in the path. Update: From Python command line: import dulwich yields Import Error: No module named dulwich However, under C:\Python25\Lib\site-packages, I do have a dulwich-0.5.0-py2.5.egg folder which appears to be populated. This was created by the steps mentioned above. Is there an additional step I need to take to make it part of the Python "path"?

• How can I make an AdvancedDataGrid re-display its labels when the results of the labelFunction chang

  I have an AdvancedDataGrid with a custom label function whose value can change based on other form status (specifically, there's a drop down to choose the time display format for some columns). Right now, I have this labelFunction: internal function formatColumnTime(item: Object, column: AdvancedDataGridColumn): String { var seconds: Number = item[column.dataField]; return timeFormat.selectedItem.labelFunction(seconds); } internal function formatTimeAsInterval(time: Number): String { if (isNaN(time)) return ""; var integerTime: int = Math.round(time); var seconds: int = integerTime % 60; integerTime = integerTime / 60; var minutes: int = integerTime % 60; var hours: int = integerTime / 60; return printf("%02d:%02d:%02d", hours, minutes, seconds); } internal function formatTimeAsFractions(time: Number): String { if (isNaN(time)) return ""; var hours: Number = time / 3600.0; return new String(Math.round(hours * 100) / 100); } ... and the timeFormat object is a combo box with items whose labelFunction attributes are formatTimeAsFractions and formatTimeAsInterval. The columns that have time formats have formatColumnTime as their labelFunction value, because extracting the seconds in that function and passing it in to the formatters made for a more testable app (IMHO). So, when the timeFormat.selectedItem value changes, I want to force my grid to re-calculate the labels of these colums. What method must I call on it? invalidateProperties() didn't work, so that's out.

• Posting messages in two RabbitMQ queue, instead of one (using py-amqp)

  I've got this strange problem using py-amqp and the Flopsy module. I have written a publisher that sends messages to a RabbitMQ server, and I wanted to be able to send it to a specified queue. On the Flopsy module that is not possible, so I tweaked it adding a parameter and a line to declare the queue on the init_ method of the Publisher object def __init__(self, routing_key=DEFAULT_ROUTING_KEY, exchange=DEFAULT_EXCHANGE, connection=None, delivery_mode=DEFAULT_DELIVERY_MODE, queue=DEFAULT_QUEUE): self.connection = connection or Connection() self.channel = self.connection.connection.channel() self.channel.queue_declare(queue) # ADDED TO SET UP QUEUE self.exchange = exchange self.routing_key = routing_key self.delivery_mode = delivery_mode The channel object is part of the py-amqplib library The problem I've got it's that, even if it's sending the messages to the specified queue, it's ALSO sending the messages to the default queue. AS in this system we expect to send quite a lot of messages, we don't want to stress the system making useless duplicates... I've tried to debug the code and go inside the py-amqplib library, but I'm not able figure out any error or lacking step. Also, I'm not able to find any documentation form py-amqplib outside the code. Any ideas on why is this happening and how to correct it?

  Hi, I have console application. In that i have some process that fetch the data from database through different layers ( business and Data access). stores the fetched data in respective objects. Like if data is fetched for student then this data will store (assigned ) to Student object. same for school. and them a delegate call the certain method that generates outputs as per requirement. This process will execute many times say 10 times. Ok? I want to run simultaneously this process. not one will start, it will finish and then second will start. I want after starting 1'st process, just 2'nd , 3rd....10'th must be start. Means it should be multithreading. how can i achieve this ? is that will give me error while connection with data base open and close ? I have tried this concept . but when thread 1'st is starting then data will fetched for thread 1 will stored in its respective (student , school) objects. ok? when simultaneous 2'nd thread starts , but the data is changing of 1'st object ,while control flowing in program. What have to do?

• R: dev.copy2pdf, multiple graphic devices to a single file, how to append to file?

  Hi everybody, I have a script that makes barplots, and opens a new window when 6 barplots have been written to the screen and keeps opening new graphic devices whenever necessary. Depending on the input, this leaves me with a potential large number of openened windows (graphic devices) which I would like to write to a single PDF file. Considering my Perl background, I decided to iterate over the different graphics devices, printing them out one by one. I would like to keep appending to a single PDF file, but I do not know how to do this, or if this is even possible. I would like to avoid looping in R. :) The code I use: for (i in 1:length(dev.list()) { dev.set(which = dev.list()[i] dev.copy2pdf(device = quartz, file = "/Users/Tim/Desktop/R/Filename.pdf") } However, this is not working as it will overwrite the file each time. Now is there an append function in R, like there is in Perl. Which allows me to keep adding pages to the existing pdf file? Or is there a way to contain the information in a graphic window to a object, and keep adding new graphic devices to this object and finally print the whole thing to a file? Other possible solutions I thought about: writing different pdf files, combining them after creation (perhaps even possible in R, with the right libraries installed?) copying the information in all different windows to one big graphic device and then print this to a pdf file.

• Can I trigger PHP garbage collection to happen automatically if I have circular references?

  I seem to recall a way to setup the __destruct for a class in such a way that it would ensure that circular references would be cleaned up as soon as the outside object falls out of scope. However, the simple test I built seems to indicate that this is not behaving as I had expected/hoped. Is there a way to setup my classes in such a way that PHP would clean them up correctly when the outermost object falls out of scope? I am not looking for alternate ways to write this code, I am looking for whether or not this can be done, and if so, how? • NSOperationQueue bug with dependencies

  I am using NSOperation and NSOperationQueue for performing a sequence of operations, all dependent on each other (2 on 1, 3 on 2, etc...). I set the dependency after I create the operations. I am encountering problems when the queue completes: the program crashes in the _release part of the code, apparently when the NSOperations are getting released. Note that they all get released at the end by the queue, because it is only after the very last one which depends on the second last one, which depends on etc... that they can be released. If I remove any dependency, the code runs fine. If I change waitUntilFinished: to NO, it crashes, if it is YES, it does not. I have isolated the problem to the following code which does not use any of my custom classes. NSOperation by default is a class that does absolutely nothing. Yet, this still crashes when all operations have completed. Therefore, it appears I am not using NSOperationQueue properly but can't see what is wrong. I am running on 10.9 and I have noticed that in general Maverick 10.9 is much more sensitive to these issues than 10.8. • Why doesn't every class in the .Net framework have a corresponding interface?

  Since I started to develop in a test/behavior driven style, I appreciated the ability to mock out every dependency. Since mocking frameworks like Moq work best when told to mock an interface, I now implement an interface for almost every class I create b/c most likely I will have to mock it out in a test eventually. Well, and programming to an interface is good practice, anyways. At times, my classes take dependencies on .Net classes (e.g. FileSystemWatcher, DispatcherTimer). It would be great in that case to have an interface, so I could depend on an IDispatcherTimer instead, to be able to pass it a mock and simulate its behavior to see if my system under test reacts correctly. Unfortunately both of above mentioned classes do not implement such interfaces, so I have to resort to creating adapters, that do nothing else but inherit from the original class and conform to an interface, that I then can use.   I'm working on a PoSh project that generates CSharp code, and then Add-Types it into memory. The new types use existing types in an on disk DLL, which is loaded via Add-Type. All is well and good untill I actualy try to invoke methods on the new types. • Singleton Roles in Moose

  I am attempting to write a singleton role using Perl and Moose. I understand a MooseX::Singleton module is available but there is always resistance when requiring another CPAN module for our project. After trying this and having a little trouble I would like to understand WHY my method is not working. However when two classes (ClassA and ClassB for example) both consume the Singleton role it appears as they are both referring to a shared $_singleInstance variable. If I call ClassA-getInstance it returns a reference to a ClassA object. If I call ClassB-getInstance sometime later in the same script it returns a reference to an object of type ClassA (even though I clearly called the getInstance method for ClassB). If I dont use a role and actually copy and paste the code from the Singleton role into ClassA and ClassB it appears to work fine. Whats going on here?

• Pattern for sharing data between views (MVP or MVVM)

  What is a good pattern for sharing data between related views?. I have an application where 1 form contains many small views, each views behaves independently from each other more or less (they communicate/interact via an event bus). Every so often I need to pass the same objects to the child views. Sometimes I need this same object to be passed to a child view and then the child passes it onto another child itself contains. What is a good approach to sharing this data between all the views contained within the parent form (view) ? I have looked into CAB and their approach and every "view" has a "root work item" this work item has dictionary that contains a shared "state" between the views that are contained. Is this the best approach? just a shared dictionary all the views under a root view can access? My current approach right now is to have a function on the view that allows one to set the object for that view. Something like view.SetCustomer(Customer c); then if the view contains a child view it knows to set it on the child view ala: this.childview1.SetCustomer(c); The application is written in C# 3.5, for winforms using MVP with structure map as a IoC/DI provider.

• The cost of passing by shared_ptr

  I use std::tr1::shared_ptr extensively throughout my application. This includes passing objects in as function arguments. Consider the following: class Dataset {...} void f( shared_ptr< Dataset const > pds ) {...} void g( shared_ptr< Dataset const > pds ) {...} ... While passing a dataset object around via shared_ptr guarantees its existence inside f and g, the functions may be called millions of times, which causes a lot of shared_ptr objects being created and destroyed. Is this normal? A large portion of my application is single-threaded and I was thinking about re-writing some of the functions as void f( const Dataset& ds ) {...} and replacing the calls shared_ptr< Dataset > pds( new Dataset(...) ); f( pds ); with f( *pds ); in places where I know for sure the object will not get destroyed while the flow of the program is inside f(). But before I run off to change a bunch of function signatures / calls, I wanted to know what the typical performance hit of passing by shared_ptr was. • Best way to manipulate and compare strings

  I'm developing a REST service, so a request could be something like this: /Data/Main/Table=Customers/ I need to get the segments one by one, and for each segment I will decide wich object I'm going to use, after I'll pass to that object the rest of the query so it can decide what to do next. Basically, the REST query is a path on a tree :P This imply lots String operations (depending on the query complexity), but StringBuilder is useful just for concatenations and remove, you cannot perform a search with IndexOf or similar. I've developed this class that fulfill my requirement, but the problem is that is manipulating Strings, so every time I get one segment ... • MVC implementation/best-practices question

  I have to work with some code that isn't truly MVC (i.e., it doesn't use an explicit framework among other things). Right now we make do with servlets that pass data to services. Here is my problem. I am receiving a post to a servlet that contains a whole bunch of address data that I have to save to the database. The data is (obviously) in the HttpRequest object. My question is, how do I pass this data into a service? I am reluctant to do it like this: AddressService.saveAddress(request); Because I don't think the service should have a dependency on the request. My other option is to do something like this: String addressLine = request.getParameter("addressLine"); .. .. about 7 other parameters .. String zip = request.getParameter("zip"); AddressService.saveAddress(addressLine, ... 7 other parameters ..., zip); But I don't like having a function with a huge number of parameters either. I was thinking of making an intermediate object called AddressData that would hold data from the request, and then passing that into the service. Is that an acceptable way of doing things?

• JSF Render response programmatically

  I have one parent page with a parentManagedBean (attached to Session Scope). On click of a button on this parent page, one popup comes which has a childManagedBean (attached to Request scope). Now ChildManagedBean holds a reference to parentManaged bean through JSF's managed property facility. On this popup window, user selects some option which populates a large value object. I use the managed property of childManagedBean to set the values from this large object to that of parentManagedBean. Problem is - The parent page shows a link, on click of which a popup comes, on selection of the popup, the popup disappears and set the values to the parentManaged bean. So far so good, but the newly set values need to appear on the parent page. This is where I am stuck. How to programmatically render the master page/render page when I am at the child managed bean? Is there a way I can get handle of the parent page and refresh it? Note: I'm using JSF 1.1 EDIT- After following the solution of "resubmit-ing the form" from javascript, I am seeing that the old form is getting resubmitting which overwrites all of my changed values.

  Typically i dont want to know the specifics of the cons of OOPs, but it felt kind of weird when I had an argument at an interview I attended recently. The question that was posted to me was to tell me one disadvantage of OOP (Object Oriented Programming). At that time, I felt OOP to be the most matured level of programming after the procedural/functional models. So I replied to him that I dont see any negatives at all. But the interviewer said there are few and I asked him to list one if he does not mind. He gave an example that I cant digest well, he said that OOP pattern does not strictly implement inheritance rules and cited the satellite/rocket example where the body parts will disintegrate periodically to remove weight during rocket launch and said that inheritance does not support this. His example kind of felt very weird to me the reason being the application of inheritance to this example. Then I left the example aside and I had this doubt - Can we unplug class hierarchies in such a manner (I am kind of confident in Java its not possible) in an ideal Object Oriented Design?

• Error CS0117: Namespace.A does not contain definition for Interface..

  I'm getting the error: 'Namespace.A' does not contain a definition for 'MyObjectInterface' and no extension method 'MyObjectInterface' accepting a first argument of type ... I've looked at this and this and neither seems to apply. The code looks like: public abstract class Base { public IObject MyObjectInterface { get; set; } } public class A : Base { /**/ } public class Implementation { public void Method() { Base obj = new A(); obj.MyObjectInterface = /* something */; // Error here } } IObject is defined in a separate assembly, but: IObject is in a separate assembly/namespace Base and A are in the same assembly/namespace each with correct using directives Implementation is in a third separate assembly namespace, also with correct using directives. Casting to A before trying to set MyObjectInterface doesn't work Specifically, I'm trying to set the value of MyObjectInterface to a mock object (though, I created a fake instead to no avail) I've tried everything I can think of. Please help before I lose more hair. edit I can't reproduce the error by creating a test app either, which is why I'm here and why I'm frustrated. @Reed Copsey: /* something */ is either an NUnit.DynamicMock(IMailer).MockInstance or a Fake object I created that inherits from IObject and just returns canned values. @Preet Sangha: I checked and no other assembly that is referenced has a definition for an IObject (specifically, it's called an IMailer). Thing is that intellisense picks up the Property, but when I compile, I get CS0117. I can even 'Go To Definition' in the implementation, and it takes me to where I defined it.
