• edmx - The operation could not be completed - After adding Inheritance

  Hey guys I have an edmx model which I have draged 2 tables onto - One called 'File' and the other 'ApplicaitonFile'. These two tables have a 1 to 1 relationship in the database. If I stop here everything works fine. But in my model, I want 'ApplicaitonFile' to inherit from 'File'. So I delete the 1 to 1 relationship then configure 'ApplicaitonFile' from 'File' and then remove the FileId from 'ApplicaitonFile' which was the primary key. (Note I am following the instructions from here). If I leave the model open at this point everything is fine, but as soon as I close it, if I try and reopen it again I get the following error "The operation could not be completed". I have been searching for a solution and found this - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/944050/entity-model-does-not-load but as far as I can tell I don't have a duplicate InheritanceConnectors (although I don't know exactly what I'm looking for but I can't see anything out of the ordinary - like 2 connectors with the same name) and the relationship I originally have is a 1 to 1 not a 1 to 0..1 Any ideas???

• How Do I Bind a "selected Item" in a Listbox to a ItemsControl in WPF?

  LowDown: I am trying to create a Document Viewer in WPF. It will allow the user to preview selected documents and if they want, compare the documents in WPF. So they can view them side by side. The layout is this: Left side is a full list box. On the right side is a Collection or an Items control. Inside the items control will be a collection of the "selected documents" in the list box. So A user can select multiple items in the list box and for each new item they select, they can add the item to the collection on the right. I want the collection to look like a image gallery that shows up in Google/Bing Image searches. Make sense? The problem I am having is I can't get the WPFPreviewer to bind correctly to the selected item in the list box under the itemscontrol. Side Note: The WPFPreviewer is something Micorosft puts out that allows us to preview documents. Other previewers can be built for all types of documents, but im going basic here until I get this working right. • Linq to SQL case sensitivity causing problems

  I've seen this question, but that's asking for case-insensitive comparisons when the database is case-sensitive. I'm having a problem with the exact opposite. I'm using SQL Server 2005, my database collation is set to Latin1_General_CI_AS. I've got a table, "User", like this: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[User] ( [Id] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [Name] [nvarchar](max) NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT [PK_Example] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [Id] ASC ) ) And I'm using the following code to populate it: string[] names = new[] { "Bob", "bob", "BoB" }; using (MyDataContext dataContext = new AppCompatDataContext()) { foreach (var name in names) { string s = name; if (dataContext.Users.SingleOrDefault(u => u.Name == s) == null) dataContext.Users.InsertOnSubmit(new User { Name = name }); } dataContext.SubmitChanges(); } When I run this the first time, I end up with "Bob", "bob" and "BoB" in the table. When I run it again, I get an InvalidOperationException: "Sequence contains more than one element", because the query against the database returns all 3 rows, and... SELECT * FROM [User] WHERE Name = 'bob' ... is case-insensitive. That is: when I'm inserting rows, Linq to SQL appears to use C# case-sensitive comparisons. When I query later, Linq to SQL uses SQL Server case-insensitive comparisons. I'd like the initial insert to use case-insensitive comparisons, but when I change the code as follows... if (dataContext.Users.SingleOrDefault(u => u.Name.Equals(s, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase) ) == null) ... I get a NotSupportedException: "Method 'Boolean Equals(System.String, System.StringComparison)' has no supported translation to SQL." Question: how do I get the initial insert to be case-insensitive or, more precisely, match the collation of the column in the database? Update: This doesn't appear to be my problem. My problem appears to be that SingleOrDefault doesn't actually look at the pending inserts at all.

  A weird problem with a dropdown menu in IE7: http://screenr.com/SNM The dropdown disappears when the mouse moves to a part that hovers above other layers. • Android: preferences not being stored automatically

  I'm trying to use preference screen. I'm following all steps from online tutorial (once I couldn't get it working, I found other tutorials, and steps seem to be fine). I get to preferences screen, edit values, return to calling activity (via hardware return button). In DDMS perspective FileExplorer shows package_name_preferences.xml file with preferences that should be stored. It contains: <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8' standalone='yes' ?> <map> <string name="false">kg</string> </map> while I expect (data line only shown). <string name="weight">kg</string> Also, if I go change only 1 preference, the same value changes, not a new row is created. I'm just tempted to write my own preference classes that would store data in files or DB, but I know that preferences should work, it just doesn't save properly my stuff. Edit Tutorials used: Main Tutorial - Was using this as a base, simplified, as I needed only 3 listPreferences so far. • DataTrigger inside ControlTemplate doesn't update

  I have a ListBox that is bound to a list of CustomerViewModel-objects, that each has two dependency properties: - Name (string) - Description (string) - IsVisible (bool) (the IsVisible property is True by default and is reversed via the ToggleVisibility Command on the CustomerViewModel) I would like to display the Name and Description to the right of a Border-control, that is has a Transparent background when the IsVisible property is True and Green when the False. My problem is that the DataTrigger part of the code below doesn't work the way I want, because the Setter-part isn't triggered when the IsVisible is changed. What am I doing wrong?   I have a class Document which consists of Id (int) and Url (String). I would like to have a primary index on Id and secondary index on Url. I would also like to have a sequence for Id auto-incrementation. So I create a SecondaryDatabase and then I create a Sequence. • Storing URLs while Spidering

  I created a little web spider in python which I'm using to collect URLs. I'm not interested in the content. Right now I'm keeping all the visited URLs in a set in memory, because I don't want my spider to visit URLs twice. Of course that's a very limited way of accomplishing this. So what's the best way to keep track of my visited URLs? Should I use a database? * which one? MySQL, sqlite, postgre? * how should I save the URLs? As a primary key trying to insert every URL before visiting it? Or should I write them to a file? * one file? * multiple files? how should I design the file-structure? I'm sure there are books and a lot of papers on this or similar topics. Can you give me some advice what I should read?

  I have such a hard time picturing this. I just don't have the brain to do it. My question is, how do I connect the field set_of_bads to set_it_belongs_to in the bads table. This way if I want to get the entire set of data that is set1 by calling on the reports table I can do it. Example: hey reports table.. bring up the row that has the report_id 123. Okay thank you.. Now get all the rows from bads that has the set_of_bads value from the row with the report_id 123. Thanks.

• Quartz Thread Execution Parallel or Sequential?

  We have a quartz based scheduler application which runs about 1000 jobs per minute which are evenly distributed across seconds of each minute i.e. about 16-17 jobs per second. Ideally, these 16-17 jobs should fire at same time, however our first statement, which simply logs the time of execution, of execute method of the job is being called very late. e.g. let us assume we have 1000 jobs scheduled per minute from 05:00 to 05:04. So, ideally the job which is scheduled at 05:03:50 should have logged the first statement of the execute method at 05:03:50, however, it is doing it at about 05:06:38. I have tracked down the time taken by the scheduled job which comes around 15-20 milliseconds. This scheduled job is fast enough because we just send a message on an ActiveMQ queue. We have specified the number of threads of quartz to be 100 and even tried with increasing it to 200 and more, but no gain. One more thing we noticed is that logs from scheduler are coming sequential after first 1 minute i.e. [Quartz_Worker_28] <Some log statement> .. .. [Quartz_Worker_29] <Some log statement> .. .. [Quartz_Worker_30] <Some log statement> .. .. So it suggesting that after some time quartz is running threads almost sequential. May be this is happening due to the time taken in notifying the job completion to persistence store (which is a separate postgres database in this case) and/or context switching. What can be the reason behind this strange behavior? Right now I have no preference if they go by value, or as references. I am struggling with this for the last many hours and would appreciate help, so that I dont have to leave perl for php! • LinqToSQL Double Insert issue

  I have a WCF service with an object structure similar to this: public class MyClass { public List<MySubItem> SubItems { get; set; } } public class MySubItem { public List<MySubSubItem> SubSubItems { get; set; } } public class MySubSubItem { public string DataValue { get; set; } } public class MyClassDAL { public void InsertMyClass(MyClass myClass) { ctx.MyClasses.InsertOnSubmit(myClass); ctx.SubmitChanges(); } } Sometimes my client will call in with a MyClass that submits only half of the values that it has in the list SubSubItems. Later it calls the insert with the rest of the list. The problem is that when it does this I get a Primary Key violation. The reason is that it is trying to insert the MySubItem again (because there are more items in the SubSubItems owned by the same MySubItem object). How do I deal with this? Do I just call an Update? Do I have to try to separate them out (updates from inserts)? SQL Server 2008 has a really cool Merge functionally. Is there some way to access that from LinqToSQL?

  I am trying to use ORM to access data stored, in three mysql tables 'users', 'items', and a pivot table for the many-many relationship: 'user_item' I followed the guidance from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1946357/kohana-3-orm-read-additional-columns-in-pivot-tables and tried $user = ORM::factory('user',1); $user->items->find_all(); $user_item = ORM::factory('user_item', array('user_id' => $user, 'item_id' => $user->items)); if ($user_item->loaded()) { foreach ($user_item as $pivot) { print_r($pivot); } } But I get the SQL error: "Unknown column 'user_item.id' in 'order clause' [ SELECT user_item.* FROM user_item WHERE user_id = '1' AND item_id = '' ORDER BY user_item.id ASC LIMIT 1 ]" Which is clearly erroneous because Kohana is trying to order the elements by a column which doesn't exist: user_item.id. This id doesnt exist because the primary keys of this pivot table are the foreign keys of the two other tables, 'users' and 'items'. Trying to use: $user_item = ORM::factory('user_item', array('user_id' => $user, 'item_id' => $user->items)) ->order_by('item_id', 'ASC'); Makes no difference, as it seems the order_by() or any sql queries are ignored if the second argument of the factory is given. Another obvious error with that query is that the item_id = '', when it should contain all the elements. So my question is how can I get access to the data stored in the pivot table, and actually how can I get access to the all items held by a particular user as I even had problems with that? Thanks

• Entity Framework Multiple associations to a table causes error 3033

  I'm using EF 3.5 SP1. I have 3 tables: Pendants PendantAccessories PartsData Basically #1 and 2 are used for product selection, so #1 has a "Number of Buttons" property and other options. #2 has fields like "Cable Type" etc. The third table contains property information for all of our parts, such as what plant it's manufactured in, it's weight etc. What I'm trying to do is set up an association between #1 and #3 and also between #2 and #3. The PK in all 3 tables is the PartNumber. I set it up between #2 and 3 by going into Mapping Details and adding a Maps to PartsData and mapping the columns. Everything worked good. I then tried the same thing between #1 and 3. However, now when I compile I get "Error 3033: Problem in Mapping Fragment starting at line 713: EntitySets 'pendants' and 'pendantAccessories' are both mapped to the table 'PartsData'. Their Primary Keys may collide." Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong here?

  I have a Rails application running the omniauth-linkedin gem and linkedin gem (essentialy an API wrapper). When a user logs in, they receive a primary login prompt that displays to them the correct scopes (FULL PROFILE and EMAIL ADDRESS), as below: However, after they log in, they get another login prompt that should not come up, and that ignores the initial scope request. It tells them that LinkedIN is only requesting their PROFILE OVERVIEW, which is incorrect: The problem must lie in my auth_controller, and I think it has do to with the url that is created in one of the authentication stages (definitely right after the user enters their LinkedIn authentication credentials).   In C# ASP.NET MVC application I use Link to SQL to provide data for my application. I have got simple database schema like this: In my controller class I reference this data context called Model (as you can see on the right side of picture in properties) like this: private Model model = new Model(); I've got a table (List) of Series rendered on my page. However edit does not work. I debugged my application and found out that everything works as expected until the line with model.SubmitChanges();. This command does not apply the changes of Title property(or any other) against the database. Please help.

• Rails: Multiple "has_many through" for the two same models?

  Can't wrap my head around this... class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :fantasies, :through => :fantasizings has_many :fantasizings, :dependent => :destroy end class Fantasy < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :users, :through => :fantasizings has_many :fantasizings, :dependent => :destroy end class Fantasizing < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :fantasy end ... which works fine for my primary relationship, in that a User can have many Fantasies, and that a Fantasy can belong to many Users. However, I need to add another relationship for liking (as in, a User "likes" a Fantasy rather than "has" it... think of Facebook and how you can "like" a wall-post, even though it doesn't "belong" to you... in fact, the Facebook example is almost exactly what I'm aiming for). I gathered that I should make another association, but I'm kinda confused as to how I might use it, or if this is even the right approach. I started by adding the following: class Fantasy < ActiveRecord::Base ... has_many :users, :through => :approvals has_many :approvals, :dependent => :destroy end class User < ActiveRecord::Base ... has_many :fantasies, :through => :approvals has_many :approvals, :dependent => :destroy end class Approval < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :fantasy end ... but how do I create the association through Approval rather than through Fantasizing? • Duplicate entries on mysql on insert using doctrine

  Hi all! I am facing a very weird problem with mysql and doctrine [with help of codeIgniter]. I am trying to make a simple migration script taking all records from one table and after a little process, saving them to another. However, on my laptop [running windows and wamp] I get double numbers of the original table records to have been copied to the destination table. In my colleagues' laptops, everything works fine! We are all using mysql 5.0.86 [plus windows plus wamp]. • Missing UAC shield overlay on desktop shortcut icon when created by msi created from VS 2008

  I created a setup program to deploy my VBNet program using Visual Studio 2008. Inside this setup program I created a shortcut to the "primary output" to be installed on the user desktop. Now, everything is working correctly. The program is installed under "C:\Program Files" and the shortcut is created on the desktop. Also, when I use this shortcut I am prompted by UAC to autorize running this program as administrator. So far, so good... But! My desktop icon does not have the UAC shield overlay even if the program is compiled with the manifest stating that it must run as administrator. Also, if I manually create a new shortcut on the desktop to the same executable after the installation, this new shortcut WILL have the shield overlay! I have tried to reboot and delete the iconCache.db file but it did not work. So my question is: How can I have my desktop shortcut appear WITH the UAC shield overlay when installed initially. The reason of using a temporary table is that I don't want to store the data permanently so different users can modify it at the same time. That data is just stored for a second, so I think a temporary table is the best approach for this. The thing is that it seems that the way I'm trying to use it is not right (the query works if I use a permanent one).
