• Thinkpad x201 Tablet - Touch doesn't work correctly under 12.04

  running 12.04 on my Thinkpad X201t. On the login screen the touch works fine, the mouse cursor appears where I touch the screen. After I logged in, it doesn't work anymore. If I touch the display, the cursor stays on the point where it was before, it doesn't jump to the touchpoint. I can move it, yes, but its chaotic. With the pen it works fine, but without the touch-function it's not enought for real tablet usage. So, would be glad if touch-function can be fixed. I'm very new to Linux/Ubuntu, so don't know where I can start. Haven't found anything in the system settings & Compiz so far, also no luck in google etc. Would be glad for help ;-). Of course I could go back to 11.04... but I would prefer to stay with the new system. Best, Joachim

• Why does my Ubuntu freeze in the middle of something with a blank screen?

  I am facing a serious problem as my Dell Optiplex 745 loaded with Ubuntu 12.04 32bit freezes with a blank screen no mouse cursor no keyboard activity in many occasions. Sometimes when I open firefox, or software center, I really can't tell what the main problem is, but what i am certain about is it i have to do a hard reset to reboot. I tried to use a live-cd to boot but it did the same, tried the recovery console but couldn't find a way to fix from there (I am a new user) suspected a hardware problem but windows runs flawlessly so I believe its something related to ubuntu. Specs: Intel Celeron D 3.06 GHZ 3.0 GB ram Intel built in graphics Q965 1 TB HDD Bios Phoenex 2.6.4 Please help I really love ubuntu and I don't want to go back to windows!

• CSS just for most basic HTML

  I've read that my note system Wikidpad, which exports to very simple HTML, can use CSS (http://wikidpad.sourceforge.net/help/HtmlCss.html) The elements in the output are not more than basic headings, bullet points and tables. I'd like to try some kind of improved style, but I as I have no knowledge about CSS, so the best I can do is to save some Myfile.css to a directory :) However if I google "CSS template" I get all sorts of complicating results that I cannot make sense of :( Am I using wrong terminology? Can you suggest what I should search for or maybe you even know a ressource where a get a simple CSS file with some decent standard HTML elements. I do not wish to make custom adjustments.

• Rebind Alt key to win using setxkbmap?

  Hi, After an hour or two of manpage and Google searching and finding no solution or good resources, I've come for help! I have set my Caps Lock key to Ctrl using setxkbmap -option ctrl:nocaps - this works perfectly fine. However, since I use [awesome][1], and an IBM model M which lacks the meta key, I need my left alt key to replace the windows key. Using xkeycaps I was able to get this to work, except it killed my arrow keys and End. Problematic. Unfortunately, documentation on setxkbmap options are sparse. and I can't find the proper option to use. Thanks for any links/solutions.

• AABB > AABB collision response?

  I'm really confused about how to fix this in 3d? I want it so that I can slide along cubes but without getting caught if there's 2 adjacent cubes. I've gotten it so that I can do x collision, with sliding, and y, and z, but I can't do them together, probably because I don't know how to resolve it correctly. e.g. [] [] []^ []O [] O is the player, ^ is the direction the player is moving, with the methods which I was trying I would get stuck between the cubes because the z axis was responding and kicking me out :/. I don't know how to resolve this in all 3 direction, like how would I go about telling which direction I have to resolve in. My previous methods involved me checking 4 points in a axis aligned square around the player, I was checking if these points where inside the cubes and if they where fixing my position, but I couldn't get it working correctly. Help is appreciated. edit: pretend all the blocks are touching.

• Doing an SNES Mode 7 (affine transform) effect in pygame

  Is there such a thing as a short answer on how to do a Mode 7 / mario kart type effect in pygame? I have googled extensively, all the docs I can come up with are dozens of pages in other languages (asm, c) with lots of strange-looking equations and such. Ideally, I would like to find something explained more in English than in mathematical terms. I can use PIL or pygame to manipulate the image/texture, or whatever else is necessary. I would really like to achieve a mode 7 effect in pygame, but I seem close to my wit's end. Help would be greatly appreciated. Any and all resources or explanations you can provide would be fantastic, even if they're not as simple as I'd like them to be.   This question is a follow-up to Texture artifacts on iPad How does one "clear the alpha of the render texture frameBufferObject"? I've searched around here, StackOverflow and various search engines but no luck. I've tried a few things... for example calling GlClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT) at the beginning of my render loop... but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Any help is appreciated since I'm still new to OpenGL. Cheers! p.s. I read on SO and in Apple's documentation that GlClear should always be called at the beginning of the renderLoop. Agree? Disagree? • How do I export banshee library settings to another machine?

  I am trying to downgrade my distro. The thing is, I have spent some few hours organising my music library and I do not want to lose my database. I have checked 'write meta data to files'. And so, my understanding is, that if I just import those same mp3s into a new library, those files will be arranged in the same order in the library. But this doesn't sound like a safe enough option. I'm moving from 11.10 to 10.04. Any help would be greatly appreciated. newbie

• Orthographic Zooming with 0,0 at top/left

  I'm trying to implement zooming on my 2D game. Since it's using orthographic projection, I thought it would be easy to implement zooming. After looking around the internet, I found a bunch of explanations and samples on how to do this if (0,0) is the center of the screen with the orthographic projection. The problem is, my ortho projection has (0,0) at the top-left (similar to XNA/Monogame, and a couple others). I could not find any examples about how to implement zooming to the center of the screen when the center is not (0,0). And help/links/code examples would be greatly appreciated.

But now I'm more and more reaching a point where I will want to add static content, descriptions of the software and help information. Information that is generally in a CMS system. How do I in the best way structure this so I can still work with the application. Yet maintaining the look and feel of the rails application? Do write a CMS in my app? That seems a bit far fetched.   I need to know how can I enable mouse click on a button when I have a MouseEvent listener for the stage. I have a MClip associated with the mouse cursor: Mouse.hide(); scope.startDrag(true); And an MouseEnvet on the stage: stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, FunctionXYZ); When I try to click on any button they don't assume the function that I create for those buttons... for example, button for fullscreen, exit, help, etc... • How can I use the Windows key?

  The Windows key seems to not have any use in Ubuntu, but since I'm just coming from Windows I'm used to this key having some function. How can I make good use of the Windows key in Ubuntu? I've seen that I can remap keys in SystemPreferencesKeyboardLayoutOptionsAlt/Win key behavior, but I have no idea what the choices meta, super, hyper mean. The help button in this dialog doesn't give any specifics about them. I've experimented a little and found that meta seems to have some use, like Win+M = Me menu, or Win+S is the shutdown menu, but for some keys (B, I) it's more like Ctrl (bold, italic). Haven't found any further. What would a useful setting be for a Linux newbie?

• Manage Your Amazon S3 Account with CloudBerry Explorer

  If you have an Amazon S3 account you’re using to backup your data, you might want an easy way to manage it. CloudBerry Explorer is a free app that runs on your desktop an provides an easy way to manage your S3 account. Installation and Setup Just download and install the application with the defaults. When the application launches you’ll be prompted to enter in your username and email to get a registration key. Or you can continue on by clicking Register later. Now you will want to set up your Amazon S3 account. Click on File \ Amazon S3 Accounts. Double-click on the New Account icon.   Next enter in your Amazon account Access and Secret keys, select SSL if you want, then click the Test Connection button. Provided everything was entered correctly, you’ll see the Connection Success screen, just close out of it. Browse and Manage files Once you have your account setup through the Explorer, you can start viewing and managing your files on S3. The left pane shows your S3 buckets and stored files, while the right side shows your local computer. This allows you to manage your files in your Amazon S3 buckets directly from your desktop! It’s very easy to use, and you can drag and drop files from your computer to the S3 account or vice versa. There is also the ability to transfer files between Amazon S3 accounts from within the explorer. Go into Tools and Content Types and you can control the file types by adding, removing, or editing them. If you end up messing something up along the lines, you can always select Reset to defaults and everything will be back to normal. There is a multiple tabbed view so you can easily keep track of your different accounts and local machine. It allows the ability to create new storage buckets directly in the Explorer. Or you can delete buckets as well… Different actions can be accessed from the toolbars or by right-clicking and selecting from the context menu. Here we see a cool option that lets you move your data inside Amazon S3. It is faster and doesn’t cost money by moving the files to your computer first, then to another account. However, if you want data moved to your local machine first, you have that option as well.   Not all features are available in the free version, and if it’s not, you’ll be prompted to purchase a license for the Pro version. We will have a comprehensive review of the Pro version in the near future.    If you ever need help with CloudBerry Explorer, go to Tools \ Diagnostics. It will run a quick diagnostics check and you can send the information to the CloudBerry team for assistance. Delete Files from Amazon S3 To delete a file from you Amazon S3 account, simply highlight the files or folder you want to get rid of then click Delete on the toolbar. You can also right-click the file and select Delete from the Context Menu. Click Yes to the confirmation dialog box… Then you can watch the progress as your files are deleted in the bottom section of the explorer. Conclusion CloudBerry Explorer free version has several neat features that will allow you easy and basic control over you Amazon S3 account. The free version may be enough for basic users, but power users will want to upgrade to the pro version, as it includes a lot more features. Using the free version allows you to get a feel for what CloudBerry Explorer has to offer, and is a good starting point. Keep in mind that Amazon S3 is introducing Reduced Redundancy Storage which will lower the price of data stored. The price drops from $0.15 per GB to only $0.10 per GB. • How do I reset proxy in terminal to automatic if not connected via proxy

  Well,all I ever wanted was to download and install an application from the terminal. And to my surprise I just can't I tried to reset proxy of the terminal by some commands but it doesn't happen and automatically switches back to this proxy 172.16.0.16 (which apparently was my college proxy). I checked in my system settings too.. I don't understand why this is recurring. Please be comprehensive,I am a nube :) Also I further would like to know how to bypass proxy server since I couldn't access any of the repositories as they were blocked in my college's proxy settings as is Ubuntu's homepage. Thanks for your time. For sudo ls /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/ it displays a different set of options where proxy is not listed.I am on 12.10,if this should help any.I put a snap of the terminal after the above command has been entered.

  I went to the doctor for anxiety and was prescribed a small dose of lexapro to help with anxiety and sleeping better. I am cautious about taking it since this is the first time it's got bad enough for me to talk to someone and I'm concerned it may negatively impact my career as a software developer. I'm also afraid that once I start it may be difficult to come off. Does anyone on here have experience with this? Is it likely that taking lexapro would negatively affect my problem solving skills, passion for programming or job performance? Thanks for any suggestions.

• Microsoft StyleCop is now Open Source

  I have previously talked about Microsoft StyleCop. For those that might not know about it, StyleCop is a source analysis tool (different from the static analysis that FxCop performs) that analyzes the source code directly. As a result, it focuses on more design (or style) issues such as layout, readability and documentation. In an interesting move (and one that I am happy to see), Microsoft has decided to make StyleCop an open source project (under the MS-PL license) available on CodePlex. (The project site isn’t up  yet, but should be in the next few weeks.) This will give the development community the opportunity to help contribute to the project, expanding support to other languages (currently it only supports C#), adding features, and fixing bugs. Shortly after the CodePlex site is up, StyleCop 4.4 will be released which includes support for C# 4.0 as well as a large number of bug fixes and other improvements. • Recovering domain name from a person I can't find

  I have a problem with one domain and I have no idea how to go about it. I am volunteering for a small charity in Sheffield (UK), more specifically I am redoing their website. A while ago (few years) there was one guy who made that website for them, sorted out a free hosting with another charity, bought domain name etc. Since the domain name is registered in his name, and he disappeared and we have no way of finding/contacting him, we can't move it to different hosting or do virtually nothing about it. Somehow the domain is being renewed every year, we know which domain registration service provider it is registered with, we know the guys name, and that's about it. How would we go about re-registering that domain in the charity's name, instead of that guy, is that at all possible? If we happen to get in touch with him, what should we ask for? Thanks for your help.

• I can't get Ubuntu installation to start

  I have a computer with the following configuration: AZUS Sabertooth Motherboard Intel I5 2500 CPU Windows 7 installed I'm trying to install linux. I first attempted to install pin guy. I burned the ISO, booted from it, got the initial menu; attempting to either run the live version from DVD, or install to system. However the process stops at a blank screen with the blinking cursor in left corner. So I downloaded Ubuntu and got the same results. Then I tried wubi and ended up in the same position. EDIT: UEFI might be part of the problem? Based on the link below I have determined that the process will be too time consuming and or risky so I'm giving up. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFIBooting
