• UI Design, incase of numerous situations

  Hi... I'm creating a web form, where in there are around 12-15 Input Fields... You can have a look at the screen and The request is such that depending on the data the user selects in the Gridview and the DropDown list, the appropriate Textboxes and CheckBoxes needs to be displayed. Some times the conditions are very direct, like when the DDL value is "ABC", get only paid amount from the user. Sometime they are so complex like... IF DDL is "DEF" and Selected GPMS value is between 1000-2000, calculate the values of allowed, paid etc (using some formula) and the focus should be directed to Page No Field, leaving the other fields open incase user wants to edit... There are around 10-15 conditions like this. As this was done through agile, conditions were being added as and when, and wherever it feels appropriate (DDL on change Event, GridView on selecting change event etc... etc..) After completion, now I see the code has become a big chuck, is growing unmanageably... Now, I'm planning to clear this... From you experience, what you think is the best way to handle this. There is a possibility to add more conditions like this in future... Please let me know, incase you need more information. I'm currently developing this app in C# .Net WindowsForms Edit: Currently there are only three items (The Datagrid, the DDL, the OverrideAmt CheckBox) that change the way other fields behave... Almost all of the conditions will fall between the two situations I mentioned... Mostly they belong to "Enabling/Disabling".. "Setting of Values"... and "Changing Focus" or any combination of these.

• 2 different routes on one page?

  Hi I'm pretty new with MVC2 or MVC in general. If it's one thing I get caught up with it's routes. Like now I got this scenario. Im going from the regular site to Admin. The navigation tho dont get no action assigned to it. It's just <a href='Admin/'> The navigation is in the shared folder, and it is a strongly typed. Any Ideas? • int.Parse of "8" fails. int.Parse always requires CultureInfo.InvariantCulture?

  We develop an established software which works fine on all known computers except one. The problem is to parse strings that begin with "8". It seems like "8" in the beginning of a string is a reserved character. Parsing: int.Parse("8") -> Exception message: Input string was not in a correct format. int.Parse("80") -> 0 int.Parse("88") -> 8 int.Parse("8100") -> 100 CurrentCulture: sv-SE CurrentUICulture: en-US The problem is solved using int.Parse("8", CultureInfo.InvariantCulture). However, it would be nice to know the source of the problem. Question: Why do we get this behaviour of "8" if we don't specify invariant culture? • How do I correctly detect presence of FLTK using SCONS?

  I'm trying to build an application I've downloaded which uses the SCONS "make replacement" and the Fast Light Tool Kit Gui. The SConstruct code to detect the presence of fltk is: guienv = Environment(CPPFLAGS = '') guiconf = Configure(guienv) if not guiconf.CheckLibWithHeader('lo', 'lo/lo.h','c'): print 'Did not find liblo for OSC, exiting!' Exit(1) Unfortunately, on my (Gentoo Linux) system, and many others (Linux distributions) this can be quite troublesome if the package manager allows the simultaneous install of FLTK-1 and FLTK-2. Being Idealistic, I attempted to modify the SConstruct file to use fltk-config --cflags and fltk-config --ldflags (or fltk-config --libs might be better than ldflags) by adding them like so: guienv.Append(CPPPATH = os.popen('fltk-config --cflags').read()) guienv.Append(LIBPATH = os.popen('fltk-config --ldflags').read()) But this causes the test for liblo to fail! • pass object from JS to PHP and back

  This is something that I don't think can't be done, or can't be done easy. Think of this, You have an button inside a div in HTML, when you click it, you call a php function via AJAX, I would like to send the element that start the click event(or any element as a parameter) to PHP and BACK to JS again, in a way like serialize() in PHP, to be able to restore the element in JS. Let me give you a simple example: PHP: function ajaxCall(element){ return element; } JS: callbackFunction(el){ el.color='red'; } HTML: <div id="id_div"> <input type="button" value="click Me" onClick="ajaxCall(this, callbackFunction);" /> </div> So I thing at 3 methods method 1. I can give each element in the page an ID. so the call to Ajax would look like this: ajaxCall(this.id, callbackFunction); and the callback function would be: document.getElementById(el).color='red'; This method I think is hard, beacause in a big page is hard to keep track of all ID's. method 2. I think that using xPath could be done, If i can get the exact path of an element, and in the callback function evaluate that path to reach the element. This method needs some googling, it is just an ideea. method 3. Modify my AJAX functions, so it retain the element that started the event, and pass it to the callback function as argument when something returns from PHP, so in my AJAX would look like this: eval(callbackFunction(argumentsFromPhp, element)); and the callback function would be: callbackFunction(someArgsFromPhp, el){ el.color='red'; // parse someArgsFromPhp } I think that the third option is my choise to start this experiment. • CSS styles are not applied to elements added to JavaFX component tree

  I have applied CSS style to JavaFX components and it looks like everything is working fine except one situation: when I add JavaFX components to component tree on-the-fly their CSS styles are not applied. I noticed that: Components added dynamically look just like style information was not applied. If you set their style in JavaFX code then everything works fine. After changing stylesheets property (so that it points to another valid stylesheet) the objects already added render properly. Does anyone know the solution to this problem? I could of course put all the properties into JavaFX code or provide another stylesheet (for every existing stylesheed) that would contain the same data and change stylesheet right after adding any component, but I would like to find some elegant solution. • WPF - Why doesn't Microsoft supply a decent set of most-used controls ?

  I've been playing with WPF for some months now, and I quite like it. But one of the things I don't get is why MS doesn't put a little more effort in helping developers by supplying basic controls, and I need to get this off my chest :) For example, I figure most applications somewhere will need to let you edit some properties - for configuration or whatever. What would be the most used types in a proprety-grid editor ? text numbers (byte, float/double, int, etc) colors ....etc. So why isn't there even something as simple as a control to edit numbers ? Like a generic NumericUpDown control that allows you to type in numbers (no text, no pasting invalid input) or spin them up/down according to some given rules (decimal, floating point, min/maxvalue) ? Why isn't there a generic colorpicker, so people get the same user-experience in every application ? Why isn't there a standard implementation of a SearchTextBox, a BreadCrumb-control, or all these other standard control types users have gotten accustomed to the last 10 years ? (..but at least they DID have the time to implement a generic splashscreen - because everyone knows that greatly increases user-productivity....) The well-known ideal is always to give people the same user-experience over different applications. So even if some of those controls would be easy to make - it would be preferred to have one version over different applications. I see people all over the internet trying to do the same stuff over and over again. Okay, so MS started a WPF Toolkit project on Codeplex that tries to implement some controls, but only did so half-heartedly and is completely dead by now (last update of the roadmap dates back to Mar 21 2009). The result of this is that a lot of people starting a WPF-project end up spending a lot of time on trying to figure out how to create some generic controls and get really frustrated. Wasn't the mantra "Developers, developers, developers!" ..? /Rant

• HTML checkbox field is being passed to PHP as checked even when it is not

  Hello all, First of all thanks in advance, this has been very frustrating and I'm hoping someone can see something I'm not, I am definitely no php expert. Well here' what is going on. I have a form where I have a checkbox for people to opt in to our newletter. The form element looks like this: <label for=newsletter accesskey=N class="checkbox">Signup for Cloverton's Newsletter</label> <input name="newsletter" type="checkbox" id="newsletter" value="Yes" style="width:20px;" /> That is then submitted to a php file with this code: if (isset($_POST['newsletter']) && $_POST['newsletter'] == 'Yes'){ echo "newletter yes"; $newsletter = 1; }else{ echo "newsletter no"; $newsletter = 0; } $newsletter is then inserted into a database field. The issue is that whether the box is checked or not it is being sent to php as true, so every entry is receiving the newsletter. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

• [iOS] becomeFirstResponder: automatically scroll to the UIControl that becomes first responder

  I have a grouped UITableViewController with one section and many rows. Each cell consists of two elements: a UILabel with a description and a UITextField for an input. A form, I would say. On the bottom is a button "Next" the go to the next view. But before that, I validate the UITextField's: if the user hasn't filled a field, this field should get the focus, so that the user sees that he needs to enter something. I tried with this: [inputField becomeFirstResponder]; Remember, the button I pressed is on the bottom of my view and imagine that the UITextField is on the top. In this situation, the field doesn't get the focus because it is too far away. Now when I scroll up slowly and the field gets visible, the field becomes first responder and gets the cursor :-) Conclusion: The becomeFirstResponder worked, but does not exactly do what I wanted to. I don't want to scroll up with my finger, the field should get the focus and visible automatically. Is there any way to "jump" directly to my field? Use an alternative to becomeFirstResponder? Scroll to my field automatically? Thanks for your help!

  C++ preprocessor __VA_ARGS__ number of arguments The accepted answer there doesn't work for me. I've tried with MSVC++ 10 and g++ 3.4.5. The error output of g++ more specifically says that only one argument is supplied. Having trouble believing that the answer would be proposed and then accepted when it totally fails to work, so what am I doing wrong? Why is XXX being interpreted as the argument and not being expanded? In my own messing around everything works fine until I try to pass off VA_ARGS to a macro containing some names followed by ... like so: #define WTF(X,Y,...) X , Y , __VA_ARGS__ #define WOT(...) WTF(__VA_ARGS__) WOT(52,2,5,2,2) I've tried both with and without () in the various macros that take no input.

  I built a Visual Studio 2008 setup Project wich depends on .NET 3.5. I added Prerequisites like: .NET 3.5, Microsoft office interoperability, VS tools for office System 3.0 Run time, .etc. After that Selected "Download Prerequisite from Same location as my application" in Specify install location for Prerequisite. I Built the setup and found mysetup.msi in Release directory. In a new machine I started fresh installation of my application. A dialog shows like this "This Setup Requires .NET framework 3.5 , Please install .NET setup then run this setup, .NET Framework can be obtained from web Do you want to do that now?" it gives "Yes" and "No" option - if I press yes it goes to Microsoft website. How can avoid it? I wanted setup take .NET Framework to be installed from same location where I put all setup files including mysetup.msi? In case of quiet installation cmd /c "msiexec /package mysetup.msi /quiet /log install.log" ..in log I can see only half way through installation then error Property(S): HideFatalErrorForm = TRUE MSI (s) (D0:24) [00:07:08:015]: Product: my product-- Installation failed. === Logging stopped: 3/23/2010 0:07:08 === How can complete I the installation without user intervention and without error using VS2008 setup project?   Hey all, I'm trying to write a sort function but am having trouble figuring out how to initialize a value, and making this function work as a generic template. The sort works by: Find a pair =(ii,jj)= with a minimum value = ii+jj = such at A[ii]A[jj] If such a pair exists, then swap A[ii] and A[jj] else break; The function I have written is as follows: template <typename T> void sort(T *A, int size) { T min =453; T temp=0; bool swapper = true; while(swapper) { swapper = false; int index1 = 0, index2 = 0; for (int ii = 0; ii < size-1; ii++){ for (int jj = ii + 1; jj < size; jj++){ if((min >= (A[ii]+A[jj])) && (A[ii] > A[jj])){ min = (A[ii]+A[jj]); index1 = ii; index2 = jj; swapper = true; } } } if (!swapper) return; else { temp = A[index1]; A[index1] = A[index2]; A[index2] = temp; sort(A,size); } } } This function will successfully sort an array of integers, but not an array of chars. I do not know how to properly initialize the min value for the start of the comparison. I tried initializing the value by simply adding the first two elements of the array together (min = A[0] + A[1]), but it looks to me like for this algorithm it will fail. I know this is sort of a strange type of sort, but it is practice for a test, so thanks for any input.

• working with large sprite sheets on iphone

  Hi All, I am trying to use sprite sheet animation in my application. The first POC with a small sprite sheet worked fine but as i change the sprite sheet to a bigger one, i get "check_safe_call: could not restore current frame" warning and the application quits. A quick search revealed that this problem meant my app is taking too much memory or the image is too huge in dimension. My image is 4.9 Mb and dimensions are 6720 * 10080 (oops!!). i read that iphone allows maximum 3 Mb image with dimensions up to 1024 * 1024. Also that the sprite sheet image dimensions should be a power of two. So please let me know how i can use a sprite sheet this big. One approach could be to cut the sprite sheet into many smaller sprite sheets and use them one at a time. Please suggest if you know any other/better approach to accommodate bigger sprite sheets and whether the problem with my sprite sheet is size (4.9 Mb) OR dimensions (6720 * 10080). (Just FYI, i am not trying to play a movie so using MP4 file instead is not an option for me. i need to animate the sprite sheet based on accelerometer input and i have been able to achieve that in my POC with smaller sprite sheet.) • Java split giving opposite order of arabic characters

  I am splitting the following string using \\| in java (android) using the IntelliJ 12 IDE. Everything is fine except the last part, somehow the split picks them up in the opposite order : As you can see the real positioning 34,35,36 is correct and according to the string, but when it gets picked out into split part no 5 its in the wrong order, 36,35,34 ... Any way I can get them to be in the right order? • How to extract a 2x2 submatrix from a bigger matrix

  Hello, I am a very basic user and do not know much about commands used in C, so please bear with me...I cant use very complicated codes. I have some knowledge in the stdio.h and ctype.h library, but thats about it. I have a matrix in a txt file and I want to load the matrix based on my input of number of rows and columns For example, I have a 5 by 5 matrix in the file. I want to extract a specific 2 by 2 submatrix, how can I do that ? I created a nested loop using : FILE *sample sample=fopen("randomfile.txt","r"); for(i=0;i<rows;i++){ for(j=0;j<cols;j++){ fscanf(sample,"%f",&matrix[i][j]); } fscanf(sample,"\n",&matrix[i][j]); } fclose(sample); Sadly the code does not work .. If I have this matrix : 5.00 4.00 5.00 6.00 5.00 4.00 3.00 25.00 5.00 3.00 4.00 23.00 5.00 2.00 352.00 6.00 And inputting 3 for row and 3 for column, I get : 5.00 4.00 5.00 6.00 5.00 4.00 3.00 25.00 5.00 Not only this isnt a 2 by 2 submatrix, but even if I wanted the first 3 rows and first 3 columns, its not printing it correctly.... I need to start at row 3 and col 3, then take the 2 by 2 submatrix ! I should have ended up with : 4.00 23.00 352.00 6.00 I heard that I can use fgets and sscanf to accomplish this. Here is my trial code : fgets(garbage,1,fin); sscanf(garbage,"\n"); But this doesnt work either :( What am I doing wrong ? Please help. Thanks !

  I can't seem to find the reason behind this error.   Is there a way to establish a GPIB connection using MATLAB without the instrument control Tool box? (I don't have it). Also is there a way for MATLAB to know what the external device's RS232 parameter values are ( Baud rate, stop bit etc..). • MS Access 2003 - Is there a way to programmatically define the data for a chart?

  So I have some VBA for taking charts built with the Form's Chart Wizard, and automatically inserting it into PowerPoint Presentation slides. I use those chart-forms as sub forms within a larger forms that has parameters the user can select to determine what is on the chart. The idea is that the user can determine the parameter, build the chart to his/her liking, and click a button and have it in a ppt slide with the company's background template, blah blah blah..... So it works, though it is very bulky in terms of the amount of objects I have to use to accomplish this. I use expressions such as the following: like forms!frmMain.Month&* to get the input values into the saved queries, which was fine when i first started, but it went over so well and they want so many options, that it is driving the number of saved queries/objects up. I need several saved forms with charts because of the number of different types of charts I need to have this be able to handle. SO FINALLY TO MY QUESTION: I would much rather do all this on the fly with some VBA. • Can I rename LOCAL, REMOTE and BASE as used in git mergetool?

  Lets say I'm doing a rebase B of a branch onto master and there's a conflict. git opens up the default merge tool with 3 files as input : file.LOCAL, file.BASE, file.REMOTE (they're named a little differently, but LOCAL, BASE and REMOTE are in the file names and is how they are distinguished). Now, according to the mergetool man page: $LOCAL is set to the name of a temporary file containing the contents of the file on the current branch; $REMOTE set to the name of a temporary file containing the contents of the file to be merged, and $BASE set to the name of a temporary file containing the common base for the merge. That really does not make sense to me. LOCAL is the current state of the branch. Where I get lost is BASE and REMOTE. So my question is : Is it possible to make git use the branch name instead of LOCAL and similarly more meaningful names other than BASE and REMOTE? For example, if the branch name is FeatureX and the BASE = the file as it exists in master, is there a way to get git to substitute FeatureX for LOCAL and master for BASE, so that it is more apparent where the source is coming from? This is especially a problem when doing a rebase.

I am obliged to execute them in SQL Plus, so I receive an error message. • Registry remotley hacked win 7 need help tracking the perp

  I was writing some .VBS code at thhe office that would allow certain file extensions to be downloaded without a warning dialog on a w7x32 system. The system I was writing this on is in a lab on a segmented subnet. All web access is via a proxy server. The only means of accessing my machine is via the internet or from within the labs MSFT AD domain. While writing and testing my code I found a message of sorts. Upon refresing the registry to verify my code changed a dword, instead the message HELLO was written and visible in regedit where the dword value wass called for. I took a screen shot and proceeded to edit my code. This same weird behavior occurred last time I was writing registry code except on another internal server. I understand that remote registry access exists for windows systems. I will block this immediately once I return to the office. What I want to know is, can I trace who made this connection? How would I do this? I suspect the cause of this is the cause of other "odd" behaviors I'm experiencing at work such as losing control of my input director master control for over an hour and unchanged code that all of a sudden fails for no logical region. These failures occur at funny times, whenver I'm about to give a demonstration of my test code. I know this sounds crazy however knowledge of the registry component makes this believable. Once the registry can be accessed, the entire system is compromised. Any help or sanity checking is appreciated.
