• Linux Centos - Mail Deamon Preferences

  I keep getting emails from root into my inbox, I get about 30 a day which is annoying as hell and I'm wondering how I can filter these emails down so that I only receive the essential emails. I don't want to have an email every single time I log in via SSH, but when you 30-40 a day sometimes it can get pretty annoying. Is there a section in cPanel or WHM where I can tick or un-tick a section to choose which emails I wish to receive? I also get mail deamon bounce email messages which I'd also like to disable. I've looked and looked, but I think I'm either overlooking something simple or I'm looking in the wrong place.

• PHP Mail Relay via Remote smtp Server

  We have a php application running on Linux which sends emails to there users. Currently its setup like php.ini is configured to send via local sendmail server but we have separate mail server for our organization for this domain. I want to send the php application emails via that remote smtp server so these emails can have the correct SPF records and sign via DKIM. But I could not see such option in php.ini to specify the remote host address to forward emails to that, its for windows only. I saw some post which suggest phpMailer but I could not find how to configure that so all our php application could send via our remote SMTP.

• Two mail servers, need help with dns configuration for the backup one

  I need to run a redundant backup mail server in case the main one goes down. The settings in GoDaddy look something like the following: A (Host) Host Points to @ ip address of mail1 41.x.x.x mail1 ip address of mail1 41.x.x.x mail2 ip address of mail2 196.x.x.x MX Priority host points to 10 @ mail1.mydomain.com 20 @ mail2.mydomain.com When mail1 goes down, mail2 is able to get emails. I can access it through the browser with no problem, but I want my users to able to pop3/smtp as well without changing anything in their outlook. I dont want any impact to the users when mail1 is down. Also, I'm using the windows server DFS to keep both folders of the mails in sync. Is this the right way, or should I be using something else?

  Hi, I have just finished setting up a Postfix mail server on a linux (ubuntu) platform. I have it sending and receiving email and it is not an open relay. It also supports secure smtp and imap. Now this is a pretty beginner question but should I be leaving port 25 open? (since secure smtp is preferred). if so then why? Also what about port 587? Also should I require any authentication on either of these ports? Please excuse my ignorance in this area :P

• Recommend a mail server setup for multiple domains

  Hi all, I've just set up a new Debian web server which I have done plenty of times before, but I want to add a mail server which I have never done before. I am aware of this question, but I would like someone to recommend packages and briefly explain how to use them for providing pop/imap access on multiple domains, a concept that has confused me for a while. I'm planning for this server to grow slowly but surely, from serving an initial 5 or 6 domains to about 20 in the first year, continuing at this rate. (yes, I've jumped on the cloud bandwaggon). At the moment, I have a DNS-A record pointing to my server's IP and nothing else. I'm assuming that I need a DNS-MX record pointing there too, but I haven't read up about it yet so today that's what I'll be doing. Hopefully reading up on the subject and the help that I get here will get my server up and running in no time. Thanks!

• Exchange unable to relay mail outbound

  I have some users congigured in exchange 2003 (delivery options tab) to forward mails to their external address. This was working fine until today. The mails are being held up in the SMTP queue folder. I am able telnet the addresses (e.g. google.com) at port 25 from the server. Any reason why the mails are held up? Other emails are going ou. It's only the mailboxes configured to forward the mail out to the public email addresses. I also did the following Check event logs for errors. Nothing. Checked my domain on blacklists. Nothing. Any idesa?

• Is there anything like mail goggles for outlook?

  Gmail has a cool feature that requires user interaction to send an email at certain hours of the day called mail goggles. Is there anything remotely like this for outlook? More specifically, what I'd like is some dialog that has a personal reminder (to make sure certain steps have been taken, like seeing who needs cc'd) and some sort of forced user interaction, like a checkbox. The tool would prevent you from sending he email until you had completed the interaction. If not, would it be possible to make something like this in VBA or as an addin? I realize this sounds like a really annoying feature, but I have a friend who is having a lot of trouble building certain email habits and this would be a sure-fire way to help.

• Gmail not accepting mail

  I'm setting up a new mail server with postfix dovecot and things are working fine except this strange thing. I'm unable to send email to gmail addresses. The log shows status sent. However, I checked there is no email in gmail mailbox. Jul 8 13:10:08 example postfix/smtp[5294]: B53B637C233: to=<[email protected]>, relay=gmail-smtp-in-v4v6.l.google.com[173.194.79.26]:25, delay=2.2, delays=1.5/0.08/0.49/0.14, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (250 2.0.0 OK 1341727808 nc7si50672387pbc.75) However, my other account can send to gmail. After several testing, then I found that if I first send email from gmail, then subsequently I can send from my server and email received by gmail. I don't have this issue with Yahoo. What could be the problem?

  Trying to join a osx machine on a dhcp network which forces certain client IDs. Even if I was to modify the client-id via the network properties, the DHCP server is not accepting this request, since Windows and Apple send this via different options You can set the ClassID in the Network Control Panel in the DHCP Client ID box. The trick lies in setting up your DHCP server to recognize it. Windows XP sends the DHCP class ID via DHCP option 77, and OS X sends it via option 61. You'll have to set your DHCP server to check for option 61, +with an offset of 1 and a length of 9+. That's the tricky bit. So, without modifying the DHCP server... (which does not belong to me), is there anything that can be done on OSX to modify the client-id option to be 77?

• Command+Tab not working on MacOSX Client with Synergy

  I have an Ubuntu 11.10 laptop paired with an Apple Wireless Keyboard. I'm using the answer on this question to swap the Command and Option keys so that they are mapped like a regular keyboard. This works fine in Ubuntu. Now I have a Macbook Pro running as a Synergy Client. This mapping kind of works on the Macbook, but it only allows me to Command+Tab between two programs, not all of them. Copy, Paste, and other Command keys seem to work fine, but not Command+Tab. It's annoying just because I use the keyboard a lot. And yes, I could switch to syncing the keyboard and the Macbook, but I use the Ubuntu laptop more.

  Hi folks, Sorry for the newbie question--this is not my area of expertise by a long shot. I work at a small development shop and we finally got around to doing code reviews. (Yay!) I set up an instance of Review Board -- an open-source code review tool -- on one of our local servers but it doesn't seem to like talking to our hosted Exchange server to send notification emails. I decided to just install Postfix on that same box and send mail from localhost, which is working much more reliably, but Outlook disables all links in the email announcements and marks it as possible phishing. What is making these emails look suspicious and what can I change? Would the best thing be to figure out how to relay to Exchange from Postfix? Thanks!

  I'm running a webserver with a contact form which triggers a php script to sendmail the message to a local account on the server, and I want to be notified on my regular email account when I got new messages. I could have a notification per email or just send the emails directly to my account but that'd be too much: I just want a "you have new mail" notification sent to my email every time the inbox turns from 0 unread messages to 1. Google is burying me in sendmail documentation, and still can't find anything about it. Any ideas?

  Considering moving the domain used by my extended family for email to Google Apps. One less server for me to manage, better spam filtering, etc. One thing that's been nice about running my own has been the way I manage my kids' incoming email - it comes to me first, and I drop good mail in a symlinked IMAP folder that we share. A little procmail is all it takes, and straight-through exceptions are easy to implement. (FYI, no I'm not advocating censorship, but manually filtering spam and viruses from my 8-year-old's inbox seems like the right thing to do. YMMV) Anyway. I'm wondering if there's an easy way to do something similar in Google Apps - setting up filters to auto-redirect to me looks easy enough (any gotchas there?), but moving things back is not obvious. Yes, I could access both accounts via IMAP and drag mails across, but does anyone have an easier way?

  I'm a computer technician and help customers everyday with their computers and smartphones and have a really basic (i think) request but dont know how to go about it. Customer always come in with broken phones, water damage, needing updates, or just want me to backup their information. I currently have a program that i use when i backup their computers it backups their iOS folder C:\Users\USER\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup but what i want is a quick easy way to do this in customers houses. What i require is a way when i plug in a USB drive it AUTOMATICALLY searches for the folder and starts transferring the folder to a predefined folder on the USB drive. This was I can just plug it in and begin work on their computer or phone without the risk of losing their information. I'm sure there is a .bat/.ini file i could use but wondering if someone has already done this or something similar as I would need it to search all the USER folders not just the one I'm logged into.   Our sysadmin team edits the field Message-ID in exim4 header files (ending with -H) and substitues the first char after "<". e.g: 077I Message-ID: <[email protected] -- 077I Message-ID: <[email protected] I'd like to write a script to release the mails. I changed the part between "<" and "@" in the field Message-ID and substituted a hash value so the Message-ID looks like: 077I Message-ID: <[email protected] Now exim says "format error" in the log and the mail is not released. There was no change except for this one field. Why can't the ID be substituted like that? Does it need to be the exact same length? It's exim4 version 4.69-2ubuntu0.3.

  I set up a server with Postfix/Dovecot on Linode/Ubuntu 10.04 according to this guide, admittedly I've never done this before. Local mail works just fine, but trying to send email to it from external addresses results in errors like this: Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: <address>@ni-mate.com Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 553 553 Unknown recipient. (state 13). I honestly have no idea what to do or which configuration files/logs anyone needs to see.

  Hi Everyone, I will have 2 Postfix servers. One will be a backup of the other. What is the easiest method to provide central storage to both of these boxes? My infrastructure is very simple: Just a lot of Xen hosts, so there is no SAN or anything. Each Xen host does have RAID1 though. I don't mind mounting NFS shares on each of those mail servers, as long as the NFS server wasn't a single point of failure. Is there such a thing as redundant NFS?   Hello, I was searching for a long time a Linux Live USB that I can boot my macbook pro from. Is there such distro so I can install it on Snow Leopard or Windows 7? UPDATE I've found this: "isohybrid" CD images (..) are special in that as well as the normal CD-based ISO9660 filesystem they also contain a valid-looking DOS-style partition table. Thus, if you simply copy one of these images raw to a USB stick a normal PC BIOS will boot the image directly. (...) Finally: I'd like to add support into xorriso for creating the nasty HFS hybrid images that are needed for booting Macs. I'm primarily an Mac admin working in a college, but I have recently taken over responsibility for about 30 student workstations running Windows 7. For the Macs I have Apple Remote Desktop, where I can logon to machines in a session,check for any nefarious student activity and if necessary, log off or lock users out of machines. Could anyone give me a suggestion for an equivalent Windows system manager where I can do these tasks - e.g. not just a vnc client but one with more management options?

  Every morning I receive an automatically generated e-mail from a server, it includes a spreadsheet attachment. I made a rule in outlook that captures these emails. Now, I would like to make a macro to rename the attached file (. Xls) to =today() and saves it in a folder on a network drive. This macro must run every weekday at 8:00. • Fix mail that has been put in deferred folder

  So we have a little more than usual deferred mail on our Postfix server, so I started to look through the messages to make sure we weren't hacked and sending out spam. Everything is fine and it turns out that a bot had filled out our Request Info form multiple times with bad info. However, I did find one that was a legitimate request for more information about our company and I noticed that it isn't sending because they fat-fingered the address with gmal.com. Is there a way I can correct that and have Postfix send it out? This is on a CentOS server.

• Setup non-MS email (gmail) in Windows 8 Mail app

  All documentation I have found online seems to apply to an older or different version of Windows 8. I am using the 90 evaluation copy of Windows 8 Enterprise (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/jj554510.aspx). Is it disabled because it is enterprise edition? Basically, I can start the mail app, bring up the settings (windows+i), but all I am given for options are Permissions and Rate and Review. In other documentation I've seen this is where you add an account. Is this possible? If this is a restriction to Windows 8 Enterprise, is there a trial version of normal Home editions somewhere?
