  • How do I programmatically send email w/attachment to a known recipient using MAPI in C++? MAPISendM

    - by Tim
    This question is similar, but does not show how to add a recipient. How do I do both? We'd like the widest support possible for as many Windows platforms as possible (from XP and greater) We're using visual studio 2008 Essentially we want to send an email with: pre-filled destination address file attachment subject line from our program and give the user the ability to add any information or cancel it. EDIT I am trying to use MAPISendMail() I copied much of the code from the questions linked near the top, but I get no email dlg box and the error return I get from the call is: 0x000f - "The system cannot find the drive specified" If I comment out the lines to set the recipient, it works fine (of course then I have no recipient pre-filled in) Here is the code: #include <tchar.h> #include <windows.h> #include <mapi.h> #include <mapix.h> int _tmain( int argc, wchar_t *argv[] ) { HMODULE hMapiModule = LoadLibrary( _T( "mapi32.dll" ) ); if ( hMapiModule != NULL ) { LPMAPIINITIALIZE lpfnMAPIInitialize = NULL; LPMAPIUNINITIALIZE lpfnMAPIUninitialize = NULL; LPMAPILOGONEX lpfnMAPILogonEx = NULL; LPMAPISENDDOCUMENTS lpfnMAPISendDocuments = NULL; LPMAPISESSION lplhSession = NULL; LPMAPISENDMAIL lpfnMAPISendMail = NULL; lpfnMAPIInitialize = (LPMAPIINITIALIZE)GetProcAddress( hMapiModule, "MAPIInitialize" ); lpfnMAPIUninitialize = (LPMAPIUNINITIALIZE)GetProcAddress( hMapiModule, "MAPIUninitialize" ); lpfnMAPILogonEx = (LPMAPILOGONEX)GetProcAddress( hMapiModule, "MAPILogonEx" ); lpfnMAPISendDocuments = (LPMAPISENDDOCUMENTS)GetProcAddress( hMapiModule, "MAPISendDocuments" ); lpfnMAPISendMail = (LPMAPISENDMAIL)GetProcAddress( hMapiModule, "MAPISendMail" ); if ( lpfnMAPIInitialize && lpfnMAPIUninitialize && lpfnMAPILogonEx && lpfnMAPISendDocuments ) { HRESULT hr = (*lpfnMAPIInitialize)( NULL ); if ( SUCCEEDED( hr ) ) { hr = (*lpfnMAPILogonEx)( 0, NULL, NULL, MAPI_EXTENDED | MAPI_USE_DEFAULT, &lplhSession ); if ( SUCCEEDED( hr ) ) { // this opens the email client // create the msg. We need to add recipients AND subject AND the dmp file // file attachment MapiFileDesc filedesc; ::ZeroMemory(&filedesc, sizeof(filedesc)); filedesc.nPosition = (ULONG)-1; filedesc.lpszPathName = "E:\\Development\\Open\\testmail\\testmail.cpp"; // recipient(s) MapiRecipDesc recip; ::ZeroMemory(&recip, sizeof(recip)); recip.lpszName = "QA email"; recip.lpszAddress = "[email protected]"; // the message MapiMessage msg; ::ZeroMemory(&msg, sizeof(msg)); msg.lpszSubject = "Test"; msg.nRecipCount = 1; // if I comment out this line it works fine... msg.lpRecips = &recip; msg.nFileCount = 1; msg.lpFiles = &filedesc; hr = (*lpfnMAPISendMail)(0, NULL, &msg, MAPI_LOGON_UI|MAPI_DIALOG, 0); if ( SUCCEEDED( hr ) ) { hr = lplhSession->Logoff( 0, 0, 0 ); hr = lplhSession->Release(); lplhSession = NULL; } } } (*lpfnMAPIUninitialize)(); } FreeLibrary( hMapiModule ); } return 0; }

  • MySQL and INT auto_increment fields

    - by PHPguy
    Hello folks, I'm developing in LAMP (Linux+Apache+MySQL+PHP) since I remember myself. But one question was bugging me for years now. I hope you can help me to find an answer and point me into the right direction. Here is my challenge: Say, we are creating a community website, where we allow our users to register. The MySQL table where we store all users would look then like this: CREATE TABLE `users` ( `uid` int(2) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment COMMENT 'User ID', `name` varchar(20) NOT NULL, `password` varchar(32) NOT NULL COMMENT 'Password is saved as a 32-bytes hash, never in plain text', `email` varchar(64) NOT NULL, `created` int(11) unsigned NOT NULL default '0' COMMENT 'Timestamp of registration', `updated` int(11) unsigned NOT NULL default '0' COMMENT 'Timestamp of profile update, e.g. change of email', PRIMARY KEY (`uid`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8; So, from this snippet you can see that we have a unique and automatically incrementing for every new user 'uid' field. As on every good and loyal community website we need to provide users with possibility to completely delete their profile if they want to cancel their participation in our community. Here comes my problem. Let's say we have 3 registered users: Alice (uid = 1), Bob (uid = 2) and Chris (uid = 3). Now Bob want to delete his profile and stop using our community. If we delete Bob's profile from the 'users' table then his missing 'uid' will create a gap which will be never filled again. In my opinion it's a huge waste of uid's. I see 3 possible solutions here: 1) Increase the capacity of the 'uid' field in our table from SMALLINT (int(2)) to, for example, BIGINT (int(8)) and ignore the fact that some of the uid's will be wasted. 2) introduce the new field 'is_deleted', which will be used to mark deleted profiles (but keep them in the table, instead of deleting them) to re-utilize their uid's for newly registered users. The table will look then like this: CREATE TABLE `users` ( `uid` int(2) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment COMMENT 'User ID', `name` varchar(20) NOT NULL, `password` varchar(32) NOT NULL COMMENT 'Password is saved as a 32-bytes hash, never in plain text', `email` varchar(64) NOT NULL, `is_deleted` int(1) unsigned NOT NULL default '0' COMMENT 'If equal to "1" then the profile has been deleted and will be re-used for new registrations', `created` int(11) unsigned NOT NULL default '0' COMMENT 'Timestamp of registration', `updated` int(11) unsigned NOT NULL default '0' COMMENT 'Timestamp of profile update, e.g. change of email', PRIMARY KEY (`uid`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8; 3) Write a script to shift all following user records once a previous record has been deleted. E.g. in our case when Bob (uid = 2) decides to remove his profile, we would replace his record with the record of Chris (uid = 3), so that uid of Chris becomes qual to 2 and mark (is_deleted = '1') the old record of Chris as vacant for the new users. In this case we keep the chronological order of uid's according to the registration time, so that the older users have lower uid's. Please, advice me now which way is the right way to handle the gaps in the auto_increment fields. This is just one example with users, but such cases occur very often in my programming experience. Thanks in advance!

  • Android Alert Dialog Extract User Choice Radio Button?

    - by kel196
    Apologies for any coding ignorance, I am a beginner and am still learning! I am creating a quiz app which reads questions off a SQL database and plots them as points on a google map. As the user clicks each point, an alert dialog appears with radio buttons to answer some question. My radiobuttons are in CustomItemizedOverlay file and when I click submit, I want to be able to send the user choice back to the database, save it and return to the user if their answer is correct. My question is this, how do I pass the user choice out once the submit button has been clicked? I tried making a global variable to read what was selected to no avail. Any suggestions would be appreciated! If I need to post any other code, please ask and I will do so ASAP! package uk.ac.ucl.cege.cegeg077.uceskkw; import java.util.ArrayList; import android.app.AlertDialog; import android.content.Context; import android.content.DialogInterface; import android.graphics.drawable.Drawable; import android.widget.Toast; import com.google.android.maps.ItemizedOverlay; import com.google.android.maps.OverlayItem; public class CustomItemizedOverlay2 extends ItemizedOverlay<OverlayItem> { private ArrayList<OverlayItem> mapOverlays = new ArrayList<OverlayItem>(); private Context context; public CustomItemizedOverlay2(Drawable defaultMarker) { super(boundCenterBottom(defaultMarker)); } public CustomItemizedOverlay2(Drawable defaultMarker, Context context) { this(defaultMarker); this.context = context; } @Override protected OverlayItem createItem(int i) { return mapOverlays.get(i); } @Override public int size() { return mapOverlays.size(); } @Override protected boolean onTap(int index) { OverlayItem item = mapOverlays.get(index); // gets the snippet from ParseKMLAndDisplayOnMap and splits it back into // a string. final CharSequence allanswers[] = item.getSnippet().split("::"); AlertDialog.Builder dialog = new AlertDialog.Builder(context); dialog.setIcon(R.drawable.easterbunnyegg); dialog.setTitle(item.getTitle()); dialog.setSingleChoiceItems(allanswers, -1, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { Toast.makeText(context, "You have selected " + allanswers[whichButton], Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } }); dialog.setPositiveButton(R.string.button_submit, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { dialog.dismiss(); // int selectedPosition = ((AlertDialog) // dialog).getListView().getCheckedItemPosition(); Toast.makeText(context, "hi!", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT) .show(); } }); dialog.setNegativeButton(R.string.button_close, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { dialog.dismiss(); // on cancel button action } }); AlertDialog question = dialog.create(); question.show(); return true; } public void addOverlay(OverlayItem overlay) { mapOverlays.add(overlay); this.populate(); } }

  • Running code when all threads are finished processing.

    - by rich97
    Quick note: Java and Android noob here, I'm open to you telling me I'm stupid (as long as you tell me why.) I have an android application which requires me start multiple threads originating from various classes and only advance to the next activity once all threads have done their job. I also want to add a "failsafe" timeout in case one the the threads takes too long (HTTP request taking too long or something.) I searched Stack Overflow and found a post saying that I should create a class to keep a running total of open threads and then use a timer to poll for when all the threads are completed. I think I've created a working class to do this for me, it's untested as of yet but has no errors showing in eclipse. Is this a correct implementation? Are there any APIs that I should be made aware of (such as classes in the Java or Android APIs that could be used in place of the abstract classes at the bottom of the class?) package com.dmp.geofix.libs; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.Iterator; import java.util.Timer; import java.util.TimerTask; public class ThreadMonitor { private Timer timer = null; private TimerTask timerTask = null; private OnSuccess onSuccess = null; private OnError onError = null; private static ArrayList<Thread> threads; private final int POLL_OPEN_THREADS = 100; private final int TIMEOUT = 10000; public ThreadMonitor() { timerTask = new PollThreadsTask(); } public ThreadMonitor(OnSuccess s) { timerTask = new PollThreadsTask(); onSuccess = s; } public ThreadMonitor(OnError e) { timerTask = new PollThreadsTask(); onError = e; } public ThreadMonitor(OnSuccess s, OnError e) { timerTask = new PollThreadsTask(); onSuccess = s; onError = e; } public void start() { Iterator<Thread> i = threads.iterator(); while (i.hasNext()) { i.next().start(); } timer = new Timer(); timer.schedule(timerTask, 0, POLL_OPEN_THREADS); } public void finish() { Iterator<Thread> i = threads.iterator(); while (i.hasNext()) { i.next().interrupt(); } threads.clear(); timer.cancel(); } public void addThread(Thread t) { threads.add(t); } public void removeThread(Thread t) { threads.remove(t); t.interrupt(); } class PollThreadsTask extends TimerTask { private int timeElapsed = 0; @Override public void run() { timeElapsed += POLL_OPEN_THREADS; if (timeElapsed <= TIMEOUT) { if (threads.isEmpty() == false) { if (onSuccess != null) { onSuccess.run(); } } } else { if (onError != null) { onError.run(); } finish(); } } } public abstract class OnSuccess { public abstract void run(); } public abstract class OnError { public abstract void run(); } }

  • How to make Net::Msmnr run?

    - by codeholic
    There's Net::Msmgr module on CPAN. It's written clean and the code looks trustworthy at the first glance. However this module seems to be beta and there is little documentation and no tests :-/ Has anyone used this module in production? I haven't managed to make it run by now, because it requires all event loop processing to be done in the application and as I've already said there is little documentation and no working examples to study. That's where I've gone so far: #!/usr/bin/perl use strict; use warnings; use Event; use Net::Msmgr::Object; use Net::Msmgr::Session; use Net::Msmgr::User; use constant DEBUG => 511; use constant EVENT_TIMEOUT => 5; # seconds my ($username, $password) = qw/[email protected] my.password/; my $buddy = '[email protected]'; my $user = Net::Msmgr::User->new(user => $username, password => $password); my $session = Net::Msmgr::Session->new; $session->debug(DEBUG); $session->login_handler(\&login_handler); $session->user($user); my $conv; sub login_handler { my $self = shift; print "LOGIN\n"; $self->ui_state_nln; $conv = $session->ui_new_conversation; $conv->invite($buddy); } our %watcher; sub ConnectHandler { my ($connection) = @_; warn "CONNECT\n"; my $socket = $connection->socket; $watcher{$connection} = Event->io(fd => $socket, cb => [ $connection, '_recv_message' ], poll => 're', desc => 'recv_watcher', repeat => 1); } sub DisconnectHandler { my $connection = shift; print "DISCONNECT\n"; $watcher{$connection}->cancel; } $session->connect_handler(\&ConnectHandler); $session->disconnect_handler(\&DisconnectHandler); $session->Login; Event::loop(); That's what it outputs: Dispatch Server connecting to: messenger.hotmail.com:1863 Dispatch Server connected CONNECT Dispatch Server >>>VER 1 MSNP2 CVR0 --> VER 1 MSNP2 CVR0 Dispatch Server >>>USR 2 MD5 I [email protected] --> USR 2 MD5 I [email protected] Dispatch Server <<<VER 1 CVR0 <-- VER 1 CVR0 And that's all, here it hangs. The handler on login is not being triggered. What am I doing wrong?

  • gtk draw "expose-event" and redraw

    - by warem
    I want to use expose-event to draw something then update or redraw. That's to say, there are a drawing area and a button in window. When clicking button, the drawing area will be redrawn accordingly. My problems are Following code worked but it only had a drawing area no button. If I add the button(cancel the comment for button), nothing is drawn. What's the reason? In the following code, if I changed gtk_container_add (GTK_CONTAINER (box), canvas); to gtk_box_pack_start(GTK_BOX(box), canvas, FALSE, FALSE, 0);, nothing is drawn. Usually we use gtk_box_pack_start to add something into box. Why doesn't it work this time? The function build_ACC_axis refreshed drawing area and prepared for new draw. I google it but I didn't know if it worked. Could you please comment on it? If the source file is test.c, then compilation is gcc -o test test.c `pkg-config --cflags --libs gtk+-2.0` The code is below: #include <gtk/gtk.h> #include <glib.h> static void draw (GdkDrawable *d, GdkGC *gc) { /* Draw with GDK */ gdk_draw_line (d, gc, 0, 0, 50, 50); gdk_draw_line (d, gc, 50, 50, 50, 150); gdk_draw_line (d, gc, 50, 150, 0, 200); gdk_draw_line (d, gc, 200, 0, 150, 50); gdk_draw_line (d, gc, 150, 50, 150, 150); gdk_draw_line (d, gc, 150, 150, 200, 200); gdk_draw_line (d, gc, 50, 50, 150, 50); gdk_draw_line (d, gc, 50, 150, 150, 150); } static gboolean expose_cb (GtkWidget *canvas, GdkEventExpose *event, gpointer user_data) { GdkGC *gc; gc = gdk_gc_new (canvas->window); draw (canvas->window, gc); g_object_unref (gc); return FALSE; } void build_ACC_axis (GtkWidget *button, GtkWidget *widget) { GdkRegion *region; GtkWidget *canvas = g_object_get_data(G_OBJECT(widget), "plat_GA_canvas"); region = gdk_drawable_get_visible_region(canvas->window); gdk_window_invalidate_region(canvas->window, region, TRUE); gtk_widget_queue_draw(canvas); /* gdk_window_process_updates(canvas->window, TRUE); */ gdk_region_destroy (region); } int main (int argc, char **argv) { GtkWidget *window; GtkWidget *canvas, *box, *button; gtk_init (&argc, &argv); window = gtk_window_new (GTK_WINDOW_TOPLEVEL); g_signal_connect (G_OBJECT (window), "destroy", G_CALLBACK (gtk_main_quit), NULL); box = gtk_vbox_new(FALSE, 0); gtk_container_add (GTK_CONTAINER (window), box); canvas = gtk_drawing_area_new (); g_object_set_data(G_OBJECT(window), "plat_GA_canvas", canvas); /* gtk_box_pack_start(GTK_BOX(box), canvas, FALSE, FALSE, 0); */ gtk_container_add (GTK_CONTAINER (box), canvas); g_signal_connect (G_OBJECT (canvas), "expose-event", G_CALLBACK (expose_cb), NULL); /* button = gtk_button_new_with_label ("ok"); gtk_box_pack_start(GTK_BOX(box), button, FALSE, FALSE, 0); |+ gtk_container_add (GTK_CONTAINER (box), button); +| gtk_signal_connect(GTK_OBJECT(button), "clicked", GTK_SIGNAL_FUNC(build_ACC_axis), window); */ gtk_widget_show_all (window); gtk_main (); }

  • Problem with the output of Jquery function .offset in IE

    - by vandalk
    Hello! I'm new to jquery and javascript, and to web site developing overall, and I'm having a problem with the .offset function. I have the following code working fine on chrome and FF but not working on IE: $(document).keydown(function(k){ var keycode=k.which; var posk=$('html').offset(); var centeryk=screen.availHeight*0.4; var centerxk=screen.availWidth*0.4; $("span").text(k.which+","+posk.top+","+posk.left); if (keycode==37){ k.preventDefault(); $("html,body").stop().animate({scrollLeft:-1*posk.left-centerxk}) }; if (keycode==38){ k.preventDefault(); $("html,body").stop().animate({scrollTop:-1*posk.top-centeryk}) }; if (keycode==39){ k.preventDefault(); $("html,body").stop().animate({scrollLeft:-1*posk.left+centerxk}) }; if (keycode==40){ k.preventDefault(); $("html,body").stop().animate({scrollTop:-1*posk.top+centeryk}) }; }); hat I want it to do is to scroll the window a set percentage using the arrow keys, so my thought was to find the current coordinates of the top left corner of the document and add a percentage relative to the user screen to it and animate the scroll so that the content don't jump and the user looses focus from where he was. The $("span").text are just so I know what's happening and will be turned into comments when the code is complete. So here is what happens, on Chrome and Firefox the output of the $("span").text for the position variables is correct, starting at 0,0 and always showing how much of the content was scrolled in coordinates, but on IE it starts on -2,-2 and never gets out of it, even if I manually scroll the window until the end of it and try using the right arrow key it will still return the initial value of -2,-2 and scroll back to the beggining. I tried substituting the offset for document.body.scrollLetf and scrollTop but the result is the same, only this time the coordinates are 0,0. Am I doing something wrong? Or is this some IE bug? Is there a way around it or some other function I can use and achieve the same results? On another note, I did other two navigating options for the user in this section of the site, one is to click and drag anywhere on the screen to move it: $("html").mousedown(function(e) { var initx=e.pageX var inity=e.pageY $(document).mousemove(function(n) { var x_inc= initx-n.pageX; var y_inc= inity-n.pageY; window.scrollBy(x_inc*0.7,y_inc*0.7); initx=n.pageX; inity=n.pageY //$("span").text(initx+ "," +inity+ "," +x_inc+ "," +y_inc+ "," +e.pageX+ "," +e.pageY+ "," +n.pageX+ "," +n.pageY); // cancel out any text selections document.body.focus(); // prevent text selection in IE document.onselectstart = function () { return false; }; // prevent IE from trying to drag an image document.ondragstart = function() { return false; }; // prevent text selection (except IE) return false; }); }); $("html").mouseup(function() { $(document).unbind('mousemove'); }); The only part of this code I didn't write was the preventing text selection lines, these ones I found in a tutorial about clicking and draging objects, anyway, this code works fine on Chrome, FireFox and IE, though on Firefox and IE it's more often to happen some moviment glitches while you drag, sometimes it seems the "scrolling" is a litlle jagged, it's only a visual thing and not that much significant but if there's a way to prevent it I would like to know.

  • Rails: (Devise) Two different methods for new users?

    - by neezer
    I have a Rails 3 app with authentication setup using Devise with the registerable module enabled. I want to have new users who sign up using our outside register form to use the full Devise registerable module, which is happening now. However, I also want the admin user to be able to create new users directly, bypassing (I think) Devise's registerable module. With registerable disabled, my standard UsersController works as I want it to for the admin user, just like any other Rail scaffold. However, now new users can't register on their own. With registerable enabled, my standard UsersController is never called for the new user action (calling Devise::RegistrationsController instead), and my CRUD actions don't seem to work at all (I get dumped back onto my root page with no new user created and no flash message). Here's the log from the request: Started POST "/users" for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-12-20 11:49:31 -0500 Processing by Devise::RegistrationsController#create as HTML Parameters: {"utf8"=>"?", "authenticity_token"=>"18697r4syNNWHfMTkDCwcDYphjos+68rPFsaYKVjo8Y=", "user"=>{"email"=>"[email protected]", "password"=>"[FILTERED]", "password_confirmation"=>"[FILTERED]", "role"=>"manager"}, "commit"=>"Create User"} SQL (0.9ms) ... User Load (0.6ms) SELECT "users".* FROM "users" WHERE ("users"."id" = 2) LIMIT 1 SQL (0.9ms) ... Redirected to http://test-app.local/ Completed 302 Found in 192ms ... but I am able to register new users through the outside form. How can I get both of these methods to work together, such that my admin user can manually create new users and guest users can register on their own? I have my Users controller setup for standard CRUD: class UsersController < ApplicationController load_and_authorize_resource def index @users = User.where("id NOT IN (?)", current_user.id) # don't display the current user in the users list; go to account management to edit current user details end def new @user = User.new end def create @user = User.new(params[:user]) if @user.save flash[:notice] = "#{ @user.email } created." redirect_to users_path else render :action => 'new' end end def edit end def update params[:user].delete(:password) if params[:user][:password].blank? params[:user].delete(:password_confirmation) if params[:user][:password].blank? and params[:user][:password_confirmation].blank? if @user.update_attributes(params[:user]) flash[:notice] = "Successfully updated User." redirect_to users_path else render :action => 'edit' end end def delete end def destroy redirect_to users_path and return if params[:cancel] if @user.destroy flash[:notice] = "#{ @user.email } deleted." redirect_to users_path end end end And my routes setup as follows: TestApp::Application.routes.draw do devise_for :users devise_scope :user do get "/login", :to => "devise/sessions#new", :as => :new_user_session get "/logout", :to => "devise/sessions#destroy", :as => :destroy_user_session end resources :users do get :delete, :on => :member end authenticate :user do root :to => "application#index" end root :to => "devise/session#new" end

  • Simple Modal Window + jQuery Cookie

    - by w00t
    I use this plugin jQuery Simple Modal Window to display a modal window. I also use jQuery Cookie Plugin (jquery.cookie.js) to set cookies. How can I mix jQuery Simple Modal Window and jQuery Cookie? It`s necessary that after clicking on the "Continue" button, the cookies were set and the modal window in the future doesnt appear to users. I'm sorry, I'm just the beginner. This is my code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title></title> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.cookie.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { //Put in the DIV id you want to display launchWindow('#alert'); //if close button is clicked $('.window .close').click(function (e) { $('#mask').hide(); $('.window').hide(); }); }); //if close button is clicked $('.window .close').click(function (e) { //Cancel the link behavior e.preventDefault(); $('#mask').hide(); $('.window').hide(); }); //if mask is clicked $('#mask').click(function () { $(this).hide(); $('.window').hide(); }); function launchWindow(id) { //Get the screen height and width var maskHeight = $(document).height(); var maskWidth = $(window).width(); //Set heigth and width to mask to fill up the whole screen $('#mask').css({'width':maskWidth,'height':maskHeight}); //transition effect $('#mask').fadeIn(1000); $('#mask').fadeTo("slow",0.95); //Get the window height and width var winH = $(window).height(); var winW = $(window).width(); //Set the popup window to center $(id).css('top', winH/2-$(id).height()/2); $(id).css('left', winW/2-$(id).width()/2); //transition effect $(id).fadeIn(2000); } </script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $('#button').click(function(e) { $.cookie('the_cookie', '1', { expires: 999 }); }); }); </script> </head> <body> <!-- Start alert block --> <div id='boxes'> <div id='alert' class='window'> some text... <input type="button" id="button" value="" class='close warn_buttons'/> </div> <!-- Mask --> <div id='mask'></div> </div> <!-- End alert block --> </body> </html>

  • Pass existing model into AJAX PartialViewResult

    - by Joe
    I’m using AJAX to asynchronously update a partial view and need to pass the existing model into the partial view. Controller Action public ActionResult Edit(int id) { var vM = new MyViewModel(); // vM is viewModel return View(vM); } Edit View @using (Html.BeginForm()) { @Html.ValidationSummary(true) ... <span id = "Ship"> @Html.Partial("AJAX_Views/_Ship")</span> _Ship Partial View @model MyProject.ViewModels.MyViewModel <table class="detailtable" style="min-width:398px"> <tr> <th style="padding-left:132px" colspan="2"> <span class="editor-label">Shipping&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Address</span> <span class="editor-label" style="padding-left:55px"> @Ajax.ActionLink("Delete", "SHIPDEL", new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "Ship", InsertionMode = InsertionMode.Replace, HttpMethod = "Get" })</span> <tr><th style="min-width:152px"><span class="editor-label">Street:</span></th> @Html.HiddenFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.Id) @Html.HiddenFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.CompPersonId) @Html.HiddenFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.IsShip) <td><span class="editor-field">@Html.EditorFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.Street) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.Street) </span></td></tr> <tr><th><span class="editor-label">City:</span></th> <td><span class="editor-field">@Html.EditorFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.City) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.City) </span></td></tr> <tr><th><span class="editor-label">State:</span></th> <td><span class="editor-field">@Html.DropDownList("CmpAdrsSh.State", (IEnumerable<SelectListItem>)ViewBag._State) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.State) </span></td></tr> <tr><th><span class="editor-label">Zip:</span></th> <td><span class="editor-field">@Html.EditorFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.Zip) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.Zip) </span></td></tr> _ShipDel Partial View @model MyProject.ViewModels.MyViewModel <table class="detailtable" style="min-width:398px"> <tr> <th style="padding-left:132px" colspan="2"> <span class="editor-label">Shipping&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Address</span> <span class="editor-label" style="padding-left:10px; color:red">Marked for Deletion.</span></th></tr> <tr><td>To not Delete Select Cancel below!</td></tr> @Html.HiddenFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.Street) @Html.HiddenFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.City) @Html.HiddenFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.State) @Html.HiddenFor(m => m.CmpAdrsSh.Zip) Controller PartialViewResult Action public PartialViewResult SHIPDEL() { return PartialView("AJAX_Views/_ShipDel"); } I tried adding this.ModelState to the Action but then the view will not render. I'm guessing I somehow have to pass the model to the SHIPDEL Action first. I couldn't find an @Ajax.ActionLink overload that would allow this. public PartialViewResult SHIPDEL() { return PartialView("AJAX_Views/_ShipDel", this.ModelState); } In the _ShipDel Partial View I need to expose the CmpAdrsSh properties so the model validates in the POST Action. The model is empty at this point. How do I pass the existing vM model into the _ShipDel partial view? Thank you,

  • jQuery encoding values differently than expected for jQuery.ajax data elements

    - by Adam Tuttle
    I'm using jQuery.ajax() to make a PUT request to a REST web service, but seeing some really strange serialization behavior. (Before you say it: Yes, I know that not all browsers support PUT -- this is just an example implementation for an api/framework, and ultimately will not be called by a browser, but rather by a server-side library that does support the extra http verbs.) Here's the form: <form action="/example/api/artist" method="put" id="update"> First Name: <input type="text" name="firstname" /><br/> Last Name: <input type="text" name="lastname" /><br/> Address: <input type="text" name="address" /><br/> City: <input type="text" name="city" /><br/> State: <input type="text" name="state" /><br/> Postal Code: <input type="text" name="postalcode" /><br/> Email: <input type="text" name="email" /><br/> Phone: <input type="text" name="phone" /><br/> Fax: <input type="text" name="fax" /><br/> Password: <input type="text" name="thepassword" /><br/> <input type="hidden" name="debug" value="true" /> <input type="submit" value="Update Artist" /> <input type="reset" value="Cancel" id="updateCancel" /> </form> And the JS: $("#update").submit(function(e){ e.preventDefault(); var frm = $(this); $.ajax({ url: frm.attr('action'), data:{ firstname: $("#update input[name=firstname]").val(), lastname: $("#update input[name=lastname]").val(), address: $("#update input[name=address]").val(), city: $("#update input[name=city]").val(), state: $("#update input[name=state]").val(), postalcode: $("#update input[name=postalcode]").val(), email: $("#update input[name=email]").val(), phone: $("#update input[name=phone]").val(), fax: $("#update input[name=fax]").val(), thepassword: $("#update input[name=thepassword]").val() }, type: frm.attr('method'), dataType: "json", contentType: "application/json", success: function (data, textStatus, xhr){ console.log(data); reloadData(); }, error: function (xhr, textStatus, err){ console.log(textStatus); console.log(err); } }); }); When using FireBug, I see the request go through as this: firstname=Austin&lastname=Weber&address=25463+Main+Street%2C+Suite+C&city=Berkeley&state=CA&postalcode=94707-4513&email=austin%40life.com&phone=555-513-4318&fax=510-513-4888&thepassword=nopolyes That's not horrible, but ideally I'd rather get %20 instead of + for spaces. I tried wrapping each field value lookup in an escape: firstname: escape($("#update input[name=firstname]").val()) But that makes things worse: firstname=Austin&lastname=Weber&address=25463%2520Main%2520Street%252C%2520Suite%2520C&city=Berkeley&state=CA&postalcode=94707-4513&email=austin%40life.com&phone=555-513-4318&fax=510-513-4888&thepassword=nopolyes In this case, the value is being escaped twice; so first the space is encoded to %20, and then the % sign is escaped to %25 resulting in the %2520 for spaces, and %252C for the comma in the address field. What am I doing wrong here?

  • How can I hit my database with an AJAX call using javascript?

    - by tmedge
    I am pretty new at this stuff, so bear with me. I am using ASP.NET MVC. I have created an overlay to cover the page when someone clicks a button corresponding to a certain database entry. Because of this, ALL of my code for this functionality is in a .js file contained within my project. What I need to do is pull the info corresponding to my entry from the database itself using an AJAX call, and place that into my textboxes. Then, after the end-user has made the desired changes, I need to update that entry's values to match the input. I've been surfing the web for a while, and have failed to find an example that fits my needs effectively. Here is my code in my javascript file thus far: function editOverlay(picId) { //pull up an overlay $('body').append('<div class="overlay" />'); var $overlayClass = $('.overlay'); $overlayClass.append('<div class="dataModal" />'); var $data = $('.dataModal'); overlaySetup($overlayClass, $data); //set up form $data.append('<h1>Edit Picture</h1><br /><br />'); $data.append('Picture name: &nbsp;'); $data.append('<input class="picName" /> <br /><br /><br />'); $data.append('Relative url: &nbsp;'); $data.append('<input class="picRelURL" /> <br /><br /><br />'); $data.append('Description: &nbsp;'); $data.append('<textarea class="picDescription" /> <br /><br /><br />'); var $nameBox = $('.picName'); var $urlBox = $('.picRelURL'); var $descBox = $('.picDescription'); var pic = null; //this is where I need to pull the actual object from the db //var imgList = for (var temp in imgList) { if (temp.Id == picId) { pic= temp; } } /* $nameBox.attr('value', pic.Name); $urlBox.attr('value', pic.RelativeURL); $descBox.attr('value', pic.Description); */ //close buttons $data.append('<input type="button" value="Save Changes" class="saveButton" />'); $data.append('<input type="button" value="Cancel" class="cancelButton" />'); $('.saveButton').click(function() { /* pic.Name = $nameBox.attr('value'); pic.RelativeURL = $urlBox.attr('value'); pic.Description = $descBox.attr('value'); */ //make a call to my Save() method in my repository CloseOverlay(); }); $('.cancelButton').click(function() { CloseOverlay(); }); } The stuff I have commented out is what I need to accomplish and/or is not available until prior issues are resolved. Any and all advice is appreciated! Remember, I am VERY new to this stuff (two weeks, to be exact) and will probably need highly explicit instructions. BTW: overlaySetup() and CloseOverlay() are functions I have living someplace else. Thanks!

  • AsyncTask, inner classes and Buttons states

    - by Intern John Smith
    For a musical application (a sequencer), I have a few buttons static ArrayList<Button> Buttonlist = new ArrayList<Button>(); Buttonlist.add(0,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick1)); Buttonlist.add(1,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick2)); Buttonlist.add(2,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick3)); Buttonlist.add(3,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick4)); Buttonlist.add(4,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick5)); Buttonlist.add(5,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick6)); Buttonlist.add(6,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick7)); Buttonlist.add(7,(Button) findViewById(R.id.case_kick8)); that I activate through onClickListeners with for example Buttonlist.get(0).setActivated(true); I played the activated sound via a loop and ifs : if (Buttonlist.get(k).isActivated()) {mSoundManager.playSound(1); Thread.sleep(250);} The app played fine but I couldn't access the play/pause button when it was playing : I searched and found out about AsyncTasks. I have a nested class PlayPause : class PlayPause extends AsyncTask<ArrayList<Button>,Integer,Void> in which I have this : protected Void doInBackground(ArrayList<Button>... params) { for(int k=0;k<8;k++) { boolean isPlayed = false; if (Buttonlist.get(k).isActivated()) { mSoundManager.playSound(1); isPlayed = true; try {Thread.sleep(250); } catch (InterruptedException e) {e.printStackTrace();}} if(!isPlayed){ try {Thread.sleep(250);} catch (InterruptedException e) {e.printStackTrace();} } } return null; } I launch it via Play.setOnClickListener(new PlayClickListener()); with PlayClickListener : public class PlayClickListener implements OnClickListener { private Tutorial acti; public PlayClickListener(){ super(); } @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") public void onClick(View v) { if(Tutorial.play==0){ Tutorial.play=1; Tutorial.Play.setBackgroundResource(R.drawable.action_down); acti = new Tutorial(); Tutorial.PlayPause myPlayPause = acti.new PlayPause(); myLecture.execute(Tutorial.Buttonlist); } else { Tutorial.play=0; Tutorial.lecture.cancel(true); Tutorial.Play.setBackgroundResource(R.drawable.action); } } } But it doesn't work. when I click on buttons and I touch Play/Pause, I have this : 07-02 11:06:01.350: E/AndroidRuntime(7883): FATAL EXCEPTION: AsyncTask #1 07-02 11:06:01.350: E/AndroidRuntime(7883): Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException 07-02 11:06:01.350: E/AndroidRuntime(7883): at com.Tutorial.Tutorial$PlayPause.doInBackground(Tutorial.java:603) 07-02 11:06:01.350: E/AndroidRuntime(7883): at com.Tutorial.Tutorial$PlayPause.doInBackground(Tutorial.java:1) And I don't know how to get rid of this error. Obviously, the Asynctask doesn't find the Buttonlist activated status, even if the list is static. I don't know how to access these buttons' states, isPressed doesn't work either. Thanks for reading and helping me !

  • ANDROID: inside Service class, executing a method for Toast (or Status Bar notification) from schedu

    - by Peter SHINe ???
    I am trying to execute a {public void} method in Service, from scheduled TimerTask which is periodically executing. This TimerTask periodically checks a condition. If it's true, it calls method via {className}.{methodName}; However, as Java requires, the method needs to be {pubic static} method, if I want to use {className} with {.dot} The problem is this method is for notification using Toast(Android pop-up notification) and Status Bar To use these notifications, one must use Context context = getApplicationContext(); But for this to work, the method must not have {static} modifier and resides in Service class. So, basically, I want background Service to evaluate condition from scheduled TimerTask, and execute a method in Service class. Can anyone help me what's the right way to use Service, invoking a method when certain condition is satisfied while looping evaluation? Here are the actually lines of codes: The TimerTask class (WatchClipboard.java) : public class WatchClipboard extends TimerTask { //DECLARATION private static GetDefinition getDefinition = new GetDefinition(); @Override public void run() { if (WordUp.clipboard.hasText()) { WordUp.newCopied = WordUp.clipboard.getText().toString().trim().toLowerCase(); if (!(WordUp.currentCopied.equals(WordUp.newCopied))) { WordUp.currentCopied = WordUp.newCopied; Log.v(WordUp.TAG, WordUp.currentCopied); getDefinition.apiCall_Wordnik(); FetchService.instantNotification(); //it requires this method to have {static} modifier, if I want call in this way. } } } } And the Service class (FetchService.java) : If I change the modifier to static, {Context} related problems occur public class FetchService extends Service { public static final String TAG = "WordUp"; //for Logcat filtering //DECLARATION private static Timer runningTimer; private static final boolean THIS_IS_DAEMON = true; private static WatchClipboard watchClipboard; private static final long DELAY = 0; private static final long PERIOD = 100; @Override public IBinder onBind(Intent arg0) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub return null; } @Override public void onCreate() { Log.v(WordUp.TAG, "FetchService.onCreate()"); super.onCreate(); //TESTING SERVICE RUNNING watchClipboard = new WatchClipboard(); runningTimer = new Timer("runningTimer", THIS_IS_DAEMON); runningTimer.schedule(watchClipboard, DELAY, PERIOD); } @Override public void onDestroy() { super.onDestroy(); runningTimer.cancel(); stopSelf(); Log.v(WordUp.TAG, "FetchService.onCreate().stopSelf()"); } public void instantNotification() { //If I change the modifier to static, {Context} related problems occur Context context = getApplicationContext(); // application Context //use Toast notification: Need to accept user interaction, and change the duration of show Toast toast = Toast.makeText(context, WordUp.newCopied+": "+WordUp.newDefinition, Toast.LENGTH_LONG); toast.show(); //use Status notification: need to automatically expand to show lines of definitions NotificationManager mNotificationManager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE); int icon = R.drawable.icon; // icon from resources CharSequence tickerText = WordUp.newCopied; // ticker-text long when = System.currentTimeMillis(); // notification time CharSequence contentTitle = WordUp.newCopied; //expanded message title CharSequence contentText = WordUp.newDefinition; //expanded message text Intent notificationIntent = new Intent(this, WordUp.class); PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, notificationIntent, 0); // the next two lines initialize the Notification, using the configurations above Notification notification = new Notification(icon, tickerText, when); notification.setLatestEventInfo(context, contentTitle, contentText, contentIntent); mNotificationManager.notify(WordUp.WORDUP_STATUS, notification); } }

A modal opens with a Customer List for them to choose from. There selection populates the input fields in that modal. I need to have that new information put in the already populated input fields. plunkr <div class="form-group"> <div class="input-group"> <span class="input-group-addon">C. • Problems with this code?

    - by J4C3N-14
    I'm trying to use this code which is an example taken from here https://gist.github.com/2383248 , but it is coming up with a error on the public void onClick which is Multiple markers at this line - implements android.view.View.OnClickListener.onClick - Syntax error, insert "}" to complete MethodBody, but when I add the brace it just throws another error after many tries and fails of different suggestions and ideas. It may be a syntax error and bad coding from me (just started learning to program) but does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this or point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. public class ICSCalendarActivity extends Activity implements View.OnClickListener{ Button button1; int year1; int month1; int day1; int ShiftPattern; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); button1 = (Button)findViewById(R.id.openButton); button1.setText("open"); button1.setOnClickListener(this); Bundle extras = getIntent().getExtras(); year1 = extras.getInt("year1"); day1 = extras.getInt("day1"); month1 = extras.getInt("month1"); ShiftPattern = extras.getInt("ShiftPattern"); } public void onClick(View v){ private static void addToCalendar(Context ICSCalendarActivity, final String title, final long dtstart, final long dtend) { final ContentResolver cr = ICSCalendarActivity.getContentResolver(); Cursor cursor ; if (Integer.parseInt(Build.VERSION.SDK) >= 8 ) cursor = cr.query(Uri.parse("content://com.android.calendar/calendars"), new String[]{ "_id", "displayname" }, null, null, null); else cursor = cr.query(Uri.parse("content://calendar/calendars"), new String[]{ "_id", "displayname" }, null, null, null); if ( cursor.moveToFirst() ) { final String[] calNames = new String[cursor.getCount()]; final int[] calIds = new int[cursor.getCount()]; for (int i = 0; i < calNames.length; i++) { calIds[i] = cursor.getInt(0); calNames[i] = cursor.getString(1); cursor.moveToNext(); } AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(ICSCalendarActivity); builder.setSingleChoiceItems(calNames, -1, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int which) { ContentValues cv = new ContentValues(); cv.put("calendar_id", calIds[which]); cv.put("title", title); cv.put("dtstart", dtstart ); cv.put("hasAlarm", 1); cv.put("dtend", dtend); Uri newEvent ; if (Integer.parseInt(Build.VERSION.SDK) >= 8 ) newEvent = cr.insert(Uri.parse("content://com.android.calendar/events"), cv); else newEvent = cr.insert(Uri.parse("content://calendar/events"), cv); if (newEvent != null) { long id = Long.parseLong( newEvent.getLastPathSegment() ); ContentValues values = new ContentValues(); values.put( "event_id", id ); values.put( "method", 1 ); values.put( "minutes", 15 ); // 15 minutes if (Integer.parseInt(Build.VERSION.SDK) >= 8 ) cr.insert( Uri.parse( "content://com.android.calendar/reminders" ), values ); else cr.insert( Uri.parse( "content://calendar/reminders" ), values ); } dialog.cancel(); } }); builder.create().show(); } cursor.close(); } } Thank you.

  • How To Run XP Mode in VirtualBox on Windows 7 (sort of)

    - by Matthew Guay
    A few weeks ago we showed you how to run XP Mode on a Windows 7 computer without Hardware Virtualization using VMware. Some of you have been asking if it can be done in Virtual Box as well. The answer is “Yes!” and here we’ll show you how. Editor Update: Apparently there isn’t a way to activate XP Mode through VirtualBox using this method. You will however, be able to run it for 30 days. We have a new updated article on how to Install XP Mode with VirtualBox Using the VMLite Plugin.   Earlier we showed you how to run XP mode on windows 7 machines without hardware virtualization capability. Since then, a lot of you have been asking to a write up a tutorial about doing the same thing using VirtualBox.  This makes it another great way to run XP Mode if your computer does not have hardware virtualization.  Here we’ll see how to import the XP Mode from Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate into VirtualBox so you can run XP in it for free. Note: You need to have Windows 7 Professional or above to use XP Mode in this manner. In our tests we were able to get it to run on Home Premium as well, but you’ll be breaking Windows 7 licensing agreements. Getting Started First, download and install XP Mode (link below).  There is no need to download Virtual PC if your computer cannot run it, so just download the XP Mode from the link on the left. Install XP mode; just follow the default prompts as usual. Now, download and install VirtualBox 3.1.2 or higher(link below).  Install as normal, and simply follow the default prompts. VirtualBox may notify you that your network connection will be reset during the installation.  Press Yes to continue. During the install, you may see several popups asking you if you wish to install device drivers for USB and Network interfaces.  Simply click install, as these are needed for VirtualBox to run correctly. Setup only took a couple minutes, and doesn’t require a reboot. Setup XP Mode in VirtualBox: First we need to copy the default XP Mode so VirtualBox will not affect the original copy.  Browse to C:\Program Files\Windows XP Mode, and copy the file “Windows XP Mode base.vhd”.  Paste it in another folder of your choice, such as your Documents folder. Once you’ve copied the file, right-click on it and click Properties. Uncheck the “Read-only” box in this dialog, and then click Ok. Now, in VirtualBox, click New to create a new virtual machine. Enter the name of your virtual machine, and make sure the operating system selected is Windows XP. Choose how much memory you want to allow the virtual machine to use.  VirtualBox’ default is 192 Mb ram, but for better performance you can select 256 or 512Mb. Now, select the hard drive for the virtual machine.  Select “Use existing hard disk”, then click the folder button to choose the XP Mode virtual drive. In this window, click Add, and then browse to find the copy of XP Mode you previously made. Make sure the correct virtual drive is selected, then press Select. After selecting the VHD your screen should look like the following then click Next. Verify the settings you made are correct. If not, you can go back and make any changes. When everything looks correct click Finish. Setup XP Mode Now, in VirtualBox, click start to run XP Mode. The Windows XP in this virtual drive is not fully setup yet, so you will have to go through the setup process.   If you didn’t uncheck the “Read-only” box in the VHD properties before, you may see the following error.  If you see it, go back and check the file to makes sure it is not read-only. When you click in the virtual machine, it will capture your mouse by default.  Simply press the right Ctrl key to release your mouse so you can go back to using Windows 7.  This will only be the case during the setup process; after the Guest Additions are installed, the mouse will seamlessly move between operating systems. Now, accept the license agreement in XP.   Choose your correct locale and keyboard settings. Enter a name for your virtual XP, and an administrative password. Check the date, time, and time zone settings, and adjust them if they are incorrect.  The time and date are usually correct, but the time zone often has to be corrected. XP will now automatically finish setting up your virtual machine, and then will automatically reboot. After rebooting, select your automatic update settings. You may see a prompt to check for drivers; simply press cancel, as all the drivers we need will be installed later with the Guest Additions. Your last settings will be finalized, and finally you will see your XP desktop in VirtualBox. Please note that XP Mode may not remain activated after importing it into VirtualBox. When you activate it, use the key that is located at C:\Program Files\Windows XP Mode\key.txt.  Note: During our tests we weren’t able to get the activation to go through. We are looking into the issue and will have a revised article showing the correct way to get XP Mode in VirutalBox working correctly soon.    Now we have one final thing to install – the VirtualBox Guest Additions.  In the VirtualBox window, click “Devices” and then select “Install Guest Additions”. This should automatically launch in XP; if it doesn’t, click Start, then My Computer, and finally double-click on the CD drive which should say VirtualBox Guest Additions. Simply install with the normal presets. You can select to install an experimental 3D graphics driver if you wish to try to run games in XP in VirtualBox; however, do note that this is not fully supported and is currently a test feature. You may see a prompt informing you that the drivers have not passed Logo testing; simply press “Continue Anyway” to proceed with the installation.   When installation has completed, you will be required to reboot your virtual machine. Now, you can move your mouse directly from Windows XP to Windows 7 without pressing Ctrl. Integrating with Windows 7 Once your virtual machine is rebooted, you can integrate it with your Windows 7 desktop.  In the VirtualBox window, click Machine and then select “Seamless Mode”.   In Seamless mode you’ll have the XP Start menu and taskbar sit on top of your Windows 7 Start and Taskbar. Here we see XP running on Virtual Box in Seamless Mode. We have the old XP WordPad sitting next to the new Windows 7 version of WordPad. Another view of everything running seamlessly together on the same Windows 7 desktop. Hover the pointer over the XP taskbar to pull up the Virtual Box menu items. You can exit out of Seamless Mode from the VirtualBox menu or using “Ctrl+L”. Then you go back to having it run separately on your desktop again. Conclusion Running XP Mode in a Virtual Machine is a great way to experience the feature on computers without Hardware Virtualization capabilities. If it’s the first time that you hear about Microsoft All-In-One Code Framework, please watch the introduction video on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cO5Li3APU58, or read the introduction on our homepage http://1code.codeplex.com/,  and this Port25 article http://port25.technet.com/archive/2010/01/18/the-all-in-one-code-framework.aspx.  -------------- New ASP.NET Code Samples VBASPNETAJAXWebChat and CSASPNETAJAXWebChat Most of you have some experience in chatting with friends on the web. So you may want to know how to make a web chat application, it seems to be quite complicated. But ASP.NET gives you the power to buiild a chat room easily. In this code sample, we will construct our own web chat room with the amazing AJAX feature. The principle is simple relatively. As we all know, a base chat application need 4 base controls: one List control to show the chat room members, one List control to show the message list, one TextBox control to input messages and one button to send message. User inputs his message in the textbox first and then presses Send button, it will send the message to the server. The message list will update every 2 seconds to get the newest message list in the chat room from the server. We need to know, it is hard for us to make an AJAX web chat application like a windows form application because we cannot keep the connection after one web request ended. So a lot of events which communicates between client side and server side cannot be realized. The common workaround is to make web requests in every some seconds to check whether the server side has been updated. But another technique called COMET makes it possible. But it is different with AJAX and will not be talked in details in this KB. For more details about COMET, we can get some clues from the Reference.   CSASPNETCurrentOnlineUserList and VBASPNETCurrentOnlineUserList This sample demos a system that needs to display a list of current online users' information. As a matter of fact, Membership.GetNumberOfUsersOnline Method  can get the number of online users and there is a convenient approach to check whether the user is online by using Membership.GetUser(string userName).IsOnline property,however many asp.net projects are not using membership.So in this case,the sample shows how to display a list of current online users' information without using membership provider. It is not difficult to check whether the user is online by using session.Many projects tend to be used “Session_End” event to mark a user as “Offline”,however ,it may not be a good idea,because it can’t detect the user status accurately. In addition, "Session_End" event is only available in the "InProc" session mode. If you are storing session states in the State Server or SQL Server, "Session_End" event will never fire. To handle this issue, we need to save the user online status to a  global DataTable or  DataBase. In the sample application, define a global DataTable to store the information of online users.Use XmlHttpRequest in the pages to update and check user's last active time at intervals and also retrieve information on how many users are still online. The sample project can auto delete offline users' information from a global DataTable by checking users’ last active time. A step-by-step guide illustrating how to display a list of current online users' information without using membership provider: 1. Login page. Let user sign in and add current user’s information to a global datatable while Initialize the global datatable which used to store information of current online users. 2. Current online user list page. Use XmlHttpRequest in this page to update and check user's last active time at intervals and also retrieve information on how many users are still online. 3. If user closes the page without clicking  the sign out link button ,the sample project can auto mark the user as offline and delete offline users' information from a global DataTable which used to store information of current online users  by checking users’ last active time. Then the current online user list will be like this:   CSASPNETIPtoLocation This sample demonstrates how to find the geographical location from an IP address. As we know, it is not hard for us to get the IP address of visitors via Request.ServerVariable property, but it is really difficult for us to know where they come from. To achieve this feature, the sample uses a free third party web service from http://freegeoip.appspot.com/, which returns the information about an IP address we send to the server in the format of XML, JSON or CSV. It makes all things easier.   CSASPNETBackgroundWorker Sometimes we do an operation which needs long time to complete. It will stop the response and the page is blank until the operation finished. In this case, we want the operation to run in the background, and in the page, we want to display the progress of the running operation. Therefore, the user can know the operation is running and can know the progress. CSASPNETInheritingFromTreeNode In windows forms TreeView, each tree node has a property called "Tag" which can be used to store a custom object. Many customers want to implement the same tag feature in ASP.NET TreeView. This project creates a custom TreeView control named "CustomTreeView" to achieve this goal. CSASPNETRemoteUploadAndDownload and VBASPNETRemoteUploadAndDownload This code sample was created in response to a code sample request in our new code sample request frunction for customers. The code samples demonstrate uploading files to and downloading files from a remote HTTP or FTP server. In .NET Framework 2.0 and higher versions, there are some lightweight class libraries which support HTTP and FTP protocol transmission. By using these classes, we can achieve this programming requirement.   CSASPNETImageEditUpload and VBASPNETImageEditUpload This demo will shows how to insert, edit and update a common image with the type of "jpg", "png", "gif" or "bmp" . We mainly use two different SqlDataSources with the same database to bind to GridView and FormView in order to establish the “cascading” effort. Besides we apply our self-made ImageHanlder to encoding or decoding images of different types, and use context to output the stream of images. We will explicitly assign the binary streams of images through the event of “FormView_ItemInserting” or “Form_ItemUpdating” to synchronize the stream both in what we can see on an aspx page as well as in what’s really stored in the database.   WebBrowser Control, Network and other Windows General New Code Samples   CSWebBrowserSuppressError and VBWebBrowserSuppressError The sample demonstrates how to make WebBrowser suppress errors, such as script error, navigation error and so on.   CSWebBrowserWithProxy and VBWebBrowserWithProxy The sample demonstrates how to make WebBrowser use a proxy server.   CSWebDownloadProgress and VBWebDownloadProgress The sample demonstrates how to show progress during the download. It also supplies the features to Start, Pause, Resume and Cancel a download.   CppSetDesktopWallpaper, CSSetDesktopWallpaper and VBSetDesktopWallpaper This code sample application allows you select an image, view a preview (resized smaller to fit if necessary), select a display style among Tile, Center, Stretch, Fit (Windows 7 and later) and Fill (Windows 7 and later), and set the image as the Desktop wallpaper. CSWindowsServiceRecoveryProperty and VBWindowsServiceRecoveryProperty CSWindowsServiceRecoveryProperty example demonstrates how to use ChangeServiceConfig2 to configure the service "Recovery" properties in C#. This example operates all the options you can see on the service "Recovery" tab, including setting the "Enable actions for stops with errors" option in Windows Vista and later operating systems. This example also include how to grant the shut down privilege to the process, so that we can configure a special option in the "Recovery" tab - "Restart Computer Options...".   New Office Development Code Samples   CSOneNoteRibbonAddIn and VBOneNoteRibbonAddIn The code sample demonstrates a OneNote 2010 COM add-in that implements IDTExtensibility2. The add-in also supports customizing the Ribbon by implementing the IRibbonExtensibility interface. It is a skeleton OneNote add-in that developers can extend it to implement more functions. The code sample was requested by a customer in our code sample request service. We expect that this could help developers in the community.   New Windows Shell Code Samples   CppShellExtPreviewHandler, CSShellExtPreviewHandler and VBShellExtPreviewHandler In the past two months, we released the code samples of Windows Context Menu Handler, Infotip Handler, and Thumbnail Handler. This is the fourth part of the shell extension series: Preview Handler. The code samples demo the C++, C# and VB.NET implementation of a preview handler for a new file type registered with the .recipe extension. Preview handlers are called when an item is selected to show a lightweight, rich, read-only preview of the file's contents in the view's reading pane. This is done without launching the file's associated application. Windows Vista and later operating systems support preview handlers. To be a valid preview handler, several interfaces must be implemented. This includes IPreviewHandler (shobjidl.h); IInitializeWithFile, IInitializeWithStream, or IInitializeWithItem (propsys.h); IObjectWithSite (ocidl.h); and IOleWindow (oleidl.h). There are also optional interfaces, such as IPreviewHandlerVisuals (shobjidl.h), that a preview handler can implement to provide extended support. Windows API Code Pack for Microsoft .NET Framework makes the implementation of these interfaces very easy in .NET. The example preview handler provides previews for .recipe files. The .recipe file type is simply an XML file registered as a unique file name extension. It includes the title of the recipe, its author, difficulty, preparation time, cook time, nutrition information, comments, an embedded preview image, and so on. The preview handler extracts the title, comments, and the embedded image, and display them in a preview window.   In response to many customers' request, we added setup projects in every shell extension samples in this release. Those setup projects allow you to deploy the shell extensions to your end users' machines. ---------- Download address: http://1code.codeplex.com/releases/view/57459#DownloadId=185534 Updated code sample index categorized by technologies: http://1code.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=All-In-One%20Code%20Framework%20Sample%20Catalog (it also allows you to download individual code samples instead of the entire All-In-One Code Framework sample package.)
