But is there a faster way? Can filter my command history based on some text? Intuitively, I would like to just type in r and then press up to search through my command history for only commands that started with "r".

  I want to create a Windows XP batch script that sequentially performs something like the following: @echo off :: build everything cd \workspace\project1 mvn clean install cd ..\project2 mvn clean install :: run some java file cd \workspace\project3 java -jar somefile.jar When I create a Batch script like this (following these instructions), I still have the problem that the script stops doing something after the first mvn clean install and then displays the command line. How can i execute all of these commands in sequence in one batch file? I don't want to refer to other files, I want to do it in one file.

• Very unusual and weird problem with gVim 7.2

  After installing gVim and running gvim from the run window, if I were to type :cd followed by a tab, I will get \AppData, \Application Data, etc. Which basically means I'm at my $HOME directory (C:\Users\Fabian). The weird thing is I do not have a \Application Data folder there. But if I were to run gvim.exe from its installation folder, and I type :cd followed by tab, I would get \autoload, \colors, etc. which means I'm at the installation folder. And if I were to pin gvim.exe on to taskbar, upon launch and typing :cd then tab, I will get \Dictionaries and upon hitting tab again I get a beep. I think for the last scenario, I'm at some Adobe folder. Anybody knows how to fix this weird issue? I'd like to pin it to taskbar and upon launch, start in the $HOME directory (C:\Users\Fabian).

I'm trying: ColorDrawable cd = new ColorDrawable("FF0000"); cd.setAlpha(255); ImageView iv = ...; iv.setImageDrawable(cd); the imageview is just empty though, no color.   Recently when I have found good sources packages for ghc 6.12/6.10 on Hackage I've been forced to do some minor or major changes to the cabal files to make those packages to work under windows. Besides to fork and merge my fixes with github, what seems to be the best way/ good enough practice to take these modified builds to a couple of other windows boxes that only has a basic haskell platform installed? I should prefer if I somehow could work with the cabal-install because that is what one normally use. Should one put the modfied build dirs on a shared/networked dir and mount from the targeted windows box?   I am planning to do a CD-ROM in either Flash or Flex, possibly using the Adobe AIR runtime. This CD interactive will have a bunch of forms on it for the user to fill out. After they fill in a form, they will have the option of saving or printing a PDF that is based on there information. I am trying to find a way of editing the content of the PDF in Flash, so when the user fills out the form, the application will fill in the PDF with there details from the form fields. Is this is possible? It would be great if there was some way of having template PDFs (either on the CD as there own files, or in a Flash library), then flash could come along and fill in the specific fields inside the PDF. Can Adobe AIR help me in any way here?

  I have my CD store setup and everything is working. Once my initial fetch is performed, I need to perform several fetches based on calculations using the data from my first fetch. The examples provided from Apple are great, and helped me get everything going but I'm struggling with executing successive fetches. Any suggestions, or tutorial links are appreciated. • Why can't I view a directory in Linux?

  I am setting up a Linux web server running apache. I uploaded and untared my web sites files. The files in the main directory are all visible when I am SSH'd into the system. However, I am blocked from all subdirectories. If I write: # cd images Then I get the error: -bash: cd: images: Permission denied I am signed in as ec2-user. I untarred the stuff as ec2-user and I doubt there was any permissions in the tar file since I created the archive on a Windows system. The weird thing is that I am the owner of this directory. Here is a snippet of the command: ls -l drw-rw-r-- 19 ec2-user ec2-user 4096 May 4 04:09 images When I do "sudo su" and then type the command cd images everything is fine. Why do I get "Permission denied" as ec2-user if I am the owner and have rw permission?

• Audio input problem in Ubuntu 9.10

  My audio input is a mix of my mic output and my sound card output. I'd like it to be just my mic output. I was able to do so in Ubuntu 9.04 but the interface is 9.10 is totally changed and I tried every my creativity was able to think. It's really annoying when talking to other people over the internet because they keep hearing their voice back. I'm not sure I explained it in clear way so I'll give you an example: What I do: I put an mp3 on play or a video on youtube then open a recorder and start to talk on my mic. What happens: both my voice and audio from mp3/youtube get reordered, even if I put headphones volume to 0 (via hardware). What I'd like to happen: Only my voice should be recorded. I'm sure I'm missing some technical term, but that's the problem and I'd like to solve it in Ubuntu 9.10, any idea?

I'm a developer so I have very little room for error... plus I'd really hate it if any of my .mp3's got corrupted! • I need a few minutes of dedicated server a week, but not for hosting, just to convert ogg etc.

  I'm completely happy with my webhosting, it's just that I need to do one little thing they won't allow, and that's run an instance of Sox to convert about 30 mp3s to ogg files, in various directories, a couple of times a week, to be done automatically in response to the detection of the upload of an mp3. Probably looking at a minute of server time over the whole week. I've had unhelpful suggestions on other forums like "why not leave your home PC on 24 hours a day and then use all your isp bandwidth to do this", which doesn't work for me. I know that I can host files on, say, Amazon S3, but is there something similar for my needs? All it would need to do would be: wget/ftp the mp3 files, convert them to ogg, ftp the files back to my hosting. Of course, all this wouldn't be needed if there was such a thing as a compiled binary of Sox (or any mp3ogg converter) for Centos which I could upload without needing root access, but I've given up asking that one, but always open to suggestions!

  Hello A friend of mine needs to zip a bunch of MP3's on her locked-down XP or Vista PC at work. There are two requirements: Since she doesn't have admin rights, the application should either not require an installer, or the installer doesn't require admin rights (don't know if it's possible) Ideally, the UI should be as dead-simple as eg. LamedropXPd, ie. just drag 'n drop files from Windows Explorer onto the icon, and off she has a ZIP file in the same directory as where the MP3's are located. Does someone know of such a utility? • In search of a good audio player for Ubuntu 9.10

  If this should be marked Community Wiki, please let me know. I'm switching from XP to Ubuntu, and I have been very disappointed with the selection of media players available. I'm primarily interested in an audio player, but integrated video and library management is OK, too. My criteria: Must be able to play audio CDs (I'm shocked how many apps this does away with, right away) Must be able to play MP3 & WAV; OGG, SHN, FLAC are all bonuses Repeat and Shuffle modes are a must FreeDB / GraceNote through a proxy is a must (if it can read a PAC file, that would be awesome) It needs to be really small, e.g. skinnable or an applet Ability to execute a playlist is a plus Gapless MP3 playback a plus I'm running Gnome, but I'm not totally adverse to a KDE app. Command-line only is also a viable option. Some that I've tried: RhythmBox - probably the best of the lot that I've tried; I don't like its mini mode (doesn't show the song being played) and I can't figure out how to get it to hit FreeDB/GraceNote through a proxy Songbird - can't play CDs, playlist management is atrocious Banshee Jajuk Maybe a couple of more. Thanks! UPDATE I tried out VLC, Amarok and Songbord (again). VLC I eventually got to work (I had some kind of bad configuration). It seemed way more involved than I was looking for out of a music player, and in general more geared to video than audio. I couldn't fathom its library management, which I think it has; maybe it doesn't, and that's why I couldn't figure it out. Amaork looked very promising but the library management was not to my liking, and the way it handled a playlist with both MP3 and WAV is inexplicable at best. I did like some aspects of the UI, but not enough to keep it. Songbird is very finicky, but I like the library management. Sort of. It kept telling me my Watch folder was invalid, even thought it clearly was accessible. Playlist management is bizarre, and the message that it was deleting source files whenever I deleted a playlist had me too worried to keep using it. Had it been able to play CDs, maybe I would have persevered. Audacious, while a bit odd at times, does seem to do what I want. If it had a library manager, I wouldn't have bothered trying any of the others. Thanks for the help, everyone!

  In short, how can I get VCS features (revisioning, branching, and deduplication) for a media collection that's far too large for most/all VCS systems? Background I have a 300GB music folder; unfortunately, I only have the hard drive space for this on my desktop system. However, a good portion of my collection is FLAC; therefore, I could theoretically have a space-optimized version in which I transcode all the FLAC to mp3 or some other lossy format, and use only that version on the laptop. However, a portion of my collection isn't FLAC. And that which isn't FLAC shouldn't be transcoded to an equivalent format; it won't have any space savings, which is the point. Moreover, it shouldn't be duplicated: the mp3/ogg portions of the collection should probably be exactly the same files. Thoughts One solution is to have format-specific organization of my music folders, and use some script to transcode the FLAC directory to mp3 or such into another directory. Another is some sort of hack using entirely separate copies and symbolic links for deduplication, or something similar. But these also have a disadvantage of lacking versioning; I'd like to be able to reorganize my music collection, retag things, etc. and save history. This isn't key, but would be awfully nice. I can't see it as entirely unreasonable to set up VCS hooks or something equivalent to keep directory structure synced between two copies, update tags, and transcode FLAC automatically into the space-optimized copy. Basically, the system I really want is a version control system. Two branches: one archival/desktop branch including the FLAC, one space-optimized/laptop branch without it; most VCSes would deal well with whole chunks being the same files well by compressing in a reasonable way (i.e. don't keep two copies of the same data). I could also do a lot of what I talk about above with hooks. But I don't know of any VCS that would deal with a 300GB repository with almost 20k files. Many of them would just not even initialize the whole affair; others would just do it inexpressibly slowly or otherwise badly. checkpoint looks like it's designed for something close (it's at least for media), but wouldn't do deduplication well (and I'm not convinced I'd be able to script it to do things like automatic transcoding and directory-structure syncing). So. Is there anything out there that can do all this, or should I consider it a programming project?
