  • Ideas in implenting the following entry form in ASP.NET MVC 2

    Hi guys, I have a very simple data entry form to implement. It looks like this: Obviously I have mocked out the actual requirements but the essence is similar. Entering a name and clicking history should bring up a pop up pointing to the url '/student/viewhistory/{name}' Name and age are required fields The sub form (in the mockup) with Class (a drop down, containing the numbers 1 - 10) and Subject (containing A - D, say) form a unique pair of values for which a score is required. So, selecting the Class and Subject, entering a score and clicking on Add should 'add' this record for the student. Then the user should be able to click Save (to persist the entry to the database) or be able to add further (class, subject, score) pairs to the entry. Any ideas how to smartly implement this? (I am coming from a DWH field... so thinking in a stateless manner is slightly foreign to me.) Any help is appreciated. I would imagine a smart use of jQuery would give a easy solution.   • asp.net mvc custom model binding in an update entity scenario

    Hi I have a question about model binding. Imagine you have an existing database entity displayed in a form and you'd like to edit some details, some properties eg createddate etc are not bound to the form, during model binding, these properties are not assigned to the model as they are not on the http post data or querystrong etc, hence their properties are null. In my controller method for update , Id just like to do public ActionResult Update( Entity ent) { //Save changes to db } but as some properties are null in ent, they override the existing database fields which are not part of the form post data, What is the correct way to handle this? Ive tried hidden fields to hold the data, but model binding does not seem to assign hidden fields to the model. Any suggestions would be appreciated

  • How to disable server-side caching on IIS 7.5 (asp net mvc3)

    I'm struggling with my IIS setup regarding caching, here's a brief description of my problem: I'm making a site for mobile and non-mobile, sharing the same controllers. IE: mysite/page will serve either mysite/page.cshtml, or mysite/M/page.cshtml, depending on the device. Here's the catch, it worked fine with my local and integration environment (cassiini and iis 6), but on another machine (2008r2/iis 7.5), apparently there is an aggressive server-side caching policy: If I access the website from a desktop machine, I have the correct pages (desktop version) If now I use my mobile phone to access the site, I will have the desktop version, (which implies a server-side cache, my phone is not using the same network). On the contrary, if I were to restart the server and access the site using my phone first, then I will get the mobile version on my desktop (only for the pages I already visited of course). I tried 2 solutions so far: Disabling OutputCache from my Web.config: <httpModules> [..] <remove name="OutputCache" /> </httpModules> And unchecking "Enable output cache" in "Output Caching" for my site in IIS. What's bugging me is that I do not have this problem with my other server (iis 6.0), although caching is enabled on this one, which leads me to think it is related to iis 7 caching addition. My question is simple: how does one disable server-side caching on IIS 7.5? Thanks in advance for your iis lights!

Instead of having to create an edit/display for each entity, I'd like to have the controller base class generate the view and validation code based off metadata stored in a table - something along those lines. I would imagine something like this has already been done, or there are good reasons for not doing it. Any insight or suggestions are appreciated.

    I can't find or figure out how to take a list of items (cupcakes) and display them in razor with a quantity field. What is happening is I am not able to get the values for each cupcake quantity in the list. Can you do textbox arrays in Razor?   • ASP MVC: E-mail Verification (Encrypting the activation link)

    Okay i'm a little bit stuck on how to solve this problem. When a user registers. I want to send him a link so that he can verify hes email address. But i have troubles generating the link. I've already written the controller to accept the links with the correct keys. i only have no idea on how to generate the activation keys. So when the user registers i'll send him a link by mail like this: Your activation link is : http://site.com/user/verify?key=keyhere Now i have created this method (called by the controller/action) to handle the key in the link: public string Verify(string value) { String email = Decrypt(value); user u = gebRep.GetUsers().WithEmail(email).SingleOrDefault(); if (u != null) { u.emailValid = true; userReppository.Save(); } return "Invallid validation value!"; } Now my problem is I have no idea on how to encrypt and decrypt the email into some sort of key (url friendly) So i can mail it with the link and can use it to verify the email. I need some kind of (not to complicated but secure) way to encrypt the email into a urlfriendly key. Tyvm

    Hi there, I have two pages in my simple MVC App with two defined routes: routes.MapRoute( "Results", // Route name "Results/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Results", action = "Index", id = "" } // Parameter defaults ); routes.MapRoute( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", // URL with parameters new { controller = "Main", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } // Parameter defaults ); I needed to have the results page load with just a product ID such as this: [MyDomain....]/Results/12345. But also the main page does a POST (using JQuery) to the Results Controller for updates using this route: [MyDomain....]/Main/Update along with a data bag. This works fine when I only have the "Default" route. But when I added the other "Results" route, all the POST calls to update are failing. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong??? Thanks a lot.

    I’m building a site that needs users created with different roles and permissions to access different areas of the site. I using mvc 2 but I can’t find much clear guidance on using the Membership tool with mvc to create accounts and roles etc. I tried the web configuration tool which works but I would like to administrate the site remotely. I used the aspnet_regsql tool so I can access the SqlMembershipProvider Schema in my Database. I also need to add more information to a user like profile info and a picture, would I add these to the membership tables or create separate tables for this? Any advice or help would be really helpful? Thanks Jemes

  • ASP.net MVC3 entities, don't know how to count

    I have 2 tables, 1 with countries, 1 with states. The states table has a column with Population. I'm using entities and I have created a List of states for the countries public class TblCountries { //Entities for my table country ... public List<tblStates> States { get; set; } } So now I can for example List all the states that belong to a country. Now what I want to do is count the population, so I can show the population that of an entire country. I tried using in my view @foreach (var item in Model.Countries) { @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem => item.States.Count<population>) } But this doesn't work, anyone know how to do this?     It doesn't seem that the Html.CheckBoxFor helper adds the correct "checked" attribute when rendering the HTML. I have a bool property rendered like so: <%= Html.CheckBoxFor(m => m.Visible) %> And the outputted HTML is this: <input type="checkbox" value="true" name="Visible" id="Visible"> Is there some particular reason it does not add the "checked" attribute when the value is true?

    I'm trying to write an auto-scaffolder template for Index views. I'd like to be able to pass in a collection of models or view-models (e.g., IQueryable<MyViewModel>) and get back an HTML table that uses the DisplayName attribute for the headings (th elements) and Html.Display(propertyName) for the cells (td elements). Each row should correspond to one item in the collection. So, I'd like to replace var items = (IQueryable<TestProj.ViewModels.TestViewModel>)Model; with var items = (IQueryable<T>)Model; or something to that effect. A property Html is automatically created for me when the view is created, but this HtmlHelper applies to the whole collection. I need to somehow create an itemHtml object that applies just to the current item in the foreach loop. I'm not sure how to do this, however, because the constructors for HtmlHelper don't take a Model object. How do I solve these two problems?

  • IIS doesn't send two responses to the same client at the same time (only for ASP)

    I've got 2 ASP pages. I do a request to the first page from Firefox (which takes 30 seconds to process on server-side), and during the execution of 30 seconds I do another request from Firefox to the second page (takes less than 1 second in server-side), but it does come after 31 second. Because it waits first requests to finish. When I request to the first page from Firefox and then request the second page from IE it's just instant. So basically ASP - IIS 6 somehow limiting every client to one request (long processing request) at a time. I need to get around this problem in my .NET client application. This is tested in 3 different systems. If you want to test you can try the ASP scripts at the end. This behaviour is same in a long SQL execution or just in a time consuming ASP operation. Note: It's not about HTTP Keep Alive It's not about persistent connection limit (we tried to increase this in firefox and in .NET with Net.ServicePointManager.DefaultConnectionLimit) It's not about User Agent This doesn't happen in ASP.NET so I assume it's something to the with ASP.dll I'm trying to solve this on the client not the server. I don't have direct control over the server it's a 3rd party solution. Is there any way to get around this? Sample ASP Code: First ASP: <% Set cnn = Server.CreateObject("Adodb.Connection") cnn.Open "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=.;Initial Catalog=master;User Id=sa;Password=;" cnn.Execute("WAITFOR DELAY '0:0:30'") cnn.Close %> Second ASP: <% Response.Write "bla bla" %>

    I have a small form which the user must fill in and consists of the following fields. Name (Text) Value (Text) Group (Group - Is a list of option pulled from a database table) Now the Model for this View looks like so, public string Name { get; set; } public string Value { get; set; } public int GroupID { get; set; } Now the view is Strongly Typed to the above model. What method would one use to populate the drop down list? Since the data is not contained within the Model (It could be contained in the Model) should we be using Temp/View data? A HTML Helper? What would be the ideal way to achieve this.

  • ASP.NET MVC - hiding id in URL?

    I'm building a basic blog application just now, for viewing data I'm just using the default route, i.e. - routes.MapRoute ( "Default", // Route name "{controller}/{action}/{id}", new { controller = "Blog", action = "Index", id = UrlParameter.Optional } ); So that when you go to mysite.com/View/12 it displays the blog with id 12. I want to modify the URLs so that they look as follows: mysite.com/View/2010/06/01/this-is-the-title. I could have a URL mapping like - routes.MapRoute( "View", "View/{year}/{month}/{day}/{title}", new { controller = "Blog", action = "View" } ); But then I'm not passing the ID into the Controller action so I would have to search on the date and title which doesn't feel right. On the other hand, if I pass the ID in it will show up in the URL which isn't what I'm aiming for either. Is there any way to redirect to the URL I want in the controller action after passing only the ID in as a paramter, or to pass the ID into the a Map Route but hide it in the URL?   • POST Ajax call results in not found using jqGrid and ASP.NET MVC 2 on IIS6

    This is puzzling me. I deployed an MVC 2 application to IIS6 and everything works fine except for my jqGrid calls to get data. All is well on my development machine, but here are the two URLs I'm working with Local dev web server: POST http://localhost:port/Ctrl.mvc/JsonMethod IIS6 (notice https - not sure if that matters) POST https://www.domain.com/AppName/Ctrl.mvc/JsonMethod The latter URL results in a HTTP 404, which is really confusing as all works well on my local machine. The JsonMethod is properly declared with [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] Let me know if any more info is needed - I appreciate any and all help with this!
