• hibernate and ehcache replication

  Hi, I am working on a cache replication solution between nodes Node A - master node = Hibernate + Database + Ehcache as secondary cache Node B - regional node= Ehcache as prmiary cache. no Hibernate Node B is used only as near-by cache for query. Now I am updating data (Say SudentInfo) in Node A, it gets persisted and cached correctly. On replication side (I am using JMS) it sends a message to Node B. But the problem is, the message it sends is of instance CacheEntry(deep Inside Element), there is no way to resurrect the original object (StudentInfo). What I got in node B is CacheEntry with some attributes of Students but not actually an Student Object. Please note that I don't need Hibernate session/persistence in Node B, node B is only for fast query, persistence is done through Node A. So has anybody tried any solution like this? Is there any way to convert CacheEntry to actual object? or Tell ehcache to replicate original object rather than CacheEntry. Thanks for the help

• How to debug applications using COM interfaces?

  I' building an application using C# which will use CATIA COM modules. When I import the COM inside my c# project, I think that Visual C# express generates the Interop automagically for me. All of this works correctly. However, when I try to debug the application and use watches during runtime, every object is a System.__ComObject and I cannot get their "real" value. Is there a way to tell the debugger the types of my COM objects? The goal is to get more familiar with this new API I don't know really well. Sometimes its rather hard to guess the correct types for everything since the interface hierarchy is quite deep

• Setting treeview background color in VB6 has a flaw - help?

  I have successfully implemented this method of using the Win32 API to set the background color of a treeview in VB 6: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/178491 However, one thing goes wrong: when you expand the tree nodes more than two levels deep, the area to the left of (and sometimes under) the inner plus [+] and minus [-] signs is still white. Does anyone know how to get this area to the correct background color, too? Note: I'm also setting the BackColor of each node, and also the BackColor of the treeview's imagelist.   Hello What's the difference between "focus" and "focus-in(out)-event" signals in GTK+? Which one is emitted firs? How are they related to keyboard(TAB) & mouse clicks. Do they depend on each other? I'm asking this because I want to keep track of currently focused widget within toplevel window and I don't want to test HAS_FOCUS flag of every widget when I need it. • WPF, TreeView bug, can't select root item after item removed from treeview

  I have a very weird bug in a three level deep TreeView. It is intermittent and I can't find how to reproduce it consistently. After programmatically removing, adding then removing some third level items, when I click on the root item it isn't selected. It can still expand/collapse but can't be selected with a mouse click and it doesn't fire ItemSelectionChange event. You can click to select a second level or third level items and after that you're finally able to select the root item. I've tried to set IsSelected = false for all items after removing and tried to do a nice clean-up when removing items but it doesn't help. Did anybody run into that bug? Do you have any suggestions to remove this bug?

  It seems that the following is to deep for the debugger in Qt even though the program uses it without problem typedef QMap <int, QStringList> day2FileNameType; typedef QMap <int, day2FileNameType> month2day2FileNameType; typedef QMap <int, month2day2FileNameType> year2month2day2FileNameType; year2month2day2FileNameType y2m2d2f; now the first 2 typeDefs work okay with the debugger but the third one retrieving data for watch view (over 100 pending request) Is it wrong for me to try and use such a typedef as year2month2day2FileNameType?

• Memory leak while asynchronously loading BitmapSource images

  I have a fair few images that I'm loading into a ListBox in my WPF application. Originally I was using GDI to resize the images (the originals take up far too much memory). That was fine, except they were taking about 400ms per image. Not so fine. So in search of another solution I found a method that uses TransformedBitmap (which inherits from BitmapSource). That's great, I thought, I can use that. Except I'm now getting memory leaks somewhere... I'm loading the images asynchronously using a BackgroundWorker like so: BitmapSource bs = ImageUtils.ResizeBitmapSource(ImageUtils.GetImageSource(photo.FullName)); //BitmapSource bs = ImageUtils.GetImageSource(photo.FullName); bs.Freeze(); this.dispatcher.Invoke(new Action(() => { photo.Source = bs; })); GetImageSource just gets the Bitmap from the path and then converts to BitmapSource.   I thought this would be pretty simple.... Basically, it's a 5-star rating system. When a user clicks, for example, three stars... I want to freeze those three stars right where they're at. I've been trying to simply remove the hover for the a href so it stays what it was at... maybe that's not the right method. I've exhausted absolutely everything I can think of... By the way this is straight javascript, not jquery or anything. It's crazy, I know but all of the JS was written straight.... • algorithm to use to return a specific range of nodes in a directed graph

  I have a class Graph with two lists types namely nodes and edges I have a function List<int> GetNodesInRange(Graph graph, int Range) when I get these parameters I need an algorithm that will go through the graph and return the list of nodes only as deep (the level) as the range. The algorithm should be able to accommodate large number of nodes and large ranges. Atop this, should I use a similar function List<int> GetNodesInRange(Graph graph, int Range, int selected) I want to be able to search outwards from it, to the number of nodes outwards (range) specified. So in the first function, I expect it to return the nodes placed in the blue box. The other function, if I pass the nodes as in the graph with a range of 1 and it starts at node 5, I want it to return the list of nodes that satisfy this criteria (placed in the orange box)

• Ruby - Immutable Objects

  I've got a highly multithreaded app written in Ruby that shares a few instance variables. Writes to these variables are rare (1%) while reads are very common (99%). What is the best way (either in your opinion or in the idiomatic Ruby fashion) to ensure that these threads always see the most up-to-date values involved? Here's some ideas so far that I had (although I'd like your input before I overhaul this): Have a lock that most be used before reading or writing any of these variables (from Java Concurrency in Practice). The downside of this is that it puts a lot of synchronize blocks in my code and I don't see an easy way to avoid it. Use Ruby's freeze method (see here), although it looks equally cumbersome and doesn't give me any of the synchronization benefits that the first option gives. These options both seem pretty similar but hopefully anyone out there will have a better idea (or can argue well for one of these ideas). I'd also be fine with making the objects immutable so they aren't corrupted or altered in the middle of an operation, but I don't know Ruby well enough to make the call on my own and this question seems to argue that objects are highly mutable.

• XML deserialization doesn't read in second level

  Sorry if the title doesn't make much sense, but I'm not too familiar with the terminology. My question is: I have a config.xml file for a program I'm working on. I created an xsd file by 'xsd.exe config.xml'. I then took this xsd and added it to the solution in visual studio. My last step used a program called xsd2code that turned that xsd file into a class I can serialize too. The problem is it doesn't read more then a layer deep in the xml tree. By this I mean the elements in the root node get deserialized into my object, but those that are in a node inside the root node are not. I found this out by putting a breakpoint after the deserialization and looking at my object. Any Ideas? Let me know if this needs some clarification or you need a snippet of something.

  I have a Windows Forms app that itself launches different threads to do different kinds of work. Occasionally, ALL threads (including the UI thread) become frozen, and my app becomes unresponsive. I've decided it may be a Garbage Collector-related issue, as the GC will freeze all managed threads temporarily. • change font-size of nested elements in list

  Hi, I have a nested list of ul elements. I would like to decrease the font size by a couple of pixels for each level down. So for example the first li elements would have font size 18px, then nested elements of that would have font size 16px and any nested elements of that would have font size 14px etc. However once the font size gets to a certain size e.g. 8px I would like to stop making them any smaller. These lists are generated on the fly so I have no way of knowing how deep they are going to be so can't just hard code the css to a certain level. Is there a way in css or JQuery where I could apply this type of formatting?

• How to share code with continuous integration

  I've just started working in a continuous integration environment (TeamCity). I understand the basic idea of not getting so abstracted out in your code that you are never able to build it to test functionality, etc. However, when there is deep coding going on, occasionally it will take me several days to get buildable code--but in the interim other team members may need to see my code. If I check the code in, it breaks the build. However, if I don't check it in, my team members are unable to see the most recent work. I'm wondering how this situation is best dealt with.

  I do not find actual difference between these two J2EE server. From my past experience, I found out following: WL is evolving more faster than WAS. WL is more user friendly than WAS. To simply deploy a application in WAS, we need to go in deep and its difficult to find if u are new to it. I found out that WAS is slower in some machine than WL. I found out that Classloading is easier to understand and effective in WL than WAS Above all are my experiences but not actual facts. I want to know more in this respect. Please clear my doubts. • Python if statement efficiency

  A friend (fellow low skill level recreational python scripter) asked me to look over some code. I noticed that he had 7 separate statements that basically said. if ( a and b and c): do something the statements a,b,c all tested their equality or lack of to set values. As I looked at it I found that because of the nature of the tests, I could re-write the whole logic block into 2 branches that never went more than 3 deep and rarely got past the first level (making the most rare occurrence test out first). if a: if b: if c: else: if c: else: if b: if c: else: if c: To me, logically it seems like it should be faster if you are making less, simpler tests that fail faster and move on. My real questions are 1) When I say if and else, should the if be true, does the else get completely ignored? 2) In theory would if (a and b and c) take as much time as the three separate if statements would?

• Asynchronously populate datagridview in Windows Forms application

  howzit! I'm a web developer that has been recently requested to develop a Windows forms application, so please bear with me (or dont laugh!) if my question is a bit elementary. After many sessions with my client, we eventually decided on an interface that contains a tabcontrol with 5 tabs. Each tab has a datagridview that may eventually hold up to 25,000 rows of data (with about 6 columns each). I have successfully managed to bind the grids when the tab page is loaded and it works fine for a few records, but the UI freezes when I bound the grid with 20,000 dummy records. The "freeze" occurs when I click on the tab itself, and the UI only frees up (and the tab page is rendered) once the bind is complete. I communicated this to the client and mentioned the option of paging for each grid, but she is adament w.r.t. NOT wanting this. My only option then is to look for some asynchronous method of doing this in the background. I don't know much about threading in windows forms, but I know that I can use the BackgroundWorker control to achieve this. My only issue after reading up a bit on it is that it is ideally used for "long-running" tasks and I/O operations. My questions: How does one determine a long-running task? How does one NOT MISUSE the BackgroundWorker control, ie. is there a general guideline to follow when using this? (I understand that opening/spawning multiple threads may be undesirable in certain instances) Most importantly: How can I achieve (asychronously) binding of the datagridview after the tab page - and all its child controls - loads. Is this possible? I've been racking my brain and hitting the google but I can't find how and where to do this.

• Changing the colour of \textbullet in LaTeX Beamer

  I don't want to use Beamer's standard blue colour theme. I want to use beaver, which is deep reds. Everything looks nice, except that if I use itemize the bullet points are still blue. Is there a nice way to have the bullets vary with what colour theme I was using? (If I were to opt for a yellowish colour theme, I'd expect the bullets to go yellow too.) If there isn't, what is the brute force way to change the bullet points red? Or at the very least, make them go back to black again.
