  • Web based printing from a Django application?

    - by lud0h
Is there any recent developments in web based printing? I know using @media print in CSS, PDF based solution or iTextSharp but they are not really easy (except @media print) but alignment is little tricky if receipt contains barcodes or if I have to format for A5 etc., Is there anything new in HTML5 which will support this? I would like to print receipts from a Django based webapplication. Any tips? Thanks.

  • django app with a generic name

    - by zaharpopov
Django tutorials everywhere use constant-set application name all around - in urls file, in HTML templates, in views. But if I want to distribute an application and let the user sets it name (i.e. its URL postfix on http://server.com/appname) - how can I do? I must have some common name setting then in configuration, but how to work it for template files, etc?

  • Django Currency Conversion

    - by Koobz
Is there any facility in Django for doing currency conversions? Obviously, rates change day by day but I'm somewhat hopeful that the locale module has some sort of web-service based converter :P There's a snippet here that handles the formatting: http://www.djangosnippets.org/snippets/552/ But I need to localize the values first.

  • Difficulty adding widgets to django form.

    - by codingJoe
I have a django app that tracks activities that can benefit a classroom. Using the django examples, I was able to build a form to enter this data. But when I try to add widgets to that form, things get tricky. What I want is a calendar widget that lets the user enter the 'activity_date' field using a widget. If I use Admin interface. The AdminDateWidget works fine. however. This particular user isn't allowed access to the admin interface so I need a different way to present this widget. Also I couldn't figure out how to make the bring the admin widget over into non-admin pages. So I tried a custom widget. This is the first custom widget I've built, so I'm not quite sure what is supposed to be going on here. Any Expert Advice? How do I get my date widget to work? # The Model class Activity(models.Model): activity_date = models.DateField() activity_type = models.CharField(max_length=50, choices=ACTIVITY_TYPES) activity_description = models.CharField(max_length=200) activity_duration= models.DecimalField(decimal_places=2, max_digits=4) est_attendance = models.IntegerField("Estimated attendance") # The Form class ActivityForm(forms.ModelForm): # The following line causes lockup if enabled. # With the DateTimeWidget removed, the form functions correctly except that there is no widget. #activity_date = forms.DateField(label=_('Date'), widget=DateTimeWidget) ##!!! • Performing non-blocking requests? - Django

    - by RadiantHex
Hi folks, I have been playing with other frameworks, such as NodeJS, lately. I love the possibility to return a response, and still being able to do further operations. e.g. def view(request): do_something() return HttpResponse() do_more_stuff() #not possible!!! Maybe Django already offers a way to perform operations after returning a request, if that is the case that would be great. Help would be very much appreciated! =D

  • How come my South migrations doesn't work for Django?

    - by TIMEX
First, I create my database. create database mydb; I add "south" to installed Apps. Then, I go to this tutorial: http://south.aeracode.org/docs/tutorial/part1.html The tutorial tells me to do this: $ py manage.py schemamigration wall --initial >>> Created 0001_initial.py. You can now apply this migration with: ./manage.py migrate wall Great, now I migrate. $ py manage.py migrate wall But it gives me this error... django.db.utils.DatabaseError: (1146, "Table 'fable.south_migrationhistory' doesn't exist") So I use Google (which never works. hence my 870 questions asked on Stackoverflow), and I get this page: http://groups.google.com/group/south-users/browse_thread/thread/d4c83f821dd2ca1c Alright, so I follow that instructions >> Drop database mydb; >> Create database mydb; $ rm -rf ./wall/migrations $ py manage.py syncdb But when I run syncdb, Django creates a bunch of tables. Yes, it creates the south_migrationhistory table, but it also creates my app's tables. Synced: > django.contrib.admin > django.contrib.auth > django.contrib.contenttypes > django.contrib.sessions > django.contrib.sites > django.contrib.messages > south > fable.notification > pagination > timezones > fable.wall > mediasync > staticfiles > debug_toolbar Not synced (use migrations): - (use ./manage.py migrate to migrate these) Cool....now it tells me to migrate these. So, I do this: $ py manage.py migrate wall The app 'wall' does not appear to use migrations. Alright, so fine. I'll add wall to initial migrations. $ py manage.py schemamigration wall --initial Then I migrate: $ py manage.py migrate wall You know what? It gives me this BS: _mysql_exceptions.OperationalError: (1050, "Table 'wall_content' already exists") Sorry, this is really pissing me off. Can someone help ? thanks. How do I get South to work and sync correctly with everything?

  • extending urlize in django

    - by hymloth
the urlize function from django.utils.html converts urls to clickable links. My problem is that I want to append a target="_blank" into the "< href..", so that I open this link in a new tab. Is there any way that I can extend the urlize function to receive an extra argument? or should I make a custom filter using regexes to do this stuff? Is this efficient?

  • Use Apache authentication in Django without popup

    - by chernevik
I am using Apache to authenticate users for Django, but I would like to do so without the popup form that Apache uses in its basic configuration. How do I embed the login form within a page while still using Apache for authentication? That is, I'd like a page that says "Please login" and provides a form asking for username and password, and passes this information on to Apache for authentication. (I'd do this over an SSL connection, of course.)

  • Django approximate matching of unicode strings with ascii equivalents

    - by c
I have the following model and instance: class Bashable(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=100) >>> foo = Bashable.objects.create(name=u"piñata") Now I want to be able to search for objects, but using ascii characters rather than unicode, something like this: >>> Bashable.objects.filter(name__lookslike="pinata") Is there a way in Django to do this sort of approximate string matching, using ascii stand-ins for the unicode characters in the database? Here is a related question, but for Apple's Core Data.

  • Django Date Input Parsing?

    - by Dane Larsen
I'm trying to get a date for an event from a user. The input is just a simple html text input. My main problem is that I don't know how to parse the date. If I try to pass the raw string, I get a TypeError, as expected. Does Django have any date-parsing modules?

  • List all form related errors in django

    - by Mridang Agarwalla
Hi, Is there a direct way of listing out 'all' form errors in Django templates. I'd like to list out both field and non-field errors and any other form errors. I've found out how to do this on a per-field basis but as said earlier, I'd like to list out everything. The method I'm using doesn't seem to list out everything. {% for error in form.errors %} {{ error|escape }} {% endfor %} Thanks.
