• Can Windows Home Server be used on an active directory domain?

  The situation: an Active Directory network with a few dozen machines. Most of the machines have the same vanilla image applied to them so if there was a hard drive failure getting the machine back up to the standard network image would be quick and easy. However, there are a handful of (eight) machines which have rather unique setups (accounting, developers, the "artist" with CS4 and such). For these machines we would like to use Windows Home Server since the backups are automatic and recovery from a machine failure is quite painless. The question though is whether or not WHS can be used on an A/D network. If not, what "set it and forget it" backup/imaging product is recommended for this scenario?

• How do I install a language pack in Windows 7 Home Premium?

  Specifically, I want Korean (link), but I hope this helps other people in general. According to this page, it is only possible for Ultimate and Enterprise. Specifically, I'd like to enable my keyboard to type in Korean, and I specified Korean as the input language (Start - type "Input Languages", only result). Under the General tab, I selected Add, and specified Korean.. but it doesn't work, because the language pack isn't installed I presume. Would anyone know how to add different language input / packs to Windows 7 Home Premium? Also, I tried following this tutorial on adding a language pack to HP, but the .cab keeps disappearing so it will not work. Note: Unlike the link in the tutorial as well, I do not have an option to change the display language of Windows, only the option to change input methods.

  How much does it (roughly) cost to leave my personal home computer running 24/7 for a year? I'm not doing anything unusual; I run a webserver for myself, surf the web, write some code. I don't have any specific specs. So for example there might be the cost of electricity, internet connection, and possibly some other factors that I've overlooked. I'm trying to decide whether it would be a good idea to turn off my computer when I'm asleep and not using it. Is the cost negligible, maybe 1 USD per day, something in between or more?

  I have a Seagate expansion 2TB HDD which I've managed to get working on my wireless router (thanks to fat32format) however I haven't managed to set my backup to work with it. Vist Home Premium requires that I input a username and password in the backup utility. As far as I'm aware that type of access control isn't set on the HDD: Can I set up the access control on the HDD? If so how Or, can I set the backup to work without it? • I have to manually enter the pwd when I login at school and when I come back home with my laptop (DELL E6410)

  I didn't have to do this the first 3 months of me going to school. My laptop used to be able to connect to my Home WiFi and school Wifi automatically then after the 3rd month something changed and eversince then I literally have to manually enter each of the Wifi passwords in each location each time I try to connect to their respective WLAN. I tried adding each WiFi networks in the "Manage wireless networks" section in the Network and Sharing Center but everytime I login to one of the location, the created network disappears and I did this more than once. I tried restoring the OS back but to no avail. Can someone please assist me on this issue. I'm not sure if this issue has been addressed in this website but I haven't seen any similar question in here. I appreciate any help anyone may be able to share.

• DFS Replication, Users HOME folder - seems not to catch all files... any hints?

  I amm moving stuff out of a file Server. I am using DFS for that - the Folders are anyway in a DFS tree, so I can set up a replication temporarily, then drop the old Folder. Works nice, EXCEPT for the Folder containing the users home drives. Which, incidentally, is also the one I can not see all files in due to my permissions. Small Setup. We have 159mb in the users directories, 1280 files, 133 Folders original. The copy only has 157mb, 1269 files, 133 Folders. Anyone knwos of a way to find out what files are missing? IS this a Problem (could be some Caching files that are regenerated). Users are all offline (weekend) ;) This is pretty much the last share - all others had exactly ZERO issues.

• How would I Enable FTP on Home PC (Win7)?

  In my home, all PCs connect through a small router. Some wired and some wireless. Our Media PC (HTPC) is controlled via a Media Center TV style remote, so managing files on it is tedious. I can access all of the files on the HTPC from my desktop PC, but moving a 6 GB file from \\HTPC\Folder1 to \\HTPC\Folder2 involves copying the data to the desktop and then transferring it back. If I were on the HTPC, this would likely be handled by a simple address change for the file (i.e. it would be done almost instantly). I'm thinking if I could get an FTP program to connect to the HTPC, I could simplify things ...but how do I enable that ability on the HPTC? Then, how would I go about connecting to the HTPC? Would I simply enter \\HTPC as the FTP address?

  I am trying to setup apache web server in my home network. I followed the instructions found at http://www.boutell.com/newfaq/creating/hostmyown.html. I have a d-link dir-601 router with a cable internet connection. I am able to connect to the web server from my LAN using the url pointing to my server's ip 192.168.0.103 in the web browser. but when I am trying to browse the same with my phone on 3G network, I get a message "server cannot be found". My Public IP starts with 61.xx.xxx.xxx and my router has an IP of 192.168.0.1 Could anyone please help me in figuring out the isuue. Thanks in advance.

I am looking for a UPS which can power the PC during a blackout (very rare) and when the battery level is like %20, it sends a signal to Windows 2008 to shutdown. Even if it's only for a few minutes, that's good enough. This is for home use so I am looking for an inexpensive unit ( less than $300? ). Which brand/model is good choice? Someone have ideas and sample codes how to do that? * I see an app with name (Smart Taskmanager) wich always detect when you touch the right side of the screen and then detect when you slide the finger to left. So I think its possible, with this function I think its possible to implementate the code to simulate the (Home, Meny, Back, Search) buttons. * I also see and test an app wich show a "cracked display" always ontop so that tecnic maybe shold be useful to always show the buttons/bitmanp on top. I'm on a budget so would rather purchase 'Home Premium' rather than 'Professional' or 'Ultimate'.   Hallo, I'm using my Android (Archos 43) only as an extended display in an industrial application. I just need a single programm to display data received and send user inputs by bluetooth. This little programm should start directly after booting and should disable (fade out) the android-buttons (search, home, menu and back). That's my plan. Here's my problem: I know, there are some applications which can fade out these search/home/menu/back-buttons (like DeskClock or some videoplayers). But how does it work? Just using android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Light.NoTitleBar.Fullscreen" only disables the titlebar, not the 4 android-buttons. Thanks, Dennis

  I need to give SFTP access to a directory within my webroot on my server. I've set up ben_files as a user and have set his/her home directory to /var/www/vhosts/mydomain.com/files That's all fine if he/she connects with plain old FTP - he's/she's restricted just to that directory, but to enable SFTP I had to add him/her to bin/bash shell, which suddenly opens up my entire server... Is there a way of giving him/her SFTP access but without opening up all my directories? I'd really like him restricted to only his/her home ;)

When I run the application with Device API version 7, Skin: HVGA, hw.lcd.density: 160, in portrait layout, the fourth wallpaper option is not shown. I need to use the directional keys in the emulator to see the 4th wallpaper option, because the first option is centered. I have modified only the wallpaper.xml file with a variety of android:layout_* options with no success at this point. How do I show all four of my wallpaper options?

• Cygwin - Repo with Separate Git/Working Dir Doesn't Work

  Since I've switched to OS X and Vim, I've found it easiest to manage all of my 'dotfiles' (all of my configuration files and miscellaneous scripts) with Git. Having already set up my dotfiles in a repo following this tutorial, I figured it would also be easy enough to migrate all of my settings into my Cygwin setup on my Windows partition. Already having the repo setup on Github, I simply clone'd the repo, and moved all of the files over to my home directory, making it a mirror of my OS X home directory. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to use the actual repo any further within Cygwin. The problem is that I cannot use my dotfiles repo with git within Cygwin. The setup is unique from most normal git repos, in that the working directory and the git directory are in different locations. Specifically, the working directory is $HOME (/Users/kyle on OS X, /home/kyle in Cygwin), and the git repo is $HOME/.dotfiles.git. So, if I wanted to get the status of the repo, for example, I would type the following command (which I alias to reduce typing, of course): git --work-tree=$HOME --git-dir=$HOME/.dotfiles.git status -uno While this works fine on OS X, this refuses to work within Cygwin. Regardless of whether or not I use my alias, or whether or not I substitute $HOME by hand, I get the following git error: fatal: Not a git repository: /home/Kyle/dotfiles/.git/modules/.build/git I don't understand where this error comes from, but the path /home/Kyle/dotfiles was the original location of the git repo when I initially cloned it. Additionally, it's important to note that the repo relies heavily on submodules. If specifics are necessary, the repo in question can be found on GitHub. The commands I ran to setup the repo in Cygwin can also be found within the Readme file.
