  • how can i substitute a NULL value for a 0 in an SQL Query result

    - by Name.IsNullOrEmpty
SELECT EmployeeMaster.EmpNo, Sum(LeaveApplications.LeaveDaysTaken) AS LeaveDays FROM EmployeeMaster FULL OUTER JOIN LeaveApplications ON EmployeeMaster.id = LeaveApplications.EmployeeRecordID INNER JOIN LeaveMaster ON EmployeeMaster.id = LeaveMaster.EmpRecordID GRoup BY EmployeeMaster.EmpNo order by LeaveDays Desc with the above query, if an employee has no leave application record in table LeaveApplications, then their Sum(LeaveApplications.LeaveDaysTaken) AS LeaveDays column returns NULL. What i would like to do is place a value of 0 (Zero) instead of NULL. I want to do this because i have a calculated column in the same query whose formular depends on the LeaveDays returned and when LeaveDays is NULL, the formular some how fails. Is there away i can put 0 for NULL such that that i can get my desired result.

  • MySQL Query still executing after a day..?

    - by Matt Jarvis
Hi - I'm trying to isolate duplicates in a 500MB database and have tried two ways to do it. One creating a new table and grouping: CREATE TABLE test_table as SELECT * FROM items WHERE 1 GROUP BY title; But it's been running for an hour and in MySQL Admin it says the status is Locked. The other way I tried was to delete duplicates with this: DELETE bad_rows.* from items as bad_rows inner join ( select post_title, MIN(id) as min_id from items group by title having count(*) 1 ) as good_rows on good_rows.post_title = bad_rows.post_title; ..and this has been running for 24hours now, Admin telling me it's Sending data... Do you think either or these queries are actually still running? How can I find out if it's hung? (with Apple OS X 10.5.7)

  • Behavior of nested finally in Exceptions

    - by kuriouscoder
Hello: Today at work, I had to review a code snippet that looks similar to this mock example. package test; import java.io.IOException; import org.apache.log4j.Logger; public class ExceptionTester { public static Logger logger = Logger.getLogger(ExceptionTester.class); public void test() throws IOException { new IOException(); } public static void main(String[] args) { ExceptionTester comparator = new ExceptionTester(); try { try { comparator.test(); } finally { System.out.println("Finally 1"); } } catch(IOException ex) { logger.error("Exception happened" ex); // also close opened resources } System.out.println("Exiting out of the program"); } } It's printing the following output.I expected an compile error since the inner try did not have a catch block. Finally 1 Exiting out of the program I do not understand why IOException is caught by the outer catch block. I would appreciate if anyone can explain this, especially by citing stack unwinding process

  • Python breaks for a certain amount

    - by Brian Cox
All, I am not very good at explaining so i will let my comments do it! #this script is to calculate some of the times table up to 24X24 and also miss some out #Range of numbers to be calculated numbers=range(1,25) for i in numbers: for w in numbers: print(str(i)+"X"+str(w)+"="+str(i*w)) #here i want to break randomly (skip some out) e.g. i could be doing the 12X1,12X2 and then 12X5 i have no limit of skips. Update Sorry if this is not clear i want it to break from the inner loop for a random amount of times

  • Sorting 1000-2000 elements with many cache misses

    - by Soylent Graham
I have an array of 1000-2000 elements which are pointers to objects. I want to keep my array sorted and obviously I want to do this as quick as possible. They are sorted by a member and not allocated contiguously so assume a cache miss whenever I access the sort-by member. Currently I'm sorting on-demand rather than on-add, but because of the cache misses and [presumably] non-inlining of the member access the inner loop of my quick sort is slow. I'm doing tests and trying things now, (and see what the actual bottleneck is) but can anyone recommend a good alternative to speeding this up? Should I do an insert-sort instead of quicksorting on-demand, or should I try and change my model to make the elements contigious and reduce cache misses? OR, is there a sort algorithm I've not come accross which is good for data that is going to cache miss?

  • How can I write this Table Valued Function as a Stored Procedure?

    - by Alex
I have the following TVF for fulltext search: FUNCTION [dbo].[Fishes_FullTextSearch] (@searchtext nvarchar(4000), @limitcount int) RETURNS TABLE AS RETURN SELECT * FROM Fishes INNER JOIN CONTAINSTABLE(Fishes, *, @searchtext, @limitcount) AS KEY_TBL ON Fishes.Id = KEY_TBL.[KEY] When I'm using this TVF, it doesn't return a collection of objects of type Fish (which I want!) - instead LINQ creates a new result type which includes all "Fish" fields and the fields Key and Rank. In another question, it was suggested that I rewrite this TVF into a stored procedure for it to return Fish objects only. Can someone help me do this please? Also, it needs to be ordered by Rank. Thank you!

  • What features of Scala cannot be translated to Java?

    - by Paul
The Scala compiler compiles direct to Java byte code (or .NET CIL). Some of the features of Scala could be re-done in Java straightforwardly (e.g. simple for comprehensions, classes, translating anonymous/inner functionc etc). What are the features that cannot be translated that way? That is presumably mostly of academic interest. More usefully, perhaps, what are the key features or idioms of Scala that YOU use that cannot be easily represented in Java? Are there any the other way about? Things that can be done straightforwardly in Java that have no straightforward equivalent in Scala? Idioms in Java that don't translate?

  • MySQL Join Comma Separated Field

    - by neeraj
I have two tables. First Table is a batch table that contain comma separated student id in field "batch" batch -------------- id batch -------------- 1 1,2 2 3,4 Second Table is marks marks ---------------------- id studentid subject marks 1 1 English 50 2 2 English 40 3 3 English 70 4 1 Math 65 5 4 English 66 6 5 English 75 7 2 Math 55 How we can find those students of first batch id =1 who have scored more than 45 marks in English without using sub query. Problem i found to get this done using a single query is that we can not use IN as an association operator in JOIN statement What changes are required in below query to make it work? SELECT * FROM batch INNER JOIN marks ON marks.studentid IN(batch.batch) where batch.id = 1

  • Generate all permutations with sort constraint

    - by Moos Hueting
    Hi! I have a list consisting of other lists and some zeroes, for example: x = [[1, 1, 2], [1, 1, 1, 2], [1, 1, 2], 0, 0, 0] I would like to generate all the combinations of this list while keeping the order of the inner lists unchanged, so [[1, 1, 2], 0, 0, [1, 1, 1, 2], [1, 1, 2], 0] is fine, but [[1, 1, 1, 2], [1, 1, 2], 0, 0, [1, 1, 2], 0] isn't. I've got the feeling that this should be fairly easy in Python, but I just don't see it. Could somebody help me out?

  • While Loop in TSQL with Sum totals

    - by RPS
I have the following TSQL Statement, I am trying to figure out how I can keep getting the results (100 rows at a time), store them in a variable (as I will have to add the totals after each select) and continue to select in a while loop until no more records are found and then return the variable totals to the calling function. SELECT [OrderUser].OrderUserId, ISNULL(SUM(total.FileSize), 0), ISNULL(SUM(total.CompressedFileSize), 0) FROM ( SELECT DISTINCT TOP(100) ProductSize.OrderUserId, ProductSize.FileInfoId, CAST(ProductSize.FileSize AS BIGINT) AS FileSize, CAST(ProductSize.CompressedFileSize AS BIGINT) AS CompressedFileSize FROM ProductSize WITH (NOLOCK) INNER JOIN [Version] ON ProductSize.VersionId = [Version].VersionId ) AS total RIGHT OUTER JOIN [OrderUser] WITH (NOLOCK) ON total.OrderUserId = [OrderUser].OrderUserId WHERE NOT ([OrderUser].isCustomer = 1 AND [OrderUser].isEndOrderUser = 0 OR [OrderUser].isLocation = 1) AND [OrderUser].OrderUserId = 1 GROUP BY [OrderUser].OrderUserId

  • replacing the beginning and end but not the same chars within a string

    - by Jordan Trainor
lines = "some stuff\"some other \"stuff\"\""; lines = lines.Replace("\"", "\""); lines = lines.Replace("\"", "\""); in its current context and in its simplest form these two actions seem absolutely pointless but when I put this into code it will be not be pointless and will have a purpose other than replacing itself with itself. OK so I have the String lines that has 4 escaped quotation marks and I wish to replace the first quote with a quote and the end quote with a quote how would I accomplish this without replacing any of the inner quotes?

  • Performing LINQ Self Join

    - by senfo
I'm not getting the results I want for a query I'm writing in LINQ using the following: var config = (from ic in repository.Fetch() join oc in repository.Fetch() on ic.Slot equals oc.Slot where ic.Description == "Input" && oc.Description == "Output" select new Config { InputOid = ic.Oid, OutputOid = oc.Oid }).Distinct(); The following SQL returns 53 rows (which is correct), but the above LINQ returns 96 rows: SELECT DISTINCT ic.Oid AS InputOid, oc.Oid AS OutputOid FROM dbo.Config AS ic INNER JOIN dbo.Config AS oc ON ic.Slot = oc.Slot WHERE ic.Description = 'Input' AND oc.Description = 'Output' How would I replicate the above SQL in a LINQ query? Update: I don't think it matters, but I'm working with LINQ to Entities 4.0.

  • Query Execution Plan - When is the Where clause executed?

    - by Alex
I have a query like this (created by LINQ): SELECT [t0].[Id], [t0].[CreationDate], [t0].[CreatorId] FROM [dbo].[DataFTS]('test', 100) AS [t0] WHERE [t0].[CreatorId] = 1 ORDER BY [t0].[RANK] DataFTS is a full-text search table valued function. The query execution plan looks like this: SELECT (0%) - Sort (23%) - Nested Loops (Inner Join) (1%) - Sort (Top N Sort) (25%) - Stream Aggregate (0%) - Stream Aggregate (0%) - Compute Scalar (0%) - Table Valued Function (FullTextMatch) (13%) | | - Clustered Index Seek (38%) Does this mean that the WHERE clause ([CreatorId] = 1) is executed prior to the TVF ( full text search) or after the full text search? Thank you.

  • Why the valid looking statement gives error in MATLAB?

    - by user198729
    It's from this question? Why the two solutions doesn't work, though it looks very valid for me: >> t = -pi:0.1:pi; >> r = ((sin(t)*sqrt(cos(t)))*(sin(t) + (7/5))^(-1)) - 2*sin(t) + 2 ; ??? Error using ==> mtimes Inner matrix dimensions must agree. >> t = -pi:0.1:pi; >> r = ((sin(t).*sqrt(cos(t))).*(sin(t) + (7/5)).^(-1)) - 2*sin(t) + 2 ; >> plot(r,t) ??? Error using ==> plot Vectors must be the same lengths. What's wrong with the above?

  • Translate SQL to LINQ query - group/join/filter

    - by Paddy
I have the following query: SELECT S.[FlowOrder], S.[DESCRIPTION], COUNT(I.ID) FROM WorkFlowStatus AS S INNER JOIN Item AS I ON S.ID = I.StatusID WHERE I.Installation = '1' GROUP BY S.[Description], S.[FlowOrder] ORDER BY S.[FlowOrder] Which gives me the count of an item, grouped by a foreign key to workflow, outputting the descriptive name from my FK table. I've go this far with the LINQ query (using LINQ-to-SQL) in the background: var items = from s in _entities.WorkflowStatus join i in _entities.Items on s.ID equals i.StatusId into Statuses orderby s.FlowOrder select new {s.Description, ItemCount = Statuses.Count() }; How do I get the where clause in the SQL into this LINQ query?

  • Using Linq, how to separate a list in to grouped objects by name?

    - by Dr. Zim
I have a table where a record looks like this varchar(255) Name varchar(255) Text varchar(255) Value Name is the DDL name, Text is what is displayed, and Value is returned upon selection. There are between one and twenty options for each Name. Without iterating though each option like a cursor, is there any way to pull out a list of objects, one for each unique DDL Name, using Linq and C#? A sample of the data: Beds '4 (10)' 4 Beds '5 (1)' 5 Beds '7 (1)' 7 Baths 'NA (13)' NULL Baths '0 (1)' 0 Baths '1 (13)' 1 I was thinking about doing an outer select to get the unique Names, then an inner select to get the list of options for it, then return the set as a List of a set of Lists.

  • Java Thread Message Passing

    - by pkulak
    I'm writing an Android app. I have a main method, which creates and runs a new Thread using an anonymous inner Runnable class. The run() method, when it's done, calls a method on it's parent class (in the main thread) that calls notifyDataSetChanged() so that the main thread can redraw the new data. This is causing all kinds of trouble (ViewRoot$CalledFromWrongThreadException). The thing is, this method being called from the worker thread is on the class that's created in the UI thread. Shouldn't that be running on the UI thread? Or am I missing something? Here's some code about what I'm talking about: public class Mealfire extends Activity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle icicle) { (new Thread() { public void run() { // Do a bunch of slow network stuff. update(); } }).start(); } private void update() { myAdapter.notifyDatasetChanged(); } }

  • Incorrect value for UNIQUE_CONSTRAINT_NAME in REFERENTIAL_CONSTRAINTS

    - by van
I am listing all FK constraints for a given table using INFORMATION_SCHEMA set of views with the following query: SELECT X.UNIQUE_CONSTRAINT_NAME, "C".*, "X".* FROM "INFORMATION_SCHEMA"."KEY_COLUMN_USAGE" AS "C" INNER JOIN "INFORMATION_SCHEMA"."REFERENTIAL_CONSTRAINTS" AS "X" ON "C"."CONSTRAINT_NAME" = "X"."CONSTRAINT_NAME" AND "C"."TABLE_NAME" = 'MY_TABLE' AND "C"."TABLE_SCHEMA" = 'MY_SCHEMA' Everything works perfectly well, but for one particular constraint the value of UNIQUE_CONSTRAINT_NAME column is wrong, and I need it in order to find additional information from the referenced Column. Basically, for most of the rows the UNIQUE_CONSTRAINT_NAME contains the name of the unique constraint (or PK) in the referenced table, but for one particular FK it is the name of some other unique constraint. I dropped and re-created the FK - did not help. My assumption is that the meta-data is somehow screwed. Is there a way to rebuild the meta data so that the INFORMATION_SCHEMA views would actually show the correct data?
