  • Design/Architecture Advice Needed

    - by Rachel
Summary: I have different components on homepage and each components shows some promotion to the user. I have Cart as one Component and depending upon content of the cart promotion are show. I have to track user online activities and send that information to Omniture for Report Generation. Now my components are loaded asynchronously basically are loaded when AjaxRequest is fired up and so there is not fix pattern or rather information on when components will appear on the webpages. Now in order to pass information to Omniture I need to call track function on $(document).(ready) and append information for each components(7 parameters are required by Omniture for each component). So in the init:config function of each component am calling Omniture and passing paramters but now no. of Omniture calls is directly proportional to no. of Components on the webpage but this is not acceptable as each call to Omniture is very expensive. Now I am looking for a way where in I can club the information about 7 parameters and than make one Call to Omniture wherein I pass those information. Points to note is that I do not know when the components are loaded and so there is no pre-defined time or no. of components that would be loaded. The thing is am calling track function when document is ready but components are loaded after call to Omniture has been made and so my question is Q: How can I collect the information for all the components and than just make one call to Omniture to send those information ? As mentioned, I do not know when the components are loaded as they are done on the Ajax Request. Hope I am able to explain my challenge and would appreciate if some one can provide from Design/Architect Solutions for the Challenge.

  • Java implementing Exception Handling

    - by user69514
    I am trying to implement an OutOfStockException for when the user attempts to buy more items than there are available. I'm not sure if my implementation is correct. Does this look OK to you? public class OutOfStockException extends Exception { public OutOfStockException(){ super(); } public OutOfStockException(String s){ super(s); } } This is the class where I need to test it: import javax.swing.JOptionPane; public class SwimItems { static final int MAX = 100; public static void main (String [] args) { Item [] items = new Item[MAX]; int numItems; numItems = fillFreebies(items); numItems += fillTaxable(items,numItems); numItems += fillNonTaxable(items,numItems); sellStuff(items, numItems); } private static int num(String which) { int n = 0; do { try{ n=Integer.parseInt(JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter number of "+which+" items to add to stock:")); } catch(NumberFormatException nfe){ System.out.println("Number Format Exception in num method"); } } while (n < 1 || n > MAX/3); return n; } private static int fillFreebies(Item [] list) { int n = num("FREEBIES"); for (int i = 0; i < n; i++) try{ list [i] = new Item(JOptionPane.showInputDialog("What freebie item will you give away?"), Integer.parseInt(JOptionPane.showInputDialog("How many do you have?"))); } catch(NumberFormatException nfe){ System.out.println("Number Format Exception in fillFreebies method"); } catch(ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException e){ System.out.println("Array Index Out Of Bounds Exception in fillFreebies method"); } return n; } private static int fillTaxable(Item [] list, int number) { int n = num("Taxable Items"); for (int i = number ; i < n + number; i++) try{ list [i] = new TaxableItem(JOptionPane.showInputDialog("What taxable item will you sell?"), Double.parseDouble(JOptionPane.showInputDialog("How much will you charge (not including tax) for each?")), Integer.parseInt(JOptionPane.showInputDialog("How many do you have?"))); } catch(NumberFormatException nfe){ System.out.println("Number Format Exception in fillTaxable method"); } catch(ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException e){ System.out.println("Array Index Out Of Bounds Exception in fillTaxable method"); } return n; } private static int fillNonTaxable(Item [] list, int number) { int n = num("Non-Taxable Items"); for (int i = number ; i < n + number; i++) try{ list [i] = new SaleItem(JOptionPane.showInputDialog("What non-taxable item will you sell?"), Double.parseDouble(JOptionPane.showInputDialog("How much will you charge for each?")), Integer.parseInt(JOptionPane.showInputDialog("How many do you have?"))); } catch(NumberFormatException nfe){ System.out.println("Number Format Exception in fillNonTaxable method"); } catch(ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException e){ System.out.println("Array Index Out Of Bounds Exception in fillNonTaxable method"); } return n; } private static String listEm(Item [] all, int n, boolean numInc) { String list = "Items: "; for (int i = 0; i < n; i++) { try{ list += "\n"+ (i+1)+".   • Anatomy of a .NET Assembly - Custom attribute encoding

    - by Simon Cooper
In my previous post, I covered how field, method, and other types of signatures are encoded in a .NET assembly. Custom attribute signatures differ quite a bit from these, which consequently affects attribute specifications in C#. Custom attribute specifications In C#, you can apply a custom attribute to a type or type member, specifying a constructor as well as the values of fields or properties on the attribute type: public class ExampleAttribute : Attribute { public ExampleAttribute(int ctorArg1, string ctorArg2) { ... } public Type ExampleType { get; set; } } [Example(5, "6", ExampleType = typeof(string))] public class C { ... } How does this specification actually get encoded and stored in an assembly? Specification blob values Custom attribute specification signatures use the same building blocks as other types of signatures; the ELEMENT_TYPE structure. However, they significantly differ from other types of signatures, in that the actual parameter values need to be stored along with type information. There are two types of specification arguments in a signature blob; fixed args and named args. Fixed args are the arguments to the attribute type constructor, named arguments are specified after the constructor arguments to provide a value to a field or property on the constructed attribute type (PropertyName = propValue) Values in an attribute blob are limited to one of the basic types (one of the number types, character, or boolean), a reference to a type, an enum (which, in .NET, has to use one of the integer types as a base representation), or arrays of any of those. Enums and the basic types are easy to store in a blob - you simply store the binary representation. Strings are stored starting with a compressed integer indicating the length of the string, followed by the UTF8 characters. Array values start with an integer indicating the number of elements in the array, then the item values concatentated together. Rather than using a coded token, Type values are stored using a string representing the type name and fully qualified assembly name (for example, MyNs.MyType, MyAssembly, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=0123456789abcdef). If the type is in the current assembly or mscorlib then just the type name can be used. This is probably done to prevent direct references between assemblies solely because of attribute specification arguments; assemblies can be loaded in the reflection-only context and attribute arguments still processed, without loading the entire assembly. Fixed and named arguments Each entry in the CustomAttribute metadata table contains a reference to the object the attribute is applied to, the attribute constructor, and the specification blob. The number and type of arguments to the constructor (the fixed args) can be worked out by the method signature referenced by the attribute constructor, and so the fixed args can simply be concatenated together in the blob without any extra type information. Named args are different. These specify the value to assign to a field or property once the attribute type has been constructed. In the CLR, fields and properties can be overloaded just on their type; different fields and properties can have the same name. Therefore, to uniquely identify a field or property you need: Whether it's a field or property (indicated using byte values 0x53 and 0x54, respectively) The field or property type The field or property name After the fixed arg values is a 2-byte number specifying the number of named args in the blob. Each named argument has the above information concatenated together, mostly using the basic ELEMENT_TYPE values, in the same way as a method or field signature. A Type argument is represented using the byte 0x50, and an enum argument is represented using the byte 0x55 followed by a string specifying the name and assembly of the enum type. The named argument property information is followed by the argument value, using the same encoding as fixed args. Boxed objects This would be all very well, were it not for object and object[]. Arguments and properties of type object allow a value of any allowed argument type to be specified. As a result, more information needs to be specified in the blob to interpret the argument bytes as the correct type. So, the argument value is simple prepended with the type of the value by specifying the ELEMENT_TYPE or name of the enum the value represents. For named arguments, a field or property of type object is represented using the byte 0x51, with the actual type specified in the argument value. Some examples... All property signatures start with the 2-byte value 0x0001. Similar to my previous post in the series, names in capitals correspond to a particular byte value in the ELEMENT_TYPE structure. For strings, I'll simply give the string value, rather than the length and UTF8 encoding in the actual blob. I'll be using the following enum and attribute types to demonstrate specification encodings: class AttrAttribute : Attribute { public AttrAttribute() {} public AttrAttribute(Type[] tArray) {} public AttrAttribute(object o) {} public AttrAttribute(MyEnum e) {} public AttrAttribute(ushort x, int y) {} public AttrAttribute(string str, Type type1, Type type2) {} public int Prop1 { get; set; } public object Prop2 { get; set; } public object[] ObjectArray; } enum MyEnum : int { Val1 = 1, Val2 = 2 } Now, some examples: Here, the the specification binds to the (ushort, int) attribute constructor, with fixed args only. The specification blob starts off with a prolog, followed by the two constructor arguments, then the number of named arguments (zero): [Attr(42, 84)] 0x0001 0x002a 0x00000054 0x0000 An example of string and type encoding: [Attr("MyString", typeof(Array), typeof(System.Windows.Forms.Form))] 0x0001 "MyString" "System.Array" "System.Windows.Forms.Form, System.Windows.Forms, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" 0x0000 As you can see, the full assembly specification of a type is only needed if the type isn't in the current assembly or mscorlib. Note, however, that the C# compiler currently chooses to fully-qualify mscorlib types anyway. An object argument (this binds to the object attribute constructor), and two named arguments (a null string is represented by 0xff and the empty string by 0x00) [Attr((ushort)40, Prop1 = 12, Prop2 = "")] 0x0001 U2 0x0028 0x0002 0x54 I4 "Prop1" 0x0000000c 0x54 0x51 "Prop2" STRING 0x00 Right, more complicated now. A type array as a fixed argument: [Attr(new[] { typeof(string), typeof(object) })] 0x0001 0x00000002 // the number of elements "System.String" "System.Object" 0x0000 An enum value, which is simply represented using the underlying value. The CLR works out that it's an enum using information in the attribute constructor signature: [Attr(MyEnum.Val1)] 0x0001 0x00000001 0x0000 And finally, a null array, and an object array as a named argument: [Attr((Type[])null, ObjectArray = new object[] { (byte)2, typeof(decimal), null, MyEnum.Val2 })] 0x0001 0xffffffff 0x0001 0x53 SZARRAY 0x51 "ObjectArray" 0x00000004 U1 0x02 0x50 "System.Decimal" STRING 0xff 0x55 "MyEnum" 0x00000002 As you'll notice, a null object is encoded as a null string value, and a null array is represented using a length of -1 (0xffffffff). How does this affect C#? So, we can now explain why the limits on attribute arguments are so strict in C#. Attribute specification blobs are limited to basic numbers, enums, types, and arrays. As you can see, this is because the raw CLR encoding can only accommodate those types. Special byte patterns have to be used to indicate object, string, Type, or enum values in named arguments; you can't specify an arbitary object type, as there isn't a generalised way of encoding the resulting value in the specification blob. In particular, decimal values can't be encoded, as it isn't a 'built-in' CLR type that has a native representation (you'll notice that decimal constants in C# programs are compiled as several integer arguments to DecimalConstantAttribute). Jagged arrays also aren't natively supported, although you can get around it by using an array as a value to an object argument: [Attr(new object[] { new object[] { new Type[] { typeof(string) } }, 42 })] Finally... Phew! That was a bit longer than I thought it would be. Custom attribute encodings are complicated! Hopefully this series has been an informative look at what exactly goes on inside a .NET assembly. In the next blog posts, I'll be carrying on with the 'Inside Red Gate' series.

  • SQL Server database change workflow best practices

    - by kubi
The Background My group has 4 SQL Server Databases: Production UAT Test Dev I work in the Dev environment. When the time comes to promote the objects I've been working on (tables, views, functions, stored procs) I make a request of my manager, who promotes to Test. After testing, she submits a request to an Admin who promotes to UAT. After successful user testing, the same Admin promotes to Production. The Problem The entire process is awkward for a few reasons. Each person must manually track their changes. If I update, add, remove any objects I need to track them so that my promotion request contains everything I've done. In theory, if I miss something testing or UAT should catch it, but this isn't certain and it's a waste of the tester's time, anyway. Lots of changes I make are iterative and done in a GUI, which means there's no record of what changes I made, only the end result (at least as far as I know). We're in the fairly early stages of building out a data mart, so the majority of the changes made, at least count-wise, are minor things: changing the data type for a column, altering the names of tables as we crystallize what they'll be used for, tweaking functions and stored procs, etc. The Question People have been doing this kind of work for decades, so I imagine there have got to be a much better way to manage the process. What I would love is if I could run a diff between two databases to see how the structure was different, use that diff to generate a change script, use that change script as my promotion request. Is this possible? If not, are there any other ways to organize this process? For the record, we're a 100% Microsoft shop, just now updating everything to SQL Server 2008, so any tools available in that package would be fair game.

I have a serious problem, I'm developing an application that mesures on call time during a call; the problem presents when, with the phone on the ear, the thread that the timer has, blocks and no longer responds before taking off my ear. • Accessing global variables in a flash[:notice]

    - by Trip
This is deals_controller.rb. And it works like this, except two things. Not sure how to call Deal.count to add in my flash[:notice] . I get the hunch that its not calling something global. I need that contional statement back, as I'm pretty sure its responsible for actually adding the new @deal . So I assume my syntax is off. Do note, I added an extra 'end' when I uncomment this block. def create -# This will use the disclaimer_ids submitted from the check boxes in the view -# to add/delete deal.disclaimers entries to matched the list of checked boxes. @deal = Deal.new(params[:deal]) -# <------I Need this commented out IF statement back ------- -#if @deal.valid? && @organization.deals << @deal flash[:notice] = 'Your promotion is published! You may find it in the number 1 position of our #{deal.count} previously posted promotions. To see your promotion, click here."' respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to organization_deals_path(@organization) } format.js -# I Need this IF Statement Back! -#else -#@disclaimers = Disclaimer.all -#render :action = 'new' end end Thanks!

  • SQL SERVER – Merge Operations – Insert, Update, Delete in Single Execution

    - by pinaldave
This blog post is written in response to T-SQL Tuesday hosted by Jorge Segarra (aka SQLChicken). I have been very active using these Merge operations in my development. However, I have found out from my consultancy work and friends that these amazing operations are not utilized by them most of the time. Here is my attempt to bring the necessity of using the Merge Operation to surface one more time. MERGE is a new feature that provides an efficient way to do multiple DML operations. In earlier versions of SQL Server, we had to write separate statements to INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE data based on certain conditions; however, at present, by using the MERGE statement, we can include the logic of such data changes in one statement that even checks when the data is matched and then just update it, and similarly, when the data is unmatched, it is inserted. One of the most important advantages of MERGE statement is that the entire data are read and processed only once. In earlier versions, three different statements had to be written to process three different activities (INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE); however, by using MERGE statement, all the update activities can be done in one pass of database table. I have written about these Merge Operations earlier in my blog post over here SQL SERVER – 2008 – Introduction to Merge Statement – One Statement for INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE. I was asked by one of the readers that how do we know that this operator was doing everything in single pass and was not calling this Merge Operator multiple times. Let us run the same example which I have used earlier; I am listing the same here again for convenience. --Let’s create Student Details and StudentTotalMarks and inserted some records. USE tempdb GO CREATE TABLE StudentDetails ( StudentID INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, StudentName VARCHAR(15) ) GO INSERT INTO StudentDetails VALUES(1,'SMITH') INSERT INTO StudentDetails VALUES(2,'ALLEN') INSERT INTO StudentDetails VALUES(3,'JONES') INSERT INTO StudentDetails VALUES(4,'MARTIN') INSERT INTO StudentDetails VALUES(5,'JAMES') GO CREATE TABLE StudentTotalMarks ( StudentID INTEGER REFERENCES StudentDetails, StudentMarks INTEGER ) GO INSERT INTO StudentTotalMarks VALUES(1,230) INSERT INTO StudentTotalMarks VALUES(2,255) INSERT INTO StudentTotalMarks VALUES(3,200) GO -- Select from Table SELECT * FROM StudentDetails GO SELECT * FROM StudentTotalMarks GO -- Merge Statement MERGE StudentTotalMarks AS stm USING (SELECT StudentID,StudentName FROM StudentDetails) AS sd ON stm.StudentID = sd.StudentID WHEN MATCHED AND stm.StudentMarks > 250 THEN DELETE WHEN MATCHED THEN UPDATE SET stm.StudentMarks = stm.StudentMarks + 25 WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN INSERT(StudentID,StudentMarks) VALUES(sd.StudentID,25); GO -- Select from Table SELECT * FROM StudentDetails GO SELECT * FROM StudentTotalMarks GO -- Clean up DROP TABLE StudentDetails GO DROP TABLE StudentTotalMarks GO The Merge Join performs very well and the following result is obtained. Let us check the execution plan for the merge operator. You can click on following image to enlarge it. Let us evaluate the execution plan for the Table Merge Operator only. We can clearly see that the Number of Executions property suggests value 1. Which is quite clear that in a single PASS, the Merge Operation completes the operations of Insert, Update and Delete. I strongly suggest you all to use this operation, if possible, in your development. I have seen this operation implemented in many data warehousing applications. • Musings on the launch of SQL Monitor

    - by Phil Factor
For several years, I was responsible for the smooth running of a large number of enterprise database servers. We ran a network monitoring tool that was primitive by today’s standards but which performed the useful function of polling every system, including all the Servers in my charge. It ran a configurable script for each service that you needed to monitor that was merely required to return one of a number of integer values. These integer values represented the pain level of the service, from 10 (“hurtin’ real bad”) to 1 (“Things is great”). Not only could you program the visual appearance of each server on the network diagram according to the value of the integer, but you could even opt to run a sound file. Very soon, we had a large TFT Screen, high on the wall of the server room, with every server represented by an icon, and a speaker next to it that would give out a series of grunts, groans, snores, shrieks and funeral marches, depending on the problem. One glance at the display, and you could dive in with iSQL/QA/SSMS and check what was going on with your favourite diagnostic tools. If you saw a server icon burst into flames on the screen or droop like a jelly, you dropped your mug of coffee to do it.  It was real fun, but I remember it more for the huge difference it made to have that real-time visibility into how your servers are performing. The management soon stopped making jokes about the real reason we wanted the TFT screen. (It rendered DVDs beautifully they said; particularly flesh-tints). If you are instantly alerted when things start to go wrong, then there was a good chance you could fix it before being alerted to the problem by the users of the system.  There is a world of difference between this sort of tool, one that gives whoever is ‘on watch’ in the server room the first warning of a potential problem on one of any number of servers, and the breed of tool that attempts to provide some sort of prosthetic DBA Brain. I like to get the early warning, to get the right information to help to diagnose a problem: No auto-fix, but just the information. I prefer to leave the task of ascertaining the exact cause of a problem to my own routines, custom code, intuition and forensic instincts. A simulated aircraft cockpit doesn’t do anything for me, especially before I know where I should be flying.  Time has moved on, and that TFT screen is now, with SQL Monitor, an iPad or any other mobile or static device that can support a browser. Rather than trying to reproduce the conceptual topology of the servers, it lists them in their groups so as to give a display that scales with the increasing number of databases you monitor.  It gives the history of the major events and trends for the servers. It gives the icons and colours that you can spot out of the corner of your eye, but goes on to give you just enough information in drill-down to give you a much clearer idea of where to look with your DBA tools and routines. It doesn't swamp you with information.  Whereas a few server and database-level problems are pretty easily fixed, others depend on judgement and experience to sort out.  Although the idea of an application that automates the bulk of a DBA’s skills is attractive to many, I can’t see it happening soon. SQL Server’s complexity increases faster than the panaceas can be created. In the meantime, I believe that the best way of helping  DBAs  is to make the monitoring process as simple and effective as possible,  and provide the right sort of detail and ‘evidence’ to allow them to decide on the fix. In the end, it is still down to the skill of the DBA.

  • Why is 0 false?

    - by Morwenn
This question may sound dumb, but why does 0 evaluates to false and any other [integer] value to true is most of programming languages? String comparison Since the question seems a little bit too simple, I will explain myself a little bit more: first of all, it may seem evident to any programmer, but why wouldn't there be a programming language - there may actually be, but not any I used - where 0 evaluates to true and all the other [integer] values to false? That one remark may seem random, but I have a few examples where it may have been a good idea. First of all, let's take the example of strings three-way comparison, I will take C's strcmp as example: any programmer trying C as his first language may be tempted to write the following code: if (strcmp(str1, str2)) { // Do something... } Since strcmp returns 0 which evaluates to false when the strings are equal, what the beginning programmer tried to do fails miserably and he generally does not understand why at first. Had 0 evaluated to true instead, this function could have been used in its most simple expression - the one above - when comparing for equality, and the proper checks for -1 and 1 would have been done only when needed. We would have considered the return type as bool (in our minds I mean) most of the time. Moreover, let's introduce a new type, sign, that just takes values -1, 0 and 1. That can be pretty handy. Imagine there is a spaceship operator in C++ and we want it for std::string (well, there already is the compare function, but spaceship operator is more fun). The declaration would currently be the following one: sign operator<=>(const std::string& lhs, const std::string& rhs); Had 0 been evaluated to true, the spaceship operator wouldn't even exist, and we could have declared operator== that way: sign operator==(const std::string& lhs, const std::string& rhs); This operator== would have handled three-way comparison at once, and could still be used to perform the following check while still being able to check which string is lexicographically superior to the other when needed: if (str1 == str2) { // Do something... } Old errors handling We now have exceptions, so this part only applies to the old languages where no such thing exist (C for example). If we look at C's standard library (and POSIX one too), we can see for sure that maaaaany functions return 0 when successful and any integer otherwise. I have sadly seen some people do this kind of things: #define TRUE 0 // ... if (some_function() == TRUE) { // Here, TRUE would mean success... // Do something } If we think about how we think in programming, we often have the following reasoning pattern: Do something Did it work? Yes -> That's ok, one case to handle No -> Why? Many cases to handle If we think about it again, it would have made sense to put the only neutral value, 0, to yes (and that's how C's functions work), while all the other values can be there to solve the many cases of the no. However, in all the programming languages I know (except maybe some experimental esotheric languages), that yes evaluates to false in an if condition, while all the no cases evaluate to true. There are many situations when "it works" represents one case while "it does not work" represents many probable causes. If we think about it that way, having 0 evaluate to true and the rest to false would have made much more sense. Conclusion My conclusion is essentially my original question: why did we design languages where 0 is false and the other values are true, taking in account my few examples above and maybe some more I did not think of? Follow-up: It's nice to see there are many answers with many ideas and as many possible reasons for it to be like that. I love how passionate you seem to be about it. I originaly asked this question out of boredom, but since you seem so passionate, I decided to go a little further and ask about the rationale behind the Boolean choice for 0 and 1 on Math.SE :)

  • Android ListView: getTag() returns null

    - by TianDong
Hallo all, I have a ListView which contains a Button in each line. The following code is part of the getView() Method public View getView(final int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { View row = convertView; TextView tv; Button saveA_button; EditText edittext; FITB_ViewWrapper wrapper; if (row == null) { LayoutInflater li = (LayoutInflater) getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); if (ChooseMode_Act.modeInfo.equalsIgnoreCase("Training")) { row = li.inflate(R.layout.exercise_for_training_fitb,parent, false); }else { row = li.inflate(R.layout.exercise_for_exam_fitb,parent, false); } wrapper=new FITB_ViewWrapper(row); row.setTag(wrapper); if (ChooseMode_Act.modeInfo.equalsIgnoreCase("Exam")) { saveA_button=wrapper.getSaveAnswer_Button(); OnClickListener l=new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { Integer mp=(Integer)v.getTag(); Log.i("mp","my Position is: "+mp); } }; saveA_button.setOnClickListener(l); } }else { wrapper=(FITB_ViewWrapper) row.getTag(); } For my App i need to known to which item the Button belongs to, so i try to detect it. The code Log.i("mp","my Position is: "+mp); puts out a message: mp myPosition is: null I can't understand, why do i get a "null" but not an Integer? How can i find out the Position of an Item in a ListView? Thanks a lot.

  • Solving Diophantine Equations Using Python

    - by HARSHITH
In mathematics, a Diophantine equation (named for Diophantus of Alexandria, a third century Greek mathematician) is a polynomial equation where the variables can only take on integer values. Although you may not realize it, you have seen Diophantine equations before: one of the most famous Diophantine equations is: We are not certain that McDonald's knows about Diophantine equations (actually we doubt that they do), but they use them! McDonald's sells Chicken McNuggets in packages of 6, 9 or 20 McNuggets. Thus, it is possible, for example, to buy exactly 15 McNuggets (with one package of 6 and a second package of 9), but it is not possible to buy exactly 16 nuggets, since no non- negative integer combination of 6's, 9's and 20's adds up to 16. To determine if it is possible to buy exactly n McNuggets, one has to solve a Diophantine equation: find non-negative integer values of a, b, and c, such that 6a + 9b + 20c = n. Write an iterative program that finds the largest number of McNuggets that cannot be bought in exact quantity. Your program should print the answer in the following format (where the correct number is provided in place of n): "Largest number of McNuggets that cannot be bought in exact quantity: n"

  • Subsonic : Can’t decide which property to consider the Key? foreign key issue.

    - by AJ
Hi I am trying to select count of rows from a table which has foreign keys of two tables. The C# code threw the error mentioned below. So, I added a primary key column to the table (schema as follows) and regenerated the code. But still the same error is coming. Error : Can't decide which property to consider the Key - you can create one called 'ID' or mark one with SubSonicPrimaryKey attribute sqLite Table schema CREATE TABLE "AlbumDocuments" ("Id" INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT NOT NULL , "AlbumId" INTEGER NOT NULL CONSTRAINT fk_AlbumId REFERENCES Albums(Id) , "DocumentId" INTEGER NOT NULL CONSTRAINT fk_DocumentId REFERENCES Documents(Id)) C# code int selectAlbumDocumentsCount = new SubSonic.Query.Select() .From<DocSafeDB.DataLayer.AlbumDocumentsTable>() .Where(DocSafeDB.DataLayer.AlbumDocumentsTable.AlbumIdColumn).In(request.AlbumId) .Execute(); Not sure what I should be doing next as I can't do where against primary key because I don;t have that info. So my questions are: How do I select count of rows against foreign key column? Is primary key required in this scenario? I have several things but not sure why its not working. To me it looks like a very normal use case. Please advise. Thanks AJ

  • Rails model belongs to model that belongs to model but i want to use another name

    - by Micke
Hello. This may be a stupid question but im just starting to learn Rail thats why i am asking thsi question. I have one model called "User" which handles all the users in my community. Now i want to add a guestbook to every user. So i created a model called "user_guestbook" and inserted this into the new model: belongs_to :user and this into the user model: has_one :user_guestbook, :as => :guestbook The next thing i did was to add a new model to handle the posts inside the guestbook. I named it "guestbook_posts" and added this code into the new model: belongs_to :user_guestbook And this into the user_guestbook model: has_many :guestbook_posts, :as => :posts What i wanted to achive was to be able to fetch all the posts to a certain user by: @user = User.find(1) puts @user.guestbook.posts But it doesnt work for me. I dont know what i am doing wrong and if there is any easier way to do this please tell me so. Just to note, i have created some migrations for it to as follows: create_user_guestbook: t.integer :user_id create_guestbook_posts: t.integer :guestbook_id t.integer :from_user t.string :post Thanks in advance!

  • Problem with cascade delete using Entity Framework and System.Data.SQLite

    - by jamone
I have a SQLite DB that is set up so when I delete a Person the delete is cascaded. This works fine when I manually delete a Person (all records that reference the PersonID are deleted). But when I use Entity Framework to delete the Person I get an error: System.InvalidOperationException: The operation failed: The relationship could not be changed because one or more of the foreign-key properties is non-nullable. When a change is made to a relationship, the related foreign-key property is set to a null value. If the foreign-key does not support null values, a new relationship must be defined, the foreign-key property must be assigned another non-null value, or the unrelated object must be deleted. I don't understand why this is occurring. My trigger is set to clean up all related objects before deleting the object it was told to delete. When I go into the model editor and check the properties of the relationship it shows no action for the OnDelete property. Why isn't this set correctly by pulling it from the DB? If I change this value to Cascade everything works properly, but I would rather not rely on this manual change because what if I refresh my model from the DB and it looses that. Here's the relivent SQL for my tables. CREATE TABLE [SomeTable] ( [SomeTableID] INTEGER NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT, [PersonID] INTEGER NOT NULL REFERENCES [Person](PersonID) ON DELETE CASCADE ) CREATE TABLE [Person] ( [PersonID] INTEGER NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT )

CREATE TABLE [SomeTable] ( [SomeTableID] INTEGER NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT, [PersonID] INTEGER NOT NULL REFERENCES [Person](PersonID) ON DELETE CASCADE ) CREATE TABLE [Person] ( [PersonID] INTEGER NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT )

  • sqlalchemy date type in 0.6 migration using mssql

    - by nosklo
I'm connection to mssql server through pyodbc, via FreeTDS odbc driver, on linux ubuntu 10.04. Sqlalchemy 0.5 uses DATETIME for sqlalchemy.Date() fields. Now Sqlalchemy 0.6 uses DATE, but sql server 2000 doesn't have a DATE type. How can I make DATETIME be the default for sqlalchemy.Date() on sqlalchemy 0.6 mssql+pyodbc dialect? I'd like to keep it as clean as possible. Here's code to reproduce the issue: import sqlalchemy from sqlalchemy import Table, Column, MetaData, Date, Integer, create_engine engine = create_engine( 'mssql+pyodbc://sa:sa@myserver/mydb?driver=FreeTDS') m = MetaData(bind=engine) tb = sqlalchemy.Table('test_date', m, Column('id', Integer, primary_key=True), Column('dt', Date()) ) tb.create() And here is the traceback I'm getting: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/tmp/teste.py", line 15, in <module> tb.create() File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/schema.py", line 428, in create bind.create(self, checkfirst=checkfirst) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py", line 1647, in create connection=connection, **kwargs) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py", line 1682, in _run_visitor **kwargs).traverse_single(element) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/sql/visitors.py", line 77, in traverse_single return meth(obj, **kw) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/ddl.py", line 58, in visit_table self.connection.execute(schema.CreateTable(table)) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py", line 1157, in execute params) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py", line 1210, in _execute_ddl return self.__execute_context(context) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py", line 1268, in __execute_context context.parameters[0], context=context) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py", line 1367, in _cursor_execute context) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/base.py", line 1360, in _cursor_execute context) File "/home/nosklo/.local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sqlalchemy/engine/default.py", line 277, in do_execute cursor.execute(statement, parameters) sqlalchemy.exc.ProgrammingError: (ProgrammingError) ('42000', '[42000] [FreeTDS][SQL Server]Column or parameter #2: Cannot find data type DATE. • Accessing an enum stored in a QVariant

    - by Henry Thacker
Hi, I have registered an enumeration type "ClefType" within my header file - this enum is registered with the MetaObject system using the Q_DECLARE_METATYPE and Q_ENUMS macros. qRegisterMetaType is also called in the class constructor. This allows me to use this type in a Q_PROPERTY, this all works fine. However, later on, I need to be able to get hold of the Q_PROPERTY of this enum type, given the object - in a form that is suitable for serialization. Ideally, it would be useful to store the integer value for that enum member, because I don't want this to be specific to the type of enum that is used - eventually I want to have several different enums. // This is inside a loop over all the properties on a given object QMetaProperty property = metaObject->property(propertyId); QString propertyName = propertyMeta.name(); QVariant variantValue = propertyMeta.read(serializeObject); // If, internally, this QVariant is of type 'ClefType', // how do I pull out the integer value for this enum? Unfortunately variantValue.toInt(); does not work - custom enums don't seem to be directly 'castable' to an integer value. Thanks in advance, Henry

  • Deleting JPA entity containing @CollectionOfElements throws ConstraintViolationException

    - by Lyle
    I'm trying to delete entities which contain lists of Integer, and I'm getting ConstraintViolationExceptions because of the foreign key on the table generated to hold the integers. It appears that the delete isn't cascading to the mapped collection. I've done quite a bit of searching, but all of the examples I've seen on how to accomplish this are in reference to a mapped collection of other entities which can be annotated; here I'm just storing a list of Integer. Here is the relevant excerpt from the class I'm storing: @Entity @Table(name="CHANGE_IDS") @GenericGenerator( name = "CHANGE_ID_GEN", strategy = "org.hibernate.id.enhanced.SequenceStyleGenerator", parameters = { @Parameter(name="sequence_name", value="course_changes_seq"), @Parameter(name="increment_size", value="5000"), @Parameter(name=" optimizer", value="pooled") } ) @NamedQueries ({ @NamedQuery( name="Changes.getByStatus", query= "SELECT c " + "FROM DChanges c " + "WHERE c.status = :status "), @NamedQuery( name="Changes.deleteByStatus", query= "DELETE " + "FROM Changes c " + "WHERE c.status = :status ") }) public class Changes { @Id @GeneratedValue(generator="CHANGE_ID_GEN") @Column(name = "ID") private final long id; @Enumerated(EnumType.STRING) @Column(name = "STATUS", length = 20, nullable = false) private final Status status; @Column(name="DOC_ID") @org.hibernate.annotations.CollectionOfElements @org.hibernate.annotations.IndexColumn(name="DOC_ID_ORDER") private List<Integer> docIds; } I'm deleting the Changes objects using a @NamedQuery: final Query deleteQuery = this.entityManager.createNamedQuery("Changes.deleteByStatus"); deleteQuery.setParameter("status", Status.POST_FLIP); final int deleted = deleteQuery.executeUpdate(); this.logger.info("Deleted " + deleted + " POST_FLIP Changes");
