  • How to handle the pylint message: Warning: Method could be a function

    Being new to Python, I decided to get some feedback on a class I'd written ASAP so I ran it against pylint. Is the message it gave "Warning: Method could be a function" telling me that it would be better to move this method out of the class because it doesn't use any instance variables? In c# I would make this a static method. What's the most pythonic thing to do here?

    I have an ASP.NET MVC application with a separate project added for tests. I know the plusses and minuses of using the connection to the database when running unit tests, and I still want to use it. Yet, every time when I run the tests with the NUnit tool, they all fail due to my Data Context being null. I heard something about having a separate config file for the tests assembly, but i am not sure whether I did it properly, or whether that works at all.

When the user clicks the hyperlink I'm trying to close the parent dialog (the dialog that this content is in) but it's not doing anything. I know that the alert gets hit and that there is an object for parent.$('#dialog'); so not sure why it won't close the parent dialog

  • Between a jsf page and a managed bean, why the getter method is called twice

    Hi, I have a jsf page with a form has an outputtext in it. The value of outputtext component is called from a backing bean (or managed bean). I know when I code it as #{MyBean.myString} Jsf rename it and calls getMyString() method. However the wierd thing is, when I put a breakpoint to the getter method of this component, I see it is called twice during the page is being rendered. The outputtext is in a h:form, and it is the only component wich is bind to a backingbean. I mean, it is so wierd that jsf should get the value when it first come to the getter method, however it needs to go to the getter method twice. Can you explain what is the reason of this behaviour in jsf? Any help would be appreciated, Best wishes, Baris

    Hi, I've just added a ttf file to the project (c# 2008 express) as "file" and build option to embeded resource. I'm having problems when trying to set this font like this: (I know the next line is wrong...) this.label1.Font = AlarmWatch.Properties.Resources.Baby_Universe; Error 1 Cannot implicitly convert type 'byte[]' to 'System.Drawing.Font' C:\Users\hongo\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\AlarmWatch\AlarmWatch\Form1.Designer.cs 57 32 AlarmWatch I know it is byte[] cause I've set the option build as embeded resource, but...comparing with this line that is correct "this.label1.Font = new System.Drawing.Font("OCR A Extended", 24F, System.Drawing.FontStyle.Regular, System.Drawing.GraphicsUnit.Point, ((byte)(0)));" How can I set this.label1 to use the new font??? thanks

  • Calling an Excel Add-In method from C# application or vice versa

    I have an Excel VBA add-in with a public method in a bas file. This method currently creates a VB6 COM object, which exists in a running VB6 exe/vbp. The VB6 app loads in data and then the Excel add-in method can call methods on the VB6 COM object to load the data into an existing Excel xls. This is all currently working. We have since converted our VB6 app to C#. My question is: What is the best/easiest way to mimic this behavior with the C#/.NET app? I'm thinking I may not be able to pull the data from the .NET app into Excel from the add-in method since the .Net app needs to be running with data loaded (so no using a stand-alone C# class library). Maybe we can, instead, push the data from .NET to Excel by accessing the VBA add-in method from the C# code?   • Pass enum value to method which is called by dynamic object

    hello. I'm working on program which dynamically(in runtime) loads dlls. For an example: Microsoft.AnalysisServices.dll. In this dll we have this enum: namespace Microsoft.AnalysisServices { [Flags] public enum UpdateOptions { Default = 0, ExpandFull = 1, AlterDependents = 2, } } and we also have this class Cube: namespace Microsoft.AnalysisServices { public sealed class Cube : ... { public Cube(string name); public Cube(string name, string id); .. .. .. } } I dynamically load this dll and create object Cube. Than i call a method Cube.Update(). This method deploy Cube to SQL Analysis server. But if i want to call this method with parameters Cube.Update(UpdateOptions.ExpandFull) i get error, because method doesn't get appropriate parameter.   • Display user name in reference to user id in django template

    I expect this is an easy question. For some reason, I don't have a solution yet. I have an object set from django reversion: version_list. Each object in the set has a user id attached to it. How do I grab the user names that correspond to the user ID's? To try to be clearer, if each object in version_list has a name, date, and user id, how can I join the version_list set with the user table to figure out what user id goes with which name? This is done in the view, or the template?

  • FLEX: the custom component is still a Null Object when I invoke its method

    Hi, I've created a custom component in Flex, and I've created it from the main application with actionscript. Successively I invoke its "setName" method to pass a String. I get the following run-time error (occurring only if I use the setName method): TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. I guess I get it because I'm calling to newUser.setName method from main application before the component is completely created. How can I ask actionscript to "wait" until when the component is created to call the method ? Should I create an event listener in the main application waiting for it ? I would prefer to avoid it if possible.   • Child sProc cannot reference a Local temp table created in parent sProc

    On our production SQL2000 instance, we have a database with hundreds of stored procedures, many of which use a technique of creating a #TEMP table "early" on in the code and then various inner stored procedures get EXECUTEd by this parent sProc. In SQL2000, the inner or "child" sProc have no problem INSERTing into #TEMP or SELECTing data from #TEMP. In short, I assume they can all refer to this #TEMP because they use the same connection. In testing with SQL2008, I find 2 manifestations of different behavior. First, at design time, the new "intellisense" feature is complaining in Management Studio EDIT of the child sProc that #TEMP is an "invalid object name". But worse is that at execution time, the invoked parent sProc fails inside the nested child sProc. Someone suggested that the solution is to change to ##TEMP which is apparently a global temporary table which can be referenced from different connections. That seems too drastic a proposal both from the amount of work to chase down all the problem spots as well as possible/probable nasty effects when these sProcs are invoked from web applications (i.e. multiuser issues). Is this indeed a change in behavior in SQL2005 or SQL2008 regarding #TEMP (local temp tables)? We skipped 2005 but I'd like to learn more precisely why this is occuring before I go off and try to hack out the needed fixes. Thanks.

(Ie., it will always select executeAction(PersonVO person) ). What's the most appropriate way to select the correct method? The internet tells me that using instanceof gets me slapped. However, I don't see the appropraite way to select the method without explictly casting abstractPerson to one of the other concrete types. Thanks Marty
