• A maximum character limit on the preg functions?

  On my site I use output buffering to grab all the output and then run it through a process function before sending it out to the browser (I don't replace anything, just break it into more manageable pieces). In this particular case, there is a massive amount of output because it is listing out a label for every country in the database (around 240 countries). The problem is that in full, my preg_match functions seems to get skipped over, it does absolutely nothing and returns no matches. However, if I remove parts of the labels (no particular part, just random pieces to reduce characters) then the preg_match functions works again. It doesn't seem to matter what I remove from the label, it just seems to be that as long as I remove so many characters. Is there some sort of cap on what the preg functions can handle or will it time out if there is too much data to be scanned over?

  Hello, Im trying to find a regular expression that matches this kind of URL: http://sub.domain.com/selector/F/13/K/100546/sampletext/654654/K/sampletext_sampletext.html and dont match this: http://sub.domain.com/selector/F/13/K/10546/sampletext/5987/K/sample/K/101/sample_text.html only if the number of /K/ is minimum 1 and maximum 2 (something with a quantifier like {1,2}) Until this moment i have the following regexp: http://sub\.domain\.com/selector/F/[0-9]{1,2}/[a-z0-9_-]+/ Now i would need a hand to add any kind of condition like: Match this if in the text appears the /K/ from 1 to 2 times at most. • Mimic an HTTPRequest and HTTPResponse object in Java

  How do I mimic an HTTPServletRequest and HTTPServletResponse object. The reason is I want to test the behaviour of some servlets. I know JUnit probably provides this functionality but I don't know how to use it (I will learn soon) and need to do this reasonably quickly. HTTPServletRequest and HTTPServletResponse are both interfaces so they can't be instantiated. There is a HttpServletRequestWrapper which implements HttpServletRequest but it doesn't seem to have any setParameter() type methods and HttpServletResponse doesn't seem to have any implementing classes at all. How can I test my code by passing a suitable HttpServletRequest object and then checking that the received HttpServletResponse object matches what I expect?

• Unit testing a SQL code generator

  The team I'm on is currently writing code in TSQL to generate TSQL code that will be saved as scripts and later run. We're having a little difficulty in separating our unit tests between testing the code generator parts and testing the actual code that they generate. I've read through another similar question, but I was hoping to get some specific examples of what kind of unit test cases we might have. As an example, let's say that I have a bit of code that simply generates a DROP statement for a view, given the view schema and name. Do I just test that the generated code matches some expected outcome using string comparisons and then in a later integration or system test make sure that the drop actually drops the view if it exists, does nothing if the view doesn't exist, or raises an error if the view is one that we are marking as not allowing a drop?   What is the best way to choose a random file from a directory in a shell script? Here is my solution in Bash but I would be very interested for a more portable (non-GNU) version for use on Unix proper. dir='some/directory' file=`/bin/ls -1 "$dir" | sort --random-sort | head -1` path=`readlink --canonicalize "$dir/$file"` # Converts to full path echo "The randomly-selected file is: $path" Anybody have any other ideas? Edit: lhunath makes a good point about parsing ls. I guess it comes down to whether you want to be portable or not. If you have the GNU findutils and coreutils then you can do: find "$dir" -maxdepth 1 -mindepth 1 -type f -print0 \ | sort --zero-terminated --random-sort \ | sed 's/\d000.*//g/' Whew, that was fun! Also it matches my question better since I said "random file". Honsetly though, these days it's hard to imagine a Unix system deployed out there having GNU installed but not Perl 5.

  I'm producing an application with a few peculiar internal communication characteristics that make the usual suspects for data storage and transport (Qs and RDBMSs) ill-fitted. I'm wondering whether there is a product out there that matches the following characteristics: all data put into it is peristent all reads are delivered out of memory data is universally available data lives where it is most needed data is versioned (nice to have) updates are transactional (I'd like ACID characteristics) data is potentially replicated, but always in sync works on windows is based on or has bindings for .NET is really fast is really robust is redundant is scalable I'm looking at things like Microsoft codename "Velocity", but I am not sure whether it fits all of the above characteristics. Likewise, Memcached is not a perfect fit either. The current version of this app opts for an RDBMS with a signaling system for inter-system sync, but latency is too high and versioning of the DB is a pain. I need all the robustness, but with none of the trade-offs.

• Why does Perl's shift complain 'Type of arg 1 to shift must be array (not grep iterator).'?

  I've got a data structure that is a hash that contains an array of hashes. I'd like to reach in there and pull out the first hash that matches a value I'm looking for. I tried this: my $result = shift grep {$_->{name} eq 'foo'} @{$hash_ref->{list}}; But that gives me this error: Type of arg 1 to shift must be array (not grep iterator). I've re-read the perldoc for grep and I think what I'm doing makes sense. grep returns a list, right? Is it in the wrong context? I'll use a temporary variable for now, but I'd like to figure out why this doesn't work.

• Strange JavaScript Regular Expression Behavior

  I'm getting different behavior from a regular expression in JavaScript depending on whether or not I declare it using literal syntax. Using a extremely simple test HTML file: <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> var s = '3'; var regex1 = /\d/; var regex2 = new RegExp('\d'); alert(s.search(regex1)); // 0 (matches) alert(s.search(regex2)); // -1 (does not match) </script> </head> <body></body> </html> The regular expression declared with literal syntax (/\d/) works correctly, while the other (new RegExp('\d')) does not. Why on earth is this happening? I'm using Google Chrome 5.0.375.70 on Windows Vista Home Premium, if that's at all helpful.

  i am creating a mysql function which takes in a varchar and change it to a int based on a mapping table. select name, convert_to_code(country) from users where sex = 'male' here, the convert_to_code() function takes in a country name (e.g. Japan, Finland..) and change it to country code which is an integer (e.g. 1001, 2310..) based on a mapping table called country_maping like below: country_name (varchar) | country_code (int) Japan | 1001 Finland | 2310 Canada | 8756 currently, the stored function need to select country_code from country_mapping where country_name = country_name and return the query result. is that possible to create a hash data struct in SP to optimize the process so that it will not need to perform the query for each row matches the where clause. thanks in advance!

  Hi, I'm a newbie to mahout.My aim is to produce recommendations on binary user purchased data.So i applied item-item similarity model in computing top N recommendations for movie lens data assuming 1-3 ratings as a 0 and 4-5 ratings as a 1.Then i tried evaluating my recommendations with the ratings in the test-data but hardly there have been two or three matches from my top 20 recommendations to the top rated items in test data and no match for most users. • Using perl's Regexp::Grammars, how do I make a capture dependent on $MATCH?

  I've got a token like such: <delim2=((?{ $MATCH{delim} }))> and what I want to happen is for delim2 to capture and be set to the value of delim. When I run this, delim2 is set, but the capture is never done. I think this is an error in my reasoning: I'm trying to chain this form: <ALIAS= ( PATTERN )> Match pattern, save match in $MATCH{ALIAS} and this form: (?{ MATCH{delim} }) into something like this <ALIAS= ( (?{MATCH{delim}) )> Matches the value of $MATCH{delim} save to $MATCH{delim2} but this simply doesn't seem valid. I can verify my original token works <delim2=((?{ die $MATCH{delim} }))> will die with the value, and, if I hard code it, I get the right capture and everything works <delim2=(')>? So how do I go about achieving sane results, while having a dynamic pattern?

  My UI is not updating when I expect it to. The application displays "projects" using a view similar to iTunes -- a source list on the left lets you filter a list (NSTableView) on the right. My filters update properly when they are examining any simple field (like name, a string), but not for arrays (like tags). I'm removing a tag from one of my objects (from an NSMutableArray field called "tags") and I expect it to disappear from the list because it no longer matches the predicate that is bound to my table's NSArrayController. • Using unmanaged code, how can I find a type that has a given custom attribute assigned to it?

  I had thought I could enumerate the types using IMetaDataImport.EnumTypeDefs and for each of the tokens returned, call IMetaDataImport.EnumCustomAttributes. This works, in so much as I get an array of mdCustomAttribute tokens. Using these tokens I can get a metadata token representing the Type of the returned custom attribute, by calling IMetaDataImport.GetCustomAttributeProps. Comparing my results against ILDASM, I can see that this matches the "CustomAttribute Type" that ILDASM reports. However, I cannot work out how to determine the "CustomAttributeName" that ILDASM reports. This is what I really want! While I would be interested in knowing how to get the CustomAttributeName, I would settle for an alternate approach to solving the problem.

• Is there a web site where I can paste a SQL Insert statement and have it break it out by column?

  I've been working on an application that has no discernable data access layer, so all the SQL statements are just built up as strings and executed. I'm constantly confronted by very long INSERT statements where I'm trying to figure out what value in the VALUES list matches up with what column in the column name list. I was about to create a little helper application where I could paste in an INSERT statement and have it show me a list of values matched up with the column names, just for debugging, and I thought, "someone else has probably done this already." Does anyone know of a web site where I can just paste in an INSERT statement and have it show me a two column table with column names in the first column and values in the second column?

  I'm having trouble finding a regular expression that matches the following String. Korben;http://feeds.feedburner.com/KorbensBlog-UpgradeYourMind?format=xml;1 One problem is escaping the question mark. Java's pattern matcher doesn't seem to accept \? as a valid escape sequence but it also fails to work with the tester at myregexp.com. Here's what I have so far: ([a-zA-Z0-9])+;http://([a-zA-Z0-9./-]+);[0-9]+ Any suggestions? Edit: The original intent was to match all URLs that could be found after the first semi colon.

• Can somone help fix up my simple regex query, please?

  Hi folks, yep - another noob regex query, which I can't seem to get. I'm trying to get all matches for the string foo.mydomain.com/ or foo.mydomain.com:1234/ or foo.mydomain.com:<random port>/ but any other paths do not match, ie. foo.mydomain.com/bar or foo.mydomain.com/bar/pewpew I tried to use: foo.mydomain.com(.*)/$ ( starts with anything, then foo.mydomain.com, then any thing after that .. until a slash. then end. (this search query is anchored to the end of the line). but that doesn't work. It doesn't match when i pass in foo.mydomain.com:1234 but it correct says foo.mydomain.com/bar/pewpew is not a match (as expected). any ideas?

  Hi, ASP.NET MVC web app that exposes "friendly" URLs: http://somesite.com/friendlyurl ...which are rewritten (not redirected) to ASP.NET MVC-style URLs under the hood: http://somesite.com/Controller/Action The user never actually sees any ASP.NET MVC style URLS. If he requests one, we hard 404 it. ASP.NET MVC is (in this app) an implementation detail, not a fundamental interface. My question: how do you examine an arbitrary incoming URL and determine whether or not that URL matches a defined ASP.NET MVC path? For extra credit: how do you do it from inside an ASP.NET-style IHttpModule, where you're getting invoked upstream from the ASP.NET MVC runtime? Thanks!

  I'm trying to deploy Rails 2.1.2 with Apache 2.2.10 and FastCGI (yeah, bad, ancient, ugly, I know). And I know it's no programming question, but please bear with me. My application can be accessed via example.com/app/public/, but I want to access it via example.com/app/. In my .htaccess-File (in the app/-directory!) I have: RewriteEngine On RewriteBase /app/ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ public/dispatch.fcgi [QSA,L] How can I forward each request going to app/ to app/public/? Every time I try this (like, with RewriteRule ^.*$ public/$1 [QSA]) I get a routing error: No route matches "/app/" with {:method=>:get} Help?

• Advanced search functionality

  I have a website with a jQuery based autocomplete search functionality which works great. Currently though I have just one search box for all categories, what I want is for someone to be able to type in, say for example, dorian gray dvd (in any order) which will search for dorian gray within the dvd category. What this will require then is a bit of magic on the server side to figure out if any of the words are category keywords, and then limit the search by that. What is the best (and quickest) way to do this in PHP / MySQL? I currently have a few trains of thought Search the category table for matches and perhaps order the results by that. Or split up the search terms into an array and separately search the categories for that for a match. Another thought I just had is to concat the category title to the dvd title in the database and match against that, or something similar... but this sounds computationally expensive? Any advice?
