  • How to manage state in REST

    I guess this question will sound familiar, but I am yet another programmer baffled by REST. I have a traditional web application which goes from StateA to StateB and so on If the user goes to (url of) StateB, I want to make sure that he has visited StateA before. Traditionally, I'd do this using session state. Since session state is not allowed in REST, how do I achieve this?

    According to MSDN, an azure service can conatins any number of worker roles. According to my knowledge a worker role can be recycled at any time by Windows Azure Fabric. If it is the true, then: Worker role should be state less OR Worker role should persist its state to Windows Azure storage services. But i want to make a service which conatains client data and do not want to use Azure storage service. How I can accomplish this?

  • Asp Dot Net : IHttpModule + m_context.Server.Transfer = session state error

    I have an IHttpModule that implements IRequiresSessionState. The session state is at "on" on the page directive and I also added it to the web.config. In the method "OnBeginRequest" in the IHttpModule, I make a Server.Transfer but I get the error : Session state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. When I access the page directly or with a Response.Redirect, there is no error. Any idea?

  • Java - is this an idiom or pattern, behavior classes with no state

    I am trying to incorporate more functional programming idioms into my java development. One pattern that I like the most and avoids side effects is building classes that have behavior but they don't necessarily have any state. The behavior is locked into the methods but they only act on the parameters passed in. The code below is code I am trying to avoid: public class BadObject { private Map<String, String> data = new HashMap<String, String>(); public BadObject() { data.put("data", "data"); } /** * Act on the data class. But this is bad because we can't * rely on the integrity of the object's state. */ public void execute() { data.get("data").toString(); } } The code below is nothing special but I am acting on the parameters and state is contained within that class. We still may run into issues with this class but that is an issue with the method and the state of the data, we can address issues in the routine as opposed to not trusting the entire object. Is this some form of idiom?   • What things must I know about OpenAL memory management?

    I am playing sound with OpenAL, and it seems to increase memory footprint dramatically for every little sound I play. It seems that OpenAL never frees memory itself and that playing a Source causes memory footprint to grow. I couldn't find any good resources about OpenAL memory management, but I bet I must do a lot of stuff myself. Maybe someone knows a ressource for that?

I'm doing a homework assignment in OS, and we did changes in sched.c (adding a new scheduling policy, which involved ading another prio_array to the queue and switching between them when needed). Processes using this policy cause the cpu to enter a shut down state when they finish. Any suggestions where to look?

In the Activity monitor, there is a "Recent Expensive Queries" but I'm guessing that isn't all of the queries since I'm not seeing the ones I have ran. I am running SQL Server 2008 v 10.0.1600.22.

  • JQuery not copying state dropdown list 1 to DDL2 on checkbox change

    I've looked at similar posts on the subject but none of the recommended solutions have worked for me so I'm not sure where I'm going wrong. I have a billing and shipping address form with a dropdown list for the state. Upon checking/unchecking the "billing address same as shipping" everything copies over except the state dropdown list. The state dropdown list is populated from a SQLDataSource state table.   • Unable to Connect to Management Studio Server

    I have a nasty situation. I am using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express edition locally on my pc for testing, and once tested I upload database changes to a remote server. I have a situation where I deleted the Default Database on my local machine, and instead of searching hard enough to find an answer to that problem, I uninstalled and reinstalled Management Studio. Since then Management Studio has not been able to connect to the server. Is there any help (or hope for me for that matter), out there?????     I am working on a testing project using mutating technique. My project requires to manipulate a Java classfile and re-execute the classfile multiple times for testing. My implementation need to re-execute the whole system again after one manipulation, and that is not efficient. I am wondering whether I can save the JVM state right before executing a desired instruction in the classfile, so that I can start from that state after each manipulation. Thank you.

  • Filesystems for webserver with SATA and Solid State disk,

    We have just ordered a new webserver with 120 Gb solid state disk and a SATA disk. I am trying to plan ahead what sort of filesystem to use. This system will be running Linux, Apache/Tomcat to host java services. The main service is a system where people can upload reasonably large files (in the order of 100 Mb, images, image stacks and video), which people will be able to annotate and which will be sent to a database server when annotation is complete. Thus far, I plan to put most of the utility programs of the operating system om the SSD and put the large media files there. The SATA disks will hold the less volitile data like apache, tomcat and the servlets. For filesystems I have considered going for the stable EXT3 because I hear that it is best supported. The downside seems to be that it not the ideal choice for large files. That is why I am leaning towards using XFS for the SSD and EXT3 for the SATA. My questions are: 1) Does this sound like a reasonable setup? 2) What filesystems would you recommend for the SSD and for the SATA? Thanks

  • Computer loses all installed programs and appears to return OS-only state

    This is a story regarding 3 laptops of different brand and models. On separate occassions, I configured each of these Windows 7 / Vista computers with the necessary configuration and applications (which are supposedly the same actually), e.g. join office domain, same windows updates, microft office etc. These machinese were configure in our office in Singapore, and then they were taken to India for use. Someday in India, when booting up the laptop, all went fine except when it reach the log in screen, it was no longer possible to login with domain credentials. Logging into the laptop local admin account will lead to discover that the machine has returned to "OS-only state". All the configurations and applications were gone. The actual user profiles are still in the C: drive so files can still be retrieved, but under Control Panel Uninstall Programs it is evident that at least the registry is corrupted. The above scenario happen to the first 2 laptops. For the third, the system reports "Operating System Not Found" on boot up. I cannot think of any reason except to suspect a power fluctuation issue. Question is, will a power issue create this behaviour? What else can cause this issue?

  • Mysql queries stuck in "sending data" state

    I'm running a Litespeed web server and a database server (2 x Clovertown 5335) with MySQL 5.1.52-log (running on Cent OS 4.5 and 4.6 32bit respectively). Last week, I upgraded from 5.0.51a-community-log and since then I've been having a problem whereby my database server's load starts increasing for no apparent reason. Running SHOW PROCESSLIST; I see all of my SQL_CACHE queries that use a wildcard in WHERE, backing up and getting stuck in "sending data" state. However, other queries that use SQL_CACHE but no wildcard do not get caught up in this. To get things going again, the first time it happens (after about 24 hours), I have to restart mysql. 4/5 times it will re-occur after about 20 minutes or so and this time and for subsequent occurrences it is not necessary to restart mysql. Simply stopping the web server for a few minutes will suffice while I allow the stuck queries to clear themselves up. I had no such problem with the the previous mysql install. What could be causing the issue and how do I resolve it? Thanks
