  • Using ModRewrite to get rid of extentions

    I would like to get rid of all the file extensions on my site. Except when they are on the index i would like it to say nothing... change this foo.com/index.html to this foo.com/ and when the user goes to another page like foo.com/contact-us.html it will be foo.com/contact-us RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^ this is where i get confused :( Thanks in advance!

  • Asp.Net 3.5 Routing to Asmx Webservice?

    I was looking for a way to route http://www.example.com/WebService.asmx to http://www.example.com/service/ using only the ASP.NET 3.5 Routing framework without needing to configure the IIS server. Until now I have done what most tutorials told me, added a reference to the routing assembly, configured stuff in the web.config, added this to the Global.asax: protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { RouteCollection routes = RouteTable.Routes; routes.Add( "WebService", new Route("service/{*Action}", new WebServiceRouteHandler()) ); } ...created this class: public class WebServiceRouteHandler : IRouteHandler { public IHttpHandler GetHttpHandler(RequestContext requestContext) { // What now? } } ...and the problem is right there, I don't know what to do. The tutorials and guides I've read use routing for pages, not webservices. Is this even possible? Ps: The route handler is working, I can visit /service/ and it throws the NotImplementedException I left in the GetHttpHandler method.

  • Wildcard mapping in IIS 7.0 not working

    I can't seem to get the ASP.NET engine to handle ALL wildcard mapping. When I try to make a request that is supposed to be handled by the asp.net engine, i get a 404 error from the StaticFile handler Here is the content of my web.config file.   • .htaccess - RewriteRules working, but browser address bar displaying full (unfriendly) URL

    Hey there, Haven't been able to find a solution to this around the net or these forums - apologise if I've missed something! My .htaccess RewriteRules are working well - have search-engine and user -friendly links in my web pages, and unfriendly database URLs running hidden in the background. Except when I added a RewriteRule to add "www." to the front of URLs if the user didn't enter it - to ensure only one appears in search engines. Here's what now happening, and I can't figure out why! My friendly URL structure for content is like this, and the database query string uses the first "importantword": www.example.com/importantword-nonimportantword/ .htaccess snippet: Options +FollowSymLinks Options -Indexes RewriteEngine on RewriteOptions MaxRedirects=10 RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^/$ index.php [L] RewriteRule ^(.*)-(.*)/overview/$ detail.php?categoryID=$1 [L] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.example.com$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [L] What's happening since I added the last 2 lines: CASE 1: user types (or clicks) www.example.com/honda-vehicle/overview/ - Works correctly - They are taken to the correct page and the browser URL bar says: www.example.com/honda-vehicles/overview/ CASE 2: user types example.com - Works correctly - They are taken to www.example.com and the browser URL bar says: www.example.com CASE 3: user types (or clicks) example.com/honda-vehicles/overview/ i.e. without the prefix "www" - Does NOT work correctly - They are taken to the right page, but the browser URL bar displays the unfriendly URL: www.example.com/detail.php?categoryID=honda I figure there's some issue with the order of the RewriteRules, but it's doing my head in trying to logically step through it and figure it out! Any assistance at all or pointers would be most appreciated!

  • Urlrewriting.net pages are not causing postbacks

    I'm using webforms with UrlRewriting.Net to rewrite pages, e.g. http://www.example.com/stuff.aspx?c=30 becomes http://www.example.com/stuff/30-this-stuff.aspx. It works in so far as the correct content is loading; however, none of the postbacks are working (mostly buttons on the page). If I set up a breakpoint on Page_Load, I see that IsPostBack is always false. Any ideas on how to fix this? Right now I'm just on Visual Studio 2008. EDIT: I have since switched to UrlRewriter.Net, which worked after a few tweaks (see Scott Gu's article). Besides here, I have posted my original problem to the developer's forum: if I ever get an answer, I'll post it here (unless else posts it here first).

    Hi there Im am trying to use the isapi rewrite tool on my web domain to write some basic rules, but am getting a bit confused. My base url is http://forevr-dev.co.uk/musicexplained/index.cfm and every page on the site follows from this base url. For example http://forevr-dev.co.uk/musicexplained/index.cfm/artist/blondie would be the artist page for blondie.. What I am looking for, is a rewrite rule, that would remove the index.cfm from the url, instead leaving http://forevr-dev.co.uk/musicexplained/artist/blondie. I have put the httpd.ini file in my musicexplained folder, under the root of my forevr-dev.co.uk domain, and I am using the following code below, which I used from the coldbox coldfusion framework application examples. RewriteEngine On RepeatLimit 0 RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.cfm/%{REQUEST_URI} [QSA,L] However, when I now go to the new pretty url, I am recieving an error message saying that the page cannot be found, alongside a 404 message.     Hello guys, after reading this article "Slash or not to slash" (link: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2010/04/to-slash-or-not-to-slash.html) on Google Webmaster Central Blog (the oficial one) I decided to test my ASP.NET MVC app. For example: http://domain.com/products and http://domain.com/products/ (with "/" in the end), return the code 200, which means: Google understands it as two different links and likely to be a "duplicated content". They suggest to choose the way you want... with or without dash and create a 301 permanent redirect to the preferred way. So if I choose without dash, when I try to access http://domain.com/products/ it will return a 301 to the link without dash: http://domain.com/products. My problem is I don't know what that means, if it means the debug output window in Visual Studio (where you see build output, debug output and more) I am not seeing any UrlRewriter debug output. The rules are working (mostly) I just want to get more debug output to fix issues. I added the register call to the rewriter section like this: <rewriter> <register logger="Intelligencia.UrlRewriter.Logging.DebugLogger, Intelligencia.UrlRewriter" /> .... </rewriter> I am hosting this website locally in IIS on Vista, to debug it I attach the debugger to the w3wp process. Other selected parts from the web.config" <compilation debug="true"> <assemblies> ... </assemblies> </compilation> <trace enabled="true"/> Where should I see the debug output from UrlRewriter.NET? If it is in the Visual Studio debug output window, any ideas why I am not seeing it there?

  • Gmail like URL scheme

    I am working on a ticket system, having the following requirement: The home page is divided into two sections: Sec-1. Some filter options are shown here.(like closed-tickets, open-tickets, all-tickets, tickets-assigned-to-me etc.). You can select one or more of these filters. sec-2. List of tickets satisfying above filters will be displayed here. Now this is what I want: As I change the filters -- the change should be reflected in the URL, so that one is able to bookmark it. -- an ajax request will go and list of tickets satisfying the selected filters will be updated in sec-2. I want the same code to be used to load the tickets in both ways- (a) by selecting that set of filters and (b) by using the bookmark to reload the page. I have little idea on how to do it: The URL will contain the selected filters.(appended after #) changing filters on the page will modify the hash part of URL and call a function (say ajaxHandler()) to parse the URL to get the filters and then make an ajax request to get the list of tickets to be displayed in section2. and I will call the same function ajaxHandler() in window.onload. I feel this is what Yahoo maps does. What's the best way to implement such URL scheme? Am I headed in the right direction?

    I want to process all incoming requests through a single script (index.php in web-root). So, the following is what currently happens: http://localhost/foo/bar/baz Is routed by Apache (through .htaccess) to: http://localhost/index.php?url=foo/bar/baz This works well, however, in Firefox I am able to do this: http://localhost/foo\ - notice the backslash. And Apache, instead of doing: /index.php?url=foo\ Emits a generic error page saying: Object not found! The requested URL was not found on this server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again. If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster. All the sites that I've seen on the internet seem to be able to handle backslashes gracefully (e.g., http://stackoverflow.com/tags/php\\\\\). I consider this behavior a bug and I want to force Apache to forward backslashes correctly.   • Default route is matched instead specific route

    www.domain.com community :action/* member/profile-(\d+)-(.+) member/profile-%d-%s 1 2 As you can see, I use a route with :action/* in to cover the homepages and the basics actions on index controller. domain.com/community/random_action = works good. domain.com/community/ doesn't work. The whole homepage is displayed. I checked, and the default route is matched. I tried assemble() on route "www-community-index" and it gives well www.domain.com/community I don't see from where comes the problem :(

  • Issue with IHttpHandler and relative URLs

    Hi, I've developed a IHttpHandler class and I've configured it as verb="*" path="*", so I'm handling all the request with it in an attempt of create my own REST implementation for a test web site that generates the html dynamically. So, when a request for a .css file arrives, I've to do something like context.Response.WriteFile(Server.MapPath(url)) ... same for pictures and so on, I have to response everything myself. My main issue, is when I put relative URLs in the anchors; for example, I have main page with a link like this <a href="page1">Go to Page 1</a> , and in Page 1 I have another link <a href="page2">Go to Page 2</a>. Page 1 and 2 are supposed to be at the same level (http://host/page1 and http://host/page2, but when I click in Go to Page 2, I got this url in the handler: ~/page1/~/page2 ... what is a pain, because I have to do an url = url.SubString(url.LastIndexOf('~')) for clean it, although I feel that there is nothing wrong and this behavior is totally normal. Right now, I can cope with it, but I think that in the future this is gonna bring me some headache. I've tried to set all the links with absolute URLs using the information of context.Request.Url, but it's also a pain :D, so I'd like to know if there is a nicer way to do these kind of things. Don't hesitate in giving me pretty obvious responses because I'm pretty new in web development and probably I'm skipping something basic about URLs, Http and so on.   • IIS7 Request Mapping, File Extensions

    I have a website that used to have .dsp file extensions for all pages. There are alot of other sites referencing mine that reference the pages like that, but my pages are all actually .aspx pages. In IIS5, I was able to configure this to work. My problem is I've recently switched from IIS5 to IIS7, and I have no idea how to map these requests (.dsp) to the real file (.aspx) without the server telling me the file doesn't exist.

  • Base Href vs. .htaccess RewriteBase

    Normally I use <base href="http://domain.com/" /><!--[if ie]></base><![endif]--> I haven't tried much with RewriteBase, I normally get confused and keep changing it till it works. Which method would be best, I obviously find the best solution because the links stay the same so that no links are broken most of the time when attaching a css file, e.g. http://domain.com/css/main.css It just always stay the same when accessing to sub-directories. Although, when I don't use the tag, and I access to a sub directory, it breaks the css links when I use <link href="css/main.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> As my PHP documents would include the header, <?php include("include/global_header.php"); ?> If I do that without the I would have to use: <link href="../css/main.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> Which can break when accessing to a sub-directory. So... does the RewriteBase work the same as the ? Your thoughts.
