  • How to add multiple cookies to Response in WCF / REST service

    - by Sumtraveller
    I have access to WebOperationContext and can add one cookie by doing this: WebOperationContext.Current.OutgoingResponse.Headers.Add("Set-Cookie: foo_a=bar_a"); However if I call that several times, e.g.: WebOperationContext.Current.OutgoingResponse.Headers.Add("Set-Cookie: foo_a=bar_a"); WebOperationContext.Current.OutgoingResponse.Headers.Add("Set-Cookie: foo_b=bar_b"); I should get the following in my header (2 cookies): Set-Cookie: foo_a=bar_a Set-Cookie: foo_b=bar_b But instead get: Set-Cookie: foo_a=bar_a, foo_b=bar_b How do I set multiple cookies? Thx

  • Stop lazy loading or skip loading a property in NHibernate? Proxy cannot be serialized through WCF

    - by HelloSam
    Consider I have a parent, child relationship class and mapping. I am using NHibernate to read the object from the database, and intended to use WCF to send the object across the wire. Goal For reading the parent object, I want to selectively, at different execution path, decide when I would want to load the child object. Because I don't want to read more than what I needed. Those partially loaded object must be able to sent through WCF. When I mean I don't load it, neither side will access such property. Problem When such partially loaded object is being sent through WCF, as those property is marked as [DataContract], it cannot be serialized as the property is lazy load proxy instead of real known type. What I want to archive, or solution that I can think of lazy=false or lazy=true doesn't work. Former will eagerly fetch all the relationships, latter will create a proxy. But I want nothing instead - a null would be the best. I don't need lazy load. I hope to get a null for those references that I don't want to fetch. A null, but not just a proxy. This will makes WCF happy, and waste less time to have a lazy-load proxy constructed. Like could I have a null proxy factory? -OR- Or making WCF ignoring those property that's a proxy instead of real. I tried the IDataContractSurrogate solution, but only parent is passed to GetObjectToSerialize, I never observe an proxy being passed through GetObjectToSerialize, leaving no chance to un-proxy it. Edit After reading the comments, more surfing on the Internet... It seems to me that DTO would shift major part of the computation to the server side. But for the project I am working on, 50% of time the client is "smarter" than the server and the server is more like a data store with validation and verification. Though I agree the server is not exactly dumb - I have to decide when to fetch the extra references already, and DTO will make this very explicit. Maybe I should just take the pain. I didn't know http://automapper.codeplex.com/ before, this motivates me a little more to take the pain. On the other hand, I found http://trentacular.com/2009/08/how-to-use-nhibernate-lazy-initializing-proxies-with-web-services-or-wcf/, which seems to be working with IDataContractSurrogate.GetObjectToSerialize.

  • WCF CreateMessage from custom body xml

    - by Cecil
    I have the following code: string body = "<custom xml>"; XDocument doc = XDocument.Parse(body); MemoryStream stream = new MemoryStream(); XmlWriter writer = XmlWriter.Create(stream); if (writer != null) { doc.Save(writer); writer.Flush(); writer.Close(); } stream.Position = 0; XmlReader rd = XmlReader.Create(stream); Message output = Message.CreateMessage(msg.Version, msg.Headers.Action, rd); output.Headers.CopyHeadersFrom(msg); output.Properties.CopyProperties(msg.Properties); When I try to use the message I get the following error: hexadecimal value 0x02, is an invalid character. Line 1, position 2. Any idea why? And what I can do to fix this?

  • WCF Reliable Session Timeout

    - by RemotecUk
    Hi, when do reliable sessions time out? My session class is defined as follows: [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.PerSession, ConcurrencyMode = ConcurrencyMode.Multiple)] and in my app.config... <bindings> <netTcpBinding> <binding name="FTS_netTcpBinding"> <reliableSession enabled="true" inactivityTimeout="00:00:30"/> </binding> </netTcpBinding> </bindings> I have put a timer in the constructor of my session class that simply outputs a count (1..2..3...) to the console for every second the session is active. I have tested it so far by faulting my channel. I would have imagined that the session class would have died after ~30 seconds (as specified in my inactivityTimeout parameter) and hence the timer would have died. However it was still going after a minute. Each session on my app will have significant resources so I need to make sure that they are cleaned up when something goes wrong. Thanks.

  • WCF Cant find server certificate using FindBYSubjectName

    - by AJM
    I have a certificate installed in my test environment. The subject of this is delimited by commas e.g. S80, My Company Name, Country The code below worked when the subject name was just S80 but now there are more details in the subject it no longer works. <serviceCredentials> <serviceCertificate findValue="S80, My Company Name, Country" storeLocation="LocalMachine" storeName="My" x509FindType="FindBySubjectName"/> </serviceCredentials> I get an error Cannot find the X.509 certificate using the following search criteria: StoreName 'My', StoreLocation 'LocalMachine', FindType 'FindBySubjectName', FindValue 'S80, My Company Name, Country'. If I just use S80 as the subject I get an error Keyset does not exist Any idea?

  • Preloading multiple comboboxes/listbox itemssource with enumerated values using WCF RIA Services

    - by Dale Halliwell
    I would like to be able to load several RIA entitysets in a single call without chaining/nesting several small LoadOperations together so that they load sequentially. I have several pages that have a number of comboboxes on them. These comboboxes are populated with static values from a database (for example status values). Right now I preload these values in my VM by one method that strings together a series of LoadOperations for each type that I want to load. For example: public void LoadEnums() { context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues1Query()).Completed += (s, e) => { this.StatusValues1 = context.StatusValues1; context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues2()).Completed += (s1, e1) => { this.StatusValues2 = context.StatusValues2; context.Load(context.GetMyStatusValues3Query()).Completed += (s2, e2) => { this.StatusValues3 = context.StatusValues3; (....and so on) }; }; }; }; While this works fine, it seems a bit nasty. Also, I would like to know when the last loadoperation completes so that I can load whatever entity I want to work on after this, so that these enumerated values resolve properly in form elements like comboboxes and listboxes. (I think) I can't do this easily above without creating a delegate and calling that on the completion of the last loadoperation. So my question is: does anyone out there know a better pattern to use, ideally where I can load all my static entitysets in a single LoadOperation?

  • Running msiexec from a service (Local System account)

    - by Jarrod
    We are working on an update system for our software. The updater should in the background as a service, and when an update is available, downloads and installs it. We need the service to install the update since the msi requires elevation to run, but some of our clients will be restricted users. The MSI is a WIX MSI and does a Major Upgrade when run. The problem is, the update does not seem to work when ran from our service. I can see msiexec run, and it returns successfully, but seems to make no changes to the system. The same command, when run from my user account works as expected. Is there some caveat to running msiexec from a Local System service? We are simply doing: System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("msiexec.exe", arguments);

  • IIS: No Session being handed out, but only in production

    - by Wayne
    I've reproduced this in a simple project - details below. It's a WCF service in ASP.NET compatibility mode. What I'm seeing is that when run on the dev machine (Win7), a HTTP session id is available inside the service operation (HttpContext.Current.Session is non-null). But when deployed to the server (Win2k8R2), I get "No session". On both machines the app is configured to use the classic app pool, and the app pools themselves are configured identically as far as I can tell. The only differences I can discern between the two applications is that on the dev box, under "Handler Mappings", ISAPI-dll is disabled (not on the server), and on the server there's a spurious handler called "AboMapperCustom-7105160" (does not exist on the dev box). What should I be looking at next? Am I missing something head-slappingly simple? Service is this: [AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode = AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Allowed)] public class Service2 { [OperationContract] public string DoWork() { if (HttpContext.Current != null) { if (HttpContext.Current.Session != null) { return "SessionId: " + HttpContext.Current.Session.SessionID; } else { return "No Session"; } } else { return "No Context"; } } } Config is: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <configuration> <configSections> <section name="log4net" type="log4net.Config.Log4NetConfigurationSectionHandler,log4net, Version=1.2.9.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b32731d11ce58905" /> <sectionGroup name="system.web.extensions" type="System.Web.Configuration.SystemWebExtensionsSectionGroup, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"> <sectionGroup name="scripting" type="System.Web.Configuration.ScriptingSectionGroup, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"> <section name="scriptResourceHandler" type="System.Web.Configuration.ScriptingScriptResourceHandlerSection, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" requirePermission="false" allowDefinition="MachineToApplication" /> <sectionGroup name="webServices" type="System.Web.Configuration.ScriptingWebServicesSectionGroup, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35"> <section name="jsonSerialization" type="System.Web.Configuration.ScriptingJsonSerializationSection, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" requirePermission="false" allowDefinition="Everywhere" /> <section name="profileService" type="System.Web.Configuration.ScriptingProfileServiceSection, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" requirePermission="false" allowDefinition="MachineToApplication" /> <section name="authenticationService" type="System.Web.Configuration.ScriptingAuthenticationServiceSection, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" requirePermission="false" allowDefinition="MachineToApplication" /> <section name="roleService" type="System.Web.Configuration.ScriptingRoleServiceSection, System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" requirePermission="false" allowDefinition="MachineToApplication" /> </sectionGroup> </sectionGroup> </sectionGroup> </configSections> <log4net> <appender name="LogFile" type="log4net.Appender.RollingFileAppender"> <file value="C:\Temp\Test.log4net.log" /> <rollingStyle value="Once" /> <maxSizeRollBackups value="10" /> <layout type="log4net.Layout.PatternLayout"> <conversionPattern value="%d{ISO8601} [%5t] %-5p %c{1} %m%n" /> </layout> </appender> <root> <level value="DEBUG" /> <appender-ref ref="LogFile" /> </root> </log4net> <appSettings /> <connectionStrings /> <system.web> <compilation debug="true"> <assemblies> <add assembly="System.Core, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089" /> <add assembly="System.Data.DataSetExtensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089" /> <add assembly="System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31BF3856AD364E35" /> <add assembly="System.Xml.Linq, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089" /> </assemblies> </compilation> <!-- The <authentication> section enables configuration of the security authentication mode used by ASP.NET to identify an incoming user. --> <authentication mode="Windows" /> <!-- The <customErrors> section enables configuration of what to do if/when an unhandled error occurs during the execution of a request.   • How do I use WS-Security with WCF?

    - by Jonathan Allen
    Below is the style of header I need to create. I am expected to use either a public/private key or a SSL style certificate. I don't know for certain, but I think my counter-party is using some form of Java. <soap-env:Header> <wsse:Security xmlns:wsse="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2002/04/secext"> <ds:Signature xmlns:ds="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#"> <ds:SignedInfo xmlns:ds="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#"> <ds:CanonicalizationMethod Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/2001/10/xml-exc-c14n#" /> <ds:SignatureMethod Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#rsa-sha1" /> <ds:Reference URI="#secinfo"> <ds:DigestMethod Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/2000/09/xmldsig#sha1" /> <ds:DigestValue>xxxxxxxxxxxxx</ds:DigestValue> <ds:Transforms> <ds:Transform Algorithm="http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/REC-xpath-19991116"> <ds:XPath>//*[@id='secinfo']/child::*/text()</ds:XPath> </ds:Transform> </ds:Transforms> </ds:Reference> </ds:SignedInfo> <ds:SignatureValue>xxxxxxxxxxds:SignatureValue> <ds:KeyInfo> <ds:KeyName>xxxxxxx</ds:KeyName> </ds:KeyInfo> </ds:Signature> <t:UsernameToken xmlns:t="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2002/04/secext" id="secinfo"> <t:UserInfo>USER=xxxx;CORR=xxxx;TIMESTAMP=201003161916</t:UserInfo> </t:UsernameToken> </wsse:Security> </soap-env:Header>

  • WCF MessageHeaders in OperationContext.Current

    - by Nate Bross
    If I use code like this [just below] to add Message Headers to my OperationContext, will all future out-going messages contain that data on any new ClientProxy defined from the same "run" of my application? The objective, is to pass a parameter or two to each OpeartionContract w/out messing with the signature of the OperationContract, since the parameters being passed will be consistant for all requests for a given run of my client application. public void DoSomeStuff() { var proxy = new MyServiceClient(); Guid myToken = Guid.NewGuid(); MessageHeader<Guid> mhg = new MessageHeader<Guid>(myToken); MessageHeader untyped = mhg.GetUntypedHeader("token", "ns"); OperationContext.Current.OutgoingMessageHeaders.Add(untyped); proxy.DoOperation(...); } public void DoSomeOTHERStuff() { var proxy = new MyServiceClient(); Guid myToken = Guid.NewGuid(); MessageHeader<Guid> mhg = new MessageHeader<Guid>(myToken); MessageHeader untyped = mhg.GetUntypedHeader("token", "ns"); OperationContext.Current.OutgoingMessageHeaders.Add(untyped); proxy.DoOtherOperation(...); } In other words, is it safe to refactor the above code like this? bool isSetup = false; public void SetupMessageHeader() { if(isSetup) { return; } Guid myToken = Guid.NewGuid(); MessageHeader<Guid> mhg = new MessageHeader<Guid>(myToken); MessageHeader untyped = mhg.GetUntypedHeader("token", "ns"); OperationContext.Current.OutgoingMessageHeaders.Add(untyped); isSetup = true; } public void DoSomeStuff() { var proxy = new MyServiceClient(); SetupMessageHeader(); proxy.DoOperation(...); } public void DoSomeOTHERStuff() { var proxy = new MyServiceClient(); SetupMessageHeader(); proxy.DoOtherOperation(...); } Since I don't really understand what's happening there, I don't want to cargo cult it and just change it and let it fly if it works, I'd like to hear your thoughts on if it is OK or not.

  • How to I get the value of a custom soap header in WCF

    - by Jason Coyne
    I have created a custom soap header, and added it into my message via IClientMessageInspector public object BeforeSendRequest(ref System.ServiceModel.Channels.Message request, System.ServiceModel.IClientChannel channel) { var header = new MessageHeader<AuthHeader>(); header.Content = new AuthHeader(Key); header.Actor = "Anyone"; var header2 = header.GetUntypedHeader("Auth", "xWow"); request.Headers.Add(header2); return null; } [DataContract(Name="Auth")] public class AuthHeader { public AuthHeader(string key) { this.Key = key; } [DataMember] public string Key { get; set; } } I also have an IDispatchMessageInspector, and I can find the correct header in the list. However, there is no value. I know that the value went across the wire correctly, because the message string is correct <s:Envelope xmlns:s=\"http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/\">\r\n <s:Header>\r\n <Auth s:actor=\"Anyone\" xmlns=\"xWow\" xmlns:i=\"http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance\">\r\n <Key xmlns=\"http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07/xWow.Lib\">HERE IS MY KEY VALUE!!!!</Key>\r\n </Auth>\r\n <To s:mustUnderstand=\"1\" xmlns=\"http://schemas.microsoft.com/ws/2005/05/addressing/none\">http://localhost:26443/AuthService.svc</To>\r\n <Action s:mustUnderstand=\"1\" xmlns=\"http://schemas.microsoft.com/ws/2005/05/addressing/none\">http://tempuri.org/IAuthService/GetPayload</Action>\r\n </s:Header>\r\n <s:Body>\r\n <GetPayload xmlns=\"http://tempuri.org/\" />\r\n </s:Body>\r\n</s:Envelope>" But there does not seem to be any property to retrieve this value. The MessageHeaderInfo class has Actor, etc, but nothing else useful I can find. On the client side I had to convert between Header and Untyped header, is there an equivalent operation on the server?

  • linking the EF 4.0 context to the WCF call context

    - by pablocastilla
    Hello, I would like to create an Entity Framework 4.0 context when a call is received and invoke to save changes when it finish, (something like JPA). I think it is a good idea because I can use the state for all the call, It is short and encapsulate enogh to be threadsafe and long enough for caching calls and the context itself. Any idea how is the best way for implement this?

  • WCF ReliableMessaging method called twice

    - by Brian
    Using Fiddler, we see 3 HTTP requests (and matching responses) for each call when: WS-ReliableMessaging is enabled, and, the method returns a large amount of data (17MB) The first HTTP request is a SOAP message with the action "CreateSequence" (presumable to establish the reliable session). The second and third HTTP requests are identical SOAP messages invoking our webservice method. Why are there two identical messages? Here is our config: <system.serviceModel> <client> <endpoint address="http://server/vdir/AccountingService.svc" binding="wsHttpBinding" bindingConfiguration="customWsHttpBinding" behaviorConfiguration="LargeServiceBehavior" contract="MyProject.Accounting.IAccountingService" name="BasicHttpBinding_IAccountingService" /> </client> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="customWsHttpBinding" maxReceivedMessageSize="90000000"> <reliableSession enabled="true"/> <security mode="None" /> </binding> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> <behaviors> <endpointBehaviors> <behavior name="LargeServiceBehavior"> <dataContractSerializer maxItemsInObjectGraph="2147483647"/> </behavior> </endpointBehaviors> </behaviors> </system.serviceModel> Thanks, Brian

  • WCF Service w/ SharePoint Error: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract...

    - by Brian Clark
    Full error message: Could not find default endpoint element that references contract 'PublicationServices.IPublicationService' in the ServiceModel client configuration section. This might be because no configuration file was found for your application, or because no endpoint element matching this contract could be found in the client element. I have a SharePoint site that I have already opened a project for in Visual Studio 2010. I also created a project that contains a WCF Service Application and added it to the same solution that contains the project for my SharePoint site. I have created a visual web part in my SharePoint project that I am trying to use to consume the WCF Service. I am doing so like this, from within the user control for my web part: PublicationServiceClient proxy = new PublicationServiceClient(); Just having this line alone in OnPreRender, Page_Load, etc. will generate the above error. I've read previous posts about having to have items in the config file of the WCF service also in the config file of the consuming application. I have done this, I copied this section the Web.config file in my WCF service and have placed it in the system.serviceModel tags of my SharePoint project's app.config file: In other words, this is in both of my config files. When I add this web part to the front page of my SharePoint site though, I get the above error every time. I should also note that I have created a console app that I was able to use with no problems to consume data from this very same WCF service. Any help would be appreciated!

  • Getting "Object is read only" error when setting ClientCredentials in WCF

    - by Paul Mrozowski
    I have a proxy object generated by Visual Studio (client side) named ServerClient. I am attempting to set ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName/Password before opening up a new connection using this code: InstanceContext context = new InstanceContext(this); m_client = new ServerClient(context); m_client.ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName = "Sample"; As soon as the code hits the UserName line it fails with an "Object is read-only" error. I know this can happen if the connection is already open or faulted, but at this point I haven't called context.Open() yet. I have configured the Bindings (which uses netTcpBinding) to use Message as it's security mode, and MessageClientCredentialType is set to UserName. Any ideas?

Your process does not have access rights to this namespace ServiceHost host = new ServiceHost(typeof(MyService)); host.Open(); I get the error on the host.Open(); line. I noticed that windows asks first for some firewall and to give permission which I did but still it is not working. What can I do?

  • MaxReceivedMessageSize adjusted, but still getting the QuotaExceedException with WCF

    - by djerry
    Hey guys, First of all, i have read the "millions" of post on this site and some blogs/forum post on other websites, and no answer is solving my problem. I'm my app, there's a possibility to import a txt or csv file with data. In the case of the error, the file contains 444 rows (file is 14,5 kB). When i try to send it to the server to process it, i get an QuotaExceedException, telling me to increase MaxReceivedMessageSize. So i changed it to a much higher value, but i'm still getting the same exception. I'm using the same exact items for client and server in system.servicemodel in my config file. Config snippet : <system.serviceModel> <bindings> <netTcpBinding> <binding name="NetTcpBinding_IMonitoringSystemService" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" transactionFlow="false" transferMode="Buffered" transactionProtocol="OleTransactions" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" listenBacklog="10" maxBufferPoolSize="2147483647" maxBufferSize="2147483647" maxConnections="500" maxReceivedMessageSize="2147483647"> <readerQuotas maxDepth="32" maxStringContentLength="100000" maxArrayLength="100000" maxBytesPerRead="100000" maxNameTableCharCount="100000" /> <reliableSession ordered="true" inactivityTimeout="00:10:00" enabled="false" /> <security mode="Message"> <transport clientCredentialType="Windows" protectionLevel="EncryptAndSign"> <extendedProtectionPolicy policyEnforcement="Never" /> </transport> <message clientCredentialType="Windows" /> </security> </binding> </netTcpBinding> </bindings> <client> <endpoint address="net.tcp://localhost:8000/Monitoring%20Server" binding="netTcpBinding" bindingConfiguration="NetTcpBinding_IMonitoringSystemService" contract="IMonitoringSystemService" > <!--name="NetTcpBinding_IMonitoringSystemService"--> <identity> <userPrincipalName value="DJERRYY\djerry" /> </identity> </endpoint> </client> </system.serviceModel> Can i use this sample for client and server config? And what should i not use in that case. Thanks in advance.

  • WCF digest Authentication

    - by dudia
    What should be specified on the client side? Is this enough: binding.Security.Transport.ClientCredentialType = HttpClientCredentialType.Digest; ... cf.Credentials.HttpDigest.ClientCredential = new NetworkCredential("myuser", "mypass", "mydomain"); cf.Credentials.HttpDigest.AllowedImpersonationLevel = TokenImpersonationLevel.Impersonation; What should be specified on the server side? obviously one needs: binding.Security.Transport.ClientCredentialType = HttpClientCredentialType.Digest; but where do one specify in the server the digest username\password to validate the client against? In addition when Micosoft says that Digest Authentication uses the Domain Controller, what does it mean? Does it validate username\password against it?

  • The IOC "child" container / Service Locator

    - by Mystagogue
    DISCLAIMER: I know there is debate between DI and service locator patterns. I have a question that is intended to avoid the debate. This question is for the service locator fans, who happen to think like Fowler "DI...is hard to understand...on the whole I prefer to avoid it unless I need it." For the purposes of my question, I must avoid DI (reasons intentionally not given), so I'm not trying to spark a debate unrelated to my question. QUESTION: The only issue I might see with keeping my IOC container in a singleton (remember my disclaimer above), is with the use of child containers. Presumably the child containers would not themselves be singletons. At first I thought that poses a real problem. But as I thought about it, I began to think that is precisely the behavior I want (the child containers are not singletons, and can be Disposed() at will). Then my thoughts went further into a philosophical realm. Because I'm a service locator fan, I'm wondering just how necessary the notion of a child container is in the first place. In a small set of cases where I've seen the usefulness, it has either been to satisfy DI (which I'm mostly avoiding anyway), or the issue was solvable without recourse to the IOC container. My thoughts were partly inspired by the IServiceLocator interface which doesn't even bother to list a "GetChildContainer" method. So my question is just that: if you are a service locator fan, have you found that child containers are usually moot? Otherwise, when have they been essential? extra credit: If there are other philosophical issues with service locator in a singleton (aside from those posed by DI advocates), what are they?
