Hi
I am using System.IO.Directory.GetCurrentDirectory() to get the current directory in my web service, but that does not give me the current directory. How do I get the current directory in a web service?
Thanks

I have a web project consisting of only web services. I need a global way of handling errors on the server so I can send emails, log in event log, etc. Global.asax doesn't work according to MSDN. How should I go about this? I have tried creating a soapExtension, but it is never hit.
I would like to know about JavaScipt. Is Javascipt is available only for web browsers? Because I used some JavaScript code for Firefox Plugin development and Thunderbird.
Help me to find out more about this: where can I use JavaScript other than web browsers, and how?

What should a complete emacs setup have if you want to use it for web development?
This SO question is about using emacs for Rails, however it mostly leaves out things like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
This emacs wiki page has suggestions for emulating aspects of TextMate, but isn't specific to web development.
Hi folk,
I've been storing SQL connection strings in web.conf which is fine but now I need to store SMTP credentials somewhere protected. web.conf seems like the likeliest place since its protected but how can they be stored?

I am looking to get into web application development. I am an undergrad CS major with experience in programming desktop apps, but with only basic knowledge regarding how web apps work. Any suggestions of where to start? Javascript, php, perl, ruby, python? Should I look into frameworks like django, seaside, ruby on rails, etc at first or wait until I am more experienced to use those?

My friend said, "Pylons is so much better for web services."
My other friend said, "You can modify Django in a way to do exactly whatever you like."
In Django, what is necessary to be modified (urls.py? models classes? settings?) in order to do "web services" with APIs and REST and versioning, etc etc.?
I wondered if I should write my code clean and readable or rather small and unreadable... Or should I write it readable and then compress it afterwards when I'm publishing it on the web?
Ps. I'm building a web app,
the faster, the better!
Thanks_
Before going into production, our client demands actual numbers of how many users our web application can handle.
We have all kinds of features implemented including asset management (file uploads/downloads), documents import/export, various statistics, web-services etc.
Which tool (or set of tools) could do this?
Application details:
XHTML/jQuery
Coldfusion 8
SQL Server 2008
Windows Server 2008
We have developed a web application which is to be deployed by nontechnical person. Therefor I want to create an installer for it. Installer has functions of installing JVM, Apache Tomcat, and the web application war file depending on whether they are installed or not. Is there any installation suit which I can use to achieve this?

Do you know how to make it more stable, maybe properties to set, memory to allocate?
It always hangs up when redeploying web apps, thru manager (wars), web interface or maven plugin.
every second time it gives PermGenSpace, no memory errors etc.
on my local machine 3gb ram.
It looks like it should be manually set up to work in a stable way.
How to fix such a problem?
Can anyone recommend a language, library, framework or book which focuses on GUI programming from the perspective of a web developer?
I have experience in web development, for example HTML/AJAX/PHP/MySQL among similar technologies. However, I have never programmed my own back-end, or any kind of standalone program. Does anyone have experience making this transition, and what would I best study to help make the leap from the browser to creating programs with GUIs (primarily for Windows)?
What happen if web.config gets updated while ASP (ASP.NET 2.0) server still process client request?
- Will the process be killed?
- If not, will the process read the updates in web.config.
thanks for any input
Hi,
I need a profiler that is able to measure performance of web service execition.
Our application has several layers and ideally I would like to be able to dive into each web service request and see how much time was spent in each layer (server, sql server, etc...)
Is there a tool that can help detect where are the bottlenecks ?
Is that something that can be done using VS Team System Test Edition ?
There are obviously a lot of different choices out there if you want to program for the web using Java. Does anybody have recommendations for someone who wants a free software framework for web programming? I want to work on Linux, and I would prefer to avoid .net/mono.
