• How to Disable the New Geolocation Feature in Google Chrome

  The latest release of Google Chrome has geolocation enabled by default, and if you are worried about privacy or just don’t want websites to prompt you for your location, we’ve got the quick details on how to turn it off. Readers should note that the new Geolocation feature doesn’t give out your details by default, so don’t panic. It’s also only active, at the time of this writing, in the Dev channel builds of Chrome—so if you are using the regular stable build this feature won’t arrive for a while anyway. Note: If you’re a Firefox user, be sure to check out our guide to disabling geolocation in Firefox 3.x. What’s this Geolocation Feature About? Geolocation is a way for your browser to tell a website about your physical location, so you can get results tailored to where you actually are—for example, if you visited Google Maps it can ask you for your location to give you an accurate picture of where you are. To use this feature in Google Maps, you would click on the small white icon to activate the feature. As soon as you have clicked on the small white icon, a thin green toolbar will appear at the top of the webpage, asking to Allow or Deny.   How to Turn Chrome’s Geolocation Off If you want to turn geolocation off you will need to open the “Chrome Options Window”, navigate to the third tab, and click on the “Content settings… ” button. When the “Content Settings Window” opens go to the “Location Tab” and select “Do not allow any site to track my physical location”. Once that is done close out the “Content Settings & Chrome Options Windows”. When you go back to Google Maps and try using the small white icon again this is the message that you will see at the top of the page. Now that is much better! If you are unhappy with geolocation being enabled by default in the latest Dev Channel release then this will help get the problem sorted out nicely. • VNIC - New feature of AK8 - Working with VNICs

  One of the important new features of the AK8 code is the ability to use multiple IP addresses on the same physical network port. This feature is called VNICs, or Virtual NICs. This allows us to no longer "burn" a whole port in a cluster when one cluster peer owns a network port. Traditionally, we have had to leave Net0 empty on controller 2, because it was used for managing controller 1. Vise-versa for Net1 on Controller 1. Then, if you have data going over 10GigE ports, you probably only had half of your ports running at any given time, and the partner 10GigE port on the other controller just sat there, doing nothing, unless the first controller went down. What a waste. Those days are over.  I want to thank and give a big shout-out to our good partner, OnX Enterprise Solutions, for allowing me to come into their lab and play around with their 7320 to do this demo. They let me make a big mess of their lab for the day as I played around with VNICs. Here's what the same screen looks like after you upgrade. See the new box? So here is my current network setup. I have my 4 physical interfaces setup each with an IP address. If I ping them, no problems.  So I can ping 180, 181, 251, and 252. However, if I try to ping 240, it does not work, as the 240 address is not being used by any of these interfaces, right?Let's change that. Here, I'm going to make a new Datalink by clicking the Datalink "Plus sign" button. I will check the VNIC box and tell it to use igb2, even though another interface is already using it. Now, I will create a new Interface, and choose "v_dl2" for it's datalink. My new network screen looks like this. A few things to take note of here. First, when I click the "igb2" device, it only highlights dl2 and int2. It does not highlight v_dl2 or v_int2.I think it should, but OK, it looks like VNICs don't highlight when you click the device. Second, note how the underscore character in v_dl2 and v_int2 do not seem to show on this screen. You can see it plainly if you go in and edit them, but from here it looks like a space instead of an underscore. Just a cosmetic bug, but something to be aware of. Now, if I click the VNIC datalink "v_dl2", on the other hand, it DOES highlight the device it belongs to, as it should. Seen here: Note that it did not, however, highlight int2 with it, even though int2 is connected to igb2. That's because we clicked v_dl2, which int2 has nothing to do with. So I'm OK with that. So let's try pinging 240 now. Of course, it works great.  So I now make another VNIC, and call it v_dl3 using igb3, and v_int3 with an address of 241. I then setup three shares, using ports 251, 240, and 241.Remember that IP 251 and 240 both are using the same physical port of igb2, and IP 241 is using port igb3. Next, I copy a folder full of stuff over to all three shares at the same time. I have analytics going so I can see the traffic. My top chart is showing the logical interfaces, and the bottom chart is showing the physical ports.Sure enough, look at the igb2 and vnic1 interfaces. They equal the traffic going over the igb2 physical port on the second chart. VNIC2, on the other hand, gets igb3 all to itself. This would work the same way with 10Gig or Infiniband ports. You can now have multiple IP addresses and even completely different subnets sharing the same physical ports. You may need to make route table entries for that. This allows us to use all of the ports you paid for with no more waste.  Very, very cool.  One small "bug" I found when doing this. It's really not a bug, it was designed to do this when VNICs were not around. But now that we have NVIC capability, they should probably change this. I've alerted the engineering team about this and they're looking into it, so perhaps it will be fixed in a later code. Here it is. Remember when we made the new VNIC datalink, I specifically said to click on the "Plus Sign" button to create it? I don't always do that. I really like to use the drag-and-drop method to create my datalinks in the network screen.HOWEVER, if you were to do that for building a VNIC, it will mess you up a little. Watch this. Here, I'm dragging igb3 over to make a new datalink. igb3 is already being used by dl3, but I'm going to make this a VNIC, so who cares, right? Well, the ZFSSA does not KNOW you are going to make it a VNIC, now does it? So... it works as designed and REMOVES the igb3 device from the current dl3 datalink in the background. See how it's now missing? At the same time, the dl3 datalink choice is missing from my list of possible VNICs for me to choose from!!!! Hey!!! I wanted to pick dl3. Why isn't it on the list??? Well, it can't be on this list because dl3 no longer has a device associated with it. Bummer for you. When you click cancel, the device is still missing from dl3. The fix is easy. Just edit dl3 by clicking the pencil button, do absolutely nothing, and click "Apply". The device will magically come back. Now, make the VNIC datalink by clicking the "Plus Sign" button. Sure enough, once you check the VNIC box, dl3 is a valid choice. No problem.  That's it for now. Have fun with VNICs.

When error occurs ls start listing the files, however PHP brakes. • rsync not copying hard links

  I have two computers (both MacBook Airs) for which I sync one directory tree in both, but not the entire hard drive or any other directories. Let's say on computer A the directory is /Users/aellett/projects Let's say on computer B the directory is /Users/bellett/projects Generally, I'll log into computer B and then remotely connect to computer A as user 'aellett'. As super user I sync the two project directories as follows: rsync -av /Volumes/aellett/projects/ /Users/bellett/projects/ and this works as expected. On both computers I have another file letter.txt in a different directory which is not getting synced. Let's say on computer A the file is found in /Users/aellett/letters On computer B the file is found in /Users/bellett/correspondence Generally, I don't want to share what's not included in /Users/<username>/projects. But I do want to share this particular file. So on both computer I made a correspondence directory in projects. And then I made hard links as follows On computer A: ln /Users/aellett/letters/letter.txt /Users/aellett/projects/correspondence/letter.txt On computer B: ln /Users/bellett/correspondence/letter.txt /Users/aellett/projects/correspondence/letter.txt The next time I synced the two computers I did the following rsync -av -H /Volumes/aellett/projects/ /Users/bellett/projects/ When I checked on computer B, /Users/bellett/projects/correspondence/letter.txt was correctly synced. But, the hardlink to /Users/bellett/correspondence/letter.txt was no longer there. In other words, /Users/bellett/projects/correspondence/letter.txt was identical to /Users/aellett/projects/correspondence/letter.txt but it differed from /Users/bellett/correspondence/letter.txt. Since these two files were hard linked on both computers, I expected them to still have the hard link. Why are my hard links not being preserved?

• Rewriting html links with modproxyperlhtml

  I'm trying to setup an Apache reverse proxy using mod_proxy and modproxyperlhtml. This is my scenario: Domain for the proxy: http : // www.myserver.com/ Destination server (the one behind the proxy): http : // myserver.foo.com/myapp/ I'm sorry that I have to space the URL but serverfault doesn't allow me to post more than two links as "spam protection mechanism" (ridiculous on a site where you ask questions about servers and it's really probable to post more than two times the same URL's to explain your question). The idea is to map http : // www.myserver.com/ to http : // myserver.foo.com/myapp/ . Note that the path on the proxy is / and on the destination server is /myapp/. All of the examples I can find on the net (like the one on the official documentation of modproxyperlhtml) are the other way around, ie. path on the proxy /myapp/ and path on the destination server /. This is my current config that doesn't work: ProxyPass / http : // myserver.foo.com/myapp/ ProxyPassReverse / http : // myserver.foo.com/myapp/ PerlInputFilterHandler Apache2::ModProxyPerlHtml PerlOutputFilterHandler Apache2::ModProxyPerlHtml SetHandler perl-script PerlSetVar ProxyHTMLVerbose "On" LogLevel Info <Location / > # ProxyPassReverse /myapp/ PerlAddVar ProxyHTMLURLMap "/myapp/ /" PerlAddVar ProxyHTMLURLMap "http : // myserver.foo.com /" </Location> The examples use the ProxyPassReverse inside the Location directive, but on my case doesn't work, only when outside. • Symbolic Links Between User Accounts

  I have been using a cron job to duplicate a folder into another users account every day and someone suggested using symbolic links instead although I cannot get them to work. In summary user GAMER generates log files that they want to access via HTTP, however I only have a web-server in the user account SERVER, in the past I would copy the logs folder from GAMERS account into SERVER/public_html/. and then chmod the files so the server could access them. Trying to use symbolic links I set up a link from root (as only root can access both accounts) I used: ln -s /home/GAMER/game/logs/ /home/SERVER/public_html/logs However it seems that only root can use this link, I tried chmoding the link, all the files in the gamers /game/logs/*, /game/logs itself to 777 as well as changing chown and chgrp to server the files still cannot be read. When viewed from servers account my shell shows the link and where it is to hi-lighted in black with red text. Am I doing something wrong? • daily rsync backups with hard links, checksums, and a new computer

  I backup my laptop to a Fedora desktop daily using rsync with hard links. This has worked great for almost a year. I recently purchased a new computer, transferred over my data, and would like to continue backing up this computer daily. However, due to the data transfer from the old laptop to the new laptop, the timestamps have obviously changed, and will thus cause my daily rsync backup to re-transfer all of the data. I thought that by adding the -c (checksum) switch to my rsync backup it would match files based on checksum, instead of timestamp and size, and only transfer those files that are different or not present. This appeared to work, but upon examining the new backup, hard links are not being created, and it appears the files that should be hard linked are simply being copied to the new backup directory from the previous backup directory on the backup server. This is very peculiar behavior to me, and I am having trouble figuring out why this is occurring. Checksums match for files that I think should be hard linked. I have looked through the rsync man page and Google'd around a bit and have been unable to find anything for me to better understand this behavior.

  I am using Microsoft WPF datagrid. I have noticed a strange behavior with WPF datagrid DataGridTemplateColumn. When you use the templateColumn in the grid and the template column contains some controls when you tab from the previous column the focus is not automatically given to the first element declared in the template column. The foucs is initally set on the border of the template column and when we tab of once agin the focus goes to the first column. Any workaround for this issue. How can i set the focus to go the first element in the template column of the datagrid when i tab off.

  My application needs to update tab indicator dynamically, I'm trying to do this by invoke TabSpec.setIndicator(), but it doesn't work. Here is my code: In onCreate method of TabActivity: tabHost = getTabHost(); TabSpec tabSpec = tabHost.newTabSpec("abc"); tabSpec.setIndicator("helloabc"); tabSpec.setContent(new MyViewFactory()); tabHost.addTab(tabSpec); Now I need to change tab indicator to another string, for example, "xyz" TabSpec tabSpec = MyTabActivity.getTabSpec(); tabSpec.setIndicator("xyz"); But it doesn't work. • iphone tab bar controller and core data.

  Ok bit of a newbie type question. I want to use Core Data, together with Tab and Navigation controllers. In XCode if I create a Navigation Based Application I get the option to choose Core Data. Whereas If I create a Tab Bar Application I don't get the choice. I understand that Tab Bars display view controllers so it kinda makes sense. However given that by default it sticks the basic Core Data code in the Application delegate I don't see why this isn't offered. At the moment I'm creating the two projects and cutting and pasting between them. Does this omission in XCode seem weird to you? Is it some sort of oversight? Thanks, Matt

• Modal View Controller Undesirably Hides Tab Bar

  I am working on an application that requires user authentication to access a profile. The profile section is located solely under one tab (and all others tabs do not require authentication). I currently present a authentication view controller modally (and then dismiss on success) when the user selects the profile tab. However, this approach prevents the user from deciding not to register / login (that is, all tabs are hidden once the authentication screen is presented modally). I don't want the user to be able to dismiss the modal view controller, but rather have it modal only for the profile tab. Is this possible? Can I have tabs visible while having a modal view controller? What is the best approach here. Thanks.

• Value of text box disapears - binding viewmodel to a tab (content control)

  Based on the MVVM example by Josh Smith, I have implemented the multi tab option which binds to a different tab to a different view model using a simple datatemplate that binds a viewmodel to a view. <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type fixtureVM:SearchViewModel}"> <SearchVw:SearchView/> </DataTemplate> The issue that I'm having, is when I switch tabs and then switch back again, the value in the textbox disappears. When I bind the Text in the textbox to a value in the ViewModel it does not disappear. This is fine, and I can overcome this but I am having another issue for example with the position of the scroll bar in a grid disappearing once the tab has lost focus. Why is the value disappearing? I'm assuming it is a WPF sub system task that cleans up resources!? how can I avoid this? I also feel it might be slowing down my app.

In an iPad app, I have five regular view controllers (not navigation controllers or anything like that) inside a tab bar controller. The tab bar controller is just a plain UITabBarController declared in the app delegate. All the view controllers return YES in the shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation method. On both the simulator and device, on rotation, the tab bar and the current view controller rotate but the currently selected view controller (call it A) does not resize properly. It keeps its portrait width and height (but it is rotated). If I switch to another view controller B and then back to A (without rotating the device again), A appears correctly resized. This happens with any of the five view controllers Why doesn't the currently selected view controller resize immediately on rotation and how do I fix it? Thanks.

• AVDs that exist do not get listed in the "Target Tab"

  I am using emulator Android 2.1 with Eclipse. For few days I had the emulator working ... was able to debug... I had 2 AVDs created and was using one of them. Earlier today I had to move my classes to a different package. Ever since I did that the configuration that I had has disappeared . So now I had to create configuration - I select Android Application and then click New - gave it a name TestPrjCfg - when I go to the "Target" tab - I see "No AVD available" but when I click manager I see two AVDs listed. I tired refresh in the "Target" tab - the existing AVDs do not show up. I used the Manager and created a third AVD that did not help either. Please let me know what am I missing here? What should I do so that the existing AVDs showup in the "Target" tab- Thank you for the time and effort abhi

• Stopping Windows Mobile 6.5 tab reordering

  I have a C++ Visual Studio 2008 Windows Mobile 6.5 application that uses a tab control. I've noticed that depending on how careful you are with the stylus, when using the tab control you can accidentally re-order the tabs. It's difficult to do deliberately, but it's very easy to do when you're not trying. I assume this is a new "feature" of Windows Mobile 6.5 as it doesn't happen in Windows Mobile 6.1 with the same code. Is there a window style or something I can set that will lock the tab order such that people don't accidentally re-arrange them? Also, is there an MSDN page that describes this behavior and how it is supposed to work? I've looked, but have come up empty. Thanks, PaulH

• Loading contents of TableView Controller after showing Tab

  Hello, I have a 4 tabbar application. The second tab has a tableviewController. When i select the second tab the tableview is displayed with it's contents and it works fine. The problem is that that data is comming from the network and it talks 2-3 seconds to load. So when i press the second tab it goes there after the contents have been loaded. How can i show an empty tableview (i'll put an activity indicator) and then load and show the contents? Teo

  Hello! I have recently started having a strange problem with visual studio 2008 sp1: in the properties of my web projects I can't see the Web tab - I get the following error: Unable to create the designer. File is already opened in an incompatible editor. Or in the case of ASP.NET MVC: An error occurred trying to load the page. 909d16b3-c8e8-43d1-a2b8-26ea0d4b6b57 I can see the "web" tab if it's not selected immediately but once i click on it, the header of the tab goes blank and tha main pane just shows the error. I have unistalled both VS2008 and MVC, reistalled - same thing. Tried devenv /resetsettings also... I would really appreciate any help, I'm stuck! Nothing on google either:(

• TabPage Validating event firing when clicked on the currently selected tab

  I'm doing things as said in How do I prevent the user from changing the selected tab page in a TabControl? Things are working fine. But the validating event of tabpage1 occurs if I've tabpage1 is currently selected and user clicks on tabpage1 itself. and later when user clicks on tabpage2 validating event for tabpage1 doesn't fire. What happens is if I do e.Cancel in validating event of tabpage1, in the above case, when user clicks on tabpage1 by mistake having tabpage1 already selected, it will prompt user that "Do you want to stay on current tab to save data or move from the current tab?". and if user clicks Stay but doesn't do any changes. And then when he correctly clicks tabpage2, Validating event of tabpage1 is not firing. I've uploaded the sample application here. You can run and see the behavior to properly understand the problem

• Tabbed browsing, programaticaly navigating to another open tab

  Hello, I'm in a discussion with my co-worker. We have a web application in a tabbed browsing environment, say with 2 tabs open. Tab2 has a link to tab1, when I click the link, it opens tab1 in a new tab. We want to detect if tab 1 is already open, if so then set focus to tab1 (and not open a new window). He has gotten this working in a broswer window environment, but says it is not possible in a tabbed environment. Is it possible to for javascript to determine if tab1 is already open and then just set focus to that tab? Thanks in advance!

  I Do not know any JQuery and have to create a Tab with JQuery or JavaScript which works well with Multiview. And note that I have this kinds of tabs in more than 40 pages so I'm looking for a solution which works for all of them. This is my current Scenario I have a Multiview and some Buttons above Multiview. Each Multiview contains a module (.ascx control) whenever User clicks on a button MultiView ActiveIndex Change to specific index. Each Module (tab content) has some Ajax functionality and I want to change tab items with JQuery in order to prevent post backing page. Please give complete code, cause I don't know any Jquery. • JqueryUI Tab Linking from Another Page

  I'm having some issues with jqueryui tabs and linking to certain tabs on another page. Basically, each page has tabs, and all are navigational via drop down at the top, with each 'tab' being available in the drop down. Currently I'm able to text-link, but only within the page I'm on, and I'm just lost on the getting it to work correctly from page to page. • Using css "active tab" technique on single page

  I'm building a navigation system using jquery scrollto. I have my navigation menu in a separate file (( navigation.php )). It is included in 5 locations on the first page (( 5 different sections w/ text following each )). I'm trying to figure out a way to have the current "tab" highlight'd. I could hard code the navigation in each location to ensure it shows up the correct way, but I'd rather use the phpinclude() method. The other issue is that each "tab" has it's own unique color (( cmykd )). Here is the alpha version of what I'm doing (( when you click && the page slides, the "active tab" still stays grey -- I'd like it to be the corresponding color )). Hope this all makes sense && thanks in advance !!

• Switch back to previously selected tab after the activity is recreated

  In my TabActivity the user may be asked to switch to browser activity for OAuth phase, and if the phase takes too much time, my activity will be killed. After the user switches back to my activity, its onCreate() method is invoked again and tabs are recreated. So I would like to know if there is any simple way to switch back to previous tab, and keep the tab as what it was. For example, one of the tab views contains a ViewSwitcher child, and I want to switch back to the switched view after recreating the activity.
