• Duplicate monitor on highest resolution in Windows 7

  I have a monitor with a native resolution of 2560x1440, connected through display port. I also have an AV Receiver connected to the video card via HDMI, to have surround sound in games. All using Radeon HD 5670 (will upgrade soon to HD 7850). The problem is that my computer detects the receiver as a separate monitor, with the highest available resolution of 1920x1080. I have 3 options: Disconnect the second display. But then the sound (digital audio output through video card) also disappears. Duplicate displays. But then my primary monitor resolution is reduced to a maximum of just 1920x1080, that being the maximum of the second monitor. Extend desktop. This is the solution I picked so far, it being the least evil. The problems I face in this situations are 2: I have a blank part of the desktop where I sometimes lose my mouse pointer, so I made the extension small, 640x480, and placed it in a corner; when I turn off the main display, all windows resize to 640x480. In Kubuntu I had the option to duplicate the displays, while keeping the higher resolution. Which was great. I tried overriding using the Win7 netbook hack, but it's not available on non-netbooks. Is there a similar solution for this problem in Windows 7?

• TCP RST right after FIN/ACK

  I am having the weirdest issue: I have a web server which sometimes, only on very specific requests, will send a RST to the client after having sent the FIN datagram. First, a description of the setup: The server runs on an Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS, which itself is a VM guest inside a Win7 x64 host, in bridged mode. ufw is disabled on the host The client runs on a iOS simulator, which runs on OS X Mountain Lion, which is a VM guest (hackintosh) inside a Win7 x64 host, in bridged mode. Both client and server are on the same LAN, one is connected to the home router via an Ethernet cable, and then other thru WiFi. I happened to glimpse over the server's http logs and found that the client sometimes issuing multiple subsequent identical requests. Further investigation led me to discover that this happens when the server sends a RST, and that the client is simply re-trying. I am attaching several tcpdump's: Good1 is the server-side tcpdump of a good session ("good" meaning no RST was generated). Good3 is another sever-side tcpdump of a good session. (The difference between Good1 and Good3 is the order in which ACK's were sent from the server to the client, ACK'ing the client's request. The client's request arives in 2 segements (specifically: one for the http headers, and another for a body containing an empty json object, "{}"). In Good1, the server ACK's both request segments, using 2 ACK segments, after the second request has arrived. In Good3, the server ACK's each request segment with an ACK segment as soon as the request segment arrives. Not that it should make a difference.) Bad1 is a dump, both client- and server-side, of a bad session. Bad2 is another bad session, this time server-side only. Note that in all "bad" sessions, the server ACK's each request segments immediately after having received it. I've looked at a few other bad sessions, and the situation is the same in all of them. But this is also the behavior in "Good3", so I don't see how that observation helps me, of for that matter why it should matter. I can't find any difference between good and bad sessions, or at least one that I think should matter. My question is: why are those RST's being generated? Or at least: how do I go about debugging this, or providing more info here that'll help? Edit 2 new facts that I have learned: Section 4.2.2.13 of the RFC (1122) (and Wikipedia, in the article "TCP", under "Connection Termination") says that a TCP application on one host may close the connection before it has read all of the data in its socket buffer, and in such a case the TCP on the host will sent a RST to the other side, to let it know that not all the data it has sent has been read. I'm not sure I completely understand this, since closing my side of the connection still allows me to read, no? It also means that I can't write any more. I am not sure this is relevant, though, since I see a RST after FIN. There are multiple complaints of this happening with wsgiref (Python's dev-mode HTTP server), which is exactly what I'm using. I'll keep updating as I find out more.   +  = Simple and safe Data connections.   This guide is for someone wanting to use the latest ODP.NET quickly without reading the official documentation. This guide will get you up and running in about 15 minutes. I have reviewed my referral link to my simple Setting up ODP.net with Win7 x64 and noticed most people were searching for one of the following terms: “how to use odp.net with vs” “setup connection odp.net” “query db using odp and vs” While my article provided links and a sample tnsnames.ora file, it really didn’t tell you how to use it. I’m hoping that this brief tutorial will help. So before we get started, you will need the following: Download the following: www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/dotnet/utilsoft.html from oracle and install it. It is the first one on the page. Visual Studio 2008 or 2010. It should be noted that The System.Data.OracleClient namespace is the OLD .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle. It should not be used anymore as it has been depreciated. The latest version which is what we are using is Oracle.DataAccess.Client. First things first, Add a reference to the Oracle.DataAccess.Client after you install ODP.NET   Copy and paste the following C# code into your project and replace the relevant info including the query string and you should be able to return data.   I have some serious problems with Technaxx pci-e 302p card. It has uPD720200a NEC chip with 4020 firmware. BIOS recognises it. Sometimes it recognises devices and system mounts them and are functional for few minutes, other times they can't be mount and error occours. After fresh install card worked fine, but after kernel and firmware update it behaves as mentioned. • First Impressions of a MacBook (from a PC guy)

  Disclaimer: I've been a PC guy my entire working career. I'd probably characterize myself as a power user. Never afraid to bust out the console line. But working with a Mac is totally foreign to me. So for those Mac guys who are curious, this is how your world appears from the outside to a computer literate person :)My Macbook Air has arrived! And it's a thing of beauty:First, the specs: 13" MacBook Air, 2.0GHz Core i7 processor. Upgraded to 8GB of RAM for an additional $100, SSD flash storage  = 256GB. The plan is ultimately to use this baby for some iOS development but also some decent lifting in Windows with Visual Studio. Done a lot of reading  and between VMWare Fusion, Parallels and Bootcamp...I'm going to go with VMWare Fusion for $49.99And now my impressions (please re-read disclaimer before proceeding!):I open the box and am trying to understand exactly how the magsafe connector works (and how to disconnect it).  Why does it have two socket outlet plugs? Who knows.  I feel like Hansel in Zoolander. The files are "in" the computer.Stuck in my external hard drive (usb). So how do I get to the files? To the Googles!Argh...it can't read my external NTFS drive. Fat32 can't support field over 4GB…problematic since some of my existing VMWare image files are much larger than 4GB. Didn't see this coming.Three year old loves iPhoto. Super easy to use. Don't even know what I'm doing but I've already (accidentally) discovered the image filtering options. Fun stuff.First thing I downloaded ever => Chrome. I need something to ground me, something familiar. My token, if you will (sorry, gratuitous Inception joke).Ok, I get it… Finder == windows explorer. But where is my hierarchical structure? I miss the tree :(On that note, yeah…how do I see what "path" my files reside in? I'm afraid to know the answer. You know what scares more though…this notion of a smart folder. Feel like the godfather - just get the job done, I don't care how you handle it, I don't want to know...just get it done. What the hell is AirDrop?Mail…just worked. Still in shock that they have a free client for yahoo mail (please no yahoo jokes).mail -> deleting a message takes 5 seconds. Have they heard of async?"Command" key instead of "Control" ok, then what the $%&^! is the control key for then"aliases" == shortcuts I thinkI don't see the file system. And I'm scared. All these things I'm downloading…these .dmg files (bad name) where are they going? Can't seem to delete when they're doneUgh...realized need to buy a mini-to-vga adaptor if I want to use my external monitor ($13 on ebay, $39 in apple store).Windows docking is trickiest for me…this notion of detached windows with a menu bar at the top. I don't like this paradigm, it's confusing. But maybe because I've been using Windows for too long.Evernote, Dropbox desktop clients seem almost identical…few quirks here and there I need to get used to.iTunes is still a bit gross. In a weird way it's actually worse on a Mac if thats possible. This is not the MacBook's fault…this is a software design issue. Overall: UI will take some getting used to. Can't decide if this represents the future and I'm stuck in the past…or this is the past and I've been spoiled by the future (which would be Windows…don't be hating I happen to be very productive in Win7)  So there you go - my 90 minute first impression of the MacBook universe.

• Sparse virtual machine disk image resizing weirdness?

  I have a partitioned virtual machine disk image created by vmware. What I want to do is resize that by 10GB. The file size is showing as 64424509440. Or 60GB. So I ran this: dd if=/dev/zero of=./win7.img seek=146800640 count=0 It ran without errors and I can verify the new size is in fact 75161927680 bytes or 70GB. This is where it gets a little odd. I started the guest domain in xen which is a Windows 7 enterprise machine. What I was expecting to see in diskmgmt.msc is 2 partitions. 1 system partition at the start of around 100MB and near 60GB partition (which is C drive) followed by around 10GB of free space. Actually what I saw was a 70GB partition!?! That confused me... so I decided to run the Check Disk which when you set it on the C drive it asks you to reboot so it'll run on boot. So I did that and during the boot it ran the checks. It got all the way through stage 3 and didn't show any errors at all. Looked at the partitions in disk manager and now C drive has shrunk back to 60GB and there is no free space. What gives? Ok, I thought I'd try mounting it under Dom0 and examining it with fdisk. • Must go through Windows Boot Loader to get to Grub

  I just installed a fresh copy of Precise alongside Windows 7. I have to separate 750GB hard drives; /dev/sda holds the Windows partitions and /dev/sdb holds the Ubuntu partitions. Other than that, these are fresh installs of both Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04. Whenever I boot, Grub doesn't load, instead it goes to a black screen with a single blinking (horizontal bar) cursor in the top right corner. However, if I boot, hit escape right as the BIOS/POST screen finishes up, see the Windows Boot Loader and hit escape to make it go back to the BIOS screen. After the BIOS screen, grub shows up and everything functions normally; I can boot into Ubuntu or Win7. I don't want to have to do the Escape, Escape, Wait, Boot trick every time. I have no idea what would be wrong or what information I could give you guys to help diagnose. I have run a sudo update-grub and it found everything normally. I tried adding nomodeset flag in the /etc/default/grub line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT which searching around made me think might work. Thoughts on what I could do to fix this? EDIT: I've tried changing the boot order so that both drives in the BIOS (both are labeled as "Internal HDD") have had a try booting first. I think the problem may be that every time I boot, the BIOS boot order is different... and I have to reset it. It seems to not be stable... but I'm not sure how to go about fixing that either. The machine has both traditional BIOS and UEFI. It came standard in "Legacy" mode; so it is currently set to boot through Legacy mode. I've reinstalled Ubuntu now, and now if I hit escape at the end of the BIOS/POST startup screen, it takes me to GRUB menu. Otherwise it automatically loads Windows. It seems like GRUB is now the acting bootloader, it just doesn't automatically start that unless I ask it to open a bootloader. In my other machines, it has always automatically started at the end of BIOS/POST. EDIT2: Using gparted, I just looked at my partitions, it would seem that my linux-swap partition is currently flagged as the boot partition for my Ubuntu install. I currently only have 2 partitions: one of "ext4" with a mount point of "/" and flag " "; and the "linux-swap" with mount point " " and flag "boot." If I change the boot flag to be on "/," it does not reliably solve the problem. After 10 boots: 2 Booted successfully to GRUB 5 Booted directly to Windows 7 3 booted to the black screen with the cursor and hung there Further research makes me think this is an issue of the BIOS not reliably booting hard drives in the same order or not finding both hard drives. If I ask it to create a "boot menu" sometimes it has 2 entries for "Internal HDD," sometimes 1. Also the list it creates changes order every time I bring it up; so it is not following a consistent boot sequence. Will report back if this is not an issue with GRUB.

• Sd card bigger than 2gb is not recognized in ubuntu 12.04

  When I insert a card up to 2gb it is immediately seen by the system but if try it with bigger one it's not seen. I presume the issue is not due to the card reader itself as it reads all cards under windows 7 but due to linux driver. I could see some people having similar issues but no solution. Any help appreciated. GParted doesnt see cards bigger than 2gb. • Grub Rescue Unknown Filesystem Error. Grub Corrupted or Filesystem?

  Now it has happened twice & have been pulling my hairs now... I have installed xubuntu on my external hardisk & have been using it for about 3 months. It has three partitions, one of 500 mb mounted at /boot, 2nd one of 48gb mounted at / & the rest (out of 160gb) is ntfs partition....used as normal external storage. The last storage supposedly acts as a buffer b/w Linux distributions & Win platform, buffer in the sense that it provides a universal channel for data transfers. I have constantly used this external hardisk for data transfers b/w win7 laptop & xubuntu (on this external hd) without any hassle. However, on of my desktops where I have ubuntu I (for the first time) attached this external drive which let me do data transfers where all three partitions properly mounted....but then nasty thing occurred the same that occurred before. I (as usual) tried booting via this external hd (one having xubuntu, one having being formerly used under Ubuntu) I got error Now I am totally devastated because similar thing happened ~6months before when I had fedora 17 in my external hd (instead of xubuntu) & after it was used under ubuntu the same happened...i didn't reported it because I already had planned towards debian instead of rpm! The mystery is that as long as I don't attach this external hd under ubuntu the data never** corrupts whereas under win xp/7 I can use it as a normal usb storage of coarse linux partitions aren’t available under win platforms... **From corrupts I mean hd fails to boot with the error mentioned however cant say whether data within remains untouched? It seems that my grub & or MBR is corrupted. • How to use QSerialDevice in Qt?

  Hello, I am trying to use QSerialDevice in Qt to get a connection to my serial port. I also tried QextSerialPort before (which works on Windows Vista but unfortunately not on Windows XP ..) but I need an API which supports XP, Vista and Win7... I build the library and configured it this way: CONFIG += dll CONFIG += debug I did use the current version from SVN (0.2.0 - 2010-04-05) and the 0.2.0 zip package. After building the library I did copy it to my Qt Libdir (C:\Qt\2009.05\qt\lib) and also to C:\Windows\system32. If I build the QSerialDevice lib with release config and also my program, it crashes immediately but with exit code -1073741819 Can someone help me with this program or with another solution of getting a serial port to work with Qt (maybe another API or something?) Otherwise I have to use Windows API functions which would mean that my program won't work with UNIX systems.. • ASP.NET websites under IIS 7.5 (Windows 7) running extremely slow

  I've just installed Windows 7 x64 Ultimate on my desktop PC. I installed IIS, Visual Studio 2008, registered ASP.NET, etc. I have this ASP.NET 3.5 website I'm working on running EXTREMELY slow on this new IIS. On STA and PROD servers (Windows 2003 Server) and on my old XP/IIS 5.1 everything runs smoothly. A page which usually takes 1-2 seconds to load is taking 8 seconds!!! I saw this post on IIS forum. It says something about Vista/7 not pooling connections (just to let you know, the website is running locally but it's connecting to a SQL Server 2005 hosted on a remote server). It seems that it takes a while to "start loading" the page... I mean, I click refresh and it stays for several seconds "Waiting for localhost"... Then when it gets response it loads the whole page normally... I don't have a clue how to force Win7/IIS7.5 to pool database connections. EDIT: I've created a new empty ASP.NET web application to see if the problems happens too. The answer is no, it responds fast as it should with an empty default page. Maybe is something related to the DB connection. I will do a further test. It should be a way to fix it... EDIT 2: Debugging the app I noticed that the delay occurs AFTER the execution of .NET code (Page_Load, etc)... so the delay seems to be somewhere when IIS serves the page to the browser.

• VS 2010 VSTO Add in for EXCEL 2007 Won't load

  Hi everyone, We have an application that is built with Excel as the front end using the Office object model. We were using a C++ shim to load it as a COM add in for Excel 2003, but I've updated it to use the latest VSTO for Excel 2007. I've also been using VS 2010 for the latest version. The problem is that everything works great on my dev machine in debugger mode as well as just launching Excel 2007, but I cannot get it to run on any other machine (my current target machine is Win7, development is XP). I've created a ClickOnce deployment of the Addin, and I can see it in the list of COM Addins, but when I check on it to load it nothing happens. I re-open the Addins manager and it is un-checked. I've also tried setting in in the registry, but as soon as I run it, it sets the registry back to do not load. I've tried everything I can think of and searched all over the web but no dice. Any help would be appreciated!

• Cannot debug views in MVC2 project, getting "The resource cannot be found" error

  I'm running Visual Studio 2008 sp1 on Win7, with MVC2 RTM installed. I created a new MVC2 project using the wizard and am unable to debug specific pages. With webforms and even MVC1, I was able to sit on a View page, hit F5, and then have the integrated web server in VS2008 start on the page I was working on. Very handy for building up app logic. When I try this now I get a "The resource cannot be found" error page. I retried this just now with a stock new MVC2 Web Application project. Here are the steps I took after creating the new project to reproduce: Open up project settings. Under the Web subtab, set the Start Action to "Current Page". Leave all the other settings as is. Open one of the views up (e.g. Account/Register.aspx) Hit F5 to debug the project Note that the browser window which displays shows the error message "The resource cannot be found". The link I saw in my browser for this run was: http://localhost:49471/Views/Account/Register.aspx I did some googling and found suggestions related to ensuring all HTTP server pieces were installed. I double checked and made sure that "HTTP Errors" and "HTTP Redirection" were both installed. If I leave the project setting as it was originally, set to "Specific Page" with nothing in the text box, then routing works and I always get the default home page. I'm hoping this isn't the only option. Thanks!

• Error using Dynamic Data Filtering: missing datasource

  I am trying to use the ASP.NET Dynamic Data Filtering project, but I'm running into a problem during the configuration. I'm following the instructions on the author's blog, and everything works like described. Then it tells me to change the datasource using the designer view. I am told to select the "GridDataSource" in the "Configure data source" wizard. This option is not there though. I get all of the classes in my project, including the DataContext that was generated by Linq. When I choose "Show only DataContext objects", the dropdown ("Choose your context object:") is completely empty. When I turn of the checkbox and choose my DataContext class, I get asked which table I want and all that. But, as the whole purpose of a Dynamic Data site is NOT to use one single table, that's not much help. So I've looked at the instructions again and copied the resulting datasource from the example: <asp:DynamicLinqDataSource ID="GridDataSource" runat="server" EnableDelete="True" EnableUpdate="True"></asp:DynamicLinqDataSource> Which is exactly what I had, without the "WhereParameters" nodes in there. Now, when I run the list page however, I get an exception about a missing datasource from the filtering component. Of course when I remove the DynamicFilterRepeater, it works again. I created a MyComponent.dll assembly with deploytool from MATLAB 2010a, target framework - 3.5. There is an entry in System Event Log "A process serving application pool 'Classic .NET AppPool' suffered a fatal communication error with the Windows Process Activation Service. The process id was '3676'. The data field contains the error number 6D000780". This happens when MyComponent is instantiating. What I could forget when moved to IIS? Other examples, like magic square console application, runs perfect, and every matlab component instantiating, but not in IIS environment.

• Incorporating the Windows 7 onscreen keyboard into a WPF app

  Windows 7 has a really nice onscreen keyboard program/control for touchscreens. I have a touchscreen app that was originally written for, and will be deployed on, XP. Is it possible to incorporate this keyboard directly into my app, rather than me using a custom control? I can find no programmatic information about it, so any links would be very helpful. Specifically, I'd need: To be able to use the keyboard on an XP machine that will have .NET 3.5 sp1 installed on it. To be able to hide the native keyboard on Windows 7, because I've already incorporated the touchscreen keyboard in my UI and so I don't need another one cluttering up the UI. This native keyboard has two attractive aspects to it. First off, it's automatically localized to the customer's language (though the rest of the app will need modification), and second off, it doesn't seem to suffer from 'touch lag' as the OS tries to figure out whether or not I'm doing a gesture, because I'm clearly typing on a keyboard. The app is WPF based, which should mean easy integration with Windows 7 based controls. EDIT: I'd really like the XP thing, but it's not a requirement. The ability to use the keyboard in Win7, though, seems like it should be possible and even the right way to do it.

  Newbie question since I'm not up to speed using maven at all. I'm trying to use scala + lift using scala 2.8, environment is a win7 box if that matters. • Parallel port with C#

  Hello, I am trying to send data to LPT1 port with a C# program, unfortunately with no success.. I am using windows 7 x64. I tried both x86 and x64 (inpoutx64.dll) dll's.. With the x64 dll when I send: Output(888, 255); It just continues the program as everything went ok, but i can't see anything on my multimeter (only the static 0.02V).. I also tried the following with C++: int main () { int val = 0; printf("Enter a value\n"); scanf("%d", &val); _outp(0x378, val); getchar(); _outp(0x378, 0); return 0; } But it throws an exception: Unhandled exception at 0x01281428 in ppac.exe: 0xC0000096: Privileged instruction. I remember once I made something like this work on xp, I hope it's possible on win7 too.. Please help me with this. Thanks.

• How to tell if Microsoft Works is 32 or 64 bit? Please Help!

  Hi, I am trying to convert one of our apps to run on Win7 64 bit from XP 32 bit. One of the things that it uses is Excel to import files. It's a little complicated since it was using Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 (Excel). I found Office 14 (2010) has a 64bit version I can download. I downloaded Office 2010 Beta but it didn't seem to install Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.14.0. I found that I could download 2010 Office System Driver Beta: Data Connectivity Components which has the ACE.OLEDB.14 in it but when I try to install it, the installed tells me "You cannot install the 64-bit version of Access Database engine for Microsoft Office 2010 because you currently have 32-bit Office products installed". How do I determine what 32bit office products this is reffering to? My Dell came with Microsoft Works installed. I don't know if this is 32 or 64 bit. Is there anyway to tell? I don't want to uninstall this if it's not the problem and I'm not sure what else might be the problem. Any help would be appreciated! thanks, Bill

• Unable to install Management Studio Express 2008 due to Visual Studio 2008 installation

  I am attempting to install Managment Studio Express 2008 on a Win7 system that already has Visual Studio 2008 installed. I have installed VS 2008 SP1, which results in the About box for Visual Studio giving a version of 9.0.30792.1 SP. When I attempt the Management Studio installation I see a message that tells me that I must install SP1. However, this is already installed. After a fair bit of searching I came across the link below, where someone had commented with a command line option for the installation executable that forced it to skip the check. However, this simply pushed the error to later in the installation process. http://www.thushanfernando.com/index.php/2008/08/10/fix-rule-previous-releases-of-microsoft-visual-studio-2008-failed/. This seems to be a perennial problem for Microsoft. I can't remember a time when I've painlessly installed both Management Studio and Visual Studio. Anyone had any success in solving this problem before I take on the day-long task of uninstalling and reinstalling Visual Studio and all its associated bits?

• Why is WMDC/ActiveSync so flaky?

  I'm developing a Windows Mobile app using the .NET Compact Framework 3.5 and VS2008, and for debugging using the Device Emulator V3, on Win7, and seem to have constant problems with Windows Mobile Device Centre (6.1) connecting. Using the Emulator Manager (9.0.21022.8) I cradle the device using DMA in WMDC. The problem is it's so flaky at actually connecting that it's becoming a pain. I find that when I turn my computer on, before I can get it to connect I have to open up WMDC, disable Connect over DMA, close WMDC down, reopen it again, and then it might cradle. Often I have to do this twice before it will cradle. Once it's cradled it's generally fine, but nothing seems consistent in getting it to connect. Connecting with physical devices is often better, although not always. If I plug a PDA into a USB socket other than the one it was originally plugged into then it won't connect at all. Often the best/most reliable connection method seems to be over Bluetooth, but that's quite slow. Anybody got any tips or advice?

• Test Results window in VS2008 not showing results

  I have an existing solution that has been working for a long time, containing around 600 tests in a couple of test projects. I recently moved to a new PC - it's Win7-x64, and I installed a fresh copy of VS2008. When I first opened the solution on the new machine, the Test List Editor was completely empty. Trying to create a new test list caused the editor to refresh, and now it shows my test lists, but they're acting funny. I can select tests in the lists, and run them, but the results window doesn't usually update automatically to show the results of the latest test. It has done this when running a single test a couple of times, but even that is not consistent. The only way I can view the results is by manually going to the Test Runs window and connecting to individual test runs. When I do that, the results show up in the results list, but I can't check them to re-run the failed tests - the check boxes are all disabled. I guess I should describe the way it used to work, in case that was unusual - I used to select some tests from the Test Lists window, tell it to run them, and the results window would clear itself, and then display the results from the current run. I could then check any tests that I wanted to re-run, and use the run/debug button in the results window to do so. Any ideas what's going on here?

• How to prepopulate an Outlook MailItem and avoiding a com Exception from the object model guard

  Hi, I work for a company that develops a CRM tool and offers integration with MS Office(2003 & 2007) from windows XP to 7. (I'm working using Win7) My task is to call an Outlook instance (using C#) from this CRM tool when the user wants to send an email and prepopulate with data of the CRM tool (email, recipient, etc..) All of this already works just fine. The problem I'm having is that Outlook's "object model guard" is throwing com Exception (Operation aborted (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004004 (E_ABORT))) the moment I try to read a protected value from the mailItem (such as mail.bodyHTML). Example Snippet: using MSOutlook = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook; //untrusted Instance _outlook = new MSOutlook.Application(); MSOutlook.MailItem mail = (MSOutlook.MailItem)_outlook.CreateItem(MSOutlook.OlItemType.olMailItem); //this where the Exception occurs string outlookStdHTMLBody = mail.HTMLBody; I've done quite a bit of reading and know that my Outlook Instance (derived by using new Application) is considered untrusted and therefore the "omg" kicks in. I do have a workaround for development: I'm running VS2010 as Administrator and if I run Outlook as Administrator as well - all is good. I suppose this is due to them having the same integrity levels(high) and the UAC(?) is not complaining. But that just ain't the way to go for deployment. Now the question is: Is there a way to obtain a trusted instance of Outlook so that I can avoid this exception? I've already read that when developing an Office Add-In using VSTO one can obtain a trusted Instance from the OnComplete event and/or using "ThisAddin" But I "merely" want to start an outlook instance and preopulate it, and do not want to develop an Add-In since this is not the requirement. And to make it clear - I have no problem with pop ups informing the user that outlook is being accessed - I just want to get rid of the exception! So how can I get around this problem using code? Any help is highly appreciated! Thomas
