  • How can I email a vCard to users who are unable to download it?

    I have created vCards for the people in my business, and they are great for users on standard browsers; however, users browsing on a mobile device (notably iPhone) are unable to download and view my vCard. Is there a service that I can direct them to that will allow them to receive an email containing my vCard, or is there a simple way I can set this up myself? I am running my site on WordPress, and initial attempts have failed spectacularly. I'd like for them to be given the option to perform either action, but have the predominant action more prominently visible (probably via user agent detection). Something along the lines of: It looks like you're on an iPhone! It's a bummer they can't download vCards, but if you enter your email address, we'll wrap one up and send it your way! Don't worry, we won't send you junk email. Heck, we don't even save your email address! [email protected] Think you've got it all figured out? Fine, download the vCard instead! If you know of a service or simple-to-implement PHP library (or WordPress plug-in), please let me know! If not, let me know what the best solution to this problem is!

    I have my online shop, created with WP Ecommerce getting broken after I moved it to another server. I could be sure that the problem comes from WP Ecommerce because when I disable that plugin. I googled it some more and suspect it might have something to do with fastCGI configuration and stuff. Which I totally don't understand. My googling result mostly suggest me to consult the web hosting provider or even to move to another host. But in this case, I am the owner of the server (VPS with cPanel/WHM). And I don't have any idea how to solve this kind of problem.

    I'm running nginx wordpress server in KVM using 12.04 server x86. It was running very well about 4 month until 2 hours ago. I found that my website is down and no ping response. Virt-manager logged high cpu load(plz see the picture below) before unexpected shut down. I want to know what process caused unexpected shutdown. The following log files make me think my server is attacked. Any suggestions and help would be appreciated. kern.log and syslog showed me same output. I have found some tutorials on how to delay your feed (http://wpengineer.com/publish-the-feed-later/) but it uses the conditional statement is_feed and I don't want to apply this to all feeds, just one particular feed. Any advice?

    local install of wp site brought down from host - home page is ok but other pages redirect to wamp config page. I got all local files from host to www dir under local wamp.     A friend has asked me to build a site with the following options: staff members must be able to add new music and artists to the page a gallery must be provided - it is also good if each artist has the ability to have his/her own, smaller, gallery users must be able to vote for artists users must be able to alter in discussions (forums or comments sections) staff members must be able to blog staff members must be able to write articles I did a small project where i actually implementet all of these features, but i want to use an existing content managment system for all of these features so that future devolpers can, hopefully, more easy extend the website. And also, so that i dont have to provide to much documentation. I have never developed a website using an external cms like drupal or wordpress and after seeing hours of tutorial videos of both systems, i still cant make up my mind on wheter i should : a) use Drupal 7 b) use Wordpress 3 c) create my own cms I can only imagine that staff members would also want to create content using iphone or android based mobile devices. But this is not a required feature. Can someone, with experience, please tell me about their experiences with bigger projects like this? The site will approx. have a total of 400 000 - 500 000 visitors (not daily visitors, based on numbers from last year in a period of 4 months)

  • 404s on password protected content

    I'm new to WordPress and SEO, generally, but we've been running into problems with our site that don't seem to make sense to me. The problem is that our editor likes to schedule posts and/or mark them private until she is ready to make them public, but somehow Google is crawling these posts and getting 404s (because they are password protected). How does Google know they exist in the first place? I checked the sitemap.xml file and don't see a record of the post. One of the offending posts was marked public, but is scheduled for a future date. Could that have something to do with it? I've tried to Google the answer, and I came up with a good amount of reassurance that this won't hurt the site, but I'm still wondering how it's happening in the first place. It's hard because I don't know exactly what the editor's workflow is. Is it possible she's posting publicly first and then revising it to be private only after it's too late? Does anyone know how Google finds WordPress URLs it shouldn't have access to?

I'd like to have posts in the loop filtered by categories, defined by the user through an admin page. I would actually like to be able to modify query_post() parameters in the plugin, but the only trick I found is to re-run the query_post() with my user-defined criteria, thing that I would like to avoid. I'm sure the solution is evident, but can't find it!
