• Using Qt with custom MinGW

  Hi, I don't know if this question would fit better on superuser.com, but since it's rather compiler related, I give it a try here. I have to use Qt with a specific version of gcc (4.5). I downloaded the last official Qt release for Windows (Vista, 32 bits version) and didn't install the shipped MinGW version; I just installed the Qt libraries/binaries. In a console, when I type qmake && make, make fails, complaining that 'g++' is not recognized as an internal command. If I type g++ in the same console, I however have the following output: g++: no input files So g++ is definitely recognized. For those who may ask, both the Qt binaries directory and MinGW binaries directory are in the system PATH environment variable. What could be wrong here ?

• Why am I getting this warning about my app delegate and CLLocationManageDelegate?

  Observe this perfectly simple UIViewController subclass method: -(IBAction)launchSearch { OffersSearchController *search = [[OffersSearchController alloc] initWithNibName:@"OffersSearchView" bundle:nil]; EverWondrAppDelegate *del = [UIApplication sharedApplication].delegate; [del.navigationController pushViewController:search animated:YES]; [search release]; } On the line where I get *del, I am getting a compiler warning that reads, Type 'id <UIApplicationDelegate>' does not conform to the 'CLLocationManagerDelegate' protocol. In fact, my app delegate DOES conform to that protocol, AND what I'm doing here has nothing at all to do with that. So what's up with that message? Secondary question: sometimes I can get to my navigationController via self.navigationController, and sometimes I can't, and have to go to my app delegate's property to get it like I'm doing here. Any hint about why that is would be very useful.

  Hi I'm using the below method to write to a file from the Jtextarea and I call this method every 30 second within a Timer but instead to add only new line in file it rewrite the entire lines contained in Jtextarea so then I have duplicate lines. I want to avoid this and update the file just with new lines. • Trying to connect internally to Oracle, getting an idle instance?

  So I have an Oracle instance, and I know it's running on this system, I've su'd to the oracle user, and I'm trying to connect using "/ as sysdba". However, when I do connect, it says the instance is idle. I know the database is up and opened, because my application's talking to it.   I've recently convinced my management that our outdated version of Rails is slowing us down enough to warrant an upgrade. The approach we're taking is to start a fresh project with current technology rather than a painful upgrade. Our requirements for the project have changed and this will be much easier. The biggest problem is actually that my knowledge of Rails is out of date. I've dealt only with Rails 1.2.4 while the rest of the world has moved on long ago. What topics have I missed by being buried in my work instead of keeping up with the current Rails fashion? I'm hesitant to dig through blogs at random because I'm not sure how much has changed between the intervening versions of Rails. It's no use to learn Rails 2.1-2.3 specific stuff that is no longer useful for Rails 3.

• Can I create a new project based on GNU GPL v2?

  I've found a SourceForge project with a solid core that I would like to improve. The project hasn't been updated since 2007 so I assume it is "dead". I sent an e-mail asking to become a contributor to the listed project manager last week but still haven't received a response. The project is licensed under the GNU GPL v2. I would like to contribute to the current project but that doesn't appear to be possible. Can I modify the current source version of the project and release this modified project? I would keep the same license on the modified project.

  Dear all, I would like to do a simple sum per salesid in php - mysql after cross calculation between date (2 table) to get the real time commission, all the value already come out correctly but I got problem with final sum per sales id. salesid-commission aa0001 - 1000 bb0001 - 500 aa0001 - 200 bb0001 - 50 I already try with few sample in this web but still cannot meet the correct result. • How to gather usage statistics for iPhone app?

  I am in the process of releasing my first iPhone app. It's a simple utility, I'd just like to gauge the release process, app lifetime and trends, just so it can help make more realistic choices in future apps. I think it would be nice to have usage statistics in addition to download stats from Apple. For example, how many times is the app opened by each user, what iPhone OS version do they have, etc. I think some of it would simply be to try and connect to a known URL on one of my domains, passing it anonymous information (let's say, connect to http://mydomain.net/stats?app=myApp&version=1.0.0&os=3.1.2&used=18). My questions are: is that forbidden in any way by Apple's rules? (none that I could find, at least) does that seem reasonable to you? are there existing frameworks that would do that simpler/better that writing my own code?

  How could I implement a sub item where the item would have a parent to that of the same item. For example, I have a database that holds tasks/todos. Each todo has a title(TEXT), completed(INTEGER [1 if true, 0 if false]), and due date(TEXT) column. I would like to add functionality to have subtasks, where a task could possibly have a parent task. How would I implement this in SQLite for Android? NOT IN SQL! So no foreign keys (triggers are allow, though)! Could I just have a separate table (subtask) and have a foreign key trigger to link subtask(INTEGER parent) to task(INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT _id)? Or should I add a column to my original task table(INTEGER parent)? How could I implement this?

• Flex chart display with no datapoint

  I need to display price of item for every date in the month. The chart can be Bar chart or plot chart. Question: Suppose there is no data available for 01/15/2010 then, Is there a way to display (01/15/2010) on x axis but no (bar or plot point) corresponding y axis point ? i.e. there will be a empty space between 2 bars or plot points. Currently i am using 0 , But 0 is a valid value. Let me know if such a display is possible.

  I've just installed the new Aquamacs 2.0 in my Mac Os X 10.6.3 and I'm an happy user of IDLWAVE on Aquamacs for programming in IDL. Unfortunately I run into a problem which I can't understand. I used in my configuration file to put the following (setq idlwave-surround-by-blank t) for the beautiful space around operator. • Rails advanced queries with join and sum calculation

  I have two models: companies and expenses. Companies have many expenses and expenses belong to companies. My expense model has an 'amount' column. I was wondering if there is a way to perform a find based on a date range and the amount column of the expenses. Something like top 3 companies by total expense amounts over a 7 day period. I've tried for the better part of the day to get this to work, I've attempted joins, chaining named scopes, raw sql, etc. and I'm not having any luck. Thanks for the help.

  I remember a while a go on a SO podcast Jeff was talking about the bounty system and he said that they released the bounty offering code before the bounty awarding code was written as the code would not be needed for a couple of weeks. Is there a standard term for this? Agile can work in this way but it doesn’t have to. I am thinking of suggesting it to a client for something and would like to use the correct terminology along with any information backing it up as a method. Essentially the method is to release code with some functionality incomplete as the time until the incomplete functionality is needed is less that the time it will take to develop.

• Migrating from Physical SQL (SQL2000) To VMWare machine (SQL2008) - Transferring Large DB

  We're in the middle of migrating from a windows & SQL 2000 box to a Virtualised Win & SQL 2k8 box The VMWare box is on a different site, with better hardware, connectivity etc... The old(current) physical machine is still in constant use - I've taken a backup of the DB on this machine, which is 21GB Transfering this to our virtual machine took around 7+ hours - which isn't ideal when we do the "actual" switchover. My question is - How should I handle the migration better? Could i set up our current machine to do log shipping to the VM machine to keep up to date? then, schedule down time out of hours to do the switch over? Is there a better way?

• Is is bad practice to put a period in a URI path?

  I am designing a REST API for a web application. I want to clearly version the API so that the interface can be changed in future without breaking existing services. So in my v1.0 API I want to clearly identify it as the v1.0 API, leaving me the freedom to release a future v1.1 version with breaking changes. My question is, would a period in the path component of a URI be bad practice? eg. Is there any good reason not to use http://mysite.com/myapi/v1.0/services as a URI to my service?

  Hi, I am trying to output a range of commands with different dates and numbers associated. for each hour eg. Output im trying to do in a loop is: shell.sh filename<number e.g. between 1-24> <date e.g. 20100928> <number e.g. between 1-24> <id> So basically the the above will generate an output done 24 times for each particular day with a unique 4 digit id. I was thinking of having a nested loop, as the batch number needs to be unique. can anyone help?

  I am now reading Foundations of F# by Robert Pickering and parallelly the book in progress 'Real World Functional Programming' by Tomas Petricek. My question is, what is the added value I would get from buying and reading the following books: 1) Expert F# by Don Syme and others 2) F# for Scientists by John Harrop Are those books still up to date with the current CTP version. What are things to keep notice of with respect to the recent changes in the language? Will there be reprinted updated versions? Also I want to learn more about datamining techniques with F# as a tool for this. What are good books to read next on this topic?
