• Grouping extensions in Asterisk

  We have an asterisk based phone system with multiple clients connected to it. At the moment, all the extension numbers fall in the range 100 - 9999. But, now we have an issue where a particular customer wants to come onto our service and insists on keeping their existing extension list. Is there a way of having extensions 700 for one customer, and also the same number range to another customer. But yet having them belong to a different group? I see there is a concept of groups in asterisk but none of them seem to provide a solution to this.

  Oracle E-Business Proactive Support has created many new guided resolution documents that you may find helpful in resolving issues in your EBS applications.  These new documents are called “Search Helpers” and they guide you through your issue to a solution.  They are meant to be an easy and fast method to finding a relevant, complete solution. Hundreds of notes and service requests were reviewed and the best solutions to these known issues were selected.  For some issues, notes were updated to better clarify the solution.  In other cases, if a note with a solution did not already exist, one was created. • Is there a log showing why a Windows server did not restart SQL Server after a reboot?

  Our server was rebooted after a Windows Update scheduled for 1am, but after the restart SQL Server did not start up, so our websites were unable to display. Usually this process happens with no manual intervention. Is there a log somewhere which might indicate the reason why the Windows startup process did not call SQL Server to get going again? I've looked in the Event Viewer (Application Log) and SQL's own file E:\MSSQL\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Log\ERRORLOG* but these only contain records of successful startup operations....nothing mentions a failed attempt to start a service or anything like that.

• Haproxy Slow Reload in DB Mode

  Recently I started using great tool for load balancing - Haproxy. There is only one disturbing thing that I cannot figure out how to deal with it. We use haproxy for load balancing mysql traffic. When there is a lot of traffic and many connection it takes ages for haproxy to reload (~ 30 min), with less traffic it doest reload within 1 min. I do reload with: service haproxy reload Of course if I need to do an urgent change in configuration I expect haproxy to do reload very fast. Killing haproxy instances waiting for disconnection causes to disconnection of msyql connections. It looks like that I made mistake in settings of haproxy or in settings of application. If you know how to solve this please help me. Thanks!

  Our organization is load testing our application using virtual servers via Hyper-V to see what the user load can be using fair equipment on a single box setup. The developer group questioned the validity of the tests given the normal use of the box by the other virtual machines. IT admins answered that it is an acceptable platform to load test on because it has its own CPUs, memory and disks allocated. Is their answer mostly correct? What hardware factors may be considered bottle necks given the other virtual machines when testing our application? For example, would bus speed be a concern or network IO? The application consists of a windows service written using the 4.0 .NET Framework and SQL Server 2008 R2.

  One of our companies uses Postini services as our spam filtering service. Unfortunately, the company has been tagged as a spammer and we're trying to use emailreg.org to whitelist us. Emailreg.org wants us to add a CNAME which points to their domain (emaireg.org), while Postini has us add MX records (such as domainname.s7a1.psmtp.com. Here are my questions: 1. Can adding Emaireg's CNAME cause either Postini to not work or our emails to be lost? 2. Which is order of execution (do the email go to Postini and upon their return to EmailReg or is it the other way around)? 3. Is there anything of which I should be aware when using such a setup? • Recommend a Rackspace Cloud Server API Language Binding?

  Rackspace publishes only a hard-to-use HTTP and JSON/XML based "API" (they call it an API but it's really a non-standard Web Service without a WSDL). There are dozens of open-source language bindings to choose from. I have tried three of them so far and they're all horrible (incomplete, buggy, and/or undocumented). Can anybody recommend a language binding which is reasonably complete, well documented, and bug-free? I can use Perl, Python, PHP, or Java. My ultimate objective is to create a script/program that will provision a server, launch a process inside it, wait for the process to finish, copy the results to the local server, and destroy the remote server. What's the best choice for that? Thanks

• Installing a fake microphone on Windows Server.

  My application, that is running on Windows Server (which is an instance on Amazon EC2) requires Skype to be able to make phone calls. The server, of course, does not have a microphone installed and I don't need it to have one, because my application changes the input source to a wav file when the call is established. However, Skype has a strict rule that a microphone must be installed for a call to be made. Thus I want to install a fake microphone that will trick Skype's configuration. So far, I was able to start and run the Windows Sound service, which enabled all of the sound settings. Any ideas are very welcome!

  I will soon be running an internet-based public service which will physically be hosted in the UK on a virtual server. The virtual server is provided by the ISP. I was wondering if there is/are any legal requirement(s) to keep access logs, and if yes - for how long? There is a Wikipedia article that touches this subject but I'm afraid my brain just can't grasp the legislative gibberish. I believe there's EU law and there's UK law; and I do need to comply to both, right? Can somebody explain this in pure layman's terms?

• Practical way to set up an email inbox for testing?

  I need to test a high-volume email application. Up to now, I've just been using gmail ad-hoc aliases ([email protected]) to receive emails and see that the content is right. However, I now need to verify a recipient list, which means I need to get every single email that goes out on a particular test run. The problem with Google isn't clear, but there's some throttling somewhere (perhaps from SendGrid, who is my delivery provider), and only a very small number of those emails ever make it to my acount. So: what's a practical way to get where I want to be? Is there a way to get gmail to just accept everything? Is there a web app / service somewhere that will let me throw up a fake email address that can receive for a large number of recipients? Is there something else?

  I purchased an Apple TV for my parents and I have a netflix account. My parents live overseas, and I was wondering if they could use my account to get it to work. I read that it won't work unless you use proxies or a VPN, so I was wondering if its possible for me to setup a VPN to my network in the US instead of paying a service like StrongVPN? Setup: Router in US - Airport Extreme Router abroad - D-link (not sure of model) I know that the AppleTV doesn't have a built-in VPN client, maybe eventually when its jailbroken there will be an app, but as of now I'll have to use the routers right?   I'm trying to create a cname that points from my custom domain (s.mydomain.com) to a multilevel subdomain hosted on heroku (me.myapp.herokuapp.com). I've created the Cname s.mydomain.com with the value me.myapp.herokuapp.com. When I go to s.mydomain.com it does not route to me.myapp.herokuapp.com, instead I get: method=GET path=/ host=s.mydomain.com dyno=web.1 queue=0 wait=0ms connect=4ms service=18ms status=404 It's possible I'm not fully understanding how this Cname should be setup. My desired outcome is for s.mydomain.com to act as if it were at me.myapp.herokuapp.com.

• KVM/Qemu Guest Shutdown problems

  on both host and guest running CentOS 6.3 with KVM/Qemu virtualization, I have the following scenarios: "virsh shutdown kvm1" did not shutdown at all. virsh lists guest as running. "service libvirt-guests stop" did not shutdown in 280 seconds (shutdown_timeout=300. on_shutdown=shutdown) "shutdown now" from within guest, guest becomes unreachable. virsh lists guest as running, though it could not connect to it. "shutdown -h now" from within guest works. "shutdown -r now" from within guest works. Libvirt logs show nothing for the first 3 scenarios. I can pause the guest fine. Bottom line, I cannot shutdown from outside the guest. What do I check to figure out what is going on?

• How can I stream video from my XP sp3 desktop to my win 7 laptop?

  I would like to stream media from my XP sp3 desktop to my Win7 laptop. I currently have Windows Media Player 11 on both machines. The XP one is set up for the media sharing service as far as I can tell. I have also set the 'Play To' option to my Win 7 machine on the XP WMP. However, the only way I've been able to 'stream' is to simply tell my Win7 WMP to add a network folder to its libraries. This seems to work over the wifi but it does stutter a touch, even with a 20 second buffer. The stuttering also appears randomly, maybe 4-5 times during a 22 minute show. I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Is this setup OK or am I missing something?

• Dropbox context menu missing in OS X

  Problem My Dropbox context menu is missing in OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8). While the Dropbox service runs normally, Finder doesn't show the icons and also doesn't give me the ability to browse files on the website or copy the public link. What I've tried Removed ~/.dropbox and ~/Dropbox/.dropbox.cache Reinstalled Dropbox.app (both 1.4.7 stable and 1.5.0 experimental), went through the setup again Restarted Finder Logged out and back in All of these I've done over and over again, in random permutations. I've made sure that Dropbox appears in the Login Items under my Account (and I've never touched that) I don't know if ~/Library/Contextual Menu Items is missing the Dropbox plugin or if there shouldn't be one after all. In any case, I can't get the icons or the menu to appear.

• Storage replication/mirror over WAN

  Hello, We are looking at storage replication between two data centers (600km apart) to support an active-passive cluster design for disaster recovery. The OS layer will be mostly Windows Server 2003/2008 with some OpenSuSE Linux used for performance monitoring on VMWare or possibly XenServer. The primary application service to replicate is Nvision. Datacenter 1 will have two storage systems for local active-passive or perhaps active-active replication with Datacenter 2 used as a last resport disaster recovery site. We have a handle on most aspects, but I am looking for specific recommendations on storage platforms that can handle remote replication cleanly. Thanks.
