• Industrialized SOA – topic of Business Technology Magazine

  Although it has become quieter around SOA, the concept is not buried at all. On the contrary, over the years it has reached a new maturity level. Hypes such as Cloud Computing and Big Data have pushed SOA out of the headlines; however "the new hypes have not replace service orientation, but built on it." • Any tips for designing the invoicing/payment system of a SaaS?

  The SaaS is for real estate companies, and they can pay a monthly fee that will offer them 1000 publications but they can also consume additional publications or other services that will appear on their bill as extras. On registration the user can choose one of the 5 available plans that the only difference will be the quantity of publications their plan allows them to make. But they can pass that limit if they wish, and additional payment will be required on the next bill. A publication means: Publishing a property during one day, for 1 whole month would be: 30 publications. And 5 properties during one day would be 5 publications. So basically the user can: Make publications (already paid in the monthly fee, extra payment only if it passes the limit) Highlight that publication (extra payment) Publish on other websites or printed catalogues (extra payment) Doubts: How to handle modifications in pricing plans? Let's say quantities change, or you want to offer some free stuff. How to handle unpaid invoices? I mean, freeze the service until the payment has been done and then resume it. When to make the invoices? The idea is to make one invoice for the monthly fee and a second invoice for the extra services that were consumed. What payment methods to use? The choosen now is by bank account, and mobile phone validation with a SMS. If user doesn't pay we call that phone and ask for payment. Any examples on billing online services will be welcome! And now i have some doubts about this point.I have many users and they are all visiting my web page from various countries.To be more specific first; does my data stored only of the Cloud Storage data center ? or Does my data replicated over many data centers of my provider? second if so; how can i benefit from content delivery network? (matching and placing users’ content nearest storage data centers)

• Duplicate incoming TCP traffic on Debian Squeeze

  I have to test a homebrew server that accepts a lot of incoming TCP traffic on a single port. The protocol is homebrew as well. For testing purposes, I'd like to send this traffic both : - to the production server (say, listening on port 12345) - to the test server (say, listening on port 23456) My clients apps are "dumb" : they never read data back, and the server never replies anyway, my server only accepts connections, and do statistical computations and store/forward/service both raw and computed data. Actually, client apps and hardware are so simple there is no way I can tell clients to send their stream on both servers... And using "fake" clients is not good enough. What could be the simplest solution ? I can of course write an intermediary app that just copy incoming data and send it back to the testing server, pretending to be the client. I have a single server running Squeeze and have total control over it. Thanks in advance for your replies.

• Windows 7 - Runs in safe mode, crashes in "normal" mode

  A couple of days ago I came back from a meeting to find my laptop had locked up. Power lights still on but the screen was blank (by which I mean black, though still "backlit" so not dead). Didn't respond to anything. I rebooted and it powered up fine and I got to the login screen. I logged in and it seemed to be going fine for about 30 seconds (gmail notifier and pidgin popped up) then the same thing happened - black screen. If I boot into Safe Mode it's all fine, no problems. I've tried removing everything from the startup folders (All users and my login), everything from the Run section of the registry (Local Machine and my login) and I've disabled every service which doesn't run in Safe Mode (assuming anything running in safe mode is OK) but the problem still exists. I've scanned the memory for errors (all fine). Any thoughts on what else I could try?

• Can not change to a static IP in Fedora 19

  Im having a bit of a weird situation. Ive installed Fedora Linux 19 onto a virtual machine with no GUI. initially eth0 does not show up when I perform ifconfig. when I run dmesg | grep eth I see the adapter but it says it changed names to p2p1. Once I perform the ifconfig p2p1 up command it shows up. Now when I try to edit the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-p2p1, it does not exist. the only scripts that are there lo and enp0s3. If I try to create the ifcfg-p2p1 file with the correct settings, I can not restart the network service. I tried editing the enp0s3 file, but that did not work. Im fairly new to linux and not sure what else to put in here, so if you need any more information just let me know and Ill put it in here.

• Set up router to vpn into proxy server

  I have a small network with a single LinkSys router connected to broadband in US via Comcast. I have a VPN proxy server account that I can use with a standard Windows connection, allowing me to have a geographic IP fingerprint in Europe, this is useful for a number of purposes. I want to setup a 2nd router that automatically connects via VPN to this proxy service, so any hardware that is connected to router 2 looks as though it is originating network requests in Europe, and any hardware connected to my main router has normal Comcast traffic (all requests are originating from USA). My 2nd router is a LinkSys WRT54G2, I'm having trouble getting this configured. Question, is what I'm trying to do even feasible? Should the WRT54G2 be able to do this with native functionality? Would flashing it with DD-WRT allow me to achieve my objectives? Any help/suggestions much appreciated. Neil

  Twitter is a popular social networking web service for writing and sharing short messages. These tidy text messages are referred to as tweets and are limited to 140 characters. Users can leave tweets and follow other users directly from Twitter's website or by using the Twitter API. Twitter's API makes it possible to integrate Twitter with external applications. For example, you can use the Twitter API to display your latest tweets on your blog. A mom and pop online store could integrate Twitter such that a new tweet was added each time a customer completed an order. And ELMAH, a popular open-source error logging library, can be configured to send error notifications to Twitter. Twitter's API is implemented over HTTP using the design principles of Representational State Transfer (REST). In a nutshell, inter-operating with the Twitter API involves a client - your application - sending an XML-formatted message over HTTP to the server - Twitter's website. The server responds with an XML-formatted message that contains status information and data. While you can certainly interface with this API by writing your own code to communicate with the Twitter API over HTTP along with the code that creates and parses the XML payloads exchanged between the client and server, such work is unnecessary since there are many community-created Twitter API libraries for a variety of programming frameworks. • Windows 2008R2 two node failover cluster creation fails

  We have just installed two Windows 2008R2 Enterprise machines with identical hardware. When running the cluster validation everything is ok. When creating the cluster it fails with the following error: An error occurred while creating the cluster. An error occurred creating cluster 'CLUSTER04'. The parameter is incorrect The logfile on the first node where we are running our config from, does not show any errors. On the second node we get: The Cluster service is shutting down because quorum was lost. This could be due to the loss of network connectivity between some or all nodes in the cluster, or a failover of the witness disk. I've double checked and all communication between the servers are fine. Even when creating a one node cluster it gives the error. There are other failover clusters we have setup without any issues.

• How to start a s3ql script automatically on boot?

  I've been experimenting with s3ql on Ubuntu 10.04, using it to mount Amazon S3 buckets. However, I'd really like it to mount them automatically. Does anyone know how to do that? I've been working on a script, which works when its run from from the commandline, but for some reason I can't get it to run automatically on boot. Does anyone have any ideas? • Customizable mail server - what are my options? [closed]

  This question was originally on SO but it was closed since it is considered off topic. I am interested to build a mail service that allows you to incorporate custom logic in the your mail server. For example, user A can reply to [email protected] once and subsequent emails from user A to [email protected] will not go through until certain actions are taken. I am looking for something simple and customizable, preferably open-sourced. I am fluent in most modern languages. What email servers do you guys recommend for this? Mailgun looks promising, but are there any simpler options?

Do not forget to take a photo with them and later on, share the photo on social media. It would be nice to send an email to everyone with attached high resolution images if you have their email address. After-hours parties After-hours parties are not always about eating and meeting friends but sometimes, they are very informative. Last time I ended up meeting an SQL expert, and we end up talking for long hours on various aspects of SQL Server. After 4 hours, we figured out that he stays in the same apartment complex as mine and since we have had an excellent friendship, he has then become our family friend. So, my advice is that you start to seek out who is meeting where in the evening and see if you can get invited to the parties. Make new friends but never lose mutual respect by doing something silly. Meet Me I will be at the event for three days straight. I will be around the SQL tracks. Please stop by and introduce yourself. I would like to meet you and talk to you.   I'm trying to setup the logentries service. If a log entry has a token in it then I would like to send it to api.logentries.com:10000. The token is a guid in the format aaaaaaaa-bbbb-cccc-dddd-eeeeeeeeeeee. • Norton Security Suite Symantec Download Manager Error: "Error writing to disk"

  My broadband provider (Comcast) decided to switch their 'included with service' security suite from McAfee to Norton Security Suite. Their email directed me to a site that downloaded the Symantec Download Manager (NortonDL.exe) and that went fine. I'm running Windows 7 32-bit and running this application pops up the standard User Account Control message and the software is correctly identified as coming from Symantec. I answer 'yes' to allow the software to install and upon launch immediately get an "Error writing to disk" error. I searched the Internet for this error, but mainly I find Comcast users complaining about the same issue with no resolution other than to call Symantec. I found no one suggesting a successful workaround and it appeared that most of the support calls took up to three hours. I'd like to avoid that if possible. Ideas? To be honest, I'm getting close to bagging this installation and just moving to Microsoft Security Essentials.

• How to legitimately work around ISP rate limits

  A lot of ISP rate limit the amount of e-mails that is sent from a particular IP address. What is the proper way to get around that rate limit? Our company has an iPhone application that sends many e-mails because of our large user base and many e-mails go to different ISPs that rate limit the number of messages coming from a specific IP. We do not send spam and we are a legitimate business. However, is there a better way to resolve this limitation rather than just getting a ton of IP addresses? Ideally, I wouldn't want to rely on a third party service to send mail. However, if its the only possible solution, we would consider.

• What is the best package repository for Debian ?

  Hello everybody I have a question regarding packages repository in Debian (Lenny). A new server at rackspace cloud service comes with nothing (plain system) so i had to upgrade system and install all necessary packages by myself. But the problem is that default repositories does not provide newer versions of software i need (PHP is 5.2.6, comparing to 5.2.13). In CentOS i used to get all new packages from third-party sources, which works really well till now. I have talked to guys from rackspace about it and looks like they cant provide anything except kernel headers. And i dont really want to build from source. So, whats the way to get newer software ? Any good third party sources? Thanks.

• iChat can't authenticate to Lion Server 10.7.2 [migrated]

  I've enabled iChat and iCal Server through our local 10.7.2 Server which has DNS set up correctly. I can add the server account via a client's System Preferences (under other - Mac OS X server) and it authenticates with my shortname correctly. However, when I load iChat, I get this error message: Where the account is [email protected]. The password and username is correct. Console throws this error: 22/11/11 3:03:31.135 PM imagent: [Warning] XMPPConnection: Error: Error Domain=XMPPErrorDomain Code=105 "The operation couldn?t be completed. (XMPPErrorDomain error 105.)" UserInfo=0x7f81bbe2a3e0 {XMPPErrorText=service requested for unknown domain} DNS is set up correctly (it's working for Profile Management, Software Update Server and Web Services) but I can't get iChat to work correctly. How can I get clients to authenticate? FYI: It's probably worth noting that I get the exact same error messages when I use [email protected] instead of [email protected]. • Nautilus header bar missing -- Ubuntu Gnome 13.10 (Gnome 3.10)

  So, I recently did a fresh install of Ubuntu GNOME 13.10, added the gnome3-team/gnome3-next and gnome3-team/gnome3-staging PPA's, and upgraded to Gnome 3.10. (Also using a dual-monitor system, 1920 x 1080, Nvidia-319 driver.) Everything was running fine after the updates (including Nautilus, or "Files"), but when I opened Nautilus, at some point, the header bar was gone, and it got stuck in full-screen mode. The header is there for every other application, though. I can't resize Nautilus, I can't move it with the Alt+F7 hotkey. I can, however, make the sidebar disappear with F9 and make the program close with Alt+F4. I can also bring up the window menu with Alt+space, but the options to "resize" and "move" are greyed out, and the "Move Titlebar Onscreen" does nothing when clicked. Attempted solutions: I uninstalled, ran apt-get autoremove clean autoclean, and re-installed Nautilus, including any subsequent applications that were removed -- no fix. I installed and tried replacing the titlebar theme with Ambiance via Gnome Tweak Tool to at least restore the header/title bar -- no fix. I created a new user, logged into that, and opened Nautilus. It DID open up in the windowed mode with the header bar, but then, without my involvement, went to full-screen without the header bar. Same problem. Running "sudo nautilus" from the terminal does open it (full-screen, without header), but gives this error: (nautilus:7531): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to register client: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files Here's a screenshot of the complete Nautilus dialog box:

• Windows 2003 Server R2SP2 throws even ID 2269 after installing Excel WebPart in MOSS3

  We recently added an Excel workbook webpart (read only excel file - no editing) on our Sharepoint 2007 server. Once we did that, approximately 3-4 times an hour event ID 2269 is shown in the Application Log and a few minutes after that, an event id 1002 is displayed in the system long and the Sharepoint Offfce Servers Application pool shuts down. We've already check the "Bypass traverse checking and DCOM settings) per the MS KB and I have opened a ticket with MS Support. Problem is that MS Suppoert (sharepoint) thinks it is an IIS problem and the IIS people think it is a Sharepoint issue. Anyone else seen this problem? If we remove the Excel webpart, everything goes back to normal. The App Pools, SP and SP Central Admin sites are all using the same domain service account. Thanks in advance, Phil

• selective backup script in bash

  Hi, I've been using this simple command (that's all I can do :) to backup the whole tree from my user data in NAS server for a year. cp -r /STORAGE /BACKUP-STORAGE/YYYY-MM-DD Unfortunately, after a year of service. My user start filling the spaces with lot of photo and cliparts (jpg, gif, bmp) And that start to make my backup process get much slower. The space is also a big issue. Now I no longer have enough space for a week-long daily backup set. I think I want to change from backup everything to backup only non-image data. How can I exclude jpg, gif, and bmp from the backup ? It's quite easy with DOS XCOPY command, but I really have no idea how to do that in bash. Thanks
