• HTML5 video (mp4 and ogv) problems in Safari and Firefox - but Chrome is all good

  Hi folks, I have the following code: <video width="640" height="360" controls id="video-player" poster="/movies/poster.png"> <source src="/movies/640x360.m4v" type='video/mp4; codecs="avc1.42E01E, mp4a.40.2"'> <source src="/movies/640x360.ogv" type='video/ogg; codecs="theora, vorbis"'> </video> I'm using Rails (Mongrel in development and Mongrel+Apache in production). Chrome (Mac and Win) can play either file (tested by one then the other source tags) whether locally or from my production servers. Safari (Mac and Win) can play the mp4 file fine locally but not from production. Firefox 3.6 won't play the video in either OS. I just get a grey cross in the middle of the video player area. I've made sure that both Mongrel and Apache in each case have the right MIME types set. From Chrome's results I know there is nothing inherently wrong with my video files or the way the files are being asked for or delivered. Anyone got any clues? Or even a clue as to how to diagnose the problem? For Firefox I looked at https://developer.mozilla.org/En/Using_audio_and_video_in_Firefox where it refers to an 'error' event and an 'error' attribute. It seems the 'error' event is thrown pretty well straightaway and at that time there is no error attribute. Very helpful... :( Help enormously appreciated! Thanks in advance... Chris

  So, I have a form where I load divs as I go asking for various user input and displaying some offers. If I remove the validation methods (rules, messages, submitHandler), everything works fine. • Imagemagick PDF to JPG conversion failing

  I'm trying to convert the first page of a PDF to a JPG. I'm pretty sure I got this to work with certain PDFs, but is it really possible that certain PDFs are made incorrectly and cannot be converted? • IIS 7 can't connect to SQLServer 2008

  Sorry if this is the most seen question on the web, but this is my turn. I am trying to publish my asp.net mvc app on IIS 7 under MS Sql Server 2008. I am on a Windows Server 2008 virtual machine. I get the following classical error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) Under SQLServer, Allow remote connections is checked. My connection string is: Data Source=.\MSSQLSERVER;Initial Catalog=mydbname;User Id=sa;Password=mypassword I also tried with no username/password and "Integrated Security=true". There is only one instance of SQLServer installed. I tried to access my web page locally and remotely. There is no active firewall on the virtual machine. Thx for your help.

• Distinguishing between .NET exception types

  For the love of all things holy, how do you distinguish between different "exception flavors" within the predefined .NET exception classes? For example, a piece of code might throw an XmlException under the following conditions: The root element of the document is NULL Invalid chars are in the document The document is too long All of these are thrown as XmlException objects and all of the internal "tell me more about this exception" fields (such as Exception.HResult, Exception.Data, etc.) are usually empty or null. That leaves Exception.Message as the only thing that allows you to distinguish among these exception types, and you can't really depend on it because, you guessed it, the Exception.Message string is glocabilized, and can change when the culture changes. At least that's my read on the documentation. Exception.HResult and Exception.Data are widely ignored across the .NET libraries. They are the red-headed stepchildren of the world's .NET error-handling code. And even assuming they weren't, the HRESULT type is still the worst, downright nastiest error code in the history of error codes. Why we are still looking at HRESULTs in 2010 is beyond me. I mean if you're doing Interop or P/Invoke that's one thing but... HRESULTs have no place in System.Exception. HRESULTs are a wart on the proboscis of System.Exception. But seriously, it means I have to set up a lot of detailed specific error-handling code in order to figure out the same information that should have been passed as part of the exception data. Exceptions are useless if they force you to work like this. What am I doing wrong?

  Hi, I finally landed up in developing an iPhone app using Titanium Mobile. Now the problem I face is, Im able to run the app, and the app also sends the image to the server. But Im not able to see the file that got uploaded to the server.   Hi guys, Really stuck with this... basically my system has 4 tables; users, projects, user_projects and activities. The user table has a usertype field which defines whether or not they are admin or user (by an integer)... An admin can create a project, create an acitivity for the project and assign a user (limited access user) an activity. Therefore, this setup means that an admin is never directly associated with an activity (instead a project). When my head admin user deletes an admin, I need all projects and activities (for their projects) to be deleted also. My delete script for a user is simple so far and works, but I'm having trouble on how to gain the projectID in order to know which activities to remove (associated with the projects which are about to be deleted): $userid = $_GET['userid']; $query = "DELETE FROM users WHERE userid=".$userid; $result = mysql_query($sql, $connection) or die("Error: ".mysql_error()); $query = "DELETE FROM projects WHERE userid=".$userid; $result = mysql_query($sql, $connection) or die("Error: ".mysql_error()); $query = "DELETE FROM userprojects WHERE userid=".$userid; $result = mysql_query($sql, $connection) or die("Error: ".mysql_error()); $query = "DELETE FROM activities WHERE projectid=".$projectid; $result = mysql_query($sql, $connection) or die("Error: ".mysql_error()); Now the first three queries execute fine, obviously because the userid is being retrieved successfully.   I just installed Titanium SDK (1.5.1) and all the Android SDKs. Also, I already have iPhone SDK 4.2 installed. • MSWord automation:Get file contents after it was saved

  I have an application that uses MSWord automation to edit some documents, after they save and close word I need to grab the modified file and put it back on the repository, there is only one scenario where I can't get it to work and that is when the user makes changes to the file, selects to close word and selects yes to save the file there are 2 events that I'm using: DocumentBeforeSave Quit on the Quit event I'm trying to load the .docx file from disk but on this particular scenario I get an IOException because the file is still in use, somehow I need to wait until after the Quit event has been processed, which is when Word is actually closed and the file is no longer being used right now I have it working using this word.Visible = true; while (!wordDone) { //gets changed to true on the Quit event System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(100); } bool error = false; do { try { //need to load the contents of the modified file ls.Content = System.IO.File.ReadAllBytes(provider.GetFileName()); error = false; } catch (System.IO.IOException) { error = true; System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(200); } } while (error); while this works it is very ugly, I need a way to fire an event after the Quit event has been handled, or block the current thread while word is still running, or get an event after the document has been saved, the bottom line is I need a clean way to load the file after it has been saved and word is closed. DocumentAfterSave would be awesome, but doesn't seem to exist. I Also tried unhooking the Quit handler and calling word.Quit on the Quit handler, that made no difference

Doing functional testing of view model, I can mock service proxy to ensure methods are called on the proxy, but how can I ensure that callback method is called as well? With RhinoMocks I can test that events are handled and event raise events on the mocked object, but how can I test callbacks? • Prepared transactions with Postgres 8.4.3 on CentOS

  I have set 'max_prepared_transactions' to 20 in the local postgres.config and yet the transaction fails with the following error trace (but only on Linux). Since in Windows the same code works seamlessly I am wandering if this isn't an issue of permission. What would be the solution? I dont think raising the # of connections on the application server will fix this issue buecause if connections were running out then we'd see "Error on allocating connections"

  I'm developing a set of services using WCF. The application is doing dependency injection with Castle Windsor. I've added an IErrorHandler implementation that is added to services via an attribute. Everything is working thus far. The IErrorHandler object (of a class called FaultHandler is being applied properly and invoked. Now I'm adding logging. Castle Windsor is set up to inject the logger object (an instance of IOurLogger). This is working. But when I try to add it to FaultHandler my logger is null. The code for FaultHandler looks something like this: class FaultHandler : IErrorHandler { public IOurLogger logger { get; set; } public bool HandleError(Exception error) { logger.Write("Exception type {0}. Message: {1}", error.GetType(), error.Message); // Let WCF handle things its way. We only want to log. return false; } public void ProvideFault(Exception error, MessageVersion version, Message fault) { } } This throws it's own exception, since logger is null when HandleError() is called. The logger is being successfully injected into the service itself and is usable there, but for some reason I can't use it in FaultHandler.   When invoking a query on the data service I get this error message inside the XML feed: <m:error> <m:code></m:code> <m:message xml:lang="nl-NL">Internal Server Error. The type 'MyType' is not a complex type or an entity type.</m:message> </m:error> When I use the example described here in the article "How to: Create a Data Service Using the Reflection Provider (WCF Data Services)" http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd728281(v=VS.100).aspx it works as expected. I have created the service in a .NET 4.0 web project. My data context class returns a query object that is derived from the LINQExtender (http://linqextender.codeplex.com/). When I execute the query object in a unit test, it works as expected. My entity type is defined as: [DataServiceKey("Id")] public class Accommodation { [UniqueIdentifier] [OriginalFieldName("EntityId")] public string Id { get; set; } [OriginalFieldName("AccoName")] public string Name { get; set; } } (the UniqueIdentifier and OriginalFieldName attributes are used by LINQExtender) Does anybody know if this is a bug in WCF data services or am I doing something wrong?

  I'm trying to get a bitmap/snapshot of a Wowza video stream playing on my client, like so: var bitmapData:BitmapData = new BitmapData(view.videoPlayerComponent.width, view.videoPlayerComponent.height); bitmapData.draw(view.videoPlayerComponent); When I do this, I get this error message: SecurityError: Error #2123: Security sandbox violation: BitmapData.draw: http://localhost:51150/Resources/WRemoteWebCam.swf cannot access rtmp://localhost/videochat/smithkl42._default/. No policy files granted access. I presume the error comes from not being able to locate the appropriate crossdomain.xml file. I'm not quite sure where it's looking for it, and a wireshark sniff was inconclusive, so I've tried placing one in each of the following places: http://localhost/crossdomain.xml http://localhost:1935/crossdomain.xml http://localhost:51150/crossdomain.xml I can retrieve the file successfully from each of those three locations. (I'm pretty sure that the last one wouldn't have any effect, since it's just the location of the web site which hosts the page that hosts the .swf file, but on the off chance...) These are the contents of the file that it's grabbing in each instance: <cross-domain-policy> <allow-access-from domain="*" to-ports="*" /> </cross-domain-policy> And it's still throwing that same error message.   I am having some strange problems loading content from another XHTML page via jQuery. When the second page I try to load from is served as XHTML I get the below error. I don't know if it helps but both documents validate when I get the error. Uncaught Error: NO_MODIFICATION_ALLOWED_ERR: DOM Exception 7 Currently the header on the second page I load from is: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <meta name="language" content="en" /> <title>some title</title> <!-- CSS & Javascript included here --> </head> The content type is set as: application/xhtml+xml;charset=iso-8859-1 Interestingly, when I remove all the XHTML stuff from the header and stop setting the content type the error does not occur and everything works great. The load process currently looks like the below. It works fine when everything is plain HTML. $('#overpage').find(".wrap").load(this.getTrigger().attr("href")+" #op").show(); I'm curious why the process only does not work when the second page I load from is XHTML.
