• Keyboard hook return different symbols from card reader depends whther my app in focus or not

  I code WinForm application where one of the input is magnetic stripe card reader (CR). I am using code George Mamaladze's article Processing Global Mouse and Keyboard Hooks in C# on codeproject.com to listen keyboard (USB card reader acts same way as keyboard) and I have weird situation. One card reader CR1 (Unitech MS240-2UG) produces keystroke which I intercept on KeyPress event analyze that I intercept certain patter like %ABCD-6EFJHI? and trigger some logic. Analysis required because user can type something else into application or in another application meanwhile my app is open When I use another card reader CR2 (IdTech IDBM-334133) keystroke intercepted by hook started from number 5 instead of % (It is actually same key on keyboard). Since it is starting sentinel it is very important for me to have ability recognize input from card reader. Moreover if my app running in background and I have focus on Notepad when I swipe card string %ABCD-6EFJHI? appears in Notepad and same way, with proper starting character) intercepted by keyboard hook. If swiped when focus on Form it is 5ABCD-6EFJHI? User who tried app with another card reader has same result as me with CR2. Only CR1 works for me as expected I was looking into Device manager of Windows and both devices use same HID driver supplied by MS. I checked devices though respective software from CR makers and starting and ending sentinels set to % and ? respective on both. I would appreciate and ideas and thoughts as I hit the wall myself Thank you

• DataGridView not showing Columns and Rows during runtime.

  I have created a windows form with two groupbox (GB1 and GB2). GB2 is set to BringToFront and Hide. GB2 have Datagridview dgv docked in panel. GB1 has a button which invoke GB2 groupbox and fill 5 datagridview rows to perform 5 operations. But is not visible during runtime. It display all columns and rows after all 5 operations were done. I want to show the user each row. I have tried below code but it did not work. • django shopping cart as a beginner

  Hi, i'm quite new to django and trying to add a shopping cart to a simple webshop. What I need is a simple cart that can be filled and presents its content, which is then sent to the vendor via email. So Satchmo might be too big for this task. Therefore i chose django-cart (http://code.google.com/p/django-cart/) which causes some problems now. 1. Is django-cart the right thing? Or are there any better approaches to this task? 2. As I am a beginner even django-cart makes me struggle. I used the view and the template of the django-cart-website, but writing a form that can be used to add products to the cart took me hours. I probably need help in understanding the general layout of a shopping cart and its integration into a website. 3. Two more specific questions: Is it possible to dynamically populate a formfield in a template (e.g. with {{ object.id }})? Is django-cart able to change (update) the contents of a cart? • Resize a UITableView to accomodate a translucent header before it becomes visible

  I have a UITableView inside a UINavigationController. The navigation controller uses a translucent navigation bar--as a result, my table view is displayed behind the navigation bar and it's height includes the height of the navigation bar. However, I want the table view to appear below the navigation bar (as it would if it were not translucent). I'm working in MonoTouch, but I think the principles are language independent. Here's the code I'm using to resize the UITableView frame: RectangleF rect = tableView.Frame; tableView.Frame = new RectangleF (rect.Left, rect.Top + 44, rect.Width, rect.Height - 44); tableView.ContentInset = new UIEdgeInsets (0, 0, 0, 0); This works fine if I place it in the viewDidAppear method, but will not work in the viewWillAppear method. In the viewDidAppear method, however I can see the resize occurring briefly in the form of a flicker. I want to do the resize before the frame appears. But if I put this code in viewWillAppear or viewDidLoad, it has no effect. Thanks in advance for any help!

What about the trade-offs between pythonicity and other aspects (like speed in this case) of programming? p.s. I kinda have an OCD for elegant code. • jQuery UI Question. How to pass parameters to a function.

  I am pretty new to jQuery. How do I pass parameters to a function? I found some jQueryUI demos and I got it working except "view" link. I have a problem with passing parameters to and show them in modal popup windows. I have "Create New User" button and "View" link on the page. Clicking "Create New User" does pass the parameters and show them on modal popup window. • WCF Certificates without Certificate Store

  My team is developing a number of WPF plug-ins for a 3rd party thick client application. The WPF plug-ins use WCF to consume web services published by a number of TIBCO services. The thick client application maintains a separate central data store and uses a proprietary API to access the data store. The thick client and WPF plug-ins are due to be deployed onto 10,000 workstations. Our customer wants to keep the certificate used by the thick client in the central data store so that they don't need to worry about re-issuing the certificate (current re-issue cycle takes about 3 months) and also have the opportunity to authorise the use of the certificate. The proposed architecture offers a form of shared secret / authentication between the central data store and the TIBCO services. Whilst I don’t necessarily agree with the proposed architecture our team is not able to change it and must work with what’s been provided. Basically our client wants us to build into our WPF plug-ins a mechanism which retrieves the certificate from the central data store (which will be allowed or denied based on roles in that data store) into memory then use the certificate for creating the SSL connection to the TIBCO services. No use of the local machine's certificate store is allowed and the in memory version is to be discarded at the end of each session. So the question is does anyone know if it is possible to pass an in-memory certificate to a WCF (.NET 3.5) service for SSL transport level encryption? Note: I had asked a similar question (here) but have since deleted it and re-asked it with more information.

• SmtpClient.SendAsync - How to ensure my application doesn't finish before callback?

  Hi, I need to send emails asychronously through a console application. I need to do some DB updates on the callback but my application is exiting before the callback code gets run! How can I stop this from happening in a nice manner rather than simply guessing how long to wait before exiting. I would imagine the Async calls get placed in some form of thread? Is it possible to check if any are waiting to be called? • Problem with authentication from different domains using Django sessions.

  Hi all, I am developing a bookmarklet which essentially adds a toolbar to a web page user is currently looking at. To use it, user needs to be logged in. To login user clicks on 'Singin' which displays a standard form containing Username, Password etc fields. When user successfully logs in they may chose to navigate to a different web-site. When on another page, they (a) re-load the bookmarklet (b) their session is retrieved from the server (c) user doesn't need to login again. Pretty standard I've would have thought. Using Django sessions and JQuery. I'm having troubles implementing the above usecase. Here are some problems I've encountered: Cross domain POST AJAX requests are disallowed. That was solved with JSONp. I doubt it is a very secure approach but for now it works. My server returns the session id in a cookie, however when the user navigates to a different page I don't really know how to retrieve that session id to send back to my server. Can I even read third party cookies from my JavaScript? I'm looking for some guidelines on implementing the above usecase. Ideally I don't want to redirect user to another page for them to sign in. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  I'm trying to implement a Single Sign On (SSO) for a web application. Maybe you can help me find a proper solution, give me a direction or tell me, that solutions already exist. The scenario: A GeoExt (ExtJS for geodata/map based apps) webapp (JavaScript only) has a login form to let the user authenticate himself. The authentication is not implemented yet, so i'm flexible with respect to that. After authenticating to the main webapp the user indirectly accesses multiple 3rd-party services like WebServices, GeoServer WFS, Google Maps, etc. These services might require additional authentication like credentials or keys. We are (so far) not talking about additional login screens, just some kind of "machine to machine"-authentication. The main problem: I'm unable to modify the 3rd party services (e.g. Google) to add a SSO mechanism. I'd like to have a solution that allows the user to log in once to have access to all the services required. My first idea was a repository that stores all the required credentials or keys. The user logs in and can retrieve all required information to acces sthe other services. Does anybody know of existing implementations, papers, maybe implementations of such services? Other requirements: The communication between the JS application and the repository must be secure. The credentials must be stored in a secure manner. But the JS app must be able to use them to access the services (no chance to store a decryption key in a JS-app securely, eh? *g).

• Losing 'post' requests sent to Pylons paster server

  I'm sending post requests to a Pylons server (served by paster serve), and if I send them with any frequency many don't arrive at the server. One at a time is ok, but if I fire off a few (or more) within seconds, only a small number get dealt with. If I send with no post data, or with get, it works fine, but putting just one character of data in the post fields causes massive losses. For example, sending 200, 2 will come back. Sending 100 more slowly, 10 will come back. I'm making the requests form inside a Qt application. Tis will work ok (no data): QString postFields = "" QNetworkRequest request(QUrl("http://server.com/endpoint")); QNetworkReply *reply = networkAccessManager-post(request, postFields.toAscii()); And this will result in only a fraction of the requests being dealt with: QString postFields = "" QNetworkRequest request(QUrl("http://server.com/endpoint")); QNetworkReply *reply = networkAccessManager-post(request, postFields.toAscii()); I've played around with turning on use_threadpool, and other options (threadpool_workers, threadpool_max_requests = 300), of which some combinations can alter the results slightly (best case 10 responses in 200). If I send similar requests to other (non paster) servers, the replies come back ok, so I'm almost certain its'a paster serve config issue. Any help or advice greatly appreciated. Thanks Philip

I tried both but nothing worked. What am i missing?

  I have an open source Java database migration tool (http://www.liquibase.org) which I am considering porting to .Net. The majority of the tool (at least from a complexity side) is around logic like "if you are adding a primary key and the database is Oracle use this SQL. If database is MySQL use this SQL. If the primary key is named and the database is Postgres use this SQL". I could fork the Java codebase and covert it (manually and/or automatically), but as updates and bug fixes to the above logic come in I do not want to have to apply it to both versions. What I would like to do is move all that logic into a form that can be compiled and used by both Java and .Net versions naively. The code I am looking to convert does not contain any advanced library usage (JDBC, System.out, etc) that would vary significantly from Java to .Net, so I don't think that will be an issue (at worst it can be designed around). So what I am looking for is: A language in which I can code common parts of my app in and compile it into classes usable by the "standard" languages on the target platform Does not add any runtime requirements to the system Nothing so strange that it scares away potential contributors I know Python and Ruby both have implementations on for the JVM and CLR. How well do they fit my requirements? Has anyone been successful (or unsuccesful) using this technique for cross-platform applications? Are there any gotcha's I need to worry about?

• CodeIgniter's Scaffolding and Helper Functions Not Working

  Hi, I'm following CodeIgniter's tutorial "Create a blog in 20 minutes" and I am having trouble getting the helper, anchor and Scaffolding functions to work. I can't seem to create links on my HTML page using the helper and anchor functions. I put $this->load->helper('url'); $this->load->helper('form'); in the constructor under parent::Controller(); and <p>&lt;?php anchor('blog/comments','Comments'); ?&gt;</p> within the foreach loop as specified in the tutorial. But Im not getting the links to appear. Secondly, I keep getting a 404 Page Not Found error whenever I try to access CodeIgniter's Scaffolding page in my browser, like so: localhost/codeignitor/index.php/blog/scaffolding/mysecretword I can access localhost/codeignitor/index.php/blog just fine. I followed CodeIgnitor's instructions in their "Create a blog in 20 minutes" by storing my database settings in the database.php file; and automatically connecting to the database by inserting "database" in the core array of the autoload.php; and I've added both parent::Controller(); and $this->load->scaffolding('myTableName') to blog's constructor. It still gives me this 404. Any assistance will be appreciated. Thanks in advance?

• Django Forms - change the render multiple select widget

  Hi, In my model I have a manytomany field mentors = models.ManyToManyField(MentorArea, verbose_name='Areas', blank=True) In my form I want to render this as: drop down box with list of all MentorArea objects which has not been associated with the object. Next to that an add button which will call a javascript function which will add it to the object. Then under that a ul list which has each selected MentorArea object with a x next to it which again calls a javascript function which will remove the MentorArea from the object. I know that to change how an field element is rendered you create a custom widget and override the render function and I have done that to create the add button. class AreaWidget(widgets.Select): def render(self, name, value, attrs=None, choices=()): jquery = u''' <input class="button def" type="button" value="Add" id="Add Area" />''' output = super(AreaWidget, self).render(name, value, attrs, choices) return output + mark_safe(jquery) However I don't know how to list the currently selected ones underneath as a list. Can anyone help me? Also what is the best way to filter down the list so that it only shows MentorArea objects which have not been added? I currently have the field as mentors = forms.ModelMultipleChoiceField(queryset=MentorArea.objects.all(), widget = AreaWidget, required=False) but this shows all mentors no matter if they have been added or not. • jquery: prepopulating autocomplete fields

  I'm using the tokenizing autocomplete plugin for jquery ( http://loopj.com/2009/04/25/jquery-plugin-tokenizing-autocomplete-text-entry ). I mostly use Ruby, and I'm really unfamiliar with javascript, though. My basic setup looks like this, and works fine for a new, blank form: $(document).ready(function () { $("#tag_ids_field").tokenInput("/tags", { queryParam: "search" }); }); The problem comes when I try to prepopulate it, like for an edit page. I'm trying to do something like this (where the "#tag_ids_field" text box contains the JSON when the page is loaded - that way is just cleaner on the application side of things). $(document).ready(function () { var tags = $("#tag_ids_field").html(); $("#tag_ids_field").tokenInput("/tags", { queryParam: "search", prePopulate: tags }); }); However, when the page loads I see that it's just filled with hundreds of entries that read 'undefined'. I get this even if I take the JSON output that Rails provides and try sticking it right in the .js file: $(document).ready(function () { $("#tag_ids_field").tokenInput("/tags", { queryParam: "search", prePopulate: "[{\"id\":\"44\",\"name\":\"omnis sit impedit et numquam voluptas enim\"},{\"id\":\"515\",\"name\":\"deserunt odit id doloremque reiciendis aliquid qui vel\"},{\"id\":\"943\",\"name\":\"exercitationem numquam possimus quasi iste nisi illum\"}]" }); }); That's obviously not a solution, I just tried it out of frustration and I get the same behavior. My two questions: One, why are my text boxes being filled with "undefined" tags when I try to prepopulate, and how can I get them to prepopulate successfully? Two, I'm planning on having many autocomplete fields like this on the same page (for when several records are edited at once - they all query the same place). How can I make each autocomplete field take it's prepopulated values from it's own textbox? • SQL deadlock on delete then bulk insert

  I have an issue with a deadlock in SQL Server that I haven't been able to resolve. Basically I have a large number of concurrent connections (from many machines) that are executing transactions where they first delete a range of entries and then re-insert entries within the same range with a bulk insert. Essentially, the transaction looks like this BEGIN TRANSACTION T1 DELETE FROM [TableName] WITH( XLOCK HOLDLOCK ) WHERE [Id]=@Id AND [SubId]=@SubId INSERT BULK [TableName] ( [Id] Int , [SubId] Int , [Text] VarChar(max) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS ) WITH(CHECK_CONSTRAINTS, FIRE_TRIGGERS) COMMIT TRANSACTION T1 The bulk insert only inserts items matching the Id and SubId of the deletion in the same transaction. Furthermore, these Id and SubId entries should never overlap. When I have enough concurrent transaction of this form, I start to see a significant number of deadlocks between these statements. I added the locking hints XLOCK HOLDLOCK to attempt to deal with the issue, but they don't seem to be helpling. The canonical deadlock graph for this error shows: Connection 1: Holds RangeX-X on PK_TableName Holds IX Page lock on the table Requesting X Page lock on the table Connection 2: Holds IX Page lock on the table Requests RangeX-X lock on the table What do I need to do in order to ensure that these deadlocks don't occur. I have been doing some reading on the RangeX-X locks and I'm not sure I fully understand what is going on with these. Do I have any options short of locking the entire table here?

• Vanilla WPF application hangs on one customer's machine

  At a customer, one of our WPF applications started to hang. When trying to reproduce the problem with a minimal working example, I discovered that even the most basic (non-trivial) WPF application will hang on that machine. Example A: Create a new C# WPF project in Visual Studio 2008. Change nothing, compile it and run it on the customer's machine. It will run. Example B: Take Example A, and add a TextBlock to the main form Window1: <Window ...> <Grid> <TextBlock>Test</TextBlock> </Grid> </Window> Compile the application and run it on the customer's machine. It will hang: The title bar and the window border is visible, the inside is transparent and the window does not react to anything (cannot be moved or closed). The application must be shut down using the task manager. Obviously, this customer's WPF is broken. Is this a known issue, i.e., has anyone encountered it before and already knows how to solve it (e.g. reinstall .net 3.5 SP1, etc.)? The development machine is W7SP1, the customer's machine is XP (probably SP3, didn't check).
