• How to get cheap version control?

  Hello, I'm a programmer, contractor, self experimenter and so on. I'd need to have cheap version control. I've been working with Subversion and recently with Mercurial. I've seen around many cheap hosting but, even if they are great (like BitBucket), many of them don't allow many private projects (1 or 2). Much of the code I need to keep on VC is not open, maybe because it is stuff I'm working on for clients, or maybe because it's code I usually need for my development, but it is not intended and usable as a open source project. Now, I've a cheap web hosting, with unlimited space and free mysql. I CAN'T install Mercurial or SVN on those machinese, but I was asking myself if is it there a way to use a common CVS with it, with "common" I mean something that has its good IDE plugins (Eclipse or Netbeans) that may avoid me to write commands by hand. • Hibernate criteria with projection not performing query for @OneToMany mapping

  I have a domain object, Expense, that has a field called initialFields. It's annotated as so: @OneToMany(fetch = FetchType.EAGER, cascade = { CascadeType.ALL }, orphanRemoval = true) @JoinTable(blah blah) private final List<Field> initialFields; Now I'm trying to use Projections in order to only pull certain fields for performance reasons, but when doing so the initialFields field is always null. It's the only OneToMany field and the only field I am trying to retrieve with the projection that is behaving this way. If I use a regular HQL query initialFields is populated appropriately, but of course I can't limit the fields. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

• C# Using singleton instead of a global static instance

  I ran into a problem today and a friend recommended I use a global static instance or more elegantly a singleton pattern. I spent a few hours reading about singletons but a few things still escape me. Background: What Im trying to accomplish is creating an instance of an API and use this one instance in all my classes (as opposed to making a new connection, etc). There seems to be about 100 ways of creating a singleton but with some help from yoda I found some thread safe examples. ..so given the following code: public sealed class Singleton { public static Singleton Instance { get; private set; } static Singleton() { Instance = new Singleton(); } } How/Where would you instantiate the this new class and how should it be called from a separate class? • Restart nginx without sudo?

  So I want to be able to cap:deploy without having to type any passwords. I have setup all private keys so I can get to the remote servers fine, and am now using svn over ssh, so no passwords there. I have one last problem, I need to be able to restart nginx. Right now I have sudo /etc/init.d/nginx reload. That is a problem b/c it uses the capistrano password, the one I just removed b/c I am using keys. Any ideas on how to restart nginx w\out a password?

I can create a HTTP request using a java.net.URL instance, but I don't seem to be able to associate my certificate with that instance (and I'm not sure whether using java.net.URL is even appropriate).

• Threading multiple WebBrowser in VB .net

  I'm building a multiple webbrowser inside tabs( 1 predefine webbrowser control per tab) and I want them all to load at the same time or other words must run in thread. Unfortunately I feel a valid fact came from the error message that this is something not possible. Pls help me to check my simple program code below and its error in case i tried releasing 2 webbrowser controls but when I leave it to single web browser control it works fine. Any workaround? • How to refresh an activity?

  Hi Guys, after implementing some Android Apps, including several Map activities, I try to refresh the activity when the GPS listener's onLocationChanged() mehtod is called. I have no Idea how to tell the map activity to refresh on its own and display the new coords... the coords to store will have to be in global values, so that the location listener will have access to it.   I am looking for the equivalent of running "File - Save All" before certain Rake macros. If I make a copy of a file in the solution explorer, that file is not included in the project file (.CSPROJ) after Pre_Rake() runs. I would still have to press CTRL-SHIFT-S or File - Save All. So, how to Save All with a Visual Studio Macro?

• Capture KeyUp event on form when child control has focus

  I need to capture the KeyUp event in my form (to toggle a "full screen mode"). Here's what I'm doing: protected override void OnKeyUp(KeyEventArgs e) { base.OnKeyUp(e); if (e.KeyCode == Keys.F12) this.ToggleFullScreen(); } private void ToggleFullScreen() { // Snazzy code goes here } This works fine, unless a control on the form has focus. In that case, I don't get the event at all (also tried OnKeyDown - no luck there either). I could handle the KeyUp event from the child control, but the controls on the form are generated dynamically, and there may be many of them - each having many children of their own. Is there any way to do this without generating event handlers for every control on the screen (which I certainly could do with a recursive function)?

• Backing up locally modified and new source files

  I'm wondering how other programmers are backing up changes that are not under source control yet, be it new files or modified ones. I'm mostly referring to medium size jobs - hardly worth the effort of making a private branch, but taking more than a day to complete. This is not a vendor-specific question - I'd like to see if various products have different solutions to the problem. I'd appreciate answers referring to SVN and distributed SCCs, though. I'm mostly wondering about that latters (Mercurial, GIT etc.) - it's great that you have your own local repo, but do you back it up on a regular basis along with your source files? Note - I'm not asking about a general backup strategy. For that, we have IT. I'm seeking the best way to keep locally modified stuff backed-up before they are checked back into the main repo.

  I am trying to draw a cupola circles at random positions in an Android application. I draw them on a bitmap and then draw that bitmap on the canvas. And after calling this function I just draw the bitmap in the onDraw method. Now the problem is that I only get one circle drawn on the screen, no matter the size of numOfCircles. Any clue what is happening here?

• Entity Framework 4: C# !(ReferenceEquals()) vs !=

  Unless a class specifically overrides the behavior defined for Object, ReferenceEquals and == do the same thing... compare references. In property setters, I have commonly used the pattern private MyType myProperty; public MyType MyProperty { set { if (myProperty != value) { myProperty = value; // Do stuff like NotifyPropertyChanged } } } However, in code generated by Entity Framework, the if statement is replaced by if (!ReferenceEquals(myProperty, value)) Using ReferenceEquals is more explicit (as I guess not all C# programmers know that == does the same thing if not overridden). Is there any difference that's escaping me between the two if-variants? Are they perhaps accounting for the possibility that POCO designers may have overridden ==? In short, if I have not overridden ==, am I save using != instead of ReferencEquals()?

  I have a struts2 action with an @Secured({"ROLE_ADMIN"}) to secure the execute method. In the execute method i assign a message to a member variable of the action, then return SUCCESS and end up on the jsp page. On the page I retrieve the actions member variable with <sroperty. private String greeting; public String execute() throws Exception { this.greeting="Hello"; return SUCCESS; } // getters and setters for greeting ... <s:property value="greeting" /> The problem is when the secured annotation is present the jsp shows nothing for the member variable but when @Secured is removed the whole thing behaves properly and shows the message that was set into the member variable. It appears that the actual security is working ok but when enabled via the annotation the member variable (or maybe the instance of the action) is not making its way onto the value stack. I cant see any error messages.

• RSA implementations for Java, alternative to BC

  The RSA implementation that ships with Bouncy Castle only allows the encrypting of a single block of data. The RSA algorithm is not suited to streaming data and should not be used that way. In a situation like this you should encrypt the data using a randomly generated key and a symmetric cipher, after that you should encrypt the randomly generated key using RSA, and then send the encrypted data and the encrypted random key to the other end where they can reverse the process (ie. decrypt the random key using their RSA private key and then decrypt the data). I can't use the workarond of using symmetric key. So, are there other implementations of RSA than Bouncy Castle?

  How do I test a class that utilizes proxy clients generated by a Web Service Reference? I would like to mock the client, but the generated client interface doesn't contain the close method, which is required to properly terminate the proxy. If I don't use the interface, but instead a concrete reference, I get access to the close method but loose the ability to mock the proxy.
